Apple plans second North Carolina data center, avoids the 'Deep River Blues'

Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina if you're an Apple data center. The Winston-Salem Journal reports that the folks in Cupertino have filed plans with Catawba County officials for a second 21,000 square foot "tactical" data center that will house 11 rooms and carry a $1.9 million price tag. Mechanical permits outline the need for 22 air conditioners and 14 humidifiers alongside fans and heaters for the building that will nestle up to the existing construction. AMD reports Q2 earnings: continues to see revenues drop, $37 million net income

Well, things are looking slightly better for AMD this quarter. While revenues continued to decline the company actually posted a profit of $37 million, a stark contrast to $590 million net loss from last quarter. Still, with revenues down 11 percent sequentially and 10 percent year-over-year to just $1.41 billion the company isn't meeting expectations. Microsoft announces record Q4, $18.06 billion in revenue

Microsoft has just dropped their Q4 2012 earnings report and things are looking pretty darn good depending on your angle. The company reported a record fourth quarter revenue of $18.06 billion, but did suffer a net loss over the last three months of $492 million. While the net loss was in stark contrast the net profit of $5.87 billion from the same time last year, Microsoft is still optimistic heading towards the launch of Windows 8 and its sibling mobile platform. And who can blame them, the new OS is sure to drive plenty of consumers to their local Best Buy with fists full of cash. Samsung loses more motions in Galaxy Tab injunction appeal

Samsung has lost two more motions in its attempt to undo a preliminary injunction of US Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales. FOSS Patents reports that the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has blocked one motion to stay the injunction for the duration of the appeal proceedings, and another hoping to expedite the process. In effect, the motions mean that Samsung won't have another chance to overturn the injunction until sometime after July 30th, when Apple and Samsung are set to go to trial.

Vyclone app for iPhone makes "social filmmaking" possible

A hallmark of modern filmmaking is the use of multiple cameras to capture various viewpoints, then editing those viewpoints to create a seamless flow of images and sound. U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has penned an open letter the the Department of Justice, asking it to drop its lawsuit against Apple and major publishers. Apple is indeed working on a second datacenter in Maiden, North Carolina, county permits show. Filings describe the building as a "tactical" datacenter with 11 rooms, measuring 21,030 square feet. Verizon: iPhone sales less than Android, more than LTE

Verizon Wireless has revealed more information regarding its phone sales for the second quarter. In an investor conference call, Chief financial officer Fran Shammo noted that 2.7 million iPhones were sold over the three-month span, falling below the 2.9 million Android-based smartphone shipments but maintaining an edge over the 2.5 million 4G LTE-enabled devices. The French Supreme Court has handed down a ruling that Google must censor terms such as "torrent," "RapidShare," and other phrases that could be related to illegal file sharing. A number of US suppliers are already seeing increased business from Apple, according to sources for AppleInsider. Ein Hacker sorgte letzte Woche für Aufsehen: Mit Hilfe eines Proxy-Servers machte er es für iOS-Benutzer möglich, In-App-Einkäufe zu tätigen, ohne für die zusätzlichen Inhalte zu bezahlen. Im anschließenden Katz-und-Maus-Spiel zwischen dem Hacker und Apple setzt Apple nun auf die UDID der einzelnen iOS-Geräte. Um den In-App-Käufe-Hack zu bekämpfen begann Apple zunächst, die IP-Adresse des Servers zu blockieren, den der Hacker Alexey V. Borodin einsetzte. UK judge to make Apple acknowledge Samsung didn't copy Apple

In an unusual ruling, British Judge Colin Birss is forcing Apple to announce publicly that Samsung did not copy Apple with its Galaxy Tab tablet, says a report in Bloomberg. Beim Pixel zählen mit einem danebengelegten Lineal wird deutlich, dass das Ur-iPad ziemlich genau 12 Zoll groß war, also ein knapp 40 Prozent größeres Display hatte. Developer Daniel Jalkut notes that the latest requirements for the Mac App Store are asking for an app icon that's at least 1024x1024 pixels, which is extraordinarily huge.
