Facebook-Messenger auf iPhone mit Zuckerbergs Hund “Beast” als Sticker Pack
Kostenlos gibt es in der Facebook-Messenger-App für iPhone und iPod touch nun auch das Sticker Pack “Beast”. Es handelt sich um eine Sammlung von Clipart, die an Mark Zuckerbergs Haustier erinnern sollen. Verfügbarkeit des aktuellen Mac Pro verringert sich

Microsoft confirms Internet Explorer 11 is coming to Windows 7

OS X 10.8.5 – Beta Build 12F13 an Entwickler ausgeliefert
Apple hat Mac OS X 10.8.5 in einer neuen Beta-Version an seine Mac-Entwickler ausgegeben. Die Build 12F13 erscheint nur eine Woche nach der Veröffentlichung des ersten Pre-Release. Über das Developer-Center online, oder aber über den Mac App Store können Entwickler die neue Build von OS X 10.8.5 herunterladen. 12F13 enthält keine bekannten Änderungen. Apple weist Entwickler weiterhin an, sich auf Wi-Fi, die Grafik, das Aufwachen aus dem Ruhezustand, das Anschauen von PDF-Dokumenten sowie die allgemeine Zugänglichkeit zu achten. Google Earth update brings Street View and streamlined interface to iOS
Google's taking iOS version of its Earth mapping app up to 7.1. The update brings a few new features, including, most notably, the addition of its Street View imagery -- following a similar update to the Android version. Also on the docket are improved transit, walking and biking directions, which can be viewed in 3D. In iOS 7 können Apps auf iPhone und iPad auf neue Kamerafunktionen zugreifen, um zu erkennen, ob die Person auf dem Bild lächelt oder blinzelt. Brian Hogan, the man who sold the iPhone 4 to Gizmodo, speaks up
Back in April of 2010, the tech world was all a flutter when Gizmodo managed to get its hands on and post photos of what would later be called the iPhone 4. For a company that prides itself on secrecy, the pre-release photos of the iPhone 4 were a major embarrassment.
If you recall, an Apple engineer mistakenly left an iPhone 4 device he was testing at a bar whereupon it came into the possession of a 21-year-old named Brian Hogan who attempted to hock the device to any tech blog that was willing to pay for it. Gizmodo turned out to be the "lucky" winner, paying Hogan $5,000 for the device.

Google Earth iOS app gets Street View, better directions
Google has updated the iOS edition of Google Earth to v7.1.1, making a few important changes. The first is the integration of Street View, a feature previously limited to Google Maps. People can access Street View in Earth dragging the appropriate icon onto any blue-lined road; double-tapping moves the view further down a road.

Canada's TELUS, Rogers to offer cellular iPad 4, iPad mini directly
Mac fans in the Great White North just got a new option for picking up an iPad 4 or iPad mini. Canadian carriers TELUS and Rogers have announced they will offer both the iPad 4 and iPad Mini directly to their customers for use on their networks. The models could previously be used under the contracts but this is first time the carriers are offering them directly.
Rogers has announced clients will be able to add the devices to their preexisting data plans. TELUS hasn't announced if subscribers will have that option, but both companies will offer separate, contract-free data plans for the iPads.

The State of Patter
Sometimes I don’t know what to think of App.net and Patter and the whole fragmentation of feature sets and implementation styles or the incomplete mess some clients offer. Patter is a perfect example for that: Started as a website it offered the creation of chat rooms. You could create public rooms for a specific topic and private rooms. Public rooms could be used by everyone, private rooms only after adding the username to the room. Since you can easily add and remove persons to and from a private room it’s a nice alternative to “official" private messages of App.net (or Apples iMessage), where you cannot change the recipients after having started a discussion.
But after months coming and going there is little progress and there is no client to “get it all". Look at iOS: We have beautiful clients like Riposte and Felix with more or less no Patter support at all. New Photos Show Progress on Woodbridge Apple Store, Flooding at Bellevue Store [Mac Blog]
A MacRumors reader has sent in photos depicting a new Apple Store that is being built at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge, Virginia. The store, which is located next to a Starbucks, will be housed in a 6,878 sq. ft space. Moody platformer Limbo coming to iOS next week
Limbo is a critically acclaimed and very artistic platforming game that arrived on XBLA a few years ago, and has since arrived on PS3 and PC. It's by a company called Playdead, and it's a black-and-white short tale about a little boy in search of his sister. Perhaps this post should have been titled "The Beard looks at OS X Mavericks," since the subject is about an article written by veteran Apple blogger Jim Dalrymple on his Loop Insight blog. Dalrymple's opinions are highly valued by Apple, and he received a 13-inch MacBook Pro and a copy of OS X Mavericks to evaluate for the blog. JetBlue and American Airlines Giving iPad Electronic Flight Bags to All Pilots
Both JetBlue and American Airlines have announced they are issuing iPads to all pilots to replace the heavy paper manuals in flight phases. American says it is the first major commercial carrier to deploy Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) throughout their entire fleet, and the airline has decided to discontinue paper revisions of pilot flight manuals. The airline estimates it will save more than 400,000 gallons of fuel per year, worth $1.2 million at current prices. Game updates today: The Blockheads, Heroes of Order and Chaos, and Borderlands 2 on Mac
There are a number of big game updates today on both Mac and iOS that are worth picking up if you happen to have the apps installed. First up, the excellent The Blockheads has a big multiplayer update coming, which will allow players to host multiplayer worlds with up to 32 people (which means 128 possible blockheads) in a single world at a time. The update also comes with a free Mac-based server app, which can host worlds for various devices and save items, structures, and even queued actions. There's also lots of new content to find, and a nice map view that provides a nice overview of everything. Developer David Frampton tells us that the server app is being developed for Windows and Linux, too, and the Android version of the app should be on that store soon.

Neue Kinect ist ab sofort im Developer Kit für Entwickler vorbestellbar
Microsoft bringt die mit der Xbox One vorgestellte neue Kinect wie schon den Vorgänger auch für den PC. Allgemein verfügbar sein wird sie wohl erst 2014, Entwickler können sich aber ab sofort bis zum 31. Juli für ein Developer Kit zum Preis von 400 Dollar bewerben. Dafür bekommen sie (falls die Bewerbung akzeptiert wird) eine Alpha-Version der Hardware und später die Release-Version, Zugriff auf das SDK und die APIs und Unterstützung per Webcast und private Foren durch das Kinect for Windows-Team. Pioneer hat auf der CE Week gleich drei neue Audio/Video-Receiver vorgestellt. Die drei ähneln sich ziemlich, bemerkenswert ist aber der SC-79, denn er ist das erste Gerät seiner Art, das HDBaseT unterstützt. Ein großer Kritikpunkt beim Umgang mit Windows 8 auf Geräten mit hochauflösenden Displays ist die unpraktische, weil so kleinteilige und nicht ausreichend skalierte Darstellung von Microsofts Betriebssystem. Das wird sich mit Windows 8.1 ändern. Der Start Screen, der Desktop und auch die hauseigenen Apps werden in der neuen Version auf 200 Prozent dargestellt und nicht mehr wie bislang auf 150 Prozent. The majority of iPad owners prefer landscape over portrait
Touch publishing company OnSwipe has released its first OnSwipe Sage report that details how users interact with the iPad. The report surveyed the habits of 127 million iPad users and this is what it found:
41.2% of iPad users prefer portrait mode, while 59.8% preferred landscape mode.
The five most popular US cities for iPad usage are New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and Houston.
10 PM local time is the most popular time for iPad usage.
The top search engine used on the iPad is Google, followed by Yahoo, then Bing.

WearIT brings its prototype smart watch to CE Week, we go eyes-on
It'd be hard to go hands-on with the WearIT smart watch given that it's still very much a prototype and its touchscreen is well, it's not enabled yet. Back in 2010, photos of a prototype iPhone 4 appeared on Gizmodo nearly two months before the device was officially unveiled by Apple. JetBlue invites iPads into the cockpit
Another airline has just announced that iPads will become part of standard cockpit equipment for its fleet. Long Island City, NY-based JetBlue will be equipping pilots with iPads and three core apps to lighten their load and help them in getting passengers to their destinations safely and on time.
The apps help pilots look at real-time weather, let them do their pre-flight planning, and provide access to digital airport and aircraft charts. The real-time weather app will receive data via satellite Wi-Fi provided by the LiveTV systems on each aircraft, providing what JetBlue refers to as "the fastest access in the air."

The final shipping version of iOS 7 may be months away, but that's not keeping Apple from revving up the marketing engines. The company has published two new pages on its website to tout the advantages of the new OS in both education and business.
On both the education and business pages, Apple's emphasis is on mobile device management (MDM) and single sign on. Foursquare has released a new update for its Android and iOS apps that allows users to check in their friends. When checking in, users now have the option to add who they are with from a list of friends. Anyone added will then be sent a notification asking for permission to check them in, and approving once will enable the feature indefinitely. A notification will always be provided when being checked in by a friend, and a delete button can be used to get rid of any unwanted check ins. In addition, the update also adds a number of new filters in Explore that can be used to filter searches.

Sprint launching Samsung ATIV S Neo with unlimited LTE for $150 after rebate
There may not be too many mobile-focused surprises at Microsoft Build, as Sprint has just let slip its two biggest pieces of news. In addition to HTC's 8XT, the company will carry Samsung's latest Windows Phone 8 handset, the ATIV S Neo at some point in the near future. Apple has launched its official Russian online store, offering Russian customers the opportunity to directly buy iPhones, iPads, iPods and more. In addition to a full product lineup, the store also offers customer support.

American Airlines ersetzt Karten und Handbücher mit iPads
Die US-Fluggesellschaft «American Airlines» hat in dieser Woche angekündigt, dass in Zukunft die Papier-Karten und Handbücher der Piloten vollständig durch iPads ersetzt werden. Nachdem das iPad im April in der Boeing 757 und 767 getestet worden ist, hat die US-Luftfahrtbehörde FAA die Erlaubnis erteilt, das Apple Tablet in allen Maschinen von American Airlines einsetzen zu können. Damit ist das Unternehmen die erste grosse Fluggesellschaft, welche den Piloten alle Dokumente auf dem iPad zur Verfügung stellt.
Apple liefert American Airlines rund 8’000 iPads, welche von den Piloten und Instruktoren während allen Phasen des Fluges verwendet werden können. Um den Anforderungen der US-Luftfahrtbehörde gerecht zu werden, müssen nun alle Dokumente digitalisiert und für das iPad aufbereitet werden. Digg starts rolling out its Reader app to beta users
Digg announced on its blog that its new Reader service will be available to the public on a rolling basis starting today. The beta version of the service will target Google Reader users looking to jump ship before the Google RSS service shuts down next week.

IDC: iPhone-Marktanteil sinkt in Europa, Samsung wächst weiter

Die IDC hat die neusten Zahlen zu Smartphone-Verkäufen in Europa veröffentlicht. Demnach sind die Marktanteile des iPhones von 25 Prozent im ersten Quartal des letzten Jahres auf 20 Prozent dieses Jahr gefallen. Im gleichen Zeitraum gingen die Marktanteile von Samsung kräftig nach oben, der koreanische Konzern konnte sich von 39 Prozent auf 45 Prozent verbessern. Komplettumbau bei Microsoft?
AllThingsD will aus «gut informierten Kreisen» erfahren haben, dass Microsoft vor einem Komplettumbau steht. Microsofts CEO Steve Ballmer will angeblich am 1. Juli seine Pläne für einen Komplettumbau des Konzerns einem ausgewählten Kreis von Managern erläutern.
Welche genauen Veränderungen auf die Mitarbeiter von Microsoft zukommen werden, konnte der Insider nicht sagen. Xbox Music: Microsoft startet nächste Woche seinen Musikstreaming-Dienst auch im Netz
Bisher war Microsofts Musikstreamingdienst Xbox Music nur via Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows Phone 8 und der Xbox 360 zu haben, ab nächste Woche soll es ihn auch plattformunabhängig im Netz geben. Das hat Microsoft zur heute startenden Entwicklerkonferenz Build bekanntgegeben. Ab nächste Woche gibt es dann also via Browser die mehr als 30 Millionen Songs, wahlweise wie bei Spotify werbefinanziert oder mit Xbox Music Pass für 9,99 Euro im Monat. Apple-Thunderbolt-Display-Lagerbestände leeren sich
Einem Bericht von «MacTrast» zufolge haben sich die Lagerbestände der Thunderbolt Displays bei einigen Händlern in den letzten Tagen deutlich reduziert. Während einige Geschäfte von stabilen Lagerbeständen sprechen, haben andere nur noch wenige Geräte an Lager.
Der Händer «Adorama» gab MacTrast beispielsweise die Auskunft, dass das Thunderbolt Display im Moment nicht mehr verfügbar sei. Man sei gemäss dem Adorama-Kundendienst angewiesen worden, keine neuen Bestellungen mehr anzunehmen und das Display wurde von der internen Bestellliste gelöscht. Study of iPad user data reveals quirks, dominance, habits
Mobile usage analysis firm Onswipe, as part of a slideshow celebrating its second year of operation, revealed some further analysis of user data from iPads that in some cases reveal interesting habits and in others reinforce facts already known from other end-user studies. According to the analysis drawn from its 127 million users over two years, iPad users prefer landscape to portrait, email as the most popular method of sharing, and the peak usage time is around 10PM during the early days of the week, among other factoids.

Gartner: Apple's two OS platforms will overtake MS sales in 2015
Predictions from Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi, a research vice president and the market analysis firm, will startle long-time computer users: essentially, Microsoft's long reign at the top of the technological heap is over. Dropbox for iOS gets new swipe, share features
Dropbox just released a pretty sweet update for its iOS app. The most noticeable new feature of Dropbox 2.3 is the ability to swipe on any file or folder to reveal a host of options for it, including the ability to share, move, delete, or favorite the item. Another great new feature is the ability to create a new folder in your Dropbox right on your iOS device. Then, using the new "move" option, you can place other items inside that folder -- all without accessing Dropbox on your desktop.

IDC: iPhone share fell five percent in Europe, holds on to 2nd place
According to market analysts IDC, European smartphone shipments have fallen 4.2 percent in Q1-- the first drop in some years. The weakness in the marketplace is affecting all manufacturers, but Apple was particularly hard-hit, losing five percent of its share -- mostly to Sony and Samsung, both of whom saw shipments rise by comparison. It is worth noting that shipments do not directly equal sales, but fewer shipments do indicate a drop in demand -- which for Apple is to be expected with the iPhone 5S expected to arrive later this summer.

Firefox's latest update includes a special feature for OS X
Mozilla's great Firefox browser has been updated to version 22. In addition to support for 3D gaming, video and voice calls, and file sharing without the need for any extra plugins, the team has added something for OS X users. Whenever you download a file, the progress bar will show up right on the icon in your Dock. That's fun, and it means you can monitor the file's progress, even when the regular meter isn't on your screen.

Gigabit-WLAN: Mac OS X hat Probleme mit 802.11ac

Skitch updates again, with a faster screen shot process
Evernote sends word that it has updated its Skitch app yet again, this time providing a big benefit to one of the most-used functions in the app. The Screen Snap feature has been streamlined, which means you can grab pictures from your Mac easier and quicker than ever. As far as I know, that's what most people use Skitch for anyway, so it should be much appreciated.
