Facebook music service should get 'unified' songs, scrobbles
The upcoming Facebook music service many expect at the f8 conference on September 22 could have a unique integration between rival providers. A leak Saturday indicated it would have "content resolution" that would guarantee access to songs as long as someone had least one of the partner services. An Rdio user sharing a song would automatically make a link to MOG or Spotify, TechCrunch gave as one example.

Carnegie Mellon robot jumps up, jumps up and glides down (video)
We can handle the imaginary terror of UFOs and nightmarish, flying mammals. But, robots that can jump like a human and then glide like a colugo? Spotify to lay down beats for Ford
It's only been two months since Spotify made its stateside debut, and it's already getting in bed with an American staple. No, it hasn't struck a deal with Beyonce or Britney, but the fine folks at Autoblog are reporting that the streaming music service will make its way into vehicles sporting the Ford SYNC AppLink system "in the near future." Details are otherwise vague, but we'd be interested to hear how the outfit's "exclusive automotive advertising partner" feels about the deal.

Study: mobile patent lawsuits up 25% a year since 2006
Patent lawsuit analyst group Lex Machina has published a study showing a huge spike in patent lawsuits, especially in mobile, in the past few years. Since 2006, the number of mobile-focused patent lawsuits filed has gone up 25 percent every year. As of August this year, eight percent, or 24, of the 294 patent lawsuits filed in the month related to smartphones or similar technology.

Corsair adds sped-up USB 3.0 Flash Voyager, Survivor drives
Corsair finished the week with USB 3.0 versions of its three core USB thumb drives. The regular Flash Voyager, boosted Flash Voyager GT, and ruggedized Flash Survivor all have both more theoretical and real speed gains. Auch wenn der Release des iPad 3 noch in ferner Zukunft liegt, gibt es bezüglich der Komponenten interessante Gerüchte. Das betrifft vor allem die Akkus, die dünner, leichter und leistungsfähiger sein sollen. Preissenkend wird sich das aber leider nicht auswirken.
Das iPad 2 ist kaum sechs Monate alt, da richten sich die Augen schon auf das Nachfolgemodell des beliebten Tablet-PCs. Um sich der harten „Samsung-und-Co.-Konkurrenz“ zu erwehren, wäre eine Gewichtsreduzierung eine gute Möglichkeit, obwohl das aktuelle iPad mit 600 Gramm alles andere als ein Schwergesicht ist. Googles ‘Music beta’ passt sich iPhone und iPad an
Eine 'Music beta'-Bibliothek mit 20.000 Songs - unter der soeben live geschalteten iOS-Optimierung im Web - ist nicht zu verwenden. Mit 8.000 Songs wird's besser. Schlussendlich habe ich meinen Musikbestand auf 2.000 Songs minimiert. Dann macht's Spaß.

Gut, das BlackBerry-Design ist bewährt, kommuniziert und lange erprobt. Das gefällt einigen Fanboys nicht. Also baut man sich ein neues Case. Wie das hier. Sensationell. Für den Geschäftsmann unter den Robocops. Und mit so viel Liebe zum Detail und natürlich nur Originalkomponenten, wenn uns unsere Augen nicht täuschen. Die Bilder zeigen weder, ob das Display ein Touchscreen ist, oder ob das Fadenkreuz in der Mitte das Trackpad ersetzt wir sind dennoch Fans.

UK book seller Waterstone's to enter the e-reader race
Waterstone's isn't exactly the biggest name in book sales (at least not stateside), but it knows that to survive in this market it's gonna have to get on the e-book train. The British company's managing director, James Daunt, told Radio 4 that it planned to enter the market with both an electronic book store and an actual reader by spring of 2012. Erster Crysis-Teil erscheint für Xbox 360 und PS3

USB-3.0-Hub-Controller mit Turbo-Ladefunktion
Die Zahl der USB-3.0-Ports auf aktuellen Mainboards ist noch recht überschaubar. Wie bereits bei den vorherigen USB-Generationen, kann man auch bei USB 3.0 mittels eines Hubs die Zahl der Ports erhöhen. Google and Oracle CEOs ordered to sit in settlement talks
Google chief Larry Page and his Oracle counterpart Larry Ellison were ordered on Friday to attend a special settlement meeting previously called for in Oracle's lawsuit over Java use in Android. The September 19 gathering, ordered by Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal, will include other executives but will require the two CEOs at a minimum. It followed after private mediation hit an impasse and the judge in the main case, William Alsup, called for court oversight to help force a resolution.

Stearne Agee: iPhone 4 still hot despite upcoming refresh
Analyst Shaw Wu of Sterne Agee has raised his estimates of iPhone 4 and iPad sales in the quarter ending in September based on checks with parts of Apple's global supply chain, and has reiterated his "Buy" rating, indicating that he expects Apple to continue outperforming the market with September results and over the next 12 months. With the next iPhone predicted for an October launch, Wu believes both iOS products will continue a strong run through the rest of the year.

Cave Story+ out for the Mac App Store with new content
Cave Story is a freeware PC game that came out back in 2004, a 2D action platformer created by a one-man team named Pixel. Since then, it's come out on quite a few consoles (I've got it on my DSi, though it's on the Wii as well), and now it's available as Cave Story+ on the Mac App Store. The app is US$9.99 and available for download right now.
Wait a minute, you might be asking: Why do we have to pay $10 for a game you just called freeware? Good question. The original PC title is still downloadable for free, but the Mac App Version

On-demand music service MOG releases Mac client
Popular streaming music site MOG has released a beta client for Mac OS X that replicates and extends the current browser-based experience with all the features and design of the HTML5-based web player. The desktop version adds a completely new audio engine, support for Apple's remote controls and standard media-key support as found on Apple's current keyboards and even native Airplay support for Airport Express, AppleTV and other Airplay devices.

Snow Leopard and Lion neck and neck on Thunderbolt file transfers
Macworld has been doing some more testing in Thunderbolt performance, this time between the Snow Leopard and Lion operating systems. The results say that if you spent that $30 on Lion just so your Thunderbolt connection would go faster, you probably wasted your money. Results weren't that different, coming in only a few megabytes a second apart but still well within the optimum speed for the various transfer services. In general, Thunderbolt's going to be fast no matter what operating system you're using it on.

Epson to offer new 2D and 3D 1080p home theater projectors
Epson will be bringing a new line of 2D/3D "Full HD" home theater projectors and one new model of pro cinema projector to dealers and outlets in October and November. The units feature extremely high refresh rates and 2,400 lumen brightness to help combat the main complaint with 3D television: lowered brightness and picture quality. The units can also "split the screen" allowing for two inputs (such as TV and internet) to be used at the same time.

Extensis has provided a solution to the a long-standing issue with web designers and the way fonts are licensed with its new plug-in for Photoshop, the Web Font Plug-in. It provides designers with free access to web fonts from many foundries for designing web sites in Photoshop. Because many fonts are licensed for where they will be used, designers may need two separate licenses for the same font for web and desktop use, or have to devise workarounds in the early stages of production.

Android 5 may be Jelly Bean, Ice Cream sandwich lower key
A historically strong source claimed Friday night that the version of Android after Ice Cream Sandwich not only has an early name but might be the actual significant update.
