iPhone 18 Pro Launching Tomorrow With These 10 New Features
Apple last week unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. While the devices look very similar to the iPhone 17 Pro models, there are still quite a few new features and incremental changes compared to the previous generation.
Below, we have recapped 10 new features coming with the iPhone 18 Pro models, which have been available to pre-order since Saturday, September 12 and will begin arriving to customers and launch in stores this Friday, September 18.
A20 Pro chip, the first 2nm chip in an iPhone. It has a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine. Apple says the chip delivers up to 20% faster CPU performance and up to 40% faster graphics performance compared to the A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Pro. Apple also says sustained performance is up to 40% faster.
Three new color options: Burgundy, Black, and Glacier. Orange is no longer an option. The rear aluminum and Ceramic Shield glass area are now more color matched.

New iPhone 18 Pro Models Will Have Day One Update
Customers receiving an iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, an Apple Watch Series 12, or an Apple Watch Ultra 4 tomorrow will need to install a software update right away.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max ship with iOS 27 variants with a 24A427 or 24A8428 version number. The launch version of iOS 27 is version 24A437, so if you're getting an iPhone 18 Pro, expect a software update during the setup process.
The Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 have watchOS 27 with a version number of 24R359, but the launch version of watchOS 27 is 24R364.
We're also expecting the AirPods 5 to have a day one firmware update, though that will happen over the air. Apple recently released 9A350 AirPods firmware to add support for iOS 27 features.
All of the new products are set to launch on Friday, September 18. Related Roundup: iPhone 18 ProBuyer's Guide: iPhone 18 Pro (Buy Now)Related Forum: iPhoneThis article, "New iPhone 18 Pro Models Will Have Day One Update" first appeared

iPhone 18 Pro Unboxing: New Colors, Better Photos, and Smaller Dynamic Island
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are launching tomorrow, but we were able to get one early to share some initial impressions.
Subscribe to the MacRumors YouTube channel for more videos.
Both the 18 Pro and Pro Max are heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models they replace, and it's most noticeable when you pick up the Pro Max. It was a heavy phone to begin with, and now there's more weight (249 grams vs. 233 grams).
If you hated last year's two-tone design with the contrast between the aluminum frame and the glass back, there's good news. Apple is now matching the glass to the frame for a more uniform look.
Our review unit is Apple's new glacier color, which is a light blue that's slightly different from the other light blue shades Apple has used in the past. Unlike some of those blues, the glacier color actually looks blue and not silver. Apple is also offering the iPhone 18 Pro models in burgundy, silver, and black. We have a burgundy model on the way and will share that in the

Apple Increases Battery Replacement Fee for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max
In the U.S., Apple is charging a higher $129 out-of-warranty fee to replace the battery in an iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max compared to previous models, according to its website.
Apple has always charged $119 to replace the battery in iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro models, so the fee has increased by $10 for the iPhone 18 Pro models, which have larger batteries. If your iPhone has AppleCare+ coverage, though, Apple will replace the battery for no extra charge if its capacity has dropped below 80%. You can check this in the Settings app under Battery → Battery Health.Related Roundup: iPhone 18 ProBuyer's Guide: iPhone 18 Pro (Buy Now)Related Forum: iPhoneThis article, "Apple Increases Battery Replacement Fee for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iPhone 15 Pro vs. iPhone 18 Pro Buyer's Guide: Should You Upgrade?
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max earlier this month, arriving three years after the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Three generations of changes make for a substantial upgrade, bringing larger displays, an all-new design, improvements to every camera, significantly longer battery life, and faster charging.
The iPhone 16 Pro introduced larger displays with thinner borders, the Camera Control, a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, and improved video and audio recording. The iPhone 17 Pro replaced the titanium frame and glass back with an aluminum unibody, added vapor chamber cooling and Ceramic Shield 2, and upgraded both the telephoto and front-facing cameras. This year's refresh centers on the A20 Pro chip, a variable-aperture Main camera, a smaller Dynamic Island, and a further increase in battery capacity. For iPhone 15 Pro owners, all three sets of changes accumulate.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 for 256GB, $200 more than the iPhone 15 Pro's $999 launch price, alth

iPhone 18 Pro Max Test Shows Much Faster Charging From 0% to 100%
Apple said the new iPhone 18 Pro models are capable of faster USB-C charging compared to the iPhone 17 Pro models, and a new video shared by the YouTube channel Xiaobai's Tech Reviews offers a closer look at the year-over-year improvement.
As spotted by the account Ice Universe, the video reveals that the iPhone 18 Pro Max can go from 0% to 100% battery life in as little as 55 minutes with a capable charger, compared to 81 minutes for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. In other words, the iPhone 18 Pro Max can be "fully" charged 26 minutes faster compared to the previous generation (iPhones continue to receive a slow trickle of power even after they show 100% battery life).
In line with Apple's advertised claim, the video showed that the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach 50% battery life in just 15 minutes, down from 20 minutes for the iPhone 17 Pro models.
The smaller iPhone 18 Pro should have similar charging speeds.
During the video's test, the iPhone 18 Pro Max reached a peak charging speed of 52W for the fir

iPhone 18 Pro Makes the Starting Lineup for Apple TV's Dodgers vs. Giants Broadcast
Apple TV's broadcast of the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants game this Friday will incorporate the brand new iPhone 18 Pro.
More than a dozen iPhone 18 Pro devices will be placed throughout Dodger Stadium during the game, according to Apple. The devices will capture live gameplay from unique vantage points and scenes from around the ballpark, including batting practice, player introductions, dugout perspectives, and the atmosphere throughout the stadium.
"iPhone will offer unique perspectives that would be difficult to achieve with traditional broadcast cameras thanks to its small footprint," said Apple.
Apple already placed four iPhone 17 Pro devices in Fenway Park last year to capture footage for a Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers broadcast on Apple TV, and one of them ended up in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 Reviews: Look Out, Oura Ring
The first reviews of the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 are now available ahead of the devices launching this Friday, September 18.
While both new Apple Watches look virtually identical to the previous-generation models on the outside, there are a handful of upgrades this year. For example, a more powerful S11 chip and larger LEDs on the optical heart sensor enable more accurate and frequent heart rate sensing, and HRV is now measured up to 24 times more often.
There is also a new Readiness app, more accurate step tracking, and faster charging. Finally, two new Audio Intelligence features Siri Rewind and Live Recap will be available later this year, as part of an upcoming watchOS update.

A20 Pro succeeds because it was built just for what Apple needs
Apple executives have been talking in detail about the iPhone 18 Pro's 2nm A20 Pro processor, but also how it was intentionally designed alongside so many other elements to provide greater speed and efficiency.Sri Santhanam talks about the design of the A20 Pro processor - image credit: The Circuit podcastThe A20 Pro processor in the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo is the most capable chip ever in any iPhone. iPhone 17 review one year later: Still plenty to appreciate
After a year with the iPhone 17, I've found plenty to appreciate about it, but that still doesn't make me love it.iPhone 17 review, one year laterThe iPhone 17 was Apple's 2025 baseline release. For whatever reason, the general public really took to it. Apple's own Tim Cook pointed out repeatedly that the phone was one of Apple's best sellers of all time.As fate would have it, it was also the iPhone I was, more or less, forced into buying. My beloved iPhone 13 mini was on death's doorstep, and because I live in 2026 and not 2006, I can't really be sans iPhone. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

Which iOS 27 CarPlay Features Actually Work in Your Car?
In iOS 27, available now, CarPlay gets its biggest update in years, but some features depend on what type of car you have rather than your iPhone model. Some of the biggest additions won't do anything in the vast majority of vehicles on the road today. Here's how the new features pan out.
Works in any CarPlay Vehicle
Custom widgets: In iOS 27, CarPlay is no longer limited to Apple's handful of stock widgets. Any compatible widget from your iPhone's Home Screen can now be added to the CarPlay dashboard. To do so, go to Settings ➝ General ➝ CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Widgets ➝ Add Widgets. You can drag widgets to rearrange them, tap to remove them, and toggle Smart Rotate and Widget Suggestions.
Audio scrubbing: The Now Playing screen now has a proper progress bar, allowing you to drag to any point in a song or podcast rather than having to tap skip repeatedly. There's also a persistent mini-player that keeps artwork and controls on screen while you browse.

PSA: watchOS 27 Removes This Useful Feature From Your Apple Watch
Apple released watchOS 27 on September 14, bringing a new Audio Intelligence feature set to its latest Apple Watch models, but as a result, owners of previous models are set to lose out doubly in the process.
Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 models later this year will get Live Rewind, a feature that provides a transcript of any spoken audio that was picked up by the device in the last 15 seconds. To activate the feature, users need to double-click the Digital Crown.
Unforunately, this double-click action is the same one that in watchOS 26 switches between the current app and the previously used app – or indeed the watch face and the last used app.
It's a neat way of multitasking on your Apple Watch without tapping the display.
Needless to say, this feature will no longer work for anyone upgrading to Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 models when the devices are released on September 18. Apple has reserved the double-click action for when its new Live Rewind feature is activated later this year

Übersicht: Sehr viel Neues in iOS 27.2

How to use Visual Intelligence on macOS Golden Gate, and when it's worth it
Apple has finally brought Visual Intelligence to the Mac with macOS Golden Gate, and it is a boon when it works. Here's how to get started. You can select a region on your Mac's screen and if it shows food, you can get nutrition details - image credit: AppleI admit I have sometimes taken a photo of my Mac's screen and used Visual Intelligence on my iPhone to find out what I'm looking at. But as of macOS Golden Gate, I no longer need to do that because the Mac has Visual Intelligence built in.Apple's Sebastien Marineau-Mes, vice president of Intelligent System Experience Engineering, announced this during the WWDC 2026 keynote. But frustratingly, all he then said was that you could use it with "a dedicated keyboard shortcut." Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

Everything New in iOS 27.2 Beta 1
Apple surprised us with the first beta of iOS 27.2 today instead of releasing an iOS 27.1 beta. Apple likely went straight to iOS 27.2 to keep iPhone Duo code under wraps for now, since we already know the iPhone Duo will ship with iOS 27.1 when it comes out in October.
This beta includes Apple's revamped Health app, new languages for Siri AI, and a handful of other useful tweaks.
Revamped Health App
The iOS 27.2 beta includes the redesigned Health app Apple showed off at its September iPhone event. The new app is organized into three main tabs: Insights, Longevity, and Browse.
Insights includes your most recent and relevant health info, such as vitals, sleep score, heart rate, and Activity Rings. Longevity shows your health data over time, offering up a Health Age calculated from activity level, VO2 max, sleep time, and other metrics.

The Health Age feature uses in-app assessments that take advantage of the iPhone's camera. You c

Apple executive chairman Tim Cook is expected to attend a White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, reports Bloomberg.
Cook stepped down as Apple CEO and transitioned to executive chairman on September 1, with John Ternus taking over. Part of Cook's new role includes engaging with policymakers around the world.
U.S. President Donald Trump invited Cook, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, among others. The dinner will be held next week during Xi's visit to Washington.

DRAM pricing will mean more iPhone price hikes in 2027, no relief through 2028
Apple has agreed to DRAM pricing at $2 per Gb in the new year, up from $1.50 today. With spiking demand and supply struggling to catch up, things are going to get much worse before they get better.AI-driven RAM shortages continueFormer Apple CEO Tim Cook called the AI-driven RAM shortages a "100-year flood" that would inevitably lead to product price increases. Those price increases came for nearly every existing product but the iPhone, but then a $100 increase spread across the existing iPhone lineup in September.A social media post from user @SemiconductorsX shared supply chain data that suggests things will only get worse from here. Apple already pays $1.50 per Gb of DRAM, and it was quoted for 2027 memory from Samsung at $2.00 per Gb. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

iOS 27 Notification Center issue persists from beta to public release
Apple's iOS 27 includes a bug that can make your iPhone temporarily unresponsive, but it only if you go out of your way to trigger it.iOS 27 features a Notification Center bug. While the iOS 27 update refined Apple's Liquid Glass aesthetic, the software also brought with it an apparent user interface bug. Quickly toggling and switching between the Control Center and Notification Center can seemingly make devices unresponsive. In essence, the bug needs to be triggered deliberately by quickly opening the Notification Center, then immediately activating the Control Center. Unless you're testing animations or how well iOS 27 runs on your iPhone, there's no point in repeatedly switching between the two UI elements like this.
