Sony's 84-inch 4K Bravia KD-84X900 goes up for pre-order tomorrow for $25,000
That stunning and gigantic Bravia that Sony unveiled at IFA, well, we finally have pricing and availability for this potential TV king. The 84-inch Bravia KD-84X900 will go up for pre-order tomorrow, September 6th, for the jaw-dropping price of $25,000 (let us know when you've stopped hyperventilating). Online Retina MacBook Pro orders now shipping same-day
The Retina MacBook Pro is now listed as "in stock" at the company's US online store, a check shows. Since its launch in June, the computer has always had a shipping delay of at least several days, and at one point took approximately a month to be delivered. As of Wednesday, demand appears to have tapered enough to match supply.

iMovie and Java updated
A duo of little updates just showed up on the Updates tab of the Mac App Store. Apple has released an update to iMovie, as well as an update to Java for OS X.
The iMovie update brings the app up to version 9.0.8, and "addresses an issue related to third party QuickTime components that could prevent iMovie from opening." Hopefully that resolves the issue I've had for about the last six months
The Java update is much more complex. Java for OS X 2012-005 "delivers improved security, reliability, and compatibility by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_35." But wait, there's more! Scientists develop pair of algorithms that could enable thermal cameras to pick out drunk people
We're not sure if Georgia Koukiou and Vassilis Anastassopoulos of the University of Patras in Greece like a tipple or not, but the pair have developed two algorithms that, when used with thermal imaging, could pick out drunk people in crowds. What is it that betrays your best intentions to look sober? As always, your face. Booze causes the blood-vessels in your visage to dilate, and the researchers used this principle to compare facial scans against a database of tipple-free mug shots. Adobe has released an update to Adobe Photoshop Touch for the iPad adding support for the Retina Display in the third-generation iPad along with the ability to work with higher resolution images. Unsere Kollegen haben das heute Abend vorgestellte Droid RAZR HD von Motorola bereits kurz befingern dürfen, Fazit: das ICS-Smartphone bringt Gewicht auf die Hand, was sich aber eher nach Qualität als nach Backstein anfühlt. Ansonsten beeindruckt das Gerät mit seinem 4,7-Zoll-Display, das fast von Kante bis Kante reicht und 720p darstellt, über die Darstellungsqualität lässt sich aber erst mehr sagen, wenn man das Droid RAZR HD in regulären Lichtverhältnissen zu fassen kriegt. News: Apple buys LTE patents to counter Samsung legal threats
Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reports that Apple has acquired a collection of LTE mobile technology patents in preparation for new legal challenges by Samsung. Court upholds Apple victory in Cover Flow, Spotlight, Time Machine patents
An appeals court in Washington has upheld a recent Apple victory on a number of different patents for features in the OS X operating system, including things like Cover Flow, Spotlight search and Time Machine. A company called Mirror Worlds is trying to get a judgment that Apple infringed on its patents with those features, but after initially winning damages of more than $625 million in a jury case, Apple was able to get the decision appealed and wiped the initial ruling clean. Now, an appeals court has denied Mirror Worlds' appeal, leaving Apple the victor, at least until another appeal is filed and run through the courts yet again.

Apple issues new Lion, Snow Leopard Java updates
Apple has posted two new OS X Java updates: one for Lion, Java for OS X 2012-005, and one for Snow Leopard, Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 10. In both cases the patches now prevent Java from running in an always-on state. The Java plugin is killed if no applets have been run for an "extended period of time;" in fact, if Java for OS X 2012-004 wasn't previously installed, 005 disables Java by default until a person choose to enable or re-enable a Java plugin in their browser.

First Looks: Neocube Crystal Couture Case for iPhone 4/4S
We don't normally cover simple plastic shells, but Neocube's Crystal Couture Case ($40) deserves some attention because of its cosmetic appeal. The hard plastic shell is covered with rhinestones in a number of different patterns, not surprisingly aimed at a largely female audience. News: Chinese manufacturer allegedly patents new iPhone design
A Chinese manufacturer has already copied — and may have patented — the new iPhone design, according to a recent report. The Goophone I5, an Android-based smartphone released in late August, closely matches leaked images of the new iPhone, and Gizchina reports that GooPhone claims to have patented the design in China ahead of the next-generation iPhone’s launch. Comixology sends out call for comic creator info
As we've said before, Comixology has essentially conquered the App Store for comics on the iPad. There are a few companies and options out there for buying digital comic books, but Comixology (with its Comics app) has secured a huge collection for sale, and offers up great prices in conjunction with huge comics publishers almost every week.

Motorola Droid RAZR HD Maxx hands-on: bigger battery, beautiful display, Jelly Bean onboard
Every family has a big brother and in Motorola's case, it's the Droid RAZR HD Maxx. The device, bearing a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED HD display, just went official at the company's event today in New York City. And to help with the bombast, HelloMoto! trotted out Google's Eric Schmidt, giving these three Verizon RAZR amigos a hearty welcome. Motorola Droid RAZR M hands-on
Motorola just took the wraps of the Droid RAZR M and, we've gotta say, the slender handset is quite the looker. The 8mm thick body is plastic and kevlar, just like its titular predecessor, but it adds some nice visual flourishes of its own, including rivets around the rim of the device. Despite its diminutive size it has a nice heft in the hand, though we wouldn't say it's built like a tank. Tabu's Universal Mini Stand: A preview of a handy iPhone accessory
Tabu Design is a small design firm that takes the Kickstarter approach to raising funds for its product line. We took a look at their highly successful iPad Pouch project a couple of weeks ago; that project pulled in almost US$16,000 with an original funding goal of $5,000. Now the company is back with the Universal Mini Stand (or minü stand as it's called on the box), a diminutive little iPhone stand and cable manager.

Motorola lässt in New York ordentlichst die Sau raus. Drei neue Smartphones wurden während der Veranstaltung bereits angekündigt.

Well, we weren't expecting it at today's Motorola event, but Motorola just outed a Maxx version of the Droid RAZR HD. Like its brother, the HD Maxx has the same dual-core CPU, LTE, and an 8-megapixel shooter, plus it upgrades the onboard storage to 32GB. Google's Eric Schmidt: 1.3 million Android activations a day, 480 million devices worldwide
Kicking off the Motorola event in NYC, Google's Eric Schmidt has revealed some new Android figures for its captive audience of journalists and bloggers. It's now notching up some 1.3 million activations a day, which includes around 70,000 tablets ("We were late to them", notes Schmidt) every 24 hours. Apple denies handing over UDIDs to FBI
Apple has issued its own statement in response to a leaked list of 1 million UDIDs purportedly stolen from an FBI notebook. "The FBI has not requested this information from Apple, nor have we provided it to the FBI or any organization," spokeswoman Natalie Kerris tells AllThingsD. "Additionally, with iOS 6 we introduced a new set of APIs meant to replace the use of UDID and will soon be banning the use of UDID."

Kabelloses Laden und allerhand LTE-Frequenzen bei Nokias Lumia 920

Apple denies giving FBI any iOS device UDIDs, raises questions over AntiSec claims
Hacking group AntiSec (connected to Anonymous and LulzSec) made some bold claims Tuesday that it had obtained the unique device identifiers (UDIDs) of 12 million iOS devices from an FBI laptop, setting more than a few people on edge. The FBI has already denied that anything was stolen, but Apple has gone one step further to argue that it had no involvement. FBI and Apple separately deny being source of leaked iPhone UDIDs
Yesterday, hacker group AntiSec released 1 million UDIDs from a pool of 12 million that it allegedly obtained from an FBI issued laptop. The group used this high-profile leak to accuse the FBI of spying on the American public. Late on Tuesday, the FBI responded to AllThingsD with its own statement that says it was not the source of the leak.

Samsung asks for South Korean injunction against LG for allegedly stealing OLED tech
LG and Samsung have had to live with each other as cornerstones of the South Korean economy, but that uncomfortable balance might just have been knocked off-kilter through an escalating legal battle. Samsung has filed for an injunction against LG for supposedly coercing 11 Samsung researchers (already indicted in July) into leaking the secrets behind its OLED screens, including 18 pieces of technology and 21 related documents. IFA 2012 und die Apple-Klone: Von NetBook Air, TabletPad und iMacTV

BBC iPlayer offline playback: More details unveiled
As we noted yesterday, the BBC's homegrown iOS media player, iPlayer, now allows offline viewing for downloaded content through its app. It is still unavailable in the US, but a year-long international rollout is currently being tested. Some additional details are now available about how the app works and how long you'll be able to keep content.

China Unicom rumored to get iPhone 5 by year's end
Sources inside China Unicom are claiming that the iPhone 5 could launch with the carrier by the end of the year, according to Sohu IT. Alles in allem war die IFA 2012 wirklich sehr interessant, wir haben viele Produkte gesehen, von denen die meisten zwar schon im Vorfeld angekündigt wurden, die in echt dann aber doch noch etwas schöner anzusehen waren. So the big buzz of the day's just passed, but now's the time to focus on the lesser details of Nokia's big Windows Phone 8 / Lumia presser: the accessories. Happy 5th anniversary, iPod touch
Here's to the lesser cousin of the iPhone, the iPod touch, first shown on this day at the "Beat Goes On" event back in 2007. I still own and use a first-generation 8 GB iPod touch, even though it doesn't have a speaker, only has WiFi, has no camera and will never be up-to-date with the latest version of iOS. For casual gaming, radio streaming and the occasional kid use, my iPod touch still serves a useful purpose -- and gets better battery life than my iPhone 4S.
Last year I bought my kids the latest generation of iPod touches so they could stay in touch with me. While it's unfortunate they are still locked into a paltry 8 GB of storage (and love to take photos and videos), the touch is a valuable commun

Marvel Avengers Initiative brings Infinity Blade hack-and-slash to the world of the Avengers
Marvel (and its games division) has unveiled a brand new game for iOS called Marvel Avengers Initiative. This game has been teased for a little while now, and TUAW was lucky enough to see an in-progress version a few weeks ago. In just a few words, you can call this one "Avengers Blade." It's an Infinity Blade-style action RPG, set in the world of the super popular Avengers superhero team.
The game will consist of a series of episodes, the first of which will be available at launch. Just over a year later, Contour has released the Contour+2 camera as the follow up to its Contour+ model. Like its predecessor, the +2 shoots video at up to 1080p and 120fps, though that max frame rate's only available at 480p resolution. NEC rolls out new 22-inch IPS LED eco-friendly monitor
NEC is has rolled out its latest 22-inch monitor in its MultiSync EA range, the EA224WMi. Nachdem die NEX-5R ja nun auf der IFA offiziell vorgestellt wurde, warten wir eigentlich nur noch auf die große Schwester NEX-6. Von der ist auf dem Weibu-Account von Vincent Kang dieses Foto aufgetaucht, das die Unterschiede zur NEX-5R zeigt, die ja nicht groß sind: die NEX-6 hat einen elektronischen Sucher und das Modus-Rad auf der Kamera ist ein wenig höher. Seit gestern besteht kein Zweifel mehr, dass Apple am 12. September ein neues iPhone vorstellen wird. Nun stellt sich die Frage, was Apple sonst noch präsentieren könnte. Einer Website zufolge stehen auch neue iPods auf dem Programm, wobei es auch ein ganz neues Modell geben könnte.

Riccio, Federighi each awarded 75,000 shares of Apple stock
According to a new filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Apple has awarded restricted stock units (RSUs) to each of its latest senior vice presidents, Dan Riccio (the new SVP of Hardware Engineering) and Craig Federighi (VP of Mac Software and Engineering, who was moved up to SVP status, both men reporting directly to Tim Cook). Analyst: iPads replacing PCs in schools, cannibalizing sales
Needham & Company analyst Charlie Wolf noted in a letter to investors that while PCs in the educational market continue to outsell iPads, the remarkable growth of the iPad in the most recent quarters shows definitively that it is cannibalizing PC sales in the sector, a trend that will likely continue further narrow the gap. Making money in a crowded App Store: it's dog eat dog and Spy vs Spy
On the 25th of July, a shiny iOS remake of the 8-bit classic Spy vs Spy launched on the App Store for $1.99. The next day, the price dropped to $0.99 in a launch sale. On the 30th, it went up briefly, then developer Robots and Pencils announced that "to show our appreciation, we are extending the sale price indefinitely." It remains at $0.99 to this day.

MoviePro for the iPhone 4S adds features to the built-in camera
If you do a lot of moviemaking on your iPhone, you'll probably want something with extended capabilities. There are plenty of apps to help at various price points and feature sets.
Recently-released MoviePro is among the better ones. Although it runs on the iPhone 4 and the iPod touch, you don't get all the features without the more powerful iPhone 4S.
MoviePro offers pause and zoom (4S only), selectable frame rates, aspect ratio, and variable audio and video quality. There is a tap-to-focus feature (additional taps set exposure), auto white balance, a timer and the ability to choose maximum record duration. The zoom feature just magnifies the pixels you already have, but some people will find a use for it.

Judge: Oracle must pay Google $1 million in court costs
US Judge William Alsup has awarded Google $1 million in legal fees in a hearing earlier today -- denying the search engine giant its initial request of $4 million. Additionally, the judge has decided to take "no further action regarding the subject of payments by the litigants to commentators and journalists" referring to his order requiring Oracle and Google to disclose astroturfers on the payroll.

Daily iPhone App: Lost Cities is a great port of a popular card game
Lost Cities is one of Reiner Knizia's award-winning board games that recently made its way over to iOS, and I think it's great. The game is simple and easy to play, but it shows off quite a bit of complexity among just a few elements. The biggest complaint I have is that the tutorial can be confusing, and there's no iPad version yet, unfortunately. But Lost Cities is an excellent strategy title good for quite a few matches of play.
The core game here is a card game. You deal cards of various colors and numbers out of a stack, and then place those cards in certain colored lanes or in a discard pile. Playing cards in lanes gets you points. Each lane starts at negative twenty points, so the player needs to try and put as many ca

Sony Xperia T shown on UK's Phones4U... with AT&T branding
Seeing the trademark AT&T globe brandished on the front of the Sony Xperia T may simply pass as a pleasant surprise for US customers if it were leaked through a Stateside e-tailer, but the GSM giant's logo popping up on a UK website is more of a head-scratcher.
