The launch of a new game console is a fairly unique event in this industry. It takes some work for a photo app to stand out from the crowd, but I think ProCamera does just that. The US$4.99 app has assembled a very strong feature set that will give you the best chance of getting excellent photos out of your iPhone.
The app includes some anti-shake software, a self-timer, rapid fire shooting, both still and video modes with auto and manual exposure, focus lock, alignment guides, full HD recording in movie mode (1080p @ 30fps), geotagging with an extension for the direction your were facing when you took the picture, and much more.

A quick, easy guide to making links for Apple's new iTunes Affiliate program
Apple recently announced it would be making some major changes to its Apple Affiliate Program. As of August 19, the program is under the Performance Horizon Group (PHG) network, giving affiliates access to more countries and better reporting tools.
Thanks to the update the program will be able to monetize web traffic from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East, Africa, and a large number of countries in Asia.
There's just one hitch.

Facebook Login update does away with mandatory sharing
Facebook's all about sharing -- pictures, life changes, embarrassing details that may get you canned by some future employer. Iowa high school delivers 1,425 MacBook Airs to students
The students at Ames High School in Iowa received a pleasant surprise this school year in the form of 1,425 brand new MacBook Air notebooks, thanks to program the district calls 21st Century Learning. The buy cost a total of $1.4 million, which figures to roughly $980 per computer.
The Ames school board voted on the program back in May, and students are now getting their first hands-on time with the new Apple gear. Each student in 9th through 12th grade has the privilege of checking out a fresh new MacBook for a rather reasonable deposit of just $25. In the event of damage or loss, the student (or more likely, their family) will be charged amounts ranging from $50 up to the full cost of the hardware.

CBS strikes a deal with Verizon, continues war of words with TWC

Find My iPhone app updated, doesn't work for non-devs
Apple today released updates to the Find My iPhone and Find My Friends apps. While Find My iPhone 2.0.3 features a slightly new (and iOS 7-like) design, there's also one small issue -- users are reporting that the update doesn't provide the desired functionality (locating lost Apple devices) unless you just happen to be a developer. So for the time being, if you're not a developer, don't install the update.
Find My Friends 2.1.1 also includes the ever-popular "Bug fixes and stability improvements", but doesn't appear to have gained any flat design elements.

Apple-Panne: Find my iPhone funktioniert derzeit nicht
Offenbar aus Versehen wurde “Find my iPhone” (dt.: Mein iPhone suchen) bereits auf eine Version aktualisiert, die mit iOS 7 veröffentlicht werden sollte. Im Resultat können sich derzeit nur registrierte Entwickler mit dem Service abgeben. Wer derzeit sein iPhone verloren hat und kein registrierter Apple-Entwickler ist, der schaut leider in die Röhre. Apple hat ein Update an der App vorgenommen. An der Oberfläche hat sich zunächst lediglich das App-Icon verändert. Es schaut aus, als würde es in die iOS-7-Benutzeroberfläche passen. Der Rest der Benutzeroberfläche hat sich nicht verändert. Allerdings erhalten Nutzer einer Fehlermeldung, wenn sie versuchen die App zu nutzen:

Ubisoft isn't afraid of mobile gaming, sees a bright future in Wii U and Oculus Rift

On August 24, 2011, Tim Cook assumed the CEO role at Apple. Now, about two years later, Reuters has an interesting profile up detailing Cook's management style and the ways in which Apple has changed and stayed the same under his command.

Vaavud wind meter for iPhone, iPad perfect for students, scientists, surfers
It's always a pleasure to see Kickstarter projects that not only ship on time, but show a brilliant use of the sensors built into every iOS device. In the case of the Vaavud wind meter (US$49.99), the product uses the magnetic field sensor to pick up the fluctuations caused by the rotation of magnets driven by the wind's pressure on two small anemometer cups.
It's a clever design, as this means that the Vaavud contains no electronics at all. No, it's not your imagination. Some of Apple's online services have been down this morning. A quick look at the Apple System Status page shows that the iTunes Store was down for 16.6 percent of all users between 8:57 and 9:42 AM ET, and that continuing outages affecting less than 1 percent of all users are making life difficult: "Users may be unable to use iCloud Documents, Photo Stream, iPhoto Journals, or Backup & Restore. Users may also be unable to send or download attachments in iMessage."

Einleuchtend, aber nicht ganz so offensichtlich: Die Gruppen der Finder-Seitenleiste können durch einfaches «Anklicken und Halten» in ihrer Reihenfolge neu angeordnet werden. Durch diesen Trick lassen sich zum Beispiel die standardmässig zu unterst angebrachten «Geräte» ganz an den Anfang verschieben.

Tipp: Optionen für Bedienungshilfen schnell einblenden
Mittels dem Tastenkürzel ⌘⌥F5 kann jederzeit in OS X schnell auf eine spezielle Optionen-Sammlung der Bedienungshilfen angezeigt werden.
Diese Sammlung enthält die Möglichkeit «Zoomen» oder «VoiceOver» schnell zu aktivieren. Auch kann die Anzeige der Monitorfarben schnell umgedreht (aus Weiss wird Schwarz, Blau wird Orange etc.) und der Kontrast nach oben geschraubt werden. Des Weiteren kann hier die Einfingerbedienung, die Tastaturverzögerung und die Mausbedienung aktiviert werden.
Über die Schaltfläche «Einstellungen…» gelangt man überdies direkt in das ausführliche «Bediengungshilfen»-Panel der Systemeinstellungen.

Former Levi Strauss & Co. executive Enrique Atienza joins Apple's retail team
9to5Mac is reporting that Apple recently poached former Levi Strauss executive Enrique Atienza to join its retail team. Atienza will reportedly join Apple as a director for the company's U.S. retail operations.
A source says that Atienza will be the director of all retail matters for many regions within the West Coast of the United States, and this role is one of the highest ranking retail positions inside of Apple. Several internal and external candidates were considered for the position, but the external Atienza is said to have been the best fit. While Atienza has already signed on with Apple, he is yet to actually begin his management role. He will officially start in October.

Reuters has added to the long list of confirmations and claims that Apple will introduce a gold variant of iPhone with its next device - the iPhone 5S. The report cites supply chain sources in Taiwan for the information. iPad with augmented reality app assists in liver surgery
Reuters is reporting on a unique liver surgery that took place in Germany, where an iPad running an augmented reality app helped doctors plan and conduct the operation.
The app, developed by Fraunhofer MEVIS in Bremen, helps locate structures like tumors and blood vessels and is expected to improve the outcomes in such complicated procedures.

Vine surpasses 40 million users
Vine on Wednesday put out a tweet noting that its video sharing app now boasts over 40 million users, which is an impressive accomplishment considering that the app is just eight months old. Even more impressive is that Vine, once it became available on Android in June of this year, grew from 13 million users to now over 40 million. Recall that Vine, from January through June, was only available for iOS users.

Schweizer Nationalbank kauft Apple-Aktien
Wie aus einem Bericht von cash.ch hervorgeht, hat neben anderen grossen Investoren auch die Schweizerische Nationalbank in den letzten Wochen und Monaten in Apple investiert. Im zweiten Quartal hat die Nationalbank mit 999’325 Aktien ein grösseres Aktienpaket von Apple erworben. Beim aktuellen Aktienkurs von Apple hat dieses neu erworbene Portfolio einen Marktwert von über 500 Millionen US-Dollar.
Aus dem Bericht geht nicht hervor, ob die Nationalbank neu eingestiegen ist oder ob ein bestehendes Portfolio an Apple-Aktien ausgebaut worden ist.

Pläne für Apple Store in Bern angeblich sistiert
Einem Bericht des Blicks zufolge hat Apple die Pläne für einen Apple Store in Bern sistiert. Zuletzt soll der von Apple beauftragte Immobilien-Vermittlern unter anderem mit den Mietern der «Kaiserhauses» an der Berner Marktgasse verhandelt haben, wie mit der Sache vertraute Personen berichten. Apple soll auch bereit gewesen sein, dem Vormieter ein Schlüsselgeld in der Höhe von rund einer Million Franken zu zahlen. Dadurch hätte Apple den Mietvertrag vor dem Ablauf der regulären Mietdauer des Vormieters übernehmen können. Dieses Angebot soll aber abgelehnt worden sein, wie involvierte Personen zu berichten wissen. Auch die Verhandlungen mit anderen Verhandlungspartner in Bern sind gescheitert.

Apple verteilt sechste Beta von OS X Mavericks
Apple hat in der Nacht auf heute eine sechste Vorabversion vom kommenden OS X 10.9 Mavericks an registrierte Entwickler verteilt (Build: 13A558). Entwickler können die neue Beta-Version über das Entwickler-Portal oder über Geräte mit der früheren Beta geladen und installiert werden. Canon's got a handful of incremental updates to detail today, including a selection of PowerShot point-and-shoots. The G16 is the priciest of the bunch, ringing in at $550. A fully realized Starcraft MMO is in the works, but it needs to be Kickstarted first
If you're a dedicated World of Warcraft player, you may have already spent a good deal of time wondering when developer Blizzard would give its StarCraft property the MMO treatment as well. StarCraft Universe is that MMO, but it's not being made by Blizzard; a group called Upheaval Arts is creating the game as a mod for StarCraft II, and if its Kickstarter campaign meets its goal you'll be able to play it on your Mac (or Windows PC) early next year.
StarCraft Universe takes the real-time strategy franchise and gives the player control of a single character, complete with class abilities, questing, leveling, and all the other mechanics MMO players have come to expect. The campaign is roughly half way to its $80,000

Spending on iOS and Google Play Games Now 4X Handheld Console Games
Consumers spend four times as much on games from the App Store and the Google Play Store than they do on games for gaming-optimized handhelds like the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS, according to the newest report from App Annie. The report points out that while Google Play game spending surpassed spending on handheld console games (both physical and digital) during the second quarter of 2013, App Store game spending continues to outpace both categories, bringing in far more revenue. Back in July, App Annie reported that Google Play downloads had surpassed App Store downloads, but App Store revenue remains 2.3 times higher.

Apple Releases OS X Mavericks Developer Preview 6
Apple has seeded the sixth Developer Preview of OS X Mavericks to developers, exactly two weeks after the release of the fifth Developer Preview. With the fifth preview, Apple introduced both the Mac iBooks app and a new beta version of iPhoto. The newest Mavericks preview comes alongside the final release of OS X 10.8.5. OS X Mavericks, which is expected to be released this fall, includes multiple new features like a tabbed Finder, full screen dual monitor capabilities, Safari improvements, and a new Maps app. Developers can receive the update via the Software Update tool in the Mac App Store.

Seven 'Steve Jobs Schools' open in the Netherlands
Throughout the Northern Hemisphere, kids are either preparing to go back to the classrooms or have already started school again. In the Netherlands, seven of what are called "Steve Jobs Schools" opened their doors today.
The schools are focused on using the iPad as the primary focus of all learning and activities. As TUAW reported in July, the schools will replace blackboards, schedules, parent-teacher conferences and more with iPads. PS3 thriller Beyond: Two Souls lets players use the iPhone as a controller
Drawing casual players into an intense sci-fi storyline on the PlayStation 3 isn't easy, but Beyond: Two Souls developer Quantic Dream thinks it may have found a solution. The upcoming thriller will allow players to use their smartphones and tablets to control the characters, adding a decidedly laid back twist for players who might not be comfortable grabbing an actual controller. This rather interesting tidbit was unveiled by the company's founder David Cage at the Gamescom conference, Joystiq reports.
