Nielsen: more than half of US teens now own smartphones
Yes, we know Android is holding steady at about 52 percent of US smartphone market share. What's interesting is just who's driving growth as a whole. Apple, HTC confirm settlement talks, plan more negotiations
A Friday court filing, made public today, confirms that Apple and HTC have met in recent weeks to conduct court-ordered settlement talks, FOSS Patents reports. One session is said to have happened the week of August 13th, while a second took place "more recently." The filing notes that more talks are planned. "While the private parties did not reach a settlement, there is an understanding that the private parties will continue settlement discussions in the future," the document reads. Agawi cloud game streaming headed to Windows 8, focused on 'mid-core and hardcore' games
Cloud streaming provider Agawi (formerly "iSwifter") is making a second major push with its cloud-based game streaming service alongside Windows 8 this October. Samsung to sue Apple over iPhone 5 in US
The Korea Times notes that Samsung is prepared to sue Apple if the iPhone 5 supports LTE. The company contends that the iPhone 5 will infringe on its fourth-generation (4G) long-term evolution (LTE) connectivity patents.
The newspaper quotes a senior Samsung executive as saying, "It's true that Samsung Electronics has decided to take immediate legal action against the Cupertino-based Apple."

Google Drive mobile app updated, brings editing to iOS
The mobile Google Drive app just keeps getting better and better. Are we ready to ditch the desktop web app for its iOS and Android package? AirPort Extreme shortages may hint at 802.11ac upgrade
Shortages of Apple's AirPort Extreme suggest that the company is about to refresh the peripheral, possibly with 802.11ac support, according to AppleInsider. Amazon and Best Buy's online outlets are in fact out of stock for the router, which may indicate that Apple has halted shipments of current-generation hardware. Like other companies, Apple lets channel inventories drain for a brief time before new hardware debuts.

Google Wallet to phase out prepaid card, cut-off date set for October 17th
Google Wallet's prepaid card concept has been plagued with its share of security concerns, and though Mountain View seems to have sorted out those issues, it's now phasing out the prepaid card program entirely. The service was intended to make up for a limited choice in debit and credit cards, and now that Google Wallet accepts any and all plastic, the prepaid option is a bit moot. Daily iPhone App: Super Hexagon is a wild ride
Terry Cavanagh is one of my favorite game developers. He's probably best known for his retro, mind-bending platformer VVVVVV (yes, that's its name, six Vs in a row), but he's made a number of other great titles, including the somber Don't Look Back, and the wild cat-based MMO ChatChat. Now, he's released a game on iOS called Super Hexagon, and, well, it's pretty insane.

News: HTC patents likely valid, could seek bans on iPhone, iPad

Norman Seeff, known for his celebrity photography, shared with Retronaut some outtakes from a 1984 photo shoot with Steve Jobs and the Macintosh design team. Sprint to expand LTE network to 100 cities in coming months
Sprint just revealed a timeline for bringing out its 4G LTE network to more than 100 cities. While not exact, the carrier outlined the full list of cities that will get the higher-speed mobile broadband network. Sprint said it has started construction of 4G infrastructure and will have the network up and running within the next few months.

Logitech has unveiled new color options for its Ultrathin Keyboard Cover and Solar Keyboard Folio. The white Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover is already available online and will be released in Apple stores later this month. Go Daddy acknowledges issues with sites, is 'working on it'
Go Daddy looks to be having a rough one today. Users are complaining of issues with sites and email addresses tied to the popular and oft-controversial domain registrar. For the moment, GoDaddy's own site appears to be working just fine, though the company has acknowledge its woes via Twitter, noting, "we're aware of the trouble people are having with our site. OCZ announces NAND chip shortages
The CEO of OCZ Technology Group, a major supplier of NAND flash chips, announced last week that the company would not be able to produce enough flash components to meet industry demand. As EE Times reports, the shortage in NAND components -- the chips that allow for smartphones and mobile devices to have high-density, low-power internal memory -- is said to be industry-wide and an outgrowth of the increasing demand for NAND supplies. The company believes that the supply situation will resolve itself, but it is moving to increase capacity by relying on new production processes.

Publisher BlueToad says it was true source of UDID leak
An app-based publishing company, BlueToad, was the real source of the one million UDIDs leaked to the Internet last week, NBC reports. The company's CEO, Paul DeHart, says that technicians downloaded the list and compared it to an internal database, and found that the two matched up 98 percent. "Thatís 100 percent confidence level, itís our data," he states. "As soon as we found out we were involved and victimized, we approached the appropriate law enforcement officials, and we began to take steps to come forward, clear the record and take responsibility for this."

Charadium resets, rebrands as Draw Mania
The Pictionary-like iOS game Draw Something has been a huge hit on the App Store, so much so that it claimed millions of users in a shocking amount of time, and was even acquired by Zynga for the trouble. But Draw Something was hardly the first app out on the store to borrow an idea from Pictionary. Ngmoco published Charadium long before Draw Something ever appeared, and while it never did as well as that other drawing title, it was doing the online guessing game thing early on.

Apple sues Polish online grocery store over 'A.pl' domain
Apple is asking the Polish patent office, the UPRP, to cancel a trademark belonging to a local online grocery vendor, A.PL, reports say. An initial meeting in the legal dispute is said to have taken place on August 29th, but ended up adjourned and deferred to a later date. Polish site Telepolis suggests that if the dispute isn't settled out of court, it could take two to three years to resolve.

Blue Toad publishing claims itself as source of leaked UDID database
According to a report in NBC news, a small publishing company is the source of Apple UDIDs leaked by hacker group AntiSec. Kindle 8 for Mac adds gesture support
Amazon has released an update to its Kindle app for the Mac that includes support for gestures like panning and swiping on Macs that are running Lion or greater. Kindle users now also have the ability to view the richer formatting available in Kindle Format 8 books. Other changes include improved support for large libraries and better performance for books with lots of notes and highlights
The Kindle for Mac app is available for free from the Mac App Store. It lets users access Amazon's Kindle Store, which has over 1 million e-book titles. Users can read books on their Mac and Amazon's WhisperSync service will sync their reading progress on their mobile device.

Intuit announces QuickBooks for Mac 2013
Intuit has revealed QuickBooks for Mac 2013, the next major update of the company's small business accounting software. Relatively few changes to the app have been detailed, but Intuit does say 2013 will simplify a number of common tasks, such as invoicing, reconciling accounts, and adding contacts. The iPhone 5 -- expected to be announced on Wednesday -- will support LTE networks in Europe and Asia as well as the US, according to sources for the Wall Street Journal. The people caution that it's unlikely that the device will support LTE in all countries, but a large reach could be important to the marketing of the device. This is hardly shocking news, but good news that will make the iPhone competitive going forward. The Wall Street Journal reports the upcoming iPhone will support LTE (Long Term Evolution) networks all over the world, including the US, Europe and Asia. Intuit announced today the next version of its QuickBooks small business accounting software for the Mac. The 2013 version focuses on making things easier for small business owners who are busy growing their business.
Code named "Zen" for its ease of use, QuickBooks 2013 simplifies common tasks like invoicing, adding contacts and reconciling accounts. Sony bringt laut Photoprice.ca eine Kompaktkamera mit Fullframe-Sensor im reduzierten Leica-mäßigen Retrolook mit integriertem Blitz. Die RX1 ist also die nächste Fotoneuheit neben der Alpha A99 und der NEX-6. Sony RX1 surfaces online, shows fixed 35mm Carl Zeiss lens
Images for a new compact camera from Sony, allegedly with a full-frame sensor, have appeared online.
