Spiele-App Rage für 31,99 Euro im Mac App Store
Das Actionspiel Rage konnten bis dato nur Konsolenspieler und Windows-Nutzer genießen. Mit der Portierung des Top-Titels auf dem Mac, den der Publisher id Software mithilfe von Aspyr Media realisierte, bekommen nun auch Apple-Fans die Möglichkeit zum Spielen. Die Spiele-App bringt ein regelrechtes Endzeit-Flair auf den Bildschirm. Nachdem die Erde durch einen Kometeneinschlag verwüstet wurde, wacht Euer Charakter auf dem tristen Planeten auf und kämpft sich zu Fuß oder mithilfe von Vehikeln durch die Landschaft. Cali pension fund wants Apple to allow majority board voting
California's public sector retirement system, Calpers, is hoping to push Apple to give it and other shareholders more control over the company's board of directors. The organization told the FT [reg. required] that it wanted a "governance upgrade" where board members are elected or rejected directly based on majority votes. At present, votes can't actively oppose a member, and only one vote is needed in favor to keep a board member in place if no one is contesting the seat.

Apple engagiert Xbox-Marketing-Manager

Study: iOS apps crash more than Android apps do
Mobile OS crash analysis firm Crittercism (Really? Who's naming this stuff?) has posted the chart above, which shows that as a percentage of crashes overall, the latest version of iOS claims the highest total. In fact, many versions of iOS show a large percentage of crashes, and clearly iOS overall seems more prone to have an app crash rather than Android. Of course, there are quite a few qualifiers here. Micron appoints Mark Durcan as new CEO
In the wake of last week's fatal plane crash that took the life of its CEO, Micron Technology has appointed a successor, Mark Durcan. The former CTO has been with the company since 1984, and has -- per company bylaws -- been serving as interim chief since February 3rd. Robert Switz, the company's previous Board Director, will assume the duties of Board Chairman and Mark Adams, formerly the VP of Worldwide Sales, has been named as the company's President. Brook Drumm hat die Teile seines 3D-Druckers Printrbot als Open Hardware bei Thingiverse online gestellt. Das Teil hatte im Dezember satte 830.000 Dollar auf Kickstarter eingespielt und lässt sich bei einer ziemlich guten Druckqualität auch verhältnismässig einfach vergrößern. Der Printrbot kostet als Bausatz knapp 500 Dollar (zusammengebaut 750) und ist damit deutlich billiger als die meisten anderen 3D-Drucker. Eigentlich sollten Updates ein Betriebssystem ja verbessern, aber das ist bei den letzten OS X-Updates nicht unbedingt der Fall. Viele User berichten von unterschiedlich starken Problemen mit dem letzten OS X-Update 10.7.3, das Apps zum Abstürzen bringt und für diverse Darstellungsfehler ("CUI?") sorgte. Inzwischen stellt Apple auch über die Softwareaktualisierung nur noch das Combo-Update für Lion bereit, das keine Probleme macht. Sony slips out Bridge for Mac for Xperia smartphones
Sony has quietly released Bridge for Mac, a software utility that makes it easier for Mac users to to sync its Xperia line of smartphones. Mac users have long been overlooked by Sony, with its syncing software for smartphones and other devices previously limited to Windows machines only. AT&T drops bar for throttling unlimited data to 2GB for some
At least some anecdotes from AT&T subscribers have shown that its throttling practices for unlimited data plan users have started to take effect at low levels. John Cozen claimed to have seen the throttling take effect with as little as 2.1GB of data used in the month, or just over the pre-increase 2GB tiered plan's cap. He escalated complaints about the issue to levels where he could confirm the throttling wasn't a mistake.

AMD won't rule out ARM in the future, wants modular design
AMD in conversations at the end of the week wouldn't discount the possibility of making ARM-based processors. When pressed by Wired, CTO and former Apple executive Mark Papermaster made the unusual non-denial that "the answer is not no." The company's long-term plans were aiming for a modular chip design that could drop in ARM or another architecture without losing Radeon graphics or other AMD-specific touches.
