Samsung Galaxy S 4 for Verizon swings through the FCC
We weren't kidding about that influx of FCC filings: the Verizon edition of Samsung's Galaxy S 4, the SCH-i545, has passed through the US regulator's approval right on cue. The device on display ticks all the checkboxes we'd expect, including LTE on both Verizon's main 700MHz band and the carrier's recently acquired AWS frequencies. We also notice HSPA-based 3G, which suggests Big Red's GS4 won't be a

Apple Has No Plans for Dedicated iOS Gaming Controller
Following today's rumor that Apple was quietly polling developers at this week's Game Developers Conference about support for a forthcoming gaming controller for iOS devices, the ever-reliable Jim Dalrymple has quickly quashed that report. As usual, Dalrymple provides no additional comment beyond a simple "Nope", but his selective quoting of the source material suggests that he is denying any current plans for an Apple-branded controller."Long rumoured – and hoped for – GDC 2013 has finally provided confirmation that Apple will release its own dedicated game controller." Piracy-Crippled Game From Hunted Cow Returns to App Store as ‘Battle Dungeon: Risen’ [iOS Blog]

The team behind Battle Dungeon, Hunted Cow, was forced to shut it down after the server load caused technical difficulties that the team did not have the resources to fix. Hunted Cow did not give up on Battle Dungeon and has today released a new version of the game in the App Store. Normally, a trip from Earth to the ISS takes about two days. Thursday, a Soyuz capsule docked with the orbiting laboratory after less than six hours of flight time, setting a record. HP's $169 Slate 7 tablet apparently delayed until June
Maybe it's that $169 price, or maybe it's the inclusion of an honest-to-goodness memory card reader, but we know some of you can't wait to get your mitts on HP's new Slate 7 Android tablet. Back when it was first announced, the company indicated it'd be available by April, but it would seem that plan has changed: the product page on HP's site is now saying the Slate won't arrive until sometime in June. We're not sure why there's a delay (we're asking for comment), but we do know this can't be good news for HP. By June, after all, Google I/O will have come and gone, and the next-gen

Unlikely Rumor Claims June 20 Media Event to Introduce iPhone 5S [iOS Blog]

According to the report, the iPhone 5S will actually launch in July with the rumored lower-cost iPhone following in August. Various analysts and other sources have been indicating that the iPhone 5S could launch as soon as June or July, but MacFan's specific claim of a June 20 media event seems to defy common sense on several levels.

1985 TV show discusses the Apple Macintosh
Ahhh, the early 1980s. Those heady days when the Mac was new, computer user groups were the way that you learned about your Mac (and made copies of software), and the Computer Chronicles was on TV. Today, courtesy of Wired, we get to take a look at a 1985 episode of the classic computer geek show that ran from 1981 until 2002. The episode highlights the Macintosh, "the computer for the rest of us."
In this episode, host Stewart Cheifet and cohost Gary Kildall discuss the first year of the Mac's reign, the 1985 Macworld Expo, and the lack of software for the device at that point. You'll enjoy the haircuts, the suits, the beards and appearances by members of the original Mac team.

MSI Slidebook S20 review: MSI's flagship Windows 8 Ultrabook has a flawed design
If you've been following our reviews of Windows 8 laptops, you know we haven't been too kind to the slider form factor. It's not like we set out to pan these machines, but time and again we've found that the propped-up display ruins the typing experience. Keep that in mind as we begin our review of the Slidebook S20, MSI's flagship Win 8 device, priced at $1,200 in the US. It's a bold move from a company whose bread and butter is not ultraportables, but gaming systems. In fact, the 11.6-inch S20 is the outfit's only high-end Windows 8 Ultrabook. So the company must have quite a bit of confidence in that form

Grizzly robot EV shrugs off difficult terrain, laughs at heavy loads
Like its namesake, Clearpath Robotic's Grizzly is most comfortable in the wild. Sure, this unmanned ATV is perfectly capable of handling paved streets. But the 26-inch wheels and eight-inches of ground clearance are really built for offroad excursions. The 80-horsepower all-electric motor is capable of reaching speeds of 11 mph and of towing loads over 1,300 pounds. In short, this thing is beast. Clearpath suggests the bot would excel at agricultural tasks, but it seems to us that plowing fields would be a waste of Grizzly's skills. Unless, of course, those fields happened to be on another planet. To see this mobile monster in action check out the gallery below and the video

Microsoft allows Windows 8 to run on smaller displays: is a reader-sized Surface on its way?
Until now, Windows 8's official hardware requirements have been understandably ruthless: devices with anything less than 1,366 x 768 pixels need not apply. That policy was changed in a recent newsletter, however, to permit the creation of Windows 8 devices with a resolution of 1,024 x 768 -- likely representing a very different size and shape. Microsoft says the policy switch isn't meant to "encourage partners to regularly use a lower screen resolution", and it warns that such dimensions will be incompatible with Windows 8's split-screen feature, known as "snap". Which raises the question -- why mess with the rules?

Apples Datencenter in Reno teilweise fertiggestellt

For its part, Apple has repeatedly insisted that its policies meet or exceed Chinese law, and any adjustments to warranties in China are a result of local regulations.

When Samsung's Exynos 5 Octa was announced, it was believed to be compatible with 3G networks only.

Bluenote is quite an interesting app, not only taking and securing notes, but providing a task list and a place to lock away passwords and other secret stuff. It performs all of these functions through a simple and minimalist user interface, which unsurprisingly features shades of the color blue.
The first thing that happens once you launch Bluenote is that you're asked for a password. This password is used to encrypt your data, so the app checks the length and complexity of your password
