iTunes has such a strong control over the music industry that it is hard for us to imagine anything in that domain out of Apple's control. But that has happened just this week, according to Ed Christman at Billboard. Ed contends that Apple is pressuring the record labels not to deal with Amazon and their Daily Deal, which allows users to purchase the album at a reduced price one day before it is generally released.
What upset Apple in particular was that Amazon would have the release one day before they did.
"When that happened," the executive says, "iTunes said, 'Enough of that shit.' "
