Next Gen iPhone video call feature priced by O2

We've seen enough Apple iPhone patents with front facing cameras to know Apple has been working on video chatting and calling for awhile.   Add to that the latest 3.2 SDKs have all kinds of video chat buttons floating around. That's what makes this little tidbit from O2 so interesting: They are offering free video calls in their new iPhone plans as you can see in the screenshot below.  Free.

More MacBook Core i5, i7 sightings. This time in New Zealand

This is getting a little silly isn't it? Released in April(?!) 2010, these are believable specs for new Core i5 and i7 MacBook Pros which top out at 640GB HDs or 256GB SSDs.  We especially like getting the Express Card slot back in the 15-inch model. Microsoft shows off single game running on Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox

Guess we don't have to wait until MIX to have all our Windows Phone 7 Series questions answered! Microsoft's Eric Rudder, speaking at TechEd Middle East, showed off a game developed in Visual Studio as a singular project (with 90% shared code) that plays on Windows with a keyboard, a Windows Phone 7 Series prototype device with accelerometer and touch controls, and the Xbox 360 with the Xbox gamepad. WP7 "very easy" for devs, getting new apps by launch

Microsoft on Friday outlined some of its hopes for Windows Phone 7 in an interview (viewable below). The company's Charlie Kindel argues that third-party app development for the Silverlight-, Windows CE- and XNA-based is "very easy" and has already shown off some of the first non-default apps for the platform. Flashlight, level, and weather apps have been shown and, in the case of the level, have direct access to the phone's accelerometer in a way not possible with Windows Mobile 6.

Best Buy slaps a Core i7 logo on a MacBook Pro

This is probably just a case of mistaken identity, but Best Buy currently has the current model MacBook Pro published adorning a Core i7 logo.  The rest of the specs are still in line with the current MacBook Pros including Core 2 Duo processors.  Also, other MacBook Pros, even more expensive ones, still have the oolde Core 2 Duo logo on them.   Getting a little head of ourselves are we?   (How far ahead is the question.) via TUAW

Pioneer-App macht iPhone oder iPod touch zur Fernbedienung

Die neueste Generation der Pioneer VSX-Receiver lässt sich in den Grundfunktionen vom iPod touch oder iPhone aus bedienen. Pioneer hat dazu die kostenlose App iControl AVR im App Store bereitgestellt. Über's heimische Wi-Fi-Netz lassen sich dann beispielsweise die Lautstärke, Balance oder veschiedene Audioeinstellungen regeln. Die iControl AVR-App ist bislang mit drei verschiedenen Pioneer-Receivern kompatibel, den Modellen VSX-1120, VSX-1020 und VSX-920. Allerdings sind diese Geräte noch nicht im Handel verfügbar - wer einen Praxistest machen will, muss sich wohl noch etwas gedulden. Übrigens tragen inzwischen meisten aktuellen A/V-Receiver von Pioneer die Logos "Works with iPhone" und "Made for iPod", akzeptieren die Apple-Geräte also als Musikzuspieler und zeigen zum Teil sogar die Covergrafiken auf ihren Frontdisplays an.

FirstView's $95 Android / Windows CE PC607V tips a craptablet iceberg at CeBIT

Doesn't look too bad for a $95 Android tablet, huh? Well, there's plenty more where that came from. Scattered along the main halls of CeBIT are dozens of Chinese and Taiwanese consumer electronics resellers looking to sell products to new customers, and this year they sure loaded up the suitcases with cheap Android / Windows CE tablets. For the most part all these tablets (or small smartbooks) have ARM 9 or 11 processors and 5 to 7-inch resistive touch displays. ASUS' EeeBox EB1501U packs ION and USB 3.0, need we say more?

Sure NVIDIA's Ion 2 is all the rage right now, but ASUS still has a few tricks left in store for the progenitor nettop GPU. The EeeBox EB1501U sports a typical nettop processor -- in this case, the older Diamondville Intel Atom 330 dual core -- with Ion One, and as an added bonus, there's USB 3.0 support. Also under the hood? A 2.5-inch, 320GB HDD, DVD drive, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. iPhone advertising performance falls behind Windows Mobile

Advertising effectiveness on Windows Mobile smartphones has allegedly nudged slightly ahead of the numbers for Apple products, according to data gathered by the mobile advertising company Smaato. Click-through rates for Windows Mobile achieved a score of 91 on Smaato's index, while the score for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch dropped to 89.

Intel: eight-core and 32nm Xeons on track for March

Intel in an update late Thursday said its next-generation Xeon processors should still launch later this month. The eight-core Nehalem-EX processors don't have official clock speeds but will include 24MB of cache shared between each of the individual cores and will support Hyperthreading. A server with four Xeons could as a result support as many as 64 separate program threads at once, Xeon platform lead Shannon Poulin said.
