Tesla reports great Q3 results, expects to be cash flow positive by Q4

Tesla's shares are up 3.9 percent to $30.04 on Monday due to Q3 results that point to better things ahead for the Californian EV maker. The company recently reported revenues of $50 million for the third quarter alone, and is well on track to hit its target of $400 to $440 million by year's end. In a letter to shareholders, Tesla credits production increase for the success, stating that it "successfully transitioned to a mass production car company, growing from manufacturing 5 cars per week at the beginning of the quarter to 100 cars per week by the end." Updated Sparrow app rejected, iOS 6-only version on the way

According to Sparrow developer Dinh Viet Hoa's recent Twitter activity, a newly submitted update to the popular email app has been rejected by Apple, and unless the team submits a new version, the app could be pulled from the App Store entirely. "Apple called to tell me that Sparrow has been rejected," one tweet reads. "Our app will be removed from the appstore if we don't submit a new version soon." Apparently the issue stems from the updated app's implementation of rich text editing on iOS 5 devices. Facebook updates iOS app with features from standalone Messenger and Camera apps

It's not folding all of its apps back into one, but Facebook has now rolled out an updated version of its main iOS app that incorporates some features first seen in its standalone apps. iPhone owner loyalty declines for first time ever

Research firm Strategy Analytics reports that for the first time in its existence, user loyalty has dropped for Apple's iPhone. According to its numbers, 88 percent of US iPhone owners say they're likely to buy another iPhone when they need one, as opposed to the 93 percent that said the same last year. In Western Europe, 75 percent of iPhone owners will stick with the platform, as opposed to 88 percent a year previous. Court dismisses Google's patent lawsuit against Apple

Reuters reports that Google is saying a U.S. court dropped the company's Motorola Mobility patent lawsuit against Apple, which was scheduled to start today. FOSS Patents goes into more detail, saying that the trial was dropped with prejudice. That means the only way Apple can act on the case again is through an appeal and not through refiling. Apple may ditch Intel chips in Macs says Bloomberg

Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is considering a move away from Intel chips for its cherished Mac line of computers. The move would be the third major CPU shift for the brand which has previously relied on Motorola 68000 and Power PC chips. The move away from Intel could also mean a move away from x86 as Apple has been heavily invested in its own ARM-based chip designs in recent years. Bloomberg's sources suggest that Cupertino is actively working on a version of it's tweaked ARM architecture that would run inside Mac PC, in particular its mobile products could stand to benefit from its battery sipping design. Apple paid 2% in taxes on $36.8B of foreign revenue for fiscal 2012

Numbers from Apple's 10-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reveal that the company paid only 1.9 percent in income taxes on $36.8 billion of foreign revenue for the 12-month period ending on Sept. 29.

New Minecraft: Pocket Edition update due out soon

The next version of iOS' Minecraft Pocket Edition has been submitted, according to the official Mojang blog, and it brings another round of updates designed to bring the game in line with its bigger PC and console cousins. In this update, players are set to get access to things like paintings, zombie pigmen (though why you'd want access to those, who knows), the Nether Reactor and Glowstone, and there are a few tweaks to the gameplay as well, including food giving back more health, and hearts getting restored when you sleep in an in-game bed. Judge tosses Apple v. Motorola lawsuit

A US District Court in Wisconsin has thrown out a lawsuit filed by Apple against Google's Motorola division, Reuters reports. The case had actually been expected to go to trial today, and it's not yet known why it was rejected. Reuters says that it first heard word through a Google spokeswoman, who notes that the suit has been dismissed "with prejudice," meaning that Apple's only recourse at this point is an appeal.

Snow Leopard still used on more than a quarter of all Macs

Haven't upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion yet? You're definitely not alone. Judge dismisses Apple lawsuit versus Motorola over standards-based patents

Apple may have just learned a lesson about all-or-nothing gambles. Judge Crabb has dismissed the company's lawsuit against Motorola over fair royalties for standards-based patents after the firm said it would only accept court-dictated payouts to Motorola of less than $1 per iPhone. Instagram rolling out web profiles, sepia toning the world's browsers one account at a time

Instagram is getting ready to open up its collection of filtered images to the web. The photosharing service announced via blog post that it's going to be rolling out web profiles over the next few days, bringing profile photos, bios and shared images to easily navigable URLs at instagram.com/[username]. European LTE deployments might just be getting started, but the European Commission is already trying to head off any bandwidth problems at the pass. The organization has ordered that 120MHz of normally 3G-only spectrum around the 2GHz band has to be reusable for LTE and other 4G networks by June 30th, 2014. Similar to the iPhone 5, customers can use Apple's reservation system to secure an iPad mini at their local store and pick it up the next day. Inventory is updated at 10 PM each night, and customers should prepare to reserve their mini as close to that time as possible. Macht Sinn: iPad mini im Armaturenbrett

Nach mehr als zwei Jahren mit dem iPad ist mir klar: Es ist kein Gerät, für das Platz in meinem Leben ist. Die Erkenntnis kommt schleichend, denn als Early-Adopter mag ich Technik auch als Selbstzweck. Ich trage genau zwei Geräte mit mir herum: Das iPhone und den Kindle. Das iPad ist ein drittes Gerät, welches aber nichts besser als das iPhone kann, sondern die Dinge nur größer darstellt. Das ist schön, aber mir zu wenig. Einen richtigen Rechner brauche ich dennoch. Das iPad mini wird an dieser Situation nichts ändern können, denn ein kleines iPad kann z.B. als Lesegerät nicht mit dem Kindle konkurrieren. Das iPad ist bei mir das fünfte Rad am Wagen. Das iPad ist an sich ein tolles Gerät. Es fühlt sich immer noch wie Zukunft an. Leider erfüllt es meine Erwartungen nicht. Ich mache privat an meinem iMac nicht viel - etwas RSS-Feeds, Mail, Web, iTunes, Blog-Posts schreiben, Tabellenkalkulation, Archvierung per Evernote.
