Samsung Galaxy Note II to arrive at US Cellular on Friday, pre-orders ship tomorrow
US Cellular has been offering the Samsung Galaxy Note II on pre-order for over a month now, but it just sent out an email clarifying that the device will be stocked on retail and virtual shelves beginning this Friday, October 26th. This falls in line with the "late October" timeframe we were promised; pre-orders, by the way, will also begin shipping tomorrow. EU attestiert Microsoft Fehlverhalten im Browser-Streit

First Looks: X-Doria Venue for iPhone 5
X-Doria's Venue for iPhone 5 ($35) combines aspects of shell-style cases with the hybrid rubber/plastic designs we generally prefer. Available in six color combinations, the case's exterior is mostly glossy plastic, with rubber lining the inside and sticking through the back. Phil Schiller addresses criticism over iPad mini price
Apple marketing executive Phil Schiller has defended criticism over the iPad mini's $329 price tag, which exceeded earlier estimates from many analysts. The company was not expected to match the $199 price of Google's Nexus 7 or Amazon's Kindle Fire HD, but the $129 premium has led some analysts to question the Mini's ability to have a significant impact on sales from its Android-based rivals.

Borrowing its title from the iPad pouch of the same name, Illuzion ($33) is Spigen SGP's new faux leather wallet case for iPhone 5. atebits releases Letterpress for iPhone
With the release of Letterpress today for the iPhone and iPad, dictionary divers will have yet another word game where they can show off their skills. Letterpress is the new project from atebits, Loren (Tweetie) Brichter's development shop.
The game takes place on a seemingly randomly generated series of tiles, where two players -- connected via Game Center only -- take turns coming up with words using only the letters provided.
The game adds a good bit of strategy by allowing players to "protect" a tile by using it as well as all of the letters bordering it. The opposing player is

Kensington's first case for Apple's newest handheld is the Protective Cover & Stand for iPad mini ($35), a slim hard-shell case with a velvet interior and a choice of three color combinations. Phil Schiller discusses the iPad mini's price point
Apple used its October event to unveil its new US$329 iPad mini. The 7.9-inch tablet was criticized by analysts who scoffed at the device's price tag, which is $130 more than the Kindle Fire HD and $90 than the Nexus 7. Phil Schiller spoke to Reuters about this sticker shock and said that customers won't mind paying a little extra for an iPad because it's a premium device.

Corning Gorilla Glass now used in over 1 billion devices worldwide
Gorilla Glass is the ultra-hard, scratch-resistant material that debuted on the original iPhone. When that seminal smartphone was in development, Apple CEO Steve Jobs talked Corning CEO Wendell Weeks into starting mass production of Gorilla Glass. Accessory maker iLuv has announced a line of charging accessories for the iPhone 5, new iPods and iPad mini with the new Lightning connector. Five new products, expected to be available in January, will offer charge and sync cables, dual-USB and very compact USB car and home chargers for users with Lightning-equipped products. Canon 5D Mk III firmware to add HDMI video, AF changes
Canon has confirmed it will be releasing a new firmware for its EOS 5D Mark III in the future. The biggest update for the camera will be in allowing videographers to record uncompressed high-definition video from the HDMI port to an external recording device. The uncompressed YcbCr 4:2:2, 8-bit output will allow users to edit the resulting footage with as minimal degredation as possible.

Harman Kardon BTA 10 brings wireless sound to receivers
Harman Kardon just outed its BTA 10 Bluetooth adapter that promises to let users wirelessly stream music from their portable devices to nearly any home theater receiver or sound dock. It can pair with up to eight Bluetooth devices and is just under two by two inches in size. A blue LED light will flash when the BTA 10 is looking for a Bluetooth connection and remains lit once it's established.

Nachdem wir bereits gestern vor dem Apple-Event über die neuen Lightning-Adapter berichtet hatten, fanden diese auch wenig später auf der Bühne von Phil Schiller Erwähnung. Die ersten beiden Adapter sind mittlerweile auch in Apples Online-Store angekommen.

Hands-On: Nikon 1 V2 (Video)
Nachdem Nikon vor kurzem die J2 vorgestellt hat, die im Vergleich mit dem Vorjahresmodell eher ein Upgrade war haben sie jetzt auch die 1 V2 am Start, die sich deutlicher von ihrer Vorgängerin unterscheidet. Von 10 Megapixeln ging es mit dem CMOS-Sensor hoch auf 14, der neue Bildprozessor EXPEED 3A sorgt für noch schnellere Serienfotos (15 Bilder/s mit kontinuierlichem Autofokus und bis zu 60 Bilder/s mit feststehendem Fokus) und 135 Fokusmessfelder. Außerdem hat der Body auf der rechten Seite einen Griff bekommen, wie es ihn ähnlich auch an der NEX 7 gibt und das Modus-Wahlrad ist auf die Oberseite gewandert, was deutlich praktischer sein dürfte. Skype 6.0 for Mac available with Facebook, Microsoft logins
Are you ready for a new version of Skype for Mac? Skype 6.0 showed up today with a few new changes, including the ability to sign in with either Facebook or Microsoft login credentials.
If you've never used Skype before, there's now no need to set up a separate Skype account -- you can use your Facebook account to log in. Mac users who have come over from the dark side but still have a Microsoft login can use that to get into Skype.
Other changes to Skype 6.0 for Mac include the ability to have open chats in multiple windows and support for the growing number of Macs with Retina displays.

Hummingbird Kit: Arduino für Kinder

Mit dem Roboter und Maschinen basteln kann man nicht früh genug anfangen: BirdBrain Technologies haben jetzt ihr Hummingbird Kit vorgestellt, mit dem auch die Jüngsten loslegen können, ein "pre-Arduino", wie Robot-Designer Tom Lauwers es nennt. Im Zentrum steht ein eigtener Controller, mit dem sich diverse Sensoren, Motoren und LEDs steuern lassen. Das Kit kostet insgesamt 199 Euro, mit dabei sind LEDs, zwei Vibrationsmotoren, vier Servos und Licht-, Temperatur-, Entfernungs- und Audiosensoren. Apple Store now selling Lightning to HDMI and VGA adapters for $49 each
As announced during yesterday's Apple product announcement event, the company is now selling Lightning to HDMI and VGA adapters in the online Apple Store.
The Lightning Digital AV Adapter (seen above) sells for US$49 and features an HDMI port as well as what appears to be a Lightning pass-through. It's compatible with all Lightning devices; the iPad mini, the fourth-generation iPad, the iPhone 5, and the fifth-generation iPod touch.

VoIP and video calling program Skype is now in version 6 for the PC and Mac. Significant changes include Facebook chat integration and Retina Display support for OS X computers that support it. Wall Street analysts weigh in on the iPad mini
Although Apple's stock fell sharply after the event yesterday -- it closed at around US$613 after opening the day at about $631 a share -- most Wall Street analysts are saying that the iPad mini will be a hit with consumers.
The $329 starting price of the iPad mini was seen by Chris Whitmore of Deutsche Bank as a "modest disappointment," although he said that the features of the mini more than make up for the higher-than-expected price point. Many analysts, including Whitmore, believed Apple would offer a base model with only 8 GB of storage and were surprised by the starting capacity of 16 GB.

Dutch court finds Samsung does not infringe on Apple multitouch patent
Apple faced a legal setback in the Netherlands when a Dutch court ruled that Samsung's tablets and smartphones do not infringe on Apple's multitouch patents. This decision reaffirms an earlier, preliminary non-infringement ruling in a case that was heard in August of 2011. The Dutch legal decision also mirrors those made in Germany and the UK. In the UK case against HTC, the judge found that there was no infringement and ruled that the multitouch patent was invalid.

Book retailer Barnes & Noble this morning revealed that 63 of its stores have been victims of PIN pad tampering, following an internal investigation of "every PIN pad in every store" (just under 700 locations). Apple updates Final Cut Pro X
Though not announced during its big October event, Apple also included Final Cut Pro X in its list of apps that the company updated yesterday. AT&T activated 4.7 M iPhones in Q3 2012, gains iPhone subscribers
AT&T announced its quarterly earnings on Wednesday and confirmed that it activated 4.7 million iPhones in the third quarter of 2012. Eighteen percent of these iPhone owners are new to the company. This figure closely matches the 4.8 M iPhones that the carrier activated in the same quarter last year and is up from the 3.7 M it activated in Q2 2012. In the quarter, the carrier sold a total of 6.1 million smartphones and reported a 6.6 percent increase in wireless revenues.

Laut TechRadar wird Google das Nexus 7 mit 32 GB noch vor dem 31. Oktober ausliefern. Das haben sie auf Anfrage beim britischen Händler Very herausgefunden, der das Nexus 7 in dieser Konfiguration schon listet. "Falls das Produkt auf Lager ist, sollten sie es am 31. Oktober bekommen, wenn nicht schon früher." Nach längerem Bohren und der Nachfrage, ob es denn auf Lager sei: "Es sollte auf Lager sein." AT&T sells 4.7 million iPhones and 1.4 million smartphones to make a $3.6 billion profit in Q3 2012
AT&T's third quarter figures have shown that it's certainly got a handle on this "selling smartphones" business. In the last three months, it's managed to ship 6.1 million smartphones, of which 4.1 million were iPhones, which helped the company to maintain a turnover of $31.5 billion, just $0.1 billion below the previous quarter. Mit der gestrigen Vorstellung des iPad 4 dürfte Apple besonders frische Besitzer des iPad 3 geärgert haben. Wer sein iPad 3 jedoch erst in den vergangenen 30 Tagen erworben hat, könnte Glück haben, denn einige Apple Stores erlauben den Umtausch gegen das neue iPad.

Wer das iPad mini und das bereits bekannte iPad vergleicht, muss neben den offensichtlichen Größenunterschieden feststellen, dass speziell die Rahmen beim iPad mini deutlich dünner ist. Dies könnte zur ungewollten Berührung des Touchscreens etwa mit dem Daumen führen. Mit iOS 6 wurde diese Erkennung jedoch verbessert.
Dadurch, dass der Rahmen deutlich näher am Display liegt, kann es schnell passieren, dass man ungewollt beim Umgreifen des Geräts einen der Finger auf dem Touchscreen ablegt. Daily iPhone App: Eyelord has your fill of squishy orb matching
Eyelord is the latest title from the folks behind Secret Exit, whose game Zen Bound and its sequel you probably know well. Zen Bound was a well-produced game with a really excellent design, and Eyelord follows that trend, with a simple mechanic held up by triple A quality production.
The game is essentially like PopCap's Zuma, where you throw little colored balls into a moving line and try to match them up and clear them out before they can reach the center of the screen. There are two big differences, however. One of those differences is that instead of matching balls, you're actually matching eyeballs, and the game's wild heavy metal aesthetic lines up perfectly with the gooey grossness of sending eyeballs flying around the screen.

LG records a 'solid' $138.57 million net profit for Q3, keeps the positive trend going
LG Electronics has reported its earnings for Q3 2012, notching its third straight quarter of positive income with a net profit of 157 billion won ($138.57 million) and "solid" performances from its home theater and mobile businesses. Sprint finally gets the iPad... and a mini, too!
Both the iPad mini and the new 4th generation iPad are headed to Sprint in the coming weeks. The wireless carrier will offer the new tablets with various data plans to take advantage of its small-but-growing 4G LTE network. We get it, some of you are feeling a little burned by the iPad update today. It was only about eight months ago that Apple's slate was last refreshed with the stunning Retina display, now its gotten a subtle, but hardly negligible spec bump. At least a few Apple customers miffed at the Cupertino company's introduction of a refreshed iPad today will be able to exchange their now not-quite-latest-and-greatest devices for the new-New iPad. The San Francisco Apple Store on Stockton Street has extended the return policy for recently-purchased iPads, allowing customers to exchange them for the version Apple announced today. Buyer's remorse on 3rd-gen iPad? Check with your Apple Store
It's all sunshine and Lightning for everyone who loves new Apple hardware -- except for those cranky not-so-few who bought a full-size 3rd generation iPad (Retina) in the run-up to today's announcements. Although some late rumors suggested a revamp to the iPad mini's big brother would include the new interface port and upgraded internals, that's cold comfort now if you really had your heart set on having the latest and greatest for more than a few short months.
