ComEd launches pilot solar energy program for 100 customers in Chicago
Chicago utility company ComEd announced earlier this week it will launch a pilot program for 100 of its customers to test out the power of the sun. The program will include the installation of solar panels into 100 homes, and further devices -- such as smarter thermostats which do things like lower during the day when no one's at home, and give out hourly pricing information -- in fifty of those homes. The meters will also have the ability to reward customers who generate excess solar power that can be pumped back into the grid -- because everybody loves being rewarded, right? Google defends HTC in Apple lawsuit
Google today more formally put its weight behind HTC in defense against Apple's lawsuit. The company hasn't become an official component of the lawsuit but in a statement defended Android and the partners that make its phones. HTC has been key to Google's strategy and produced several of the most important devices, including the Nexus One, G1 and myTouch 3G.

Optoma joins the 3D party with HW536 and EX762 DLP projectors
If 3D monitors aren't doing it for you, here are a couple of larger display options -- our lucky pals over at Engadget Chinese witnessed the birth of Optoma's first two 3D projectors in Taiwan yesterday. Pictured on the left is the HW536 cinema DLP projector (NT$36,900 or about US$1,150), which has HDMI input and projects a 1,280 x 800 image at 2,800 lumens with a 3,000:1 contrast ratio. ActyMac unveils DutyWatch Remote monitoring utility
ActyMac has launched a new surveillance utility for the Mac, DutyWatch Remote. The program monitors the activity of one or multiple computers, and has tools for capturing screenshots, spying on keystrokes and recording which applications are used. Oops: TiVo Premiere won't have Comcast On Demand
This TiVo Premiere screenshot with a large Comcast On Demand logo on it certainly set a few hearts aflutter yesterday when it was released from the company, but our dreams have turned into bitter, bitter ashes: TiVo tells us this screenshot is actually just a mockup and not indicative of any actual partnership. And double-oops: that other interesting screenshot with "Friends Recommend" on the Browse screen is also a mockup, meaning our hopes for some social-media integration have also been dashed, at least for now. Oh well. Let's hope our forthcoming Premiere review units can somehow turn these frowns upside-down.

Sonnet deploys Fusion D800P2 RAID system

Studie: Mobiler Facebook- und Twitter-Zugriff wächst nennenswert
Die Mobil-Spezialisten von comScore haben für die aktuellste Ausgabe ihrer MobiLens Reports das Phänomen Social Networks-Zugriff via Mobile Browser untersucht. Aus den Ergebnissen: 30,8% der Smartphone-Nutzer im comScore-Netzwerk haben im Januar 2010 auf Social Networks via Mobile Browser zugegriffen (im Vergleich zu nur 22,5% im Vergleichsmonat 2009). Speziell der mobile Zugriff auf Facebook stieg um 112%, der auf Twitter sogar um 347%! comScore fügt dieser Presseinformation den Satz hinzu: "These figures do not include access of the social networking services by the nearly 6 million mobile phone owners who do so exclusively through mobile applications."

Acer rights its wrongs with K11 pico projector
Why hello there, Acer. Not only does this K11 DLP pico projector look sexier than its predecessor, but it's also been given some nice internal enhancements. Starting with display performance: the K11's resolution remains about the same at 858 x 600, but it's twice as bright at 200 lumens (while maintaining the same 20,000-hour lamp life) and has twice as much contrast ratio at 2,000:1. As for connectivity this machine now packs an HDMI socket (along with the usual VGA and composite AV ports) as well as an SDHC card reader and a USB port for opening music, video and picture files. aTV Flash 4.1 expands support for 5.1-channel audio
Fire Core has released an update to its AppleTV add-on, aTV Flash. Version 4.1 expands support for 5.1-channel audio from a wide range of media formats, including DVD files. Valve confirms intent to produce Mac games
Valve is indeed planning to port some of its most popular games to the Mac, confirms the developer's marketing VP, Doug Lombardi. A teaser image (seen below) makes reference to Apple's famous "Get a Mac" ads, and the characters of Mac and PC played by Justin Long and John Hodgman. Standing in their place are turrets from Portal and Team Fortress 2, implying that these will be two of the first games to be ported.

Murdoch confirms WSJ coming to iPad, device kept 'under padlock and key'
It only came at the tail end of an announcement of a new New York metro section for The Wall Street Journal, but Rupert Murdoch has finally confirmed that the paper will indeed be heading to the iPad. The really interesting bit, however, is that not only is the company now being allowed to work on an iPad, but that Murdoch says it's kept "under padlock and key," and that "the key is turned by Apple every night" -- a bit of hyperbole, maybe, but then again, maybe not. In other newspapers-going-digital news, Murdoch also said that the WSJ would be heading to half a dozen or more other devices within a year, although he didn't name any specific devices.

ProKit 5.1 update fixes scrolling, memory leaks
Apple has released an update for ProKit, the framework undergirding several of its professional-level apps. These include Aperture, the Final Cut suite and the Pro and Express versions of Logic. The v5.1 patch fixes an issue with scrolling behavior, and a more crucial problem with memory leaks, which should help improve performance.

Super Talent intros new USB 3.0 SuperCrypt drive
Super Talent has introduced SuperCrypt, a new USB 3.0 drive with AES hardware encryption. The new USB drive offers transfer speeds of up to 240MBps and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports, albeit at the necessarily slower speeds. Two different AES encryption options are offered for the drive, one of which is 128-bit ECB encryption which comes with the regular SuperCrypt, while the other 256-bit XTS encryption is available for the SuperCrypt Pro.

Apple security has iPad under lock and key at WSJ
Apple has someone over at the Wall St. Journal HQ in New York City keeping an eye on their loaner iPad if remarks from Rupert Murdoch are taken at face value.
Mr. Murdoch said the Journal planned to be on Apple Inc.'s iPad tablet computer. "In fact, we've been allowed to work on one, and it's under padlock and key. Virgin Mobile ups prepaid data caps
Virgin Mobile USA on Wednesday set higher data limits for its Broadband2Go prepaid mobile data plans. The pricing schemes remain the same, but users get between 20 and 500 percent more data in all but the entry-level plan. Cebit Acers Netbook Aspire One 532g setzt praktisch auf dem 532 auf. Einzige Unterschiede, zumindest von außen: Das Display ist verspiegelt und ein USB-Anschluss musste dem HDMI-Anschluss weichen, den Acer mit dem Ion2-Grafikkern ermöglicht. Motorola HS1001 cordless Android phone hands-on
Well this is a bit different -- it looks as if the big M is looking to put a little Android (v1.6, if you must know) in the home with this DECT 6.0 phone. Though the device is made by Binatone, the Hong Kong-based company will be selling a $150 Motorola branded version of its cordless phone in the US come this summer. While this isn't the first time we've seen an Android desk phone, this particular one packs WiFi so you can use the 2.8-inch touch display on its back to not only dial up mom, but also surf the web or check email. We did ask if you could make Skype calls on WiFi, but the app won't be preloaded and the phone won't have Marketplace support. The Apple patent lawsuit filed against HTC could take a long time to resolve, analysts argue. Needham's Charlie Wolf suggests that it could be a "long and bloody battle," in part because Apple has surrounded the iPhone with a "patent moat" meant to be difficult or impossible to cross. Virgin America site drops Flash to court iPhone
Virgin America late Tuesday said it has dropped Flash altogether from its website. The change, which quietly took effect Monday, instead just uses newer web technologies like CSS. Das ist doch mal ein Preis: 85 Dollar soll das 7-Zoll Netbook NBPC722 von Coby kosten (bei uns wahrscheinlich etwa genauso viel in Euro), der hier so schnuckelig auf seinem Stand auf der CeBIT steht. Für das Geld kann man sich normalerweise gerade mal neue Druckerpatronen holen, dementsprechend sparsam sind allerdings auch die Specs ausgefallen: 624 MHz Marvell PXA303 Prozessor, Windows CE und 2 GB Flash. AT&T CEO doesn't think many people will use the iPad on 3G
With an exemplary track record of wireless network load planning like AT&T's, it's important to listen to what they believe will happen with future products. Nikon says it's developing a competitor to Canon's G11
Well, here's something you don't hear everyday -- a Nikon exec saying that Canon's PowerShot G11 is the "benchmark" against which other compact cameras are measured. According to Nikon UK's senior product manager Kevin Egan, however, that may not be the case for much longer, as he says that Nikon is now developing a new Coolpix model that will give the G11 a run for its money. Murdoch confirms WSJ iPad plans, cites extreme secrecy
A specific Wall Street Journal effort for the iPad is in development, confirms Rupert Murdoch, the CEO of the newspaper's parent company, News Corp.. AMD's new AMD 890GX HD chipset announced, reviewed, lauded
AMD has officially announced the predecessor to its 790GX chipset, and the kids at Hot Hardware have not only put it through its paces but have been kind enough to let us in on their results. Apparently the two 890GX they tested should at least perform "on par" with previous AMD platforms, although the integrated Radeon HD 4290 graphics (performing at a none-too-shabby 700MHz, according to the company) were found to be "superior to any other AMD IGP," even surpassing the performance of Intel's HD Graphics solution in a number of tests. Why didn't Apple sue Google?
Apple is using (and touting) too much of Google's technology at the moment to be suing Google by name. By suing their biggest handset partner, they are isolating Android rather than Google as a whole. Is Google too important for Apple to sue? Maybe not, but I have a feeling that Apple would like to have its own Maps applications sooner rather than later.

Hands-On: MSIs F Serie mit NVIDIA Optimus

Auch wenn MSI die F-Serien-Laptops nicht offiziell an der CeBIT vorgestellt hat, haben unsere US-Kollegen den 14-Zoller FX400 und den 15,6-Zoller FX600 nebst NVIDIAs neuem Optimus Grafikchip mit ihrem unfehlbaren Sinn für Neuigkeiten entdeckt. MSI-typisch sieht es so aus, als ob es diverse Varianten der beiden geben wird, die wahrscheinlich alle mit einem i5-Prozessor und NVIDIAs Technologie zum schnellen Wechseln zwischen intergrierter Grafik und der GeForce Grafik kommen werden. Acer Aspire One 532G with ION 2 priced at an aggressive 379 euros
Now that's how to get our attention. While the English-speaking portion of the Acer press conference left much to be desired, the second half, decidedly more German in vernacular, had a couple great tidbits. Most notable is a price of Acer's AspireOne 532G, the ION 2-equipped netbook initially espied at Mobile World Congress. The slide says it all, sort of: 379 euros -- mighty aggressive, and if history tells us anything, there's a good chance it'll be about $379 when it comes stateside, too. No word on release date as far as we can tell, but you'll definitely want to keep an eye out for this one.

WD dips into mainstream SSDs with SiliconEdge Blue
Western Digital this morning launched into the field of solid-state drives for the home by releasing the SiliconEdge Blue. The 2.5-inch SATA II drive is considered a drop-in replacement to speed up disk performance for notebooks or gaming desktops and has the performance to match. Among other SSDs, the Blue is fast with 250MB per second peak read speeds and 170MB for writes.

Apples Patentklage: Google stellt sich hinter HTC
Apple gab gestern bekannt, eine Klage genen HTC beim US-Handelsministerium und beim US-Bezirksgericht in Delaware eingereicht zu haben. HP bringt Notebooks mit Core-i3-CPU ab 550 Euro
Hewlett-Packard hat zwei Notebooks für Privatanwender mit Intels Core-i3-CPU vorgestellt. What happens when technology companies win patent disputes?
The New York Times talks to some legal analysts today who discuss what happens when technology companies win patent disputes. Take the case of Tivo vs. EchoStar:
Jonathan Zittrain, a professor at Harvard Law School, outlines a similar case in his book “The Future of the Internet — and How to Stop It.” In 2004, TiVo sued the satellite TV distributor EchoStar, accusing the company of infringing on its patent on DVR technology. After some drawn-out litigation, TiVo ended up winning the case, and a Texas judge ordered EchoStar to disable the DVR functions on most of its set-top boxes. An appeals court is reviewing the matter.“

We happened upon Coby's booth at CeBIT this morning and of all the fairly cheap feeling laptops the company had on display it was its 7-inch NBPC722 smartbook that cozied right up to us. Okay, so it isn't as thin or attractive as the $499 Lenovo's Skylight, but again let us remind you that it costs about as much as a couple of new printer ink cartridges. Nikon developing rival to Canon G11?
Nikon is developing a rival to Canon's PowerShot G11, the company's UK senior product manager Kevin Egan said in a recent interview. He told Amateur Photographer that the G11 is considered a "benchmark" for high-end prosumer compacts and that a model should come out soon with similar performance. While short on what this entails, Egan did say it would likely borrow technology from Nikon's DSLRs and have the build of a high-end Coolpix point-and-shoot.

China Unicom continues push for Wi-Fi iPhone
China Unicom is in talks with Apple regarding a Wi-Fi-capable iPhone for China, according to the carrier's CEO, Chang Xiaobing. "I know that in the market there is hope we will offer an iPhone with Wi-Fi," Xiaobing recently remarked outside an event in Beijing. "We have been holding talks with Apple in this area." Erst im Dezember hat ThinkFlood mit RedEye ein System vorgestellt, mit dem iPhone und Co zur IR-Fernbedienung werden, allerdings etwas umständlich (eine Box empfängt WiFi und sendet IR) und teuer (125 Euro). Sony releases stylized headsets in Asia-Pacific
Sony has introduced a new series of style-conscious headphones with integrated microphone suitable for online gaming and VoIP. Verizon suffers US-wide data outage
Verizon cellphone customers on Wednesday reported a seemingly US-wide data outage. The issue affects both conventional data for all devices as well as messaging services like BlackBerry e-mail and MMS. ASUS introduces O!Play HD2, first networked media player with USB 3.0
Chances are you're not a part of the SuperSpeed revolution yet, and that's okay. It's early days yet, but ASUS is doing its part to make that transition to USB 3.0 a little more appealing with its O!Play HD2. A follow-up to the earlier O!Play models, the HD2 offers what looks to be plenty of connectivity options (we're seeing USB, memory cards, and eSATA) and promises a "wealth of cloud infotainment." Vorratsdatenspeicherung: es darf gelöscht werden, allein bei der Telekom 19 Terabyte
Nachdem gestern das Bundesverfassungsgeicht die derzeitige Handhabung der Vorratsdatenspeicherung für verfassungswidrig erklärt hatte, beginnen die Telefonanbieter nun damit, die Daten zu löschen. Die Deutsche Telekom hat immerhin 19 Terabyte an Vorratsdaten angesammelt und braucht nach eigener Aussage "ein wenig Zeit" zum Löschen. Auskünfte zu Vorratsdaten werden aber nicht mehr erteilt, außerdem natürlich auch keine neuen mehr erhoben. Bereits gestern hatte Vodafone damit begonnen, seine Vorratsdaten zu löschen. Ob die Vorratsdatenspeicherung auch auf EU-Ebene fällt, ist noch unklar, aber nicht unwahrscheinlich.[via Golem.de]

Verizon suffering 'nationwide' data outage
Having a little trouble checking in on your tweeps this morning on your Droid? Is your new Pre Plus not syncing with Facebook, or your Storm2 acting a little too calm? The problem seems to lie with Verizon, which is suffering from a "nationwide" data outage at the moment. The reason we keep putting that in quotes is because we in NY are not affected (our Droid is connecting just fine) but Verizon representatives have confirmed the issue, while people in various places all over the US are unable to connect according to the forums we've been perusing this morning.

MSI's race car inspired F Series packs NVIDIA Optimus, we go hands-on
While MSI didn't have an official unveiling of the new F Series laptops at CeBIT, the 14-inch FX400 and 15.6-inch FX600 models and their NVIDIA Optimus placards were the first thing that caught our eye at the company's booth. Foxconn: iPad on track, 600K due in March
Talk of an iPad shortage in March was rejected today in a reported leak from within Foxconn's own part suppliers. They claim that the components are on track and that Apple should get about 600,000 to 700,000 iPads in March, or at least twice as many as suggested by one Canaccord Adams analyst. The same sources also tell DigiTimes that 1 million of the tablets are expected in April and that they still expect Apple to launch the hardware on time.

Spanische Behörden nehmen Botnetz-Betreiber fest
Die spanischen Behörden haben laut Associated Press drei Männer verhaftet, die ein Botnetz mit 12,7 Millionen infizierten PC in mehr als 190 Ländern betrieben haben sollen, um Kreditkarten- und Bank-Login-Daten zu stehlen. Zu den infizierten Rechnern zählten auch Computer innerhalb von Firmen, darunter ungefähr die Hälfte der Fortune-1000-Liste. Betroffen waren nach den Berichten auch 40 Banken.

iSuppli sagt Lieferengpässe bei Leuchtdioden voraus
iSuppli geht davon aus, dass der Bedarf an Leuchtdioden (LED) im Lauf des Jahres um 23 Prozent auf 80 Milliarden Stück steigen wird. Ein namentlich nicht genannter kalifornischer Apple Store-Manager trägt nun auch noch sein Scherflein zu den Gerüchten um den Verkaufsstart des iPads bei: "Höchstwahrscheinlich" wird es am 26. März losgehen, die Angestellten der Apple Stores sollen aber schon ab dem 10.März zu Trainingszwecken in den Genuss des heiss erwarteten Tablets kommen. Am 15. Virgin-Airline verzichtet auf Flash
Die Fluggesellschaft Virgin will auf iPhone-Anwender nicht verzichten. Deshalb hat sie nun alle Flash-Anwendungen von ihrer Internetseite verbannt.

Nach einem kleinen Hacker-Angriff waren unsere Datenbank heute Vormittag für einige Stunden nicht verfügbar. Wir wollen hiermit für die Unannehmlichkeiten um Entschuldigung bitten.
Ausgerechnet zum einmonatigen Jubiläum von appgefahren.de hat sich ein Spaßvogel wohl einen kleinen Scherz erlaubt und sämtliche Datenbanken und FTP-Accounts bei unserem Anbieter gelöscht.

Google surely has an opinion on the bombshell news that Apple is suing HTC for patent infringement, right? I mean, they are who Apple is really after — it isn't HTC's Windows Mobile 6.5 phones is it?

We all know by now that AT&T has secured the rights to furnish US iPad owners with 3G connectivity, but apparently the market desire for that service won't be quite as big as we might have expected. Warm sollte man also noch irgendjemanden über das Handynetz anrufen, wenn es auch kostenlos geht? Bei der CeBIT-Vorstellung seiner neuesten Kreation zog der Hersteller von Navigationssoftware Sygic alle Register: Sygic AURA verbindet laut Hersteller "professionelle Auto- und komfortable Fußgäger-Navigation mit Social Networks, 3D-Darstellung und Unterstützung der Sprachausgabe in über 20 Sprachen. Das System basiert auf Kartenmaterial von Tele Atlas und integriert POIs sowie Einträge aus Wikis und Stadtführern. Die "3D"-Ansichten nutzen die aus Computerspielen bekannte Ästhetik für lebensechtere Navigationen. Die Fahrzeugnavigation stellt Fahrspulassistent sowie Hinweise auf Geschwindigkeitsbeschränkungen und fest positioniere Radarfallen zur Verfügung.

Google Sync: Sync- und Push-Dienste machen Probleme

Symantec: Botnetze führen zu mehr Spam im Februar
Symantec hat im Februar eine Zunahme des Spam-Aufkommens um 5,5 Prozent gegenüber Januar ermittelt. Der Anteil unerwünschter Nachrichten an allen weltweit verschickten E-Mails betrug im vergangenen Monat 89,4 Prozent. iPad voraussichtlich ab 26. März erhältlich
Von offizieller Seite gibt es bislang nur die Aussage "Wi-Fi Modelle erhältlich ab Ende März.
3G Modelle erhältlich ab April" zum Lieferzeitpunkt des iPad. Der genaue Termin für den Verkaufsstart soll laut AppleInsider nun jedoch mit dem 26. März feststehen. Angeblich ließ sich der Manager eines amerikanischen Apple Stores nicht nur diese Information entlocken, sondern wusste weiter zu berichten, dass die ersten Trainings für Mitarbeiter für den 10. März angesetzt sind und Apple am 15. März mit der Ausstrahlung von Werbespots beginnen will.

Hedgefonds bietet 1,8 Milliarden Dollar für Novell

iBookstore: Erste Ausweitungsanzeichen
Apple arbeitet zwar bereits an der Erweiterung des zum Verkaufsstart des iPad nur für die USA geplanten elektronischen Bücherladens iBookstore, von einem Sprung nach Europa ist bislang allerdings noch nichts zu sehen.
Nach einer aktuellen Stellenanzeige zu urteilen, haben momentan Kanada, Australien und Neuseeland die besten Chancen auf einen baldigen Start des Angebots.
Hierzulande wird es wohl nicht nur wegen der erforderlichen Lokalisierung des Angebots, sondern auch wegen der nicht eindeutig geklärten rechtlichen Situation (Buchpreisbindung) noch ein ganzes Weilchen dauern, bis Apple in die Startlöcher kommt.

Apple gets upset at labels for pursuing Amazon Daily Deal
iTunes has such a strong control over the music industry that it is hard for us to imagine anything in that domain out of Apple's control. But that has happened just this week, according to Ed Christman at Billboard. Ed contends that Apple is pressuring the record labels not to deal with Amazon and their Daily Deal, which allows users to purchase the album at a reduced price one day before it is generally released.
What upset Apple in particular was that Amazon would have the release one day before they did.
"When that happened," the executive says, "iTunes said, 'Enough of that shit.' "

Researchers shows off self-contained, 9mm solar power system
Advances in solar power aren't always the most immediately exciting sort of developments (a more efficient solar panel still looks like a solar panel), but this new solar power system developed at the University of Michigan certainly won't have any trouble turning a few heads. Not only is it 1,000 times smaller than any comparable commercial counterpart (just 9 cubic millimeters), but its processor, solar cells, and battery are all self-contained, and the researchers say it would be be able to operate "nearly perpetually" if not for the battery eventually giving out after "many years." Will the iPad make emergency calls? Regular calls?
From the iPad SDK, it looks like the iPad can make emergency calls.
The above was easily achieved by enabling a passcode lock, and then entering it incorrectly about 5 times. You can then slide for a emergency call.
We're not sure why Apple included this functionality, but it may be related to FCC regulations that all wireless "phones" be able to make emergency calls, even if the phones aren't currently active or even assigned a number.

AT&T talks "variable pricing model" ...a few weeks in the future
AT&T CEO Randall L. Stephenson talked at a investor conference today according to the Wall St. Journal.
He said that AT&T is carrying half of the nation's wireless data traffic. He said that carriers will eventually move to a "variable pricing model," and that it was inevitable that heavy users should pay more than low users.
By "eventually", he means starting in a few weeks. The iPad will be on a prepaid $15/month for 250MB and $30/month for Unlimited (5GB). Get used to it.

TiVo Premiere hands-on
We've gotten our first look at the new TiVo Premiere interface, and it sure is shiny. You sure wouldn't see that it's running in Flash at first blush, since the UI is quite responsive and "native" feeling, with live streams of video playing without a hitch. The biggest hint that there's a big amount of reliance on the internet is the fact that the choked connection here was causing thumbnails and even some UI icons to take a little while to pop in. MSI and ASUS show off 3D all-in-ones at CeBIT
There's no escaping that 3D trend, that's for sure. Both ASUS and MSI are demoing 3D versions of their respective all-in-one PCs here at CeBIT, though both companies say they are just concept models at this point. ASUS' 3D Eee Top wasn't up and running, but there was a pair of NVIDIA-branded glasses next to it which hints that they may be exploring putting 3D Vision into its touchscreen system. We had better luck at MSI, where we got to put on a rather large pair of shades and watch some very happy show-goers play Left 4 Dead in 3D. TiVo Series4 pushes online video, QWERTY remote
TiVo fought back in digital media tonight by launching the Series4, its long-planned overhaul of its DVRs. The new models center on a heavily redesigned, Flash-based and HD native interface that now puts online video services like Amazon VOD, Blockbuster and Netflix on a higher level than before; content available through those will appear in the same searches that spotlight regular TV shows. More Internet deals are also coming that will include Internet radio from Pandora and a mix of news, photos and status updates through FrameChannel.

Laut Berichten des Examiner könnte das iPad seinen Verkaufsstart am 26. März erleben und bereits knapp zwei Wochen vorher zwecks Training in die Retail Stores gehen.

iPad to reach retail staff March 10, get ads March 15?
Apple may pursue an uncharacteristic strategy of building awareness of the iPad in advance, a rumor maintains tonight. Insiders, and supposedly the manager of a southern California Apple store, claim that retail staff will get to see the iPad themselves on March 10th, about two weeks before Apple's late March release window. The Examiner also insists TV ads would also start airing earlier than usual, on March 15th; with notable exceptions Apple normally waits until a device is on the verge of release or already available to start its marketing.

Apple in talks for cloud-based iTunes movies
Apple is talking to movie studios about letting iTunes customers stream full-length features, a leak Tuesday evening suggests. Two anonymous sources aware of the negotiations say it would echo similar discussions for music and TV that would take iTunes away from its dependence on movie downloads and to a locker that would simply hold what the user owns and stream it accordingly. The move would likely be targeted at the iPad and notebooks, where free storage is at a premium.

Sony files for 'PlayStation Arc' trademark in Japan -- all but a done deal?
Sony's PlayStation Motion Controller has gone through a few different names during its development, but "Arc" has cropped up far more than any other over the past few months, and it's now looking increasingly like a sure thing.
