AT&T launches VoteHub, brings the presidential election to your pocket

Need yet another constant stream of election information? AT&T's joined up with the Pew Center to bring election coverage to your pocket, courtesy of VoteHub. The new app is a "nonpartisan clearinghouse for essential voter information," including candidate info, AP press coverage, election results and the requisite social sharing through sites like Twitter, Facebook and Google+. Foxconn iPhone factory goes on strike, citing overwork

According to a new report by New York based China Labor Watch, approximately 3,000 workers at the Foxconn Zhengzhou factory have gone on strike off of the onsite quality control line, paralyzing multiple iPhone 5 production lines for the entire day. A combination of tightening quality control requirements coupled with mandatory shifts during the holiday reportedly led to violence and the strike. The strike echoes an event from last month, where 2,000 workers at a different factory staged a walkout and strike, shutting down production for a day.

Apple acknowledges lens flares occur with iPhone 5 camera

Almost as soon as the iPhone 5 had ended up in the hands of eager Apple customers, reports began to surface of an "issue" with the camera built into the device. One of the unsung features of Apple's iOS 6 Maps app is that it uses vector-based -- rather than raster-based -- maps that chew up less bandwidth and can be stored in a much smaller amount of memory. New Logitech Mac-compatible wireless webcam appears online

While it's not listed anywhere on the Logitech website yet, the sharp-eyed folks at Electronista noticed a new "Wireless Webcam for Mac" listed by camera and tech retailer B&H Photo. There's not a lot of detail about the device, other than the fact that it's priced at US$179.99 and looks pretty cool. Dish gives up effort to turn Blockbuster into a Netflix competitor

It's been an especially bumpy road for the Blockbuster brand these past few years, and things just got a bit more rough. In an interview with Bloomberg, Dish Network founder and CEO Charlie Ergen confirmed that the company is abandoning its current efforts to challenge Netflix with Blockbuster, saying that it no longer plans to use the brand as a video streaming or DVD-by-mail service in the US. Ergen did say that Dish had other plans for Blockbuster, but he didn't elaborate on what those may be. iOS 6 Maps alllows for wider range in offline navigation

The iOS 6 version of Maps is more useful than its predecessor in terms of offline navigation, AppleInsider observes. Because the new app uses vector data instead of bitmaps, it consumes roughly 80 percent less space, and a greater area appears to be stored in memory when in Airplane Mode or outside of cellular or Wi-Fi service. iOS 5 Maps, based on Google content, would typically only save map tiles within a 10-mile radius at a couple of zoom levels.

Das verdoppelt die Ergebnisse aus dem Vergleichsquartal im letzten Jahr noch mal und ist im Vergleich zum zweiten Quartal mit ca. 4,5 Millarden ein massiver Anstieg. Das Weihnachtsquartal liegt obendrein noch vor uns. Bei Reuters wird geschätzt, dass die Galaxy-Serie einen Löwenanteil von zwei Dritteln ausmacht mit allein 18-20 Millionen Galaxy SIII und Smartphones insgesamt von ca. 58 Millionen.

Coming quickly after an update to its Maschine line, Native Instruments has announced a new "2+2" control mixer, the Traktor Kontrol Z2. Passbook in iOS 6 continues to gain companies, features

Since its debut just two weeks ago, Apple's Passbook has begun to emerge from its sleeper status as the part of iOS 6 most users were befuddled by. With new companies getting on the bandwagon seemingly each day, it may not be long before nearly every iOS 6 user has a chance to understand better what exactly Passbook is and what it will do for them. It certainly has the potential to be one of those "how did I live before this?" type apps. In addition to Starbucks and quite a few airlines, a diverse group of businesses have recently added support.

MythTV updated to 0.26, hints at 'more exciting' 0.27 coming next year

After releasing one long-awaited update back in April, venerable media PC platform MythTV has quickly pushed out another update to version 0.26. The changelog isn't particularly long this time around, though it does claim HTTP Live Streaming playback and recording, some clock tweaks and the requisite performance improvements. With that wrapped, the team has already shifted its focus to the next version, 0.27, which it says should be a more exciting release. 'Supplemental' patch issued for 10.7.5, 10.8.2, printers

Apple on Thursday issued what it calls "supplemental updates" patches for different bugs in OS X 10.7.5 and 10.8.2 (each the latest version of their respective OS versions), along with an update for drivers for various lines of printers, presumably to add or restore AirPrint compatibility for iOS 6 devices, Mountain Lion compatibility and more to a long list of existing models as well as any new. Why Apple chose to call the OS patches "Supplemental Updates" rather than issue an incremental update is unexplained, but each of the two updates is version-specific.

Samsung's Galaxy Express got a bit of a short shrift last month, revealed alongside a slew of other Samsung AT&T 4G LTE phones and not getting its own day in the sun. Oracle files appeal of precedent-setting Java API trial
