Apple Releases watchOS 27.0.1 for Additional Models

After releasing watchOS 27.0.1 for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 last week to address a bug that was causing devices to restart unexpectedly, Apple has now released the update for all eligible watches, which includes Series 9 and later. Apple's release notes say only that the update "provides bug fixes for your Apple Watch" and the company does not list any security fixes, so it's unclear what exactly is addressed with the update.Related Roundups: watchOS 26, watchOS 27Related Forum: Apple WatchThis article, "Apple Releases watchOS 27.0.1 for Additional Models" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iOS 26.7.1 Fixes Vulnerability Used in Targeted Attacks

iOS 26.7.1, iPadOS 26.7.1, macOS Tahoe 26.7.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.8.1 address a major vulnerability that Apple believes was used against a small number of people. Apple's security support pages say there was a CoreGraphics out-of-bounds write issue that could be exploited with a maliciously crafted file, allowing for arbitrary code execution. It has been fixed with improved bounds checking. Apple says the flaw was exploited in an "extremely sophisticated attack" on targeted individuals running older versions of iOS. Apple's latest operating systems don't appear to be affected, and the iOS 27.0.1, iPadOS 27.0.1, and macOS Golden Gate 27.0.1 updates that came out today have no published CVE entries. While the attack wasn't widespread, if you're still running a version of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, or macOS Sequoia, you should install the new updates as soon as possible. Now that the vulnerability is public, it could be further exploited against users who aren't protected.Related Roundups: iOS

Yeah, don’t give Meta’s Muse app access to your Mac

The ability of AI systems to act as agents, carrying out tasks on our behalf, is the single biggest development in the technology. But Siri AI isn’t the only agent you can give full access to your Apple devices, with Meta’s Muse app the latest example – and one tech writer’s experience really underlines why you absolutely don’t want to do this … more…

12 New Things to Expect From Apple This October

October will be an especially busy month for Apple this year, with the company set to release the iPhone Duo, both iOS 27.1 and iOS 27.2, and a new Mac Studio configuration with 512GB of RAM. In addition, up to six more Apple products may be unveiled next month, such as new iPad mini, HomePod mini, and Apple TV 4K models. Below, we have outlined 12 new things to expect from Apple this October. Confirmed iPhone Duo: The foldable iPhone Duo launches on Friday, October 23. Pre-orders begin Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time. iOS 27.1: Apple said the iPhone Duo will ship with iOS 27.1, so the software update is expected to be released before October 23. iOS 27.2: Apple jumped ahead to an iOS 27.2 beta because iOS 27.1 is dedicated to the iPhone Duo. iOS 27.2 adds support for the five additional Siri AI languages that Apple promised would be coming in October, so accordingly we can expect iOS 27.2 to be released at some point during the month. Why iOS 27 slows down even the new iPhone 18 Pro at first

All iPhones are slower than you'd expect when they are new or when you've updated iOS, and Indexing is generally the culprit. Here's exactly what's happening and what you can do about it.While indexing is continuing, you'll see "Optimising Search and Siri" in Settings. Not to drag this out, the short answer is that all you absolutely have to do to speed up your iPhone is wait. You can help it along a bit, but the iPhone is indexing all of the data you've got on it and when that's done, it won't be so slow anymore. In fact it will feel especially fast, because then whenever you search your emails or look for a file, the iPhone has it indexed and will take you straight to it. This has always been the case with Spotlight searches, and it's now also because of Sir AI. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

The iPhone 18 Pro: The best and final iteration of the current form factor?

There’s a running joke that Apple always breathlessly announces that each year’s iPhone Pro is “the best iPhone we’ve ever made,” as if that were in some way surprising. But I do think that there’s some poignancy to the iPhone 18 Pro, because if the rumors about next year’s model are true, this could be the final iteration of the form factor that began with the iPhone X back in 2017. Specifically, we’re expecting next year to see the next big step toward that “single slab of glass” vision which will end the era of evolutionary change we’ve seen over the last decade … more…

Apple Ordered to Pay $5.7 Billion Over Haptic Patent Infringement

Apple has been ordered to pay $5.7 billion in damages to Taction Technology after a federal jury found it had infringed two of the haptics company's patents, reported CNBC over the weekend. Taction sued Apple in 2021, arguing that Apple's Taptic Engine in the company's Apple Watches and iPhones uses its inventions without proper license or authority. Apple initially had the case dismissed in 2023, but the Federal Circuit later revived it. The jury trial began September 14, and seven jurors deliberated for two days after proceedings concluded. They returned on Friday and delivered the verdict in favor of Taction. "We're happy the jury found for Taction and vindicated its patent rights," the company's lead counsel, Lance Yang, told CNBC. "Taction waited five and a half years for this case to get to trial, so it was a long time coming." Apple said it intends to appeal the decision. "While we thank the jury for their consideration, we strongly disagree with today's verdict and the damages awarded,

iPhone 18 Pro Max review: The best iPhone for about a month

In any other year, I'd find a novel way to say that the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the best iPhone ever. While that's true at the time of writing, it's probably only going to be that for a vanishingly small amount of time.iPhone 18 Pro Max review: The brand-new model in SilverThis year is the first where the iPhone Pro Max isn't the most exciting model in Apple's lineup. That honor goes to the iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable device and one that won't hit store shelves until weeks after this review is published. And that leaves me at something of a disadvantage. If you're reading this after Friday, October 23, 2026, you already know how the iPhone Duo stacks up. New Vision Pro Headset: Apple Considering Four Different Concepts

Apple is working on a "completely revamped" Vision Pro headset that could go in any of four directions and likely won't arrive before late 2028 or early 2029, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said Apple's Vision team is exploring four concepts for the device, codenamed N224, including designs that offload internal components in a similar way to Meta's latest VR Glasses, which are expected to launch next spring. An external computing module on Meta's device houses the battery and main processor, and can be clipped to the user's waist. Gurman, who has previewed Meta's headset, says the module is about the same size and weight as the current Vision Pro's battery pack, but with a grippy exterior. Gurman reports that regardless of the Vision team's work, senior Apple decision-makers still consider the external puck concept as a "poor user experience" and want the company to stick with "something closer to an all-in-one design." If any of this so
