China drawing up plans to end official game console sales ban, report claims
China's 13-year prohibition on game console sales may soon come to an end, according to a report from the South China Morning Post. The compromise would see the likes of Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft able to manufacture game consoles in Shanghai's new free trade zone -- part of a larger governmental move to open up China's economy to the outside world -- and then market and sell said consoles across mainland China. Of course, the big three would still have to pass the Chinese government's smell test, an approval from "culture-related authorities," according to the report.

Google announces updated Maps app coming to iOS "soon"
Google Maps is already the go-to navigation application for many iOS users, but not being one to rest on its own popularity, Google will be rolling out an enhanced updated of its popular map app with several new features.
The update -- which the company notes will be arriving "soon" for iOS devices -- adds a new location browsing feature that highlights highly-reviewed restaurants and retailers in your area, along with a new review guide courtesy of Zagat. U.S. PC Shipments Continue to Slide in 2Q13 as Apple Lags Overall Market
Research firm Gartner today released its preliminary calculations of PC shipments for the second quarter of 2013, finding that worldwide shipments fell by 11% over the year-ago quarter, the fifth straight quarter of year-over-year declines. According to Gartner's numbers, the U.S. market held up significantly better than the global market, but still declined by 1.4%. Gartner continues to attribute the declines in the PC market to strong growth in tablets.“We are seeing the PC market reduction directly tied to the shrinking installed base of PCs, as inexpensive tablets displace the low-end machines used primarily for consumption in mature and developed markets,” said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner. “In emerging markets, inexpensive tablets have become the first computing device for many people, who at best are deferring the purchase of a PC. This is also accounting for the collapse of the mini notebook market.”

That's not the case with PhotoMagic, a US$0.99 app for the iPhone that goes beyond the mundane color filters we usually see in these apps, and gives you some professional effects to make your images unique.

All Electric Vehicle Rally ends with Tesla S in top spot
There they were, a caravan of nine electric car enthusiasts with a lot of free time on their hands, "tearing" down North America's west coast in a bunch of environmentally conscious vehicles. Tumblr updates app to add trending topics and improved tags
Tumblr has released the first major update to its iOS app since being purchased by Yahoo! this past May. The update brings a few important new features to the mobile version of the blogging platform, including increased interaction with tags. Users can now see trending tags and blogs on Tumblr to see what topics are popular at any given moment.
In addition, tag searching on the app has been changed so when you search a particular topic you will be shown a list of related recommended blogs, and then the feed of tagged posts. If you're looking to find new Tumblr pages to follow, these new features could be very helpful. If not, they don't take up too much space when you're searching.

T-Mobile's LTE network expanding faster than planned, now covers 116 metro areas
When T-Mobile threw the switch on its first LTE markets back in March, the company promised to cover 100 million people by mid year. Four months on, there are 157 million potential customers with access to the un-carrier's still fledgling 4G LTE network. T-Mobile Announces 'Jump' Phone Upgrade Program
At an event in Manhattan today, T-Mobile announced a new phone upgrade program called "Jump," which is designed to allow subscribers to upgrade their phones at regular intervals. With Jump, customers will pay the same subsidized amount that a new customer pays, without the need to wait to qualify for an upgrade. iMessage outage left 30% of users in the dark for 36 minutes
One-third of all iMessage users were unable to send and receive messages for 36 minutes yesterday. Reports of iMessage being down began filtering in around 3:30 PM EST yesterday. Ein Dokument des indischen Telekommunikationsministeriums soll Hinweise auf Abhörmaßnahmen geben, die BlackBerry der indischen Regierung ermöglichen wird. Dropbox kündigt «Dropbox Platform» an
Dropbox hat an der ersten hauseigenen Entwicklerkonferenz das Projekt «Dropbox Platform» vorgestellt. Bei diesem Projekt handelt es sich um eine Sammlung verschiedenster Schnittstellen, welche die Synchronisation von Daten erleichtern sollen.
Die für Entwickler wichtigste API trägt den Namen «Datastore». Datastore gibt den Entwicklern die Möglichkeit, nahezu alle Arten von Daten einer App in der Cloud zu speichern. Damit können künftig die meisten Daten, welche in einer App Verwendung finden, auf den Servern von Dropbox gespeichert werden — dazu gehören zum Beispiel auch Einstellungen. Der Vorteil gegenüber anderen Datenspeichern liegt darin begründet, dass Datastore plattformunabhängig funktionieren soll.
Dank diesem Cloud-Speicher können die Daten aller Geräte auf dem neusten Stand gehalten werden, solange eine Internet-Verbindung besteht. Wenn keine Internet-Verbindung besteht, werden die Daten später synchronisiert.

Die Erfindung soll es ermöglichen, Patienten zwischen 15 und 30 Minuten am Leben zu erhalten, selbst wenn ihre Atmung komplett versagt, wodurch unter anderem auch viele Hirnschäden durch Sauerstoffmangel verhindert werden könnten. iOS 7: Nächstes iPhone mit «Slow Motion Video»?
In der dritten Vorabversion von iOS 7, welche am Montag veröffentlicht worden ist, wurde eine neue Funktion entdeckt, welche die Aufnahme von «Slow Motion Videos» erlaubt. Videos sollen dank der neuen Funktion mit 120 Bildern pro Sekunde aufgenommen werden können. Bislang ist jedoch noch unklar, über welche Auflösung die mit dem iPhone aufgenommenen Slow-Motion-Videos verfügen werden. Weil die Kamera des iPhone 5 lediglich 30 fps (Frames per Second; Bilder pro Sekunde) machen kann, kann diese Funktion nicht für das iPhone 5 vorgesehen worden sein. Die nun entdeckte Funktion kann daher als Hinweis auf die kommende iPhone-Generation aufgefasst werden.

Google Maps bekommt großes Update für Android und iOS

Seit Google Maps mit neuem UI im letzten Dezember auf iOS zurückgekehrt ist, war es nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis auch die Android-Version auf den gleichen Stand gebracht wird, was Google ja auch auf der I/O angekündigt hatte, als die neue Webversion gezeigt wurde. Seit gestern abend ist die neue Version für Android (Google Maps 7) jetzt über Google Play zu haben und um einige Funktionen aufgestockt worden: komplett entrümpeltes Design, deutlich schneller und mit verbesserter Navigation mit aktueller Verkehrslage sowie dynamischer Neuberechnung von Routen.

Bei Geekbench sind jetzt die ersten Benchmarks eines 15-Zoll MacBook Pro mit Haswell-Prozessor aufgetaucht. Das 15-Zoll MacBook Pro mit dem Codenamen AAPLJ45,1 war von MacRumors am Dienstag entdeckt worden, mit 16 GB RAM ausgerüstet und lief mit OS X 10.9 Mavericks (Build 13A2052). Der erzielte Benchmark-Wert war mit 12497 im Bereich der aktuellen MacBook Pros, der Haswell-Chip dürfte wie beim neuen MacBook Air allerdings auch eher für eine längere Akkulaufzeit sorgen. Tumblr on iOS expands search, Android version gets new animations
Tumblr's iOS and Android apps were both updated today, with the former getting a "new discovery experience" and the latter getting a variety of updates (most notably a UI redesign). Benchmarks: MacBook Pro mit Haswell-Prozessoren aufgetaucht
In der Datenbank der Benchmark-Software «Geekbench» ist am gestrigen Tag ein Mac mit der Kennung «AAPLJ45,1» aufgetaucht. Diese Kennung wurde bisher noch von keiner Datenbank erfasst. Der bei diesem Mac verwendete Prozessor legt den Schluss nahe, dass es sich beim neu aufgetauchten Mac um eine künftige Version des 15-Zoll-MacBook-Pro handeln könnte. Ob es sich bei diesem Modell um ein MacBook Pro mit oder ohne Retina Display handelt, ist noch unklar. Es wird jedoch seit längerem darüber spekuliert, dass Apple bei der nächsten MacBook-Generation auf diese Unterscheidung verzichten wird und nur noch MacBook Pro mit Retina Displays anbieten wird.

New Microsoft ad takes another swing at the iPad
Microsoft today unveiled a new commercial which, yet again, takes some shots against Apple's iPad.
In the advertisement below, a Windows 8 device is shown against Apple's iPad which is depicted as a stunted device to the extent that it's not capable of full multitasking.
Something tells me that the commercial above would elicit a hearty laugh from real baseball scouts.

iPhone 5S mit Videos in 120 FPS?
Quellcode in der neuen Beta 3 von iOS 7 soll Hinweise über ein Feature beim kommenden iPhone 5S liefern: Videoaufnahmen mit 120 Bildern pro Sekunde. Zeitlupen-Aufnahmen (Slow-Motion) sollen in einem Feature namens “Mogul” in der dritten Beta von iOS 7 aufgedeckt worden sein. Unklar ist allerdings mit welcher Auflösung entsprechendes Videomaterial mit 120 FPS aufgezeichnet werden würde. Ever since Marissa Mayer took control of the CEO reins over at Yahoo, the company has been on a mission to shed old baggage and become a more nimble and mobile-focused company.

App Store zwischen Apple und Amazon nicht mehr umstritten
Apple wird vor Gericht nicht länger mit Amazon um die Bezeichnung App Store streiten. Ein Richter in den USA hat das angestrebte Verfahren abgelehnt, da Apple zuvor eine Absichtserklärung an Amazon abgegeben hat, die Firma nicht verklagen zu wollen. Steve Jobs has always been an icon of stylish fashion design. Who can forget when he took the stage to introduce the iPod wearing a sensible black turtleneck, a pair of snazzy Levi blue jeans, and of course, some grey New Balance sneakers for extra mobility?
And who can forget how Jobs shocked the fashion world when he wore the exact same outfit while introducing the iPhone and the iPad? Indeed, Jobs' penchant for boldly wearing the same outfit time and time again not only reinvigorated what was then a slumping market for turtlenecks, but also conveyed to the fashion elite that sometimes thinking fashion forward means being fashion repetitive.

Tesla to join the Nasdaq 100 as Oracle departs for the NYSE
