Aperture 3.0.1 erschienen
Zwei Wochen nach der Veröffentlichung von Aperture 3 hat Apple jetzt das erste Update veröffentlicht. djay 3.1 improves detection, cue points
algoriddim has released an update of djay, its DJ performance software. Version 3.1 makes several important upgrades, such as better beat and tempo detection able to more accurately identify music from genres like funk, hip-hop and jazz. FCC's Genachowski previews broadband plan, demands half gigahertz of spectrum for the task
Time's running out for the FCC to present its National Broadband Plan to Congress next month, a set of sweeping regulatory changes geared at making broadband widely and readily available to every nook and cranny of the country -- and as the day of reckoning draws near, chairman Julius Genachowski is starting to talk specifics about how the Plan's going to look. Nintendo DSi LL due for US in March, gets e-books
Nintendo today at its self-run Summit provided US launch details for the DSi LL. The handheld will reach stores on March 28th and will undercut the Japanese version with a $190 price. It will have the same dual 4.2-inch screens and larger stylus and should initially come in burgundy red and bronze colors.

Adobe outs Flash 10.1 Beta with Intel GMA 500 support
Adobe has released a Beta 3 version of Flash Player 10.1 for Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms. Meant for developers to test new hardware, the build reportedly has support for Intel's GMA 500 integrated graphics processors. The update will allow for Flash-based HD video playback on many previously incapable netbooks, including very small models like the Sony VAIO P.

It looks like we are getting pretty close to 10 billion songs downloaded from the iTunes Music Store. The winner will probably buy his/her song tonight.
We don't have to remind you that each and every person on earth could have downloaded a song and Apple would still have 3 billion songs left over. 10 billion is a lot of music.

Samsung hat erkannt, dass man nie genug RAM haben kann und mal eben eine neue Technologie entwickelt, die auf einem 40 Nanometer - Prozess basiert und bereits in der Serienproduktion ist. Das 4 GB DDR 3 Modul kann auf bereits bestehende Sticks montiert werden und soll 16 GB / 32 GB DIMMs für Desktops und 8 GB DIMMs für Laptops ermöglichen. Survey finds initial iPad demand to be greater than initial iPhone demand
So there's no question that the iPad has generated plenty of interest and debate, but the big question remaining is how that will translate into actual sales. According to a new RBC / ChangeWave survey, however, it seems that the iPad is at least on track to do slightly better than the iPhone did, at least initially maybe. To be a bit more specific, the survey found that of the 3,200 respondents, 13% were either somewhat likely or very likely to buy an iPad, compared to 9% who said the same thing about the iPhone way back in April, 2007. Samsung's 4Gb DDR3 RAM modules could put 8GB in your next netbook
Rhett and Link (and one Bill Gates, too) may assume that 64KB of memory is "plenty," but let's be realistic here -- it's not. Samsung's fully in agreement, and it's looking to make your next DIMM or SODIMM a lot more capacious with a new 40nm-class process technology. As the story goes, volume production has begun on a new 4Gb DDR3 module, which could be squeezed onto existing sticks in order to produce 16GB / 32GB DIMMs (for desktops) and 8GB SODIMMs (for laptops). There's no clear indication of when this whole "mass production" thing will lead to "on sale right now," but we're guessing it'll make the transition between "now" and "really soon." Bonus vid

'Explicit' category coming to App Store?
Apple is about to add an "Explicit" category of software to the App Store, says one developer. The option is said to have recently appeared in iTunes Connect, the system developers use to track and submit iPhone and iPod apps. Umfrage: Über 25 Prozent neuer Fernseher werden mit dem Internet verbunden
Laut einer von iSuppli durchgeführten Umfrage verbinden immer mehr Käufer neuer Fernsehgeräte diese mit dem Internet. Von 800 US-Bürgern, die im Januar einen neuen Fernseher gekauft haben, sagen 27,5 Prozent, sie hätten ihr Gerät mit dem Web verbunden - entweder über eine integrierte Funktion oder indirekt per Spielkonsole oder Settop-Box. Microsoft outs $30 BlueTrack mice
Microsoft today launched three mice that finally bring the company's BlueTrack sensors to entry-level mice. The Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 leads the introductions and should give notebook users a simple blue laser mouse that can work on unusual surfaces. It works as a simple, ambidextrous three-button mouse with scrolling but has an RF-based USB nano transceiver that should give the mouse eight months of typical use between charges.

Verlage wollen gemeinsam gegen Zensur vorgehen
Wegen der Sperrung zahlreicher Apps macht sich unter den Verlagen verstärkt schlechte Stimmung breit. Offenbar möchte man jetzt zusammenarbeiten und eine gemeinsame Position beziehen. Würde man so bei Apple vorstellig werden, so könnte man nach Meinung des Geschäftsführer des Zeitschriftenverbandes VDZ Änderungen bei Apples Zulassungsrichtlinien herbeiführen.

New App Store 'Explicit' category: For stuff too hardcore for 17 year olds
Apple appears to be addressing the "skin apps" controversy by adding another category to the lineup. The category is not yet in the App Store but it is likely a way to keep some of those racy apps in the store without causing parents and (17 year old) kids significant damage by seeing skin.
Apple currently has a 17+ year old category for apps that contain curse words. Like dictionaries.

Phones will cannibalize dedicated camera sales
Cellphone cameras are on the verge of taking away significant sales of dedicated cameras for the first time, iSuppli said in a new estimate today. While the average camera on a phone had just 2.1 megapixels last year, that number is expected to more than double to 5.7 megapixels by 2013 and come close enough to full-size cameras that it cannibalizes entry-level still cameras. While resolution won't be the only factor, the analysts expect that new sensors, processing, flashes and other techniques will wipe out most of the existing quality gap.

'Tight' supplies reinforce likelihood of MacBook Pro update
Evidence backs notions of a MacBook Pro update within the next few weeks, according to Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu. Distribution supplies are said to be growing short, closer to two to three weeks' worth instead of four to six. Für 1,59 Euro bekommst du die Zeit der Atomuhr aus Braunschweig. Für den ein oder anderen ist dies wohl eher eine sinnfreie Applikation. Jedoch gibt es auch Momente wo man solch eine Uhr vergebens sucht. Das beste Beispiel ist wohl Silvester.

Für alle, die sich gern in den Rechner gucken lassen, hat Microsoft nun das Windows 7 Activation Technologies Update bereitsgestellt. Es ist als solches nicht direkt zu erkennen, im Windows Updater heisst es schlicht "Update für Windows 7", erkennbar ist es allerdings an der Bezeichnung KB971033, die in Klammern dahinter steht. Was genau tut es also? Es dient ausschliesslich dazu "zu überprüfen ob die Windows 7 Kopie auf dem Rechner legitim ist" und "korrekt aktiviert wurde". App-Porträt: Ladestations-Wegweiser f. eCars
Coulomb Technologies, führender Hersteller von Lade-Infrastruktur für Elektrofahrzeuge, hat heute die Verfügbarkeit seiner iPhone App ChargePoint bekannt gegeben - bislang allerdings nur für den US-App Store. Die kostenlose App dient der Navigation zur nächsten oder am günstigsten auf der eigenen Route liegenden Ladestation. Gleichzeitig soll "in real time" der Status der Ladepunkte angezeigt werden: frei, besetzt, out of service. Während des (ja etwas langwierigen) Ladevorgangs informiert die App über dessen Fortschritt.
Einige dieser Funktionen erfordern die Registrierung für einen ChargePoint Network driver account mit aktivierter ChargePass SmartCard für kostenpflichtige Services.

New Samsung 40nm DDR3 will allow 32GB RAM sticks
Samsung on Wednesday said it has started manufacturing a new form of its Green DDR3 memory that will allow for very high capacity RAM. Improvements to 40 nanometer manufacturing have let the company build 4 gigabit (512MB) modules that double the maximum storage possible on a given stick. Put on to a typical RAM stick, it would allow for as much as 32GB of RAM on a server-sized RAM stick. Regular desktop memory sticks could hold 16GB, while even a small notebook SODIMM could hold 8GB.

Die japanische Roboterschmiede ZMP hat das nächste E-Vehikel vorgestellt, mit dessen Hilfe die Entwicklung autonomer Elektro-Autos vorangetrieben werden soll: Das RoboCar G bietet im Gegensatz zu seinem Vorgänger, dem RoboCar Z, Platz für einen Passagier, der das Gefährt auch steuern kann. Dazu gibt es aber auch einen passenden Selbstfahrbausatz mit Sensoren und schlauem Steuer-Computer. An der Entwicklung des neuen RoboCars, das mit einer Batterie einen Aktionsradius von 30 Kilometern hat, waren auch Tüftler von Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru) und Sanyo beteiligt. Hey guys, some fun news to share: Engadget for iPhone / iPod touch 2.0.1 was just approved by Apple and is now available on the App Store! The big new feature is landscape mode in article, comment, and sharing views, but we've also bumped up font sizes, made some improvements to the commenting experience, and added the ability to edit tweets directly in the app. Oh, and you can also now email photos from galleries from within the app, and customize the toolbar. Of course, that's in addition to our regular features like offline viewing, built in streaming for The Engadget Show, and in-app tip submissions -- you know, for when you see the iPhone 3GT leak out.

Italienisches Gericht verurteilt drei Google-Manager
Ein Gericht in Italien hat drei Google-Manager zu Haftstrafen von jeweils sechs Monaten auf Bewährung verurteilt. Grund dafür ist ein im Jahr 2006 von Jugendlichen auf YouTube hochgeladenes Video, in dem zu sehen ist, wie ein behinderter Junge schikaniert und geschlagen wird. Der zuständige Richter ist der Ansicht, dass Google keine ausreichenden Maßnahmen ergriffen habe, um die Privatsphäre des Opfers zu schützen.

Steam gaming platform coming to Mac OS X?
Valve is preparing a Mac version of the Steam gaming platform, evidence suggests. On Wednesday, Windows users were given the option of downloading a new beta interface, featuring changes like a WebKit-based browser, an improved appearance and customizable game groups. Buried within the Steam/Graphics folder, however, are images for 10 Mac-specific buttons. Within Steam/Resource/Menus, there is also a new "osx.menu" file.

Cablevision plans PC-to-TV display streaming
Cablevision today promised a unique extra for those that subscribe to its TV service. PC to TV Media Relay will pipe the video from a computer to the TV through a dedicated TV channel. The service would use a "live" feed and would let users show any content that they could normally see, including both offline content as well as streaming sites like Hulu.

Eigentlich dachten wir, dass solche Mini-Vehikel nur von Clowns benutzt werden, aber es scheint auch jenseits der professionellen Spaßvögel Menschen zu geben, die sich für Mikro-Obskuritäten begeistern: Zum Beispiel der indische Schrauber mit dem YouTube-Pseudonym "santhoshktm", der das kleinste E-Motorrad der Welt gebastelt haben will. Pentax X90 touts claimed 162.5X zoom
Pentax today brought out a replacement for its long-serving X70. As an ultrazoom, the X90 already carries a 26X lens (26-676mm equivalent) but uses an "intelligent zoom" in software to reach 162.5X (4,225mm). Like most of these features, Pentax claims to avoid most of the typical degradation in image quality but hasn't said whether any obvious sacrifices are needed to reach the record-setting distance.

iPad: begehrter als das Ur-iPhone
Mac-Jünger zählen die Tage bis zur Marktverfügbarkeit des iPad. MacRumors berichtet über eine neue Studie der Marktforscher RBC und ChangeWave Research, wonach der Habenwollen-Faktor vor der Markteinführung beim iPad sogar noch stärker als beim allerersten iPhone sei. Zugrunde liegt eine Umfrage, bei der 13 Prozent der befragten 3.200 Menschen sagten, sie würden sich ein iPad kaufen, sobald es lieferbar sei. ChangeWave erinnert daran, dass der Vergleichswert beim iPhone 2G bei 9 Prozent lag. 8 Prozent der Umfrageteilnehmer empfinden die von Apple fürs iPad genannten Preise als problematisch (iPhone 2G: 28 Prozent). 19% der zum Kauf Entschlossenen werden sich für das Einstiegsmodell (499 $, kein UMTS), weitere 19% für das Highend (829$, 64 GB, UMTS) entscheiden.

Eigentlich sollte Spring Designs Alex bereits vor zwei Tagen erschienen sein, nun ist das Release auf die erste Märzwoche verschoben worden. Ab dann soll man den Dual-Screen E-Book Reader mit dem 3,5-Zoll (Android) und 6-Zoll (EPD) Display zumindest in den USA bestellen können, und zwar für 359 Dollar (ca. 256,50 Euro). Italy convicts Google execs over video, ignores safe harbor
A Milan, Italy court today found three of four Google executives guilty for allegedly violating Italian privacy code through an upload to Google Video. David Drummond, Peter Fleischer and ex-employee George Reyes were held responsible for a 2006 incident in which Turin students uploaded video of them bullying an autistic student. None of the four, which included Arvind Desikan, were convicted of the direct criminal defamation charges also attached to the case.

Motorola zeigt mit dem Kopin Golden-i, wie der Handwerker der Zukunft aussehen könnte. Das Konzept für den tragbaren Rechner basiert auf einem am Kopf befestigten SVGA LCD-Bildschirm, welcher es erlaubt, die Umgebung im Auge zu behalten und vor allem eben auch für freie Hände sorgt. DVB-T Fernsehempfang übers Netzwerk
Elgato stellt ein nettes neues Spielzeug fürs vernetzte Heim vor: Der EyeTV Netstream DTT streamt digitales Fernsehen in Standard- oder HDTV-Auflösung (falls verfügbar) auf Macs und Windows-PCs. Der Dual-Tuner für DVB-T kann unabhängig von einem Computer an einer beliebigen Stelle im Haus ins Netzwerk eingebunden werden. Somit lässt er sich problemlos mit der Hausantenne verbinden oder an einem Ort aufstellen, der eine für die beiliegende Stabantenne ausreichende Signalqualität bietet. Die Netzwerkeinbindung muss allerdings über ein Ethernetkabel erfolgen, der Netstream DTT hat keinen integrierten Wi-Fi-Sender/Empfänger. Sofern ein Wi-Fi-Router im Netzwerk vorhanden ist, kann der TV-Stream sowohl kabelgebunden wie auch drahtlos an die empfangenden Computer übertragen werden.

Google executives found guilty of violating privacy of student bullied on video
Hold tight kids, internet privacy laws just got flipped upside down. An Italian judge found three Google executives guilty of violating the privacy of an Italian student who was bullied in a 2006 video posted on Google Video. The video resided on the site for two months before it was brought to Google's attention and pulled. None of the executives were involved in any way in the making of the abhorrent video. Nevertheless, Italian judge Oscar Magi sentenced the execs to a six-month prison sentence but cleared them of defamation charges. No jail time is expected, however, since any sentence of less than 3 years is typically commuted in Italy for those without a criminal record.

SanDisk hat mit den G3 SSDs zwei Flash-Speicherlösungen mit 60 GB und 120 GB Kapazität vorgestellt. New Features with the SDK 3.2b3 iPad
The new SDK for the iPad released yesterday brings many new fetures:
There are some advanced options for managing desktop screen and photos. There are many features indicting the support of a camera able to generate photos/videos. Hardware detection routines are there and corresponding icons to accept or reject video call invitation are also included.
During the keynote, we were already thinking that the model used for the demo was not necessarily the final one, and we think it might be indeed true. It seems quite clear today, that a camera (integrated or added as a BTO) could be connected to the iPad in a near future, and Apple might decide to integrate it with its first generation to push competitors further down and to give customers more features and options on the iPad.

The MagicJack is a VoIP dongle that hooks ye olde landline telephone up to the world of tomorrow via a humble computer. By all accounts, it seems to work pretty well and does the job it promises. Sadly, it doesn't seem like we can say the same about its management team. Die EU prüft Wettbewerbsbeschwerden gegen Google

Forecast: Video steigert mobilen Datenverkehr auf 3,6 EB
Laut eines Berichts von Cisco Visual Networking wird Video den mobilen Datenverkehr bis 2014 auf 3,6 Exabyte pro Monat bzw. 40 EB im Jahr aufpumpen. Letztjährige Vorhersagen von ABI Research hatten noch 1,6 EB/Monat prognostiziert. Sollte Cisco richtig liegen, entspräche das einem kumulierten jährlichen Wachstum von 108 Prozent. Adobe hat ein Security Bulletin veröffentlicht und verspricht, dass das Sicherheitsleck im Download Manager nun beseitigt ist. Einen herunterladbaren Patch gibt es nicht. SanDisk Unveils 10-Years Warranty SSD
Sandisk announced that is long time expected G3 SSD models will have a 10-years warranty. In addition, SanDisk claims that those SSD will be able to support the equivalent of 80 TB of IO.

Ah, wireless power. One of those mythical mysteries that are far more likely to remain "something to strive for" rather than "the next big thing." Oh sure, we've got Palm's Touchstone and the Powermat, but until we can hang a 50-inch plasma from our bedroom ceiling and power it up without a single wire, we'll remain firmly unsatisfied. Tonight, we've been piecing together what appears to be an iPad video recording and still camera application. For a device that has no camera?
We have found video recording indicators, 'take video' buttons, take still photo buttons, video editing toggles, video playback icons, etc. The list goes on and on. Also, in these files are little new tidbits such as a rotate image button and an icon for importing images.
Additionally if this camera is real it was auto-focus according to other images within the iPad SDK. Another feature that will cause some excitement is the addition of cropping photos. There are two images indicating photo cropping.

Google, carriers respond to FCC's ETF inquiry
Google as well as all four major US carriers have today responded to the FCC's inquiry into early termination fees (ETFs). The search firm is the strongest objector and argues that it doesn't belong in an investigation associated with carriers. Our dreams of an actually useful wearable computer have still yet to materialize, but the second-generation Kopin Golden-i concept -- now inconspicuously Motorola-branded -- is an interesting attempt. It's based around a head mounted, magnified SVGA LCD that is meant to be "glanceable" while the user remains aware of their surroundings. Apple has published its 2010 Supplier Responsibility Progress Report detailing compliance with the company's code of conduct. In 2009, 102 facilities were audited in countries such as China, the Czech Republic, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and the US. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Google all respond to FCC's ETF inquiry
All of the players roped into the FCC's early termination fee inquiry -- T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and Google -- have met the Fed's February 23 deadline for responding, and needless to say, you could destroy a small forest with the amount of paperwork that's been sent back to Washington. The majority of the inquiry focused on carriers' ETF pricing structure and whether there are different ETFs involved based on the device a customer chooses, and the subtleties in the differences between answers from different carriers are pretty fascinating.

Die dritte Vorabversion des iPhone SDKs in Version 3.2 erblickte heute Abend (14 Tage nach der letzten Version) nur kurz das Licht der Welt. The communications from NVidia at rock bottom
What can one do when there is nothing to announce but one is required to speak about his company? This is the question that seems to be on the lips of NVidia for some time, and the answer they found is the height of the existential and technological vacuum. To start, the company still announced "new" graphics cards but the only innovation is the version number. Geforce 320,330 and 340 are based on chips from the old generation and only the name changes. The 330 is even a direct derivative of Geforce 8800 GT… Then, the company made a buzz by announcing a future buzz. They created an issue on the social networks by announcing that the Fermi would be revealed on March 26… One is not even certain that it will be launched. Let us wish for them which their shareholders are more inclined to swallow this kind of thing rather than the Net surfers!

Apple adds advanced wallpaper features on iPad simulator
After using the Photos we have found some more small tidbits. Apple has added some advanced wallpaper settings that are not currently found on the iPhone or iPod. It has been known that users will be able to customize their home screen wallpaper, but this has yet to be seen in the previous two SDK betas. In the photos app when you select an image, you can choose to set it as the "Lock Screen" or "Home Screen" wallpaper. There is also an option which allows you to simultaneously set an image as the wallpaper for both aspects of the device. Furthermore it is also possible to have a different images as the lock screen and home screen wallpapers. More below:

Apple exec slams Microsoft stores, netbooks
Apple chief financial officer Tim Cook took shots at Microsoft's retail stores today in his presentation at Goldman-Sachs' Technology & Internet Conference.
