SK Telecom utilizing Multi Carrier technology to improve LTE service, roaming

South Korean wireless carrier SK Telecom has officially begun the commercial rollout of its Multi Carrier (MC) network. Canon confirms PowerShot S100 lens error, offers free repair for affected cams

Select PowerShot S100 cameras are encountering a lens error, Canon confirmed on its Product Advisories page. An undisclosed number of the high-end point-and-shoots have had issues with a "disconnected part inside the camera," which causes the optic to malfunction. Google shocker: American web company says web boosted American economy by $500 billion

Who knew that a company which makes a lot of money on the web would be keen to pitch the web as important to the US economy? Google thinks it's as natural as breathing, as it just took significant credit for fueling real-world shopping. About 97 percent of Americans reportedly searched online for a local business -- it's safe to say Google was involved in a lot of those hunts -- and spent an average of nearly $2,000 per person at brick-and-mortar stores last year. Android, iPhone inch ahead in new ComScore numbers

New quarterly data indicates little change in the US cellphone market, according to research firm ComScore. Android devices continue to dominate as a platform, up 0.8 percent to account for 50.9 percent of smartphones. Apple's iPhone, meanwhile, has grown 1.7 percent to claim a 31.9 percent share. Research in Motion has fallen 2 points to 11.4 percent, while Microsoft is up a tenth of a point to 4 percent. Symbian continues to lose remaining ground, dipping 0.4 percent to a 1.1 percent share.

Microsoft has already detailed the Windows 8 upgrade route for those buying a new PC, and it's now finally confirmed what everyone else will be paying when they upgrade their existing PC. Apple faces possible Italian closure over antitrust worries

Apple could face additional fines of up to 300,000 euros (about $377,500) and even temporary closure of its Italian operations if it doesn't start offering free two-year warranties, as required by local law, Reuters reports. Italy's AGCM, which regulates competition and markets, has already fined Apple 900,000 euros over the warranty issue. But months later, it complains that Apple is still failing to comply with demands, and says that the company's Italian division could be shut down for up to 30 days if it doesn't respond with the next 30.

Kobo eReader Touch up for pre-order in Japan, hitting market with 'localized experience' July 19th

Ever since Rakuten revealed its intentions to scoop up Kobo, the e-reader maker was clearly destined to hit the Japanese market. Schlechter Service? Verärgerter Kunde nimmt seelenruhig T-Mobile Shop auseinander

Wir wissen nicht genau, was diesen Kunden soweit getrieben hat, aber scheinbar wurde er nicht gut in einem T-Mobile-Laden behandelt und übt sich daraufhin in stoischer Selbstjustiz. In Manchester am vergangenen Samstag ereignete sich dieser Vorfall, der nun auf YouTube aufgetaucht ist. Der Herr zerlegt einen kompletten Laden und scheut auch nicht vor dem Feuerlöscher zurück. Anfang 2009 startete Apple zusammen mit iWork '09 den iWork.com-Dienst, mit dem Nutzer iWork-Dokumente für Dritte zur Ansicht ins Internet stellen konnten, alles direkt aus den iWork-Apps heraus. Auch konnten andere Nutzer Kommentare einfügen, Dokumente aber nicht direkt bearbeiten. Seit dem Start war der Dienst im Beta-Stadium, eine finale Version veröffentlichte Apple nie. Sehr schnell bekam man auch den Eindruck, dass Apple iWork.com

Avengers Blu Ray release getting companion iOS app

The Avengers, after rocking movie theaters around the country, is headed to a Blu Ray release. Marvel Studios is trying something interesting with the presentation: The company will be releasing an iOS app designed to be used along with the movie itself. The Avengers Initiative: A Marvel Second Screen App will feature new information on the movie, its characters and production crew, and even interactive comics and other video content designed to work with the film itself. The app will be updated with new content every other week at first, and then weekly leading up to the release itself.

Notices warn of upcoming iWork.com shutdown

Apple is sending out email notices reminding people of the impending iWork.com shutdown. The service will go dark on July 31st; in the memo, Apple links users to a support article telling them how to save their documents, and also recommends uploading files to iCloud for access across multiple computers and iOS devices. Once this month's deadline has passed, Apple will delete any documents still left on iWork.com.

iOS claims 65% of mobile web marketshare

NetMarketShare has released its latest report on Internet usage by mobile devices, and not only has iOS remained on top for Internet usage, but Apple's OS has grown its lead up to 65% of total mobile Internet traffic. In just the last month, usage on iOS went up by 3%, and the year-over-year figures line up to almost 15% growth. That's incredible -- it's a sign that not only is Apple selling more and more iOS devices (including those new Retina iPads, which certainly made up a nice chunk of this new Internet browsing), but that users are depending on them more and more for connecting to and interacting with the Internet. "Made in America." For some reason, my parents -- and the parents of many of my peers -- take great pride in seeing that phrase. I've seen people buy inferior products just because the label on the back proclaimed that it was thrown together in one of our 50 great states instead of across some imaginary line in "another country." Im Zuge einer außergerichtlichen Einigung hat Apple umgerechnet 60 Millionen US-Dollar bei einem chinesischen Gericht hinterlegt. Die Rechte an dem Namen dürften somit jetzt auch in China an Apple übergehen. Apple hatte die Rechte am Markennamen “IPAD” bereits im Jahr 2006 von Proview erworben – allerdings hatte der spätere iPad-Hersteller seinerzeit ein Strohmann-Unternehmen vorgeschickt. Apple had claimed that it was the legal owner of the iPad trademark after buying the naming rights from Proview legitimately in 2009 by using a shell company.
