Franklin & Bash We're not sure who decided putting Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer a legal comedy / drama was a good idea but we're kinda glad they did. Jared Franklin & Peter Bash bring a lighter take to what are usually very serious procedurals, a good match for our laid back summer viewing schedule. Season two kicks off this week and if you haven't seen it, just assuming their characters from Saved By the Bell and Road Trip grew up to be lawyers pretty much covers it. Firefox 13 now out with fresh home screen, SPDY support
Mozilla has now released the full version of its Firefox 13 web browser, the first beta version of which came out at the end of April. Those who didn't get the beta will be able to download the latest software on Tuesday. The most prominent changes include a new home and tab screens, along with the newfound compatibility of the Google-backed SPDY protocol.

AT&T announces Samsung Galaxy S III plans: preorders begin June 6th for $200, will be available in red

Google set to gobble up Meebo, plans to expand the social platform to new heights
An interesting twist in the world of social media came today with confirmation that Google has entered into an agreement to purchase Meebo, a company known for its eponymous Meebo Bar. Primarily a platform that's intended to drive consumer engagement with brands via a social medium, Meebo also provides advertisers a less-intrusive way to reach their target audiences. Meebo announced the acquisition on its blog, and hints that its team will work with Google to grow and improve the platform. Microsoft confirms SmartGlass at E3 keynote event
Microsoft today confirmed the existence of SmartGlass at its E3 keynote. There are a lot of iPhoneography apps that try to do everything, but many of them perform their functions poorly. Fotor CameraBag, on the other hand, does a lot of things and does them very well.

Scoot Pte switches aircraft to iPads to drop fuel costs
Singapore-based airline Scoot Pte has switched to iPads for in-flight entertainment in order to save fuel, Bloomberg notes. The company's CEO, Campbell Wilson, claims that the move cut off about 7 percent of the weight from planes received from Scoot's parent company, Singapore Airlines. This is despite increasing seating in the planes by 40 percent.

iPads help airline shed two tons of in-flight entertainment gear
Singapore-based airline Scoot Pte saved itself a lot of money by ripping out the TV-based entertainment systems from its planes and replacing them with iPads. The airliner removed more than two tons of equipment and managed to shave 7 percent off the weight of its planes, says a report in Bloomberg.
The biggest savings, though, will be in fuel costs as the lighter planes consume less jet fuel. Fuel makes up about 35 percent of airline operating costs, so the savings could be significant for this upstart airline. Mai stellte Frau Li fest, dass ihr die Summe aus ihrem Bettversteck geklaut wurde und verständigte daraufhin die Polizei. Siri coming to iPad with iOS 6, sources claim
Apple will finally bring Siri to the iPad with the advent of iOS 6, claims 9to5Mac. The site quotes "trusted sources," who suggest that the change will be one of iOS 6's main selling points. All of the features from the iPhone version of Siri are expected to carry over except for anything specifically phone-related. Judge refuses to bar Steve Jobs quotes from patent trial
Reuters reported on Friday that a judge has rejected Apple's request to have several incendiary quotes about Google's Android platform from former CEO Steve Jobs blocked from being used in the upcoming patent trial between Apple and Google's Motorola Mobility unit.
In the Walter Isaacson biography of Steve Jobs, the late CEO expressed his fiery feelings about the patent litigation: "Our lawsuit is saying, 'Google, you f**king ripped off the iPhone, wholesale ripped us off.' Grand theft. I'm willing to go to thermonuclear war on this."

DirecTV Chairman Michael White: Apple TV "won't obsolete" our tech
We don't know if an updated Apple TV or the hypothetical Apple-branded HDTV will be announced at WWDC (or ever), but just the thought of such a possibility has the big names in the cable and satellite TV business pondering a future with Apple as a competitor. DirecTV Chairman Michael White doesn't think that traditional TV content delivery providers have much to worry about, per GigaOM.
Speaking at an investor's conference in New York last week, White said that he doubts that a new Apple TV OS would drive current satellite and cable subscribers to purchase another set-top box from Apple. He thinks that most people would keep the box they already have.

Talk about off-label use: I own neither an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3. These are the normal devices associated with Elgato's Game Capture HD box. Retailing for US$200, the box lets you hook up an HDMI video source to record your interactions with your favorite gaming system. For me, I wanted to see how well it worked with Apple TV and iPad.

Sony just announced US availability for its T Series Ultrabook, and though we'll only get the T13 and not the T11 stateside, this version will ship with third-gen Intel CPUs rather than the European model's Sandy Bridge processors. ZeroN: Schwerelose Kugel als Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstelle
Die Interaktion von Mensch und Maschine noch weiter voranzutreiben ist das Forschungsgebiet von Jinha Lee von der Tangible Media Group am MIT Media Lab. Gemeinsam mit Rehmi Post und Hiroshi Ishii entwickelte er ZeroN. Ein Interface, das auf Basis einer frei schwebenden Metallkugel funktioniert. Natürlich sieht ein schwereloser Ball schon äußerst beeindruckend aus. Aber es ist weitaus mehr als nur Augenwischerei. Die Kugel ist sowohl Eingabe- wie Ausgabegerät. Corning unveils slim, flexible Willow Glass (video)
That is not plastic in the image above, it's glass. In particular its a sheet of Corning's new 100-micron-thick Willow Glass, a new ultra-thin and flexible substrate for LCDs and OLEDs. The extreme thinness of the glass should lead to lighter, svelter devices, but it also means that shape is no longer a barrier for design. In fact, Corning expects Willow Glass will eventually lead substrates to be manufactured "roll-to-roll" instead of "sheet-to-sheet" -- similar to how newspapers are printed. Though it was far from being a slow week for real news in the Apple sphere, the fact that WWDC is just over the horizon means the rumor scene has kicked into high gear. So many rumors came out this week that I've broken them down by product category this time. The biggest star this week was the supposed next-gen iPhone, but the mythical Apple HDTV wasn't far behind. Unlike some of the other models on offer, the high-end Z series didn't get a redesign, but Sony at least took the opportunity to refresh it with new Ivy Bridge processors. Intel claims to have had a breakthrough in chassis design that might point prices of the slim line laptops in a southerly direction. Using existing plastics, and some internal rearrangement aka "structural reduction analysis," the chip maker says it's found a way to make housings that are of equal strength and quality as existing ones. SkyDrive für iOS nun mit Bilder- und Video-Upload

Vodafone's recharging truck returns for the 2012 festival season, wants to scan your hand
A new and improved version of Vodafone's massively mobile multiple handset recharger is being rolled out just in time for thousands of festival-goers to all hold up their phones to record the same Black Keys performance. Die Entwicklung des neuen iPhones dauert sicherlich schon eine ganze Weile an. Da bisher völlig unklar war, wie das ETSI entscheiden wird, konnte sich Apple darauf noch gar nicht einstellen. Und eine Änderung des Designs bzw. Innenlebens des iPhones kurz vor Produktionsbeginn (geht man mal vom Verkaufsstart Herbst aus) ist unwahrscheinlich, unabhängig vom Standard der SIM außerhalb Europas.

Eine kleinere SIM hat enorme Auswirkungen auf die Gesamtgestaltung. Die Entwicklung des neuen iPhones ist sicherlich schon viel zu weit fortgeschritten, als dass man daran noch etwas ändern könnte. Wahrscheinlich ist es sogar schon in Teilen in Produktion, ansonsten könnte es dieses Jahr wohl nicht mehr rauskommen.

Nintendo teases Wii U Pro Controller
