AT&T to Acquire Prepaid Carrier Leap Wireless/Cricket for $15/Share [iOS Blog]
AT&T has agreed to acquire Leap Wireless, the parent company of prepaid U.S. wireless carrier Cricket, for $15/share -- roughly $1.2 billion in cash, plus the $2.8 billion in net debt that the company holds. AT&T to buy Leap Wireless for $15 per share
AT&T dropped an interesting bit of news this afternoon with the announcement that it'll purchase Leap Wireless in its entirety at a price of $15 per share. For many, Leap is better known by its consumer-facing brand, Cricket, a prepaid wireless provider that holds nearly 5 million subscribers. In exchange, AT&T will acquire Leap's customers, retail stores and network licenses, which operate within the PCS and AWS bands.

Square Enix Reverses Course on 'Deus Ex' Anti-Jailbreak Code
Yesterday it was reported that users who purchased the new game Deus Ex: The Fall were unable to properly play the game on jailbroken devices because of an anti-piracy measure. Users were prevented from firing any guns, a key part of the game. Today, Square Enix has apologized for not properly communicating that the game would not work on jailbroken devices and has announced that it will rectify the issue in a future software update, Eurogamer reports.

Microsoft sets new hardware certification requirements for Windows 8.1
Just a month or so before Windows 8.1 gets sent to OEMs and the Redmond giant has helpfully provided new hardware certification requirements for them to meet. Parenting Tip: Photographing your children with your iPhone
As a parent, I think the iPhone is a fantastic camera. Although it doesn't have the optics of a DSLR, it's always in my pocket, ready to snap a photo at a moment's notice. My children are my favorite subject, but I must admit that they are a challenge to photograph. Kids don't sit still, and the iPhone just isn't good enough to freeze motion like a DSLR, especially when I'm trying to snag a photo inside my dimly it house. Because of this camera limitation and my very active kids, a lot of my iPhone photos come out blurred. Over time, this Mom photographer has learned a few tips and tricks that help increase the odds that I'll capture a photo to last a lifetime. New MacBook Air woe: unstable volume settings
The recently updated Haswell-based 2013 MacBook Air is an incredibly popular line of laptops, but has unfortunately had its share of birthing pains. First, users complained of not being able to connect consistently with Wi-Fi networks. Now Apple support boards are filling with complaints about volume settings that vary all over the map while watching videos.

Einbrecher stiehlt iPhone und lässt Galaxy-Smartphone zurück
Anhand des Überwachungsvideos und weil sein Samsung Galaxy unter zerbrochenen Eingangsscheiben gefunden wurde, konnte die Polizei einen Räuber identifizieren, der eine Reihe von iPhones gestohlen haben soll. Offenbar hat ein Einbrecher in der Eile des Gefechts sein eigenes Smartphone am Ort des Geschehens vergessen und wurde darüber nun mit dem Raub mehrerer iPhones in einem Ladengeschäft von DMW Wireless in Springfield, Virginia, überführt. Der 25-jährige Travis M. soll im Februar den Überfall auf das Ladengeschäft in Virginia unternommen haben, und wurde nun inhaftiert, wie die Washington Post berichtet. Hulu off the market: Fox, Disney and NBC to maintain ownership
Well, we've been waiting to hear who would wind up purchasing the struggling Hulu, and now we know -- nobody! Instead the service will see an infusion of cash totaling $750 million from its current owners. Hulu has actively courted new owners on multiple occasions, and it seemed as if this time a deal was imminent. Both Yahoo and DirecTV were in the running allegedly but, for whatever reason, Fox, NBC and Disney found their offers lacking.

AirPort-Update für iOS und OS X
Apple hat in der Nacht auf heute das «AirPort-Dienstprogramm 6.3 für Mac» sowie das «AirPort-Dienstprogramm» für iOS aktualisiert. Electric scooter shares info via iPhone dock
When it comes to iPhone connectivity, modern cars offer a wealth of options ranging from music syncing to navigation tools, but plugging your iPhone into a moped is something entirely different. As CNET reports, Tokyo's Terra Motors plans to create just that, and the company is betting that its new bike will be a hit.
The modest two-wheeled ride is called the A4000i. What it lacks in a flashy moniker it more than makes up for in iPhone friendliness. The bike features a docking bay for your Apple smartphone right between the handlebars and once plugged in, the bike uses the phone to display information such as milage and how much charge is left in the all-electric moped's batteries.

«One Microsoft»: Microsoft präsentiert neue Firmen-Strategie
Microsoft hat am Donnerstag den mit Spannung erwarteten Konzernumbau offiziell vorgestellt. Durch den Konzernumbau versucht Microsoft, zu einer enger verwobenen Einheit zu werden. Die Firma soll nicht mehr als Ansammlung verschiedenster Sparten verstanden werden, sondern als ein Unternehmen. Demzufolge steht der Umbau auch unter dem Motto «One Microsoft».
Künftig werden die beiden Plattformen «Windows Phone» und «Windows» von derselben Gruppe von Ingenieuren entwickelt. Zu dieser Sparte gehören nicht nur die beiden Betriebssysteme, sondern beispielsweise auch die Xbox-Plattform. Die Führung dieses Team wird von Manager Terry Myerson übernommen.
Die Hardware-Sparte von Microsoft, welche für die Entwicklung des Surfaces, der Spielekonsole Xbox und dem PC-Zubehör verantwortlich ist, wird künftig von Julie Larson-Green geleitet.

Nokia Lumia 1020 im Vergleich zu den Vorgängern 808 Pure View und N8

Keine Frage, mit dem Lumia 1020 ist Nokia mal wieder eine kleine Sensation gelungen. 41 Megapixel sind eine Ansage. Auch wenn ich mich gut daran erinnere wie Nokia früher immer betont hat, Megapixel sind nur Schall und Rauch. Im Vergleich der Kameraboliden von Nokia, dem neuen Lumia 1020, dem 808 Pureview und dem N8 zeigt sich die Entwicklung sehr schön. Der 1/1,5-Zoll BSI Sensor ist etwas kleiner als der 808 1/1,2 Sensor, aber um einiges größer als der 1/1,83-Zoll 12 Megapixel Sensor im schon betagten N8.

Bioshock Infinite für Mac deutet sich auf Steam an
Wie bei Max Payne 3 anfangs ist jetzt auch Bioshock Infinite schon in der “Mac-Spiele-Bibliothek” verfügbar. Ich habe das Spiel für Windows gekauft, aber jetzt taucht es auch in der Liste der unter OS X verfügbaren Spiele auf.
Der Download ist nach 5 Sekunden “abgeschlossen” und das Spiel nicht starbar. Lange kann es jetzt jedoch nicht mehr dauern, in wenigen Wochen können sich also auch alle Mac-Gamer über diesen Kracher freuen.

Globaler PC-Markt: Absatzrückgang verlangsamt sich
Die beiden Unternehmen Gartner und IDC haben in dieser Woche die Zahlen für die globalen PC-Verkäufe im zweiten Quartal 2013 veröffentlicht. Die PC-Verkäufe sind gemäss den Schätzungen beider Unternehmen um 11 Prozent auf 76 Millionen Geräte zurückgegangen. Damit setzt sich der Rückgang des PC-Absatzes, welcher seit fünf Quartalen andauert, unvermindert fort. Im Vergleich zu den Quartalen davor konnte der Rückgang aber etwas gedämpft werden.
Zum ersten Mal in der PC-Geschichte dominiert mit Lenovo ein chinesisches Unternehmen den globalen PC-Markt. Allerdings konnte sich auch Lenovo nicht dem allgemeinen Branchentrend entziehen und musste kleine Einbussen bei der Anzahl der verkauften Geräte verkraften. Per 1. Juli 2013 hat Sunrise den Schweizer Mobilfunkanbieter Lebara übernommen. «Lebara» hat sich auf günstige Auslandsgespräche spezialisiert. Zusammen mit der Sunrise-Marke Yallo werde Sunrise nun, wie das Unternehmen schreibt, zur «klaren Nummer eins für Prepaid-Angebote mit Schwerpunkt auf kostengünstige Auslandsgespräche und -datendienste». Wie viel sich Sunrise die Übernahme des Schweizer Ablegers des englischen Unternehmens kosten liess, ist nicht bekannt. Die beiden Parteien haben darüber Stillschweigen vereinbart.

Google's not done shuttering wares this month, apparently, as the local recommendation service Alfred is headed for the digital cemetery on July 19th. Infinity Blade Dungeons Officially Shut Down [iOS Blog]
Following the February closure of Impossible Studios, Chair co-founder Donald Mustard revealed during a podcast (via IGN) that the Infinity Blade Dungeons project the studio was working on has now been officially canceled. Recent Menu lets you find recently-used files quickly
If you open and close many files throughout the course of a day, at some point you may forget what you named a file or even which program you used to create or open a file. Recent Menu from developer Tim Schroeder addresses this annoyance with a menu item app.
Most programs include an Open Recent command in the File menu, which allows you to easily locate a file on which you worked in the past few days. The number of items in a recent list depends on how many files you opened and how you set the program's preferences. Most probably each of your apps has a different number of recently opened files that it shows, but Recent Menu shows you all the files and folders you accessed, depending on how you set it up.

Microsoft Forced to Slash Surface RT Prices Despite Vigorous Anti-iPad Ad Campaign
Microsoft is planning to drop the prices of its Surface RT tablets by $150, reports The Verge. The lower prices, which will go into effect on Sunday July 14, are likely the result of lackluster sales. Microsoft has reportedly sold just 1.5 million tablets since the Surface RT and Pro were released back in October of 2012 and February of 2013, respectively, with 400,000 of those being the Surface RT. In contrast, Apple sold 19.5 million iPads during the first three months of 2013. HP experienced similarly poor sales with its TouchPad, which was heavily discounted and then discontinued.

Analysts report Verizon could owe Apple up to $14 billion for iPhones
The Japanese mobile company NTT DoCoMo has held off from selling the iPhone reportedly due to the contract that Apple requires sellers to sign. Now thanks to a report from Bloomberg and analysis from Moffett Research LLC regarding Verizon's obligations to the company their move might make a little more sense.

Best Buy Announces Special Two-Day iPad Trade-In Program [iOS Blog]
Best Buy will be accepting iPad trade-ins this Saturday and Sunday, according to AllThingsD. The company is accepting 2nd or 3rd-generation iPads in exchange for gift cards starting at $200 -- though in some cases Best Buy is offering larger amounts. Apple Investigating Indonesian Tin Production for Illegal Mining
Apple has updated the Supplier Responsibility page on its website addressing concerns over the illegal mining of tin in Indonesia. The company is funding a new task group with the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) to determine if its suppliers are getting tin from illegal mining operations. Bangka Island, Indonesia, is one of the world’s principal tin-producing regions. Recent concerns about the illegal mining of tin from this region prompted Apple to lead a fact-finding visit to learn more.
