Facebook proposes changes to its data use policy, shift away from voting during comment periods
There's few issues that stir up more debate about Facebook than privacy and data use, and the social network has today proposed some changes to its policies that affect both. That includes a more public role for its Chief Privacy Officer, Erin Egan, who will both be at the center of a new "Ask the Chief Privacy Officer" feature that's said to be launching in the coming weeks, as well as a new series of live events where she'll address "comments and questions about privacy, safety and security." Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with LTE now available at Verizon, $500 sans contract
Been clamoring for a Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1 with LTE? While you may have known about Sprint's variant which launched 10 days ago, Verizon is now laying claim to the tablet as well. Big Red's model will cost you a cool $500 ($150 than its 7-inch sibling) with "month-to-month service" that'll run you between $30 for 4GB of data to $60 for 10GB. iPad mini (Verizon LTE): what's changed?
Well, what's this, then? Another little tablet from Apple? We surprised ourselves by being quite fond of the first iPad mini, which crossed our desks just a few weeks ago. It strikes the perfect blend of size, performance and capability, but without a proper wireless connection its usability on the road is definitely hampered. Thin and light devices like these were meant to come with you when you leave the house, and you shouldn't leave high-speed data behind. Google brings indoor maps to desktop web browsers
It may not be quite as practical as the mobile version if you find yourself lost in the mall this holiday season, but those looking to plan their shopping route ahead of time can now finally take advantage of Google's indoor maps in their desktop web browser. Briefly: STM MacBook cases, IvySkin iPhone 5 cases launched
STM has launched a new line of Grip cases designed for Apple's MacBook Air and Pro laptops. The cases feature a soft grip finish that makes the device easy to hold, as well as a micro suede lining to help prevent scratches. Three color options, black, royal blue, and pink, are currently available for the 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro model is also in the works and should be launched in the next few months.

AmpKit for Mac released, guitar nerds rejoice
AmpKit has just released a Mac version of its awesome iOS guitar effect and recording tool. Lucky me, I've had a preview version for a little while now, and I've really enjoyed putting it through its paces.
Everything you get in the iOS app is there: pedals, heads, cabs and amazing presets for just about any style of guitar or bass. There's the tuner, meters and metronome, plus the recording capability. It's everything I liked about the iPhone and iPad versions, bigger and with all of the settings more easily accessible on one panel.

Suspect found guilty in 2010 iPad user info leak
Andrew Auernheimer, one of two people charged last year with leaking the email addresses of 114,000 iPad users with AT&T data plans, has been found guilty on two felony counts by a federal court in New Jersey. Auernheimer is facing 10 years for fraud and conspiracy to access a computer without authorization. The other defendant in the case, Daniel Spitler, accepted a plea deal last year.

It used to be that "convertible PC" could mean only one thing: a laptop whose display swiveled around, folding down into tablet mode. Q: I have the same game app on my iPad and my iPhone. If I delete the iPhone version will the iPad one be deleted too? I’m not logged into Game Centre but do use the same Apple ID for both devices. iTunes 11 imminent according to German music distributor
Originally slated for October, the redesigned iTunes 11 saw its launch bumped into November with barely a day to spare. Now, as we near the end of its new release month, there are signs that it might actually arrive as re-promised.

German firm claims iTunes 11 ready 'within the next days'
iTunes 11 is "about to be released within the next days," according to German music distribution service Feiyr. The claim comes from a email memo sent out to the company's clients, asking parties to upload any pictures and galleries they might have for their artists. The new software should let users view galleries for every artist on iTunes where available. Feiyr states that images have to measure at least 1,200 pixels.

Our favorite iPhone photo apps for capturing and sharing the holiday spirit
Here in the U.S. it's a holiday weekend, and we'll be visiting friends and family as we celebrate Thanksgiving.
Of course a holiday gathering means pictures are going to be taken, and I have put together a list of some of my favorite apps for the iPhone that will help you take great photos and share them. Most of the apps I am talking about also run fine on the iPod touch or the iPad, but I expect the great majority of iOS photos are taken with iPhones.

ESPN signs dozen year deal for Division 1 college football playoff games
Wondering who is more excited than college football fans to see that the top division is finally moving to a playoff system? It's ESPN, which just announced it's signed a 12-year deal for the championship games, semifinals, additional bowl games and "related programming." Baby squirrel goes nuts for Apple earphones
Apple's new EarPods are great, but what are we supposed to do with our old, "standard" Apple earphones? Feed them to a squirrel, apparently! As spotted by Tastefully Offensive, YouTube user Shimi777 not only appears to have an adorable baby squirrel running around his/her office, but also a spare pair of earphones for the little fella to nibble on.
While we can't in good conscience advise that you let your own furry friends use a piece of electronics as a chew toy, the video is pretty adorable.

Lovefilm signs deal with DHX Media to stream 2,000 children's TV shows
Lovefilm has already had a streaming video selection for kids, but a new deal could patch up what few content holes are left. Amazon's UK service has signed a pact with DHX Media that gives it access to about 2,000 shows spread across the decades, including well-known back catalog titles like Dennis the Menace and more recent shows like Mona the Vampire. Disney's Bob Iger buys $1 million in Apple stock
On Monday Disney CEO Bob Iger bought $1 million in Apple stock, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The transaction comes just a week after Iger's sale of 1 million shares in Disney, pulling in a net $17.9 million. Iger joined Apple's board of directors in November 2011 as the company tried to fill in the gap left by former CEO Steve Jobs.

News: Report: iTunes 11 release ‘within the next days’
iTunes 11 could be released “within the next days,” according to MacRumors. A post on one of the site’s forums shows an email reportedly sent to record labels by Fieyr, a German music distribution service. The email is asking for picture and gallery submissions of musicians to iTunes. Apple has previously said iTunes 11 would appear by the end of November, after missing its original October launch date.

Comcast Xfinity TV Player update offers downloads for offline viewing
Early in 2011, Comcast made video on-demand streaming to iOS and Android devices a reality, and has also been a pioneer in beaming live cable TV to mobile devices through the AnyPlay service. Now the company has updated its Xfinity TV Player app to support downloads from a number of premium channels for offline viewing.
The app, which is free to subscribers, allows downloads from Showtime, Starz, Encore and MoviePlex. You must have those premium channels in your cable package to be able to download content. Note that this is not the same app as the Xfinity TV app, so be sure you have the correct app installed befo

OS X Mountain Lion Supplemental Update 2.0 fixes keychain errors
Everybody's favorite cat, OS X Mountain Lion, has a new update this morning. But don't be surprised if you don't see it under the Updates tab in the Mac App Store -- OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Supplemental Update 2.0 is "recommended for all Mac systems introduced in 2012."
According to the update notes, the update "addresses an issue with Keychain that can affect 2012 Mac systems." The update file is relatively small, only about 26.65 MB in size.

iPhone 5 seeing 'dramatic' surge in retail availability
iPhone 5 stocks have seen "dramatic improvements in availability," according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. It had been announced that while cellular FaceTime would no longer be restricted to Mobile Share plans, the option would still require a tiered data plan and a device with LTE. By definition that would block the iPhone 4S and/or anyone on a grandfathered unlimited plan; anything earlier than the 4S is unsupported because of Apple's own restrictions in iOS 6.

Following the TSA's lead, the NTSB drops Blackberry for iPhone
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the NTSB may join the growing number of government agencies that plan to ditch the BlackBerry in favor of the iPhone. What are we thankful for on the day before Thanksgiving? How about the glut of great smartphones? Davon inspiriert hat er als Abschlussarbeit an der Design Academy Eindhoven den Mine Kafon entwickelt, der aus leichten und billigen Materialien wie Bambus und Plastik besteht, aber schwer genug ist, um Minen auszulösen. Durch die robuste Konstruktion verliert der Mine Kafon pro Mine nur ein bis zwei Beine und kann so bis zu vier Minen kontrolliert auslösen. Firefox 17 is out of beta, but the biggest story for us Mac users is what it doesn't do, namely support OS X 10.5 Leopard. That's right, Mozilla's browser has moved on, so if you're still running 10.5, this latest version is not for you. But it does add a new "Social API," which Facebook has already used to bring an in-browser Messenger interface, and there are a number of new performance improvements and an "updated Awesome Bar experience" to check out as well.

Apple added two new iPhone 4 TV ads to its YouTube channel last night. The first ad, "Orchestra," features a collection of stringed instruments and showcases the noise cancelling of the iPhone 5. "Even when the world gets noisy, iPhone 5 with noise canceling lets you have a better phone call."

Second of Happiness: Comicaugen zeigen die Zeit auf der Armbanduhr an
Die französische Nachwuchsdesignerin Mathilde Ampe hat ein Armbanduhrkonzept ausgetüftelt, das die Zeit mit einem Comicaugenpaar anzeigt, wobei die linke Pupille für den Stunden- und die rechte Pupille für den Minutenzeiger steht. So gehört zu jeder Uhrzeit ein spezieller Blick, weshalb die Uhr auch sinnigerweise SoH (Second of Happiness) heißt. Das gleiche Prinzip gefiel uns bereits beim Wecker Rotating Iris Eye Clock und drollig dreinblickende Comicaugen kann irgendwie nie genug haben, deshalb: ab in die Produktion mit dem Entwurf.

Two new iPhone ads air, one with Thanksgiving theme
Apple has launched a pair of new TV ads, both showcasing the iPhone 5 in different ways. In "Turkey," the iPhone is used to take pictures from a Thanksgiving dinner, then shared using Shared Photo Streams, a feature in iOS 6. The second, "Orchestra," highlights a hardware feature in the iPhone 5: its pair of microphones that allow for active noise-cancelling. The spot points out that most smartphones don't offer the feature (though most Bluetooth headsets do), saying that the iPhone 5 will let you hear and speak more clearly in noisy environments.

Pünktlich zum US-Feiertag Thanksgiving am kommenden Wochenende hat Apple zwei neue Werbespot fürs iPhone 5 veröffentlicht. Einer bewirbt die iOS-Funktion Fotostream, der andere die Geräusch-Filter-Funktion des Apple-Smartphones.
“Turkey” ist der diesjährige Apple-Thanksgiving-Werbespot: Apple zeigt, wie sich Bilder wie solche eines Thanksgiving-Familienabendessens ganz einfach via Fotostream mit anderen Personen teilen lassen. Der zweite Werbespot “Orchestra” soll wiederum zeigen, dass sich mit einem iPhone 5 dank des zweiten Mikrofons auch dann noch gut telefonieren lässt, wenn viele Umgebungsgeräusche vorhanden sind – beispielsweise ein Streichorchester.

Intel acquires Ziilabs from Creative Technology for $50 million

Hulu Plus now available for Nintendo's Wii U

Analyst: Q1 Mac sales may see decline, iOS devices strong
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is, in what has become a long-standing tradition, once again predicting the imminent arrival of an Apple-branded television set, which he now believes will go on sale in the fall of next year. Lumawake iPhone dock studies sleep cycles, simulates a sunrise
When it comes to iPhone docks, you'd think we'd have seen it all by now, but a new crowd-funded project called Lumawake is doing its best to dismiss that notion. More than just a slick-looking charging accessory, Lumawake's designers claim that it can study your sleep cycle, which you can then browse via a companion app.
The dock performs this trick using an infrared motion sensor located on the front of the device. It keeps a constant eye on your movement and attempts to determine when you're at the peak of your lightest phase of sleep. Then, the dock's built-in LEDs produce a simulated sunrise, gradually growing in brightness until you've woken up. If its attempts at slowly coaxing you up fail, which the designers claim is

Daily iPhone App: Kumo Lumo combines colorful design with original gameplay
Kumo Lumo is one of the most recent games from Chillingo, and it's a good one. The gameplay itself here is hard to describe -- it's an arcade game, maybe? Though there's a little bit of simulation in there, and some puzzle elements in terms of how you learn the game and its characters, too. But the real draw here is the aesthetic: Kumo Lumo is definitely gorgeous, especially on the iPad's bigger screen, and the sounds and textures of this one are not to be missed.

Federal BlackBerry exodus continues: NTSB buying iPhones

EyeSee mannequins used to spy on shoppers, confirms paranoid fears
If you feel like you're being watched when you're shopping, you might be right. Some stores, like the ones owned by Benetton Group SpA, have set up EyeSee mannequins that have a camera embedded into one eye. It then feeds data into facial-recognition software, and would log age, gender and race of the people it sees. Nielsen reports that iPad is most wanted this holiday season
Nielsen has released its annual report on which electronic goodies consumers in various age groups are looking for this Thanksgiving. Once again, Apple products are claiming most of the top of the list.
Kids in the US aged 6-12 are looking for an iPad as the number one item under their holiday tree this year, and while that's followed by Nintendo's new Wii U system, Apple's iPod touch, iPad mini, and the iPhone fill out the rest of the top five spots. Disney to shut down its Online streaming site
Ever heard of Disney Movies Online? Apparently not many have, as Disney announced it'll be shutting down the online movie streaming service at the end of the year. It isn't a shock that a movie streaming site that only offers flicks from one studio and no integration with something like UltraViolet (Disney remains the only major studio avoiding that kludge) wasn't a success. People who were actually using it can use the same redeem code that came bundled with their discs, in iTunes or Windows Media Player. Windows Phone 8 not working with Xbox Video purchases

Samsung to outline 8-core big.LITTLE ARM processor in February

OS X 10.8.2 Supplemental Update 2.0 fixes botched update
Apple has released a new software update, OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Supplemental Update 2.0. The code fixes the issues behind an earlier release, and should let the 2012 Mac mini, 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, and 2012 iMac properly upgrade to v10.8.2. "This update addresses an issue with Keychain that can affect 2012 Mac systems," Apple's notes read.

Mirye Software announces Shade 13, Free Shade 3D for Unity
Publisher Mirye announced today the immediate release of Shade 13, its line of professional 3D modeling, rendering, and animation tools. The new version of Shade adds a number of new tools and features, including new Skin and Bone Joint systems, making it easier to generate realistic characters for animation. Mirye also announced a free version of Shade 3D for Unity on Mac OS X, one based on the full version of Shade, but adding specific features for game developers.

Nahezu wöchentlich werden neue All-In-One-Wasserkühlungen vorgestellt. Dabei handelt es sich aber meist um umgelabelte Produkte, welche wahlweise von Asetek oder CoolIT Systems stammen.
