iPad App Store screenshots leaked
Well, look at this. If you've been desperate to know what your App Store experience would be like on the iPad, here's a chance to live the dream. Apparently these shots were discovered while the App Annie folks (an app tracking and analytics site) were "searching for clues" on the device and this "actual feed" was stumbled upon. While that's all very unclear, what isn't unclear is that Apple will be using the HD moniker to denote applications that have either been tweaked in a special iPad version, or have had their resolution upped so they wouldn't just be scaled standard apps. Briefly: MacBook 1TB upgrade, Limited edition iPhone cases
A new 1TB hard drive upgrade service for the MacBook Pro has been launched by MyService. The upgrade service includes a new Scorpio Blue drive from Western Digital, which fits perfectly within the 13", 15", and 17" unibody MacBook Pros. The cost of the upgrade is $345 and includes the new 1TB drive, round trip shipping, professional installation, and data transfer. After placing their order a customer is shipped a custom laptop shipping container that can be dropped off at any UPS Store location and tracked online.

Apple snaps up iPad trademark from Fujitsu
Apple has quietly but quickly resolved a possible trademark dispute with Fujitsu by successfully negotiating the rights to the iPad name. A USPTO filing showed that the iPad trademark was transferred over to Apple on March 17th. The American company had tried to legally force the switch after Fujitsu had technically abandoned the trademark last year but appears to have settled the matter early.

Amazon starts Kindle TV ads to upstage iPad
Amazon has begun running TV ads (viewable below) for the Kindle in a bid to draw attention away from the iPad, recent viewers have noticed. The two promos so far are partly Apple-influenced and dominated by indie rock or pop, followed by a shot of the product and a simple "books in 60 seconds" slogan. Amazon's ads try to be more colorful and show readers 'living' the events of the books they read in stop-motion.

Browservorschau enthält kurzzeitig Hinweise auf iPad Apps
Offenbar haben sich nach der Freigabe des iPhone SDK 3.2 zahlreiche Entwickler, vorwiegend von Spielen, an die Arbeit gemacht ihre ersten Apps für das Gerät zu schreiben, die dann womöglich auch gleich zum Launch dabei sein sollen. Apple on Friday accidentally slipped a list of approved iPad apps ahead of schedule, although the titles were quickly removed. PadGadget noticed a range of apps labeled 'HD,' a common tag that developers are using to designate iPad variants.

Late crackdown hits iPad pre-orders over two units
Apple is only now canceling some mistakenly large iPad pre-orders, MacNN can confirm from sources. An order of three iPads placed some time ago has only today resulted in an e-mail from Apple saying the request can't be fulfilled. "Thank you for your recent Apple order," the message reads. "To ensure that all customers are given equal opportunity to acquire this product we have limited the amount available per customer. Therefore, this order has been cancelled."

Apple erhält von Fujitsu die Marke iPad
Über Tarnfirmen wollte Apple die Marke "iPad" in mehreren Ländern schützen lassen, auch für die USA gab es diese Bestrebungen. That was easy: Apple buys iPad trademark from Fujitsu
There's no indication as to what sort of wildness went on behind closed doors, but Apple is now the proud new owner of a slightly used "iPad" trademark. Fujitsu, who filed for ownership in March of 2003 to cover a Windows CE device for point-of-sale, doesn't seem to have put up much of a fight, and after a mere seven years of ownership (with a bit of a hazy period in 2009) has assigned the name to Apple. We don't know why, but we assume a nice pile of cash, or maybe some somehow legitimate legal threats as well, had something to do with it. Jobs, Schmidt spotted talking business in public
Apple chief Steve Jobs and his Google counterpart Eric Schmidt were seen today talking business in a sign of a possible warm-up in relations between the two rivals. Meeting earlier today at the Calafia in Palo Alto's Town and Country shopping center, the two were engaged in a calm discussion that may have been related to web content. An eyewitness told Gizmodo that the conversation was largely a one-sided conversation by Jobs, but that he was animated and at one point enthusiastic.

It looks like Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt don't hate each other as much as the NYT and Jim Goldman think
That's right folks, Steve Jobs, (recently described by CNBC's Jim Goldman as "simply hating" Eric Schmidt) was having coffee with him, just this afternoon! A Gizmodo tipster sent this photo (and a few others) of the pair having a nice, civilized time at Calafia in Palo Alto earlier today, sort of taking a bit of steam out of the idea that they've ended their "beautiful friendship." Now, call us cynical, but we're willing to bet the two ventured into this very public place together just to disprove the recent rumors of the failed relationship. Google: ad revenue sharing isn't Android-specific
Google today downplayed accusations that it was using ad revenue as a carrier incentive to push Android deals. The company said its search deals weren't limited to Android and that it shared revenue whenever Google was the default search engine. It added that such deals aren't uncommon, although it still declined to provide any details of its carrier arrangements.

Radio Shack plans massive iPhone promotion
Radio Shack will make a major push in iPhone sales this Sunday, a report claims. A front-page promotion is expected to kick off the expansion of sales to 3,000 out of 4,500 stores across the US, making Radio Shack the second-largest iPhone retailer in the country, bigger than Best Buy or even the device's official cellular carrier, AT&T. Walmart will continue to have the largest number of physical sales locations.

News: Radio Shack set to expand iPhone sales
Radio Shack is preparing to offer the iPhone in 3,000 of its 4,500 stores across the U.S. beginning March 28, according to an AppleInsider report. NPD: 51% of buyers would rather have netbook over iPad
Just over half of younger, prospective iPad buyers would rather have a netbook or notebook than the Apple tablet, the NPD found in a new study. Among 18-to-34 year olds, 51 percent would prefer a conventional portable than the iPad. Owning an existing Apple device also wasn't enough to sway some users as 44 percent still would rather get a computer like the MacBook than the slate design.

Victorinox unveils Secure Pro USB drive
Victorinox on Friday expanded its line of USB drives with the Secure Pro. The new device integrates several levels of security, with data protected using 256-bit AES encryption. Users can also take advantage of a fingerprint scanner, built directly onto the removable USB stick. Apple accelerates hiring for North Carolina data center
Apple is opening up hiring for its new North Carolina data center, job listings show. Ten positions have become available at the Maiden-based facility, where previously the only work listed was for a chief operating engineer, who remains unhired. The new staff should include four maintenance technicians, two site services technicians, a site services manager, a site coordinator, a mechanical technician and an electrical technician.

iPad pre-orders seen at 240,000 in two weeks
A new estimate today has shown that iPad pre-orders are still on track to beat the iPhone's initial launch numbers. With advance orders believed to have hit 190,000 last week, the rate of purchases has slowed down but should still have reached 240,000 of the tablets as of Friday. The current average of about 7,000 pre-orders per day would have the iPad beat the 2007 iPhone's 270,000 launch weekend units by Monday based purely on online sales.

Pre gets a nasty 800MHz overclock patch for all to enjoy (at one's own risk)
Looking to harness the real power inside of your Pre (or Pre Plus)? If that's the case, you're going to love what a couple of Palm-loving hackers have come up with. Namely, a major overclock kernel patch for the device which boosts the CPU speed from a measly 500MHz all the way up to a finger-searing 800MHz (there's also a more tame 720MHz variation available). The two phone magicians, unixpsycho and caj2008, have tapped into the power of the Pre's CPU with a small file that can be semi-easily installed using WebOSQuickInstall and a tiny bit of Linux command-line activity. So far, it looks like phones being tested with the somewhat risky tweak haven't experienced too much of the normally expected issues (crashes, freezing, phones exploding). Accessory listings hint at Samsung NX5 digital camera
Well, it looks like Samsung's NX10 hybrid DSLR may be about to get some company. While everything is still far from official, at last one online retailer is now listing a number of accessories that are apparently compatible with both the NX10 and a hereto unheard of NX5 camera, which would presumably be a less expansive, possibly more compact version of the NX10 (pictured above). That's backed up somewhat by a rumor that K-rumors has heard, which suggested that the NX5 would lack a built-in EVF and run between $499 and $599 depending on your choice of lens.

Apple executives sell over 1 million in personal shares
Several Apple executives have become even richer after a stock selloff on Thursday, Fortune reports. Over a million restricted Apple shares became fully vested on Wednesday, and the next morning, four executives sold most of them under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan. COO Tim Cook is noted to have profited most, having sold 300,000 shares at prices ranging from $226.90 to $230.70; the shares were originally worth $72.01 apiece. Cook's total haul is noted to have been $68.8 million, although $32 million was diverted to taxes.

FaceVsion rolls out 720p FVexpress webcam combo kit
FaceVsion already debuted its TouchCam N1 Skype HD webcam at CES, and it's now followed that up with its new FVexpress Combo kit, which is apparently tailored specifically for Google Talk users. That kit includes the company's FV TouchCam L1 HD webcam (pictured above), as well as an FVexpress ExpressCard that does hardware H.264 encoding of the video before streaming it over the internet with the included QuLives communication manager software (which is itself fully compatible with Google Talk). All of that expectedly pushes this kit past the usual cost of a webcam, but the $149.95 asking price isn't exactly too extravagant considering what you're getting.

AT&T kündigt intelbasiertes Tablet an

Spotify due in US by summer, BlackBerry and webOS in tow
Spotify's unlimited music streaming should go live in the US by the summer, the company's Senior VP Paul Brown said Thursday. The company has been installing servers and said it only has easy license negotiations to complete before it took Spotify online between July and September. Firmware corruption probe implicates at least one RealSSD C300
We don't know too many folks who shelled out the dosh for Crucial's RealSSD C300, so perhaps it's no surprise that we haven't heard too many complaints about the the thing. We do know at least one high roller who got his hands on one, however, and for him things are definitely not going so swimmingly. Nokia buys developer to help mobile web browsing
Nokia today said it had bought Chicago-based Novarra through acquiring all its shares. The younger company has been known for developing high speed mobile web browsers as well as platforms for services. Unlike most such deals, Nokia explicitly noted that its goal was to improve Internet access on its phones and expects a new Nokia-branded service at the end of the year.

Gameloft verzeichnet für 2009 Gewinn
Vor kurzem wurde der Geschäftsbericht des vergangenen Jahres von Gameloft veröffentlicht. Der Hersteller gehört zu den führenden Entwicklern von Videospielen für Mobiltelefone und auch iPhone und iPod Touch. Man konnte den Konzernumsatz gegenüber dem Vorjahr steigern.

Vodafone Essar ready to sell iPhone 3GS in India
Vodafone's Indian division, Vodafone Essar, has begun selling the iPhone 3GS in the country. The carrier will have to compete with Bharti Airtel, which is launching on the same day. Essar is offering both pre-paid and subscription data plans; the latter cost 200, 499 or 699 rupees per month, and offer 100, 250 or 600MB of data before regular rates kick in. The pre-paid option includes no bundle but costs only 100 rupees a month, just over $2 US.

USB mass storage support coming to Xbox 360 on April 6th
We had a pretty firm idea that this was happening, but now Major Nelson has gone and made it official: mass storage is coming the Xbox 360 at long last. There will be a system update on April 6th, which will allow up to two simultaneous USB flash drives plugged into the system, which will be capable of storing profiles, game saves, demos, "and more." The maximum size supported is 16GB, and even though regular USB hard drives will be supported, they'll be up against the same size cap, and performance will suffer as well. NVIDIA readying GeForce 430, 440, 450 for June
NVIDIA should launch mid-range counterparts to the imminent GeForce GTX 480 in roughly two months' time, according to a new roadmap. Cards based on the new GF104 architecture should ship as early as June and would, as is often the case, scale down the design but keep its feature set. Its fastest variant, the GeForce GTS 450, would have just 256 shader (effect) cores and a 256-bit memory bus versus the 448 cores and 384-bit bus of the GTX 480, but it would theoretically outperform the upper-mid-range Radeon HD 5830 and cost 200 euros ($268).

Google TV may avoid scaring TV providers, cost $299
Google's increasingly rumored Google TV media hub may be consciously designed to avoid frightening cable and satellite providers if a new leak bears fruit. Rather than serve as a complete replacement for a TV set-top box, it would have its own HDMI input and daisy-chain from an existing piece of equipment. Best Buy begins iPad launch-day preparations
Big-box retailer Best Buy has already started preparing for the launch of the iPad, even though its release is eight days away, sources say. Workers are said to be getting briefings on important details, such as the fact that only stores with Apple Shop sections will carry the tablet at first. This means that of the over 1,000 Best Buy outlets in the US, only about 675 will have the iPad at launch. Bestbuy.com will also be missing the tablet, leaving online orders to Apple.

Microsoft's budget 720p HD-5000 LifeCam reviewed (video)
A week after becoming a reality, Microsoft's LifeCam HD-5000 webcam has been given the review treatment by Mobile + Netbook and, while it delivers what looks to be generally excellent quality video, it doesn't score perfectly high marks. For one thing, this cam does not feature onboard hardware encoding, which resulted in 40 percent CPU utilization for this tester when recording at 720p on a Core i5 750 processor -- ouch. Apple seen switching iPad panel orders to avert delays
Apple has switched suppliers for the iPad's capacitive touch panel to keep production running, a rumor from Taiwan argued on Friday. The company has supposedly been relying on TPK Touch Solutions for some of the panels but, frustrated with delays, has moved more orders to Wintek to keep production moving. A previous rumor had blamed Wintek itself, but it's implied by DigiTimes that Wintek has either addressed earlier problems or would be used to balance the workload.

Es ging um einen der wichtigsten DNS-Root-Server, genannt "I Root Server", der von Schweden aus betrieben wird. Dieser Server habe Anfragen nach den betroffenen Sites auf Server in China umgeleitet. Damit gerieten die jeweiligen Anwender hinter die chinesische "Große Firewall". HTC HD2 becomes surprise hit, may have sold 21K in one day
T-Mobile's version of the HTC HD2 may have been a surprise success if multiple reports prove true. One leaked estimate claims that the carrier sold 21,700 HD2s just on Tuesday, a figure which TmoNews said doesn't include over-the-phone sales and possibly online sales as well. Apple in a job listing has signaled its plans to get advanced 3G and 4G. A sport for a Cellular Technology Software Manager would implement mobile data protocols that include the existing UMTS/WCDMA and HSPA already used by the iPhone but also HSPA+ 3G and LTE 4G, standards that have yet to reach any Apple device. Oracle meldet Umsatzsteigerung von 17 Prozent im dritten Quartal
Oracle hat seine Bilanz für das dritte Geschäftsquartal 2010 (bis 28. Februar) vorgelegt. Darin weist das Unternehmen Einnahmen von 6,4 Milliarden Dollar (4,8 Milliarden Euro) aus, 17 Prozent mehr als im Vorjahreszeitraum. Das Ergebnis von Sun Microsystems nicht eingerechnet, liegt das Umsatzwachstum bei sieben Prozent. When we got some hands-on time with the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S, it was painfully apparent that the thing has some serious power under the hood. Opensuse 11.3: Vierter Meilenstein erreicht

Laut Apple wird die überwiegende Mehrheit der über iTunes Connect eingereichten Programme akzeptiert, einige gehen zur Überarbeitung zurück, wieder andere haben gar keine Chance, in den App Store aufgenommen zu werden. Um die Sicherheit von Google Mail weiter zu erhöhen, warnt der Betreiber den Anwender nun vor Missbrauch. Bislang gibt es Air Sync von LG nur auf dem GD880 Mini in England, aber sie haben vor es auszuweiten auf ganz Europa und mehrere Handys. Da macht es Sinn sich das genauer anzusehen. Immer schon hatten wir ein Problem mit Stereo. Es klingt nur wirklich richtig gut, wenn man sich genau in der Mitte der Boxen aufhält. Warum erst jetzt jemand sich dieses Problems annimmt ist verwunderlich, dank diverser Gamehardware die sich in Bewegung abspielt, aber auch immer drängender. An der TU Dresden hat man jetzt SweetSpotter entwickelt, dass sich über die Webcam die genaue Position des Zuhörers angelt und die Lautstärke der Boxen immer perfekt auf den Hörer einpegelt. Die ersten iPad Spiele
Das iPad könnte eine interessante Alternative zu 'Kollegen' wie etwa dem Nintedo DSi XL werden, sofern auch gute Spiele dafür erscheinen. Da das Konzept der Accelerometer-Spiele durch iPhone und iPod touch schon durchweg bekannt ist, kommt es also ganz auf die Entwickler an. Durch einen kleinen war es kurze Zeit möglich, einige der kommenden Apps für das iPad in der Browserübersicht zu begutachten. Erwartungsgemäß waren Spiele wie "Labyrinth 2 HD" und "Flight Control HD" zuerst im Store, aber besonders "Plants vs. Zombies HD" und "Worms HD" überraschten durch ihre schnelle Umsetzung. Updates am Rande: iMovie und Aperture 3
Über Nacht erschienen zwei kleinere Updates für Multimedia-Apps: iMovie 8.0.6 "verbessert die Zuverlässigkeit beim Verwenden von Videos aus Aperture" und Aperture 3.0.2 verbessert erneut die Stabilität des relativ neuen Programms. Beide Updates können, je nach Notwendigkeit für das System, via Softwareaktualisierung geladen werden.

iPad: Apple bereitet US-Versand vor
Apple hat mit der Bearbeitung der iPad-Vorbestellungen in den USA begonnen. Der erste Schritt im Rahmen des Versandprozesses ist gewöhnlich die Belastung der Kreditkarte des Käufers, wie mehrere Leser auf 9 to 5 Mac berichten geschieht dies seit gestern. Interessanterweise werden auch die Karten von Bestellern der erst für Ende April angekündigten 3G-iPads belastet.
Etwa aufkeimende Hoffnungen auf eine verfrühte Zustellung sind nach unserer Einschätzung jedoch unbegründet. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass der Versand direkt von Asien aus stattfindet und die Geräte aufgrund dieser längeren Transportzeit ein paar Tage früher auf den Weg geschickt werden.

Im App Store schlummern versteckt bereits die ersten iPad-Apps. iTunes Vorschau zeigte im Web-Browser kurzzeitig diverse Apps mit dem Kürzel “HD”, ein Hinweis auf die höhere Auflösung des iPad-Displays. Auch den iBooks-Store bereitet Apple bereits für den iPad-Start vor.

240-Millionen-Deal: Samsung stellt iPad-Displays her
Auch Samsung profitiert vom iPad: Das Unternehmen soll drei Millionen iPad-Displays für Apple herstellen. Der Deal ist 240 Millionen US-Dollar (circa 180 Millionen Euro) wert. Später soll Samsung möglicherweise auch iPhone- und iPod-touch-Displays herstellen.

Geohot teases untethered jailbreak that 'will probably work on iPad' (video)
Is it April 1st already or does Geohot actually have something real to show? There's no way to be certain that what the self-promoting master of iPhone (and PS3) hacking is demoing is what he says:
"The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too."

ASUS cramming USB 3.0 into Eee PC line, N Series laptops, loads more
USB 3.0 is slowly but surely popping up on more and more new machines, but finding a rig with SuperSpeed support is still a chore. ASUS is working hard to make sure that finding the good stuff is easy when looking at its wares, and judging by the support it has already shown for the protocol, we actually have reason to believe 'em. Ah, Las Vegas we hardly knew ye! Okay, that's categorically untrue -- CTIA Wireless 2010 actually marks our third official visit to Sin City in as many months, which means it's nothing short of a miracle that we're not lying in a ditch somewhere in the sun-scorched outskirts of town, penniless and near death. Skydda gas introduced two new hardwood cases for the iPhone 3G and 3GS, TradCase and TradDuo. Each of the cases are created from a single block of hardwood and finished with a hand-applied polish. The design wraps around the iPhone to guard against bumps and scratches. It also provides full access to the dock connector, camera, ring switch, and headphone jack. Sony's VAIO CW draining the battery while asleep?
Thinking of picking up a VAIO CW over the weekend? You might want to hold those horses just a bit, at least until Sony (or someone) figures out what exactly is causing the batteries on these to zap themselves while asleep. Based on a raft of complaints -- nine pages strong and growing -- over at Notebook Review, it sounds as if the batteries within the outfit's new CW series (at least those with Core i3 CPUs and the 330M GPU) are fading inexplicably quick while resting, leaving many with next to no juice once they crack open the lid the next morning. 3D hockey nets positive reviews, biggest surprise of the night was a Rangers win
The secret behind MSG's surprise 3D broadcast of last night's Rangers/Islanders hockey game? It came together in a two week turnaround which repurposed equipment laying around between stops at a recent Black Eyed Peas concert and next month's NAB show in Las Vegas. Judging by the reviews it was worth the effort with more than a few indicating an interest in buying 3DTVs to check things out at home next time -- while it aired on Cablevision, all the reports we found were based on the screens located at the arena itself. Bitbop hands-on: is this the Hulu of mobile?
Fox Mobile unveiled its Bitbop venture this week that promises to provide a wealth of TV and movie entertainment from a variety of top-tier studios, and if you can get past the fact that you're actually going to have to pay for this content, it's shaping up to be a pretty promising system when it launches later this year. There's no live programming -- just a database of show episodes and movies that you have your choice of either streaming or downloading for later consumption over 3G or WiFi -- which makes it a little bit like using an on-demand service from your cable company. LG Air Sync hands-on
We got a peek today at the new "3-way" synchronization service from LG that the company is calling Air Sync; it's only available on the GD880 Mini right now in the UK, but they're looking to expand it across Europe and Asia before too long and -- if we're lucky -- North America eventually. So what is it, exactly? Basically, it's a synchronization service for text clipping, photos, videos, contacts, and the like that integrates with your PC using a downloadable client. After it's installed, you get a few new context menu items that let you fast-track content to your phone via the cloud, and we were pretty amazed at just how quickly the transfers consistently happened -- within a few seconds, a dialog pops up on LG's demo Mini notifyin

Spracht Aura EQ (the really real version) hands-on
We got a glimpse at Spracht's new Aura EQ Bluetooth headset back at CES this year, but in reality, we sort of didn't -- what was being shown back then didn't constitute final ID, turns out. The company's back at it here at CTIA showing something closer to what you'll be seeing on store shelves later this half -- though they only had one, and it wasn't in final retail packaging -- so we took a minute to check it out. It's using the same tricky earbud that we saw before, but the front of the unit has changed significantly -- gone are the matte ridges, replaced with a glossy black surface broken up by a few bumps that represent the range of the capacitive volume slider. If "understated" is the look you're going for, the Aura EQ is generally going to do the trick
