HomeKit Weekly: ULTRALOQ releases its first UWB smart lock that works with Apple Home
Hands-free smart lock unlocks/entry has always been a bit ahead, marketing-wise, compared to what the technology offers. Location-based auto-unlocks work until they fail for no specific reason, and using a key seems much easier. ULTRALOQ’s new Bolt Mission takes a different approach than most smart locks as its using ultra-wideband to detect when you are approaching the door, vs just tracking your location via GPS.

Banks and Credit Unions to Team Up Against Apple Pay Fees
An antitrust lawsuit accusing Apple of blocking tap-to-pay competition is moving forward and will see banks and credit unions able to band together to sue Apple.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White this week certified a class in the lawsuit. It will include any U.S. entities that issued any payment card enabled for Apple Pay and paid Apple a fee for Apple Pay transactions on that payment card. He also denied a motion from Apple to exclude expert testimony that plaintiff attorneys allege offers proof Apple has monopoly power over the mobile wallet market.
First filed in 2022, the suit claims Apple illegally collects up to $1 billion annually in fees by preventing rivals from accessing the iPhone's NFC chip to build mobile wallets that would compete with Apple Pay. When an iPhone user buys something with a card linked to Apple Pay, the card issuer has to pay Apple a 0.15 percent fee for credit cards and half a cent for debit cards, according to the lawsuit. If you make a $1,000 purchase via Apple P

Thousands of banks can now sue over Apple Pay fees in one antitrust case
Thousands of U.S. banks and credit unions can pursue their Apple Pay fee claims together after a federal judge certified their antitrust lawsuit as a class action.Using Apple Pay at a payment terminalThe financial institutions accuse Apple of blocking competing tap-to-pay wallets on iPhone while charging card issuers fees for transactions. They argue Apple could impose those fees because rival wallets couldn't compete for contactless payments on the iPhone.Judge Jeffrey White certified the class on September 23 and rejected Apple's attempt to exclude the plaintiffs' damages expert. The ruling doesn't decide whether Apple violated antitrust law or owes the issuers money.Card issuers pay Apple 0.15% of the value of credit card purchases made through Apple Pay and half a cent for each debit transaction, according to the credit unions' lawsuit. For example, a $100 credit card purchase through Apple Pay costs the card issuer 15 cents in Apple Pay fees. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

Lululook's $129.99 Strata Milanese Band matches the Apple Watch Ultra 4. It is made from 99 percent woven grade 5 titanium, and it has a coating that protects it from scratches. The Strata band comes in black and natural finishes, and the titanium is about 40 percent lighter than stainless steel.

Apple Code Confirms iPad 12 Specs: A19, 8GB RAM, N1, C1X Modem
The next low-cost iPad will be equipped with an A19 chip, C1X modem, N1 networking chip, and 8GB RAM, according to details found in Apple's code by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.
We've heard some of these same specifications in prior rumors, so this is more of a confirmation than a new leak. The iPad 11 has an A16 chip, so the upgrade to the A19 in the 12th-generation iPad will bring a noticeable improvement in performance. More importantly, the A19 supports Apple Intelligence, so the iPad 12 will have all the Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features missing from the iPad 11.
The iPad 11 has 6GB RAM, but 8GB RAM is the minimum for Apple Intelligence, and the RAM boost will also speed things up.
Apple's C1X modem supports sub–6GHz 5G networks, and it is more efficient than the Qualcomm modem used in the existing iPad. The addition of the N1 networking chip will bring support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread.
Though not included in the code, it's possible the iPad 12 wil

Some iPhone 18 Pro Max Users Experiencing AT&T Cellular Issues
A subset of iPhone 18 Pro Max users in the U.S. are experiencing issues with AT&T cellular connectivity and/or eSIM provisioning, according to complains across the MacRumors Forums, Reddit, and the Apple Support Community.
Affected users are unable to connect to the AT&T network for phone calls, text messages, or data.
Notably, the U.S. version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the only new iPhone released this month that is equipped with a Qualcomm cellular modem. The smaller iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo are equipped with Apple's C2 modem worldwide, as is the iPhone 18 Pro Max in all other countries. However, it is unclear if this is a contributing factor.

The iPhone 18 Pro's Main camera combines a new 48-megapixel sensor, a faster variable-aperture lens, and updated image processing. The variable aperture offers settings of ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, and ƒ/4.0. The iPhone 17 Pro has a fixed ƒ/1.78 aperture, so the new lens's widest setting admits about 45% more light on aperture values alone, or just over half an exposure stop. iPad Mini 8 Leaked: A20 Pro Chip, Landscape Camera, and More
Apple's next-generation iPad mini will feature the A20 Pro chip, a rearranged front-facing camera, and a new speaker system, leaked code reveals.

The new iPad mini features a landscape front-facing camera, making it the final iPad to transition to this positioning. Far from hurting sales, raising iPhone prices has brought Apple growing market share in India, at least for now, and at least while it also has installment plans.Deirdre O'Brien (left) and Tim Cook open Apple BKC, the first Apple Store in India, back in 2023 (Source: Apple)Analysts have predictably yet plausibly argued that higher iPhone prices and no base iPhone 18 would hit Apple's bottom line. That may well be true in most places, but a new CNBC report says it definitely is not in India.Reportedly, the iPhone 18 Pro is seeing almost 20% more demand in the country than the iPhone 17 Pro at this point in 2025. "Apple's volume market share is likely to hit 10% in 2026," said Counterpoint Research director Tarun Pathak, "reaching double digits in a single calendar year for the first time, up from 4% in 2022." Apple Watch Ultra 4 review: An end-to-end health ecosystem
Apple's new Health Sensing System for Apple Watch Ultra 4 means more accurate and more frequent health metric tracking. It feels like the peak offering of a device before a necessary complete redesign.Apple Watch Ultra 4 review: Better health features & AINearly every improvement made to Apple Watch Ultra 4 relates to health, fitness, and the ability to track those metrics. Even the longer battery life was pitched as a way to track metrics over a longer period of time.Tim Cook may have stepped down as CEO before Apple Watch Ultra 4 was revealed, but it and the Apple Watch Series 12 are clear realizations of his vision. Apple Watch is a health-focused wearable that aims to improve the wearer's life, and perhaps even save them in emergency situations. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

How to leave iCloud without losing your data
Skip one hidden step when you cut back or cancel iCloud and you could lose years of photos and messages before your account fully disconnects. Here's how to safely export iCloud data.Apple appsBefore changing anything, you need to know what each iCloud service holds and what happens when synchronization stops. Settings presents iCloud as a single service, but several separate systems work behind that name. Some services synchronize live libraries or store files. Others back up devices or power Apple-only features such as Hide My Email and HomeKit Secure Video.iCloud Backup generally excludes data that already synchronizes through iCloud. Photos in iCloud Photos usually aren't duplicated in a device backup, and the same applies to messages and notes stored in iCloud. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

Create a Custom Pass in the Wallet App on iPhone
In iOS 27, Apple's Wallet app lets you create custom passes for things like event tickets, gift cards, loyalty cards, and more. Here's how it works.
If you have a ticket for an event and there's not a digital version available for the Wallet app, you can create one using the physical pass you have. The same goes for other cards, like a membership card, for example.
The Wallet app can use Visual Intelligence to scan your card, and it will match it to a template with corresponding fields that you can tweak before adding it to your Wallet.
Alternatively, you can create the pass manually, choose a template ("Membership," "Event," or "Custom") and then adjust the color and other details. All you need to do then is scan the barcode or QR code from your physical pass.
Each template includes relevant information like name, location, or admission type. There are 12 background colors to choose from, or seven custom backgrounds for categories like theater, music, sports, and movies.
Fields can be ad

How to Check Your Mac's Manufacture Date in macOS 27
If you installed macOS 27 Golden Gate, here's a way to find out when your Mac was manufactured. Apple has restored access to information that effectively disappeared when it randomized its serial numbers a few years ago.
On your Mac, go to System Settings ➝ General ➝ About, then click "Regulatory Certification" under the System Report button. The certificate will show with a new "Date of Manufacture" field at the bottom.
You used to be able to decode the serial number on an Apple device to find out when and where it was made. That changed in 2021, when Apple began adopting randomized serial numbers without encoded manufacturing details.
That left owners of newer Macs with no similarly straightforward way to determine when their machine was made – until macOS 27 arrived.
The spot was made by MacRumors forum member pdfu. Another forum member said that the displayed date they saw on their certificate corresponded to their Mac's logic board rather than the date the complete machine was assemble

Bambu Lab P1S 3D Printer review: easy multi-color printing with AMS
The Bambu Lab P1S 3D Printer is about as easy as this hobby can get, with simple setup, one-button printing from an app, auto-leveling, and a four-spool AMS, it'll be hard to stop printing.Bambu Lab P1S 3D Printer reviewI'm still a 3D printing novice that has only dabbled in the space since I tested the Flashforge AD5X. That was a good starter printer, but I've moved up a tier to the Bambu Lab P1S, and it's tough to look back. One of the first things I learned about 3D printing was that the filament needed to be stored somewhere dry. The lack of an Automatic Material System, or AMS, was a big sticking point for the AD5X, even though it did have four spools built in for multi-color, it wasn't enclosed. What's Gone in macOS Golden Gate and What's Next in macOS 28
With macOS Golden Gate, Apple phased out several legacy features and services, cutting support for older devices and accessories. More cuts are coming in macOS 28 as Apple continues to root out lingering Intel features.
Here's everything that's been dropped.
Support for Intel Macs - macOS Golden Gate is the first version of macOS that runs only on Apple silicon Macs. Intel Macs can't run it and are limited to macOS Tahoe. Apple still plans to offer security updates through fall 2028.
Boot Camp Assistant - Since macOS Golden Gate doesn't run on Intel Macs, it doesn't support Boot Camp. Apple silicon Macs require virtualization software like Parallels or VMware Fusion to run Windows.
Rosetta 2 (Temporarily) - Upgrading to macOS Golden Gate removes Rosetta, but if you have an app installed that requires it, you can reinstall it. macOS Golden Gate is the last version of macOS that will have full Rosetta support.
Apple Filing Protocol - Apple deprecated AFP back in macOS Sequoia 15.5, an
