Twitter for iPhone 4.3 available for your tweeting pleasure
There's a new update to the official Twitter app for iPhone. Twitter for iPhone 4.3 (free) arrived today with a number of new features and bug fixes that should make life with the app a lot easier.
According to the update notes, Twitter for iPhone 4.3 includes:
Expanded Tweets -- when you view Tweet details containing links to partner websites, you can now see content previews, view images, play videos, and more (rolling out gradually)
Enhanced experience around selected events with the bets Tweets and photos from those involved

Nachdem Apple den Streit mit Proview Technology ad acta gelegt hat, beginnt man nun den bislang vernachlässigten chinesischen Markt zu beliefern. Am 20. Juli soll das neue iPad dann auch im Fernen Osten erhältlich sein.

Airbus creates electronic flight bag apps for pilots with iPads
We've heard about iPads being given to airline pilots before. Because airline pilots usually need quick access to all sorts of information and documentation, an iPad often ends up being cheaper and easier than handling and updating all of the usual paper documents that used to go into any given airplane's cockpit storage, from various manuals about plane controls to all of the logs and information that pilots need to keep while flying. And now, another airline has taken the leap into Apple's tablet. Airbus is now using iPads in its "electronic flight bags."

Sony's upcoming ST26i smartphone could hit the market under Xperia J name

Ouya's $99 Android-based gaming console meets Kickstarter goal: $950k in under 12 hours
The gaming public at large has spoken. In less than 12 hours, Yves Behar's Android-based Ouya gaming console has reached its lofty funding goal of $950,000 on Kickstarter. To refresh your memory, the $99 system (which was only $95 for 1,000 swift early adopters) packs a Tegra 3 CPU, 8GB of storage, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a USB 2.0 port and an SD card slot -- that price also grants you a single controller with a touch sensor. New photos have emerged depicting an alleged engineering sample of the next-generation iPhone. The object is an all-metal block said to be "straight from a factory in China," and snapped by a "trusted source inside the Apple supply chain." Next-gen iPod nano could revert to rectangular shape
Apple is at work on a new iPod nano design that will abandon the square, watch-like shape used in the past couple of years, according to Macotakara. The Japanese site quotes a "reliable Chinese source," who indicates that the new Nano will switch to rectangular format similar to the iPhone and iPod touch. This includes the addition of a Home button; the claims are based on the source's access to a leaked case including a hole in the right spot for a Home button.

Google Drops OS X Leopard support for Chrome 22 dev release

Autodesk to roll out Scaleform for mobile development
Autodesk today announced new versions of its Scaleform middleware targeted at mobile developers. Scaleform provides a means of producing user-interface environments as well as 2D games. City of San Francisco stops buying Macs without EPEAT certification
Yesterday TUAW reported on Apple's withdrawal from the EPEAT green electronics registry, along with a note that federal, state, and local governments might balk at buying Macs as a result. The City of San Francisco, CA has announced that letters will be sent to all 50 city agencies over the next two weeks notifying them that Apple desktops and laptops will no longer qualify for procurement.
Will this have an impact on Apple's bottom line? Well, in 2012 the City purchased a total of $3.8 million on desktops and laptops -- only $45,579 of that amount was for Apple products

Jason Citron picks up funding with new gaming company Phoenix Guild
Jason Citron was one of the iPhone's first big name developers. He and partner Danielle Cassley created a game called Aurora Feint way back in the early days of the App Store, and while that game didn't do as well as hoped, the duo and their backers eventually catapulted that title into its own social gaming platform called OpenFeint. That platform was later acquired by Japanese social network GREE, and Citron left the company that he originally founded last September.

Apple seeds iCloud Control Panel 2.0 beta for Windows
Apple has begun seeding an iCloud Control Panel 2.0 beta to developers, reports note. The release adds important features to the Control Panel, which is essential for iCloud support on Windows; the finished release should ensure that Windows users are on par with Mac and iOS users. It's being called kind of a Netflix for magazines, and the description is apt. Five top U.S. publishers have gotten together to provide an iPad app that lets you read a great variety of magazines at a price of U.S. $9.99-$14.99 per month. San Francisco to halt Mac buys in wake of EPEAT issue
San Francisco will soon stop buying Macs for the city's 50 agencies, according to Department of Environment officials speaking with the Wall Street Journal. The officials say that within the next two weeks it will send out letters to agencies explaining that Macs "no longer qualify" for city money, following Apple's request to have 39 desktops, monitors, and notebooks pulled from a list of EPEAT-certified products. Workers will still be able to buy Macs, but only through a process described as "long" and "onerous."

iQue Repair has announced the launch of a new insurance plan for iPhones, iPads, and iPods. Dubbed iSmart Elite, the 2-year protection plan offers unlimited repairs and no deductibles at a cost of $89. Apple has won the rights to a US patent on its "iTravel" concept, notes AppleInsider. Boutique hotel equips guests with iPhones
A lot of individuals are dropping land lines and using an iPhone as their sole telecommunications device, but this is (as far as we know) a first. The Opus hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia has done away with the traditional hotel room phone and is equipping guests with iPhones.
The hotel is apparently hoping that foreign visitors, especially those from just south of the Canadian border, will like carrying the phones with them as they won't be hit with international roaming charges. Google could pay $22.5M fine for violating Apple users' privacy
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is on the verge of fining Google for the record amount of US$22.5 million as a settlement for violating the privacy of users of Apple's Safari browser.
The fine comes after the Wall Street Journal contacted Google about a practice it discovered where special code was used to trick Safari into letting Google monitor users who had blocked tracking. Google said that the tracking of Apple users was inadvertent, but the actions of the firm were contrary to statements published in Google help documents that assured Apple users that Safari's privacy settings could be used to block undesired tracking. Apple to sell the iPad in China starting July 20
Apple announced on Tuesday that the new iPad will go on sale in China starting July 20. The launch of the tablet device was delayed by a trademark lawsuit filed by Chinese company Proview. Proview claimed it had the legal right to the iPad name in China, even though a division of the company sold the trademark to Apple several years ago. China ist größter Smartphone-Markt – Apple mit 17,3 Prozent
Der chinesische Smartphone-Markt ist mittlerweile der größte der Welt: Im vergangenen Quartal kauften sich 33,1 Millionen Chinesen ein entsprechendes Handy, in den USA – dem zweitgrößten Markt – waren es “nur” 25 Millionen. Intel snaps up 10 percent of chip fab machine maker ASML
Hoping to speed the adoption of the next generation of chip-manufacturing processes, Intel will spend more than $4 billion to buy up to 15 percent of Dutch silicon wafer etch machine producer ASML. Intel will initially acquire 10 percent in the equipment supplier, and add an additional five percent if it wins shareholder approval for $3.1 billion in stock price. Dotcom extradition hearing postponed until Spring 2013
The pending extradition hearing for MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom has been postponed to next year. The hearing, which was originally scheduled to take place on August 6 was delayed by a New Zealand judge until March 2013. Mountain Lion-compatible apps cleared for Mac App Store
Following the release of the Mountain Lion's Golden Master version earlier today, Apple has officially opened the Mac App Store for optimized OS X 10.8 apps to be submitted for review with an email to developers (seen below). The company says they can also submit iOS apps that take advantage of the now-cross-platform Game Center, one of several iOS features that is now making its way to the Mac. Cocos2D 2.0 available now
After months of testing, the team behind the latest version of the extremely popular Cocos2D game engine for iOS has released version 2.0 of the framework, and it's available for download right now. The framework isn't completely compatible with version 1.0, so devs currently using the previous version on a big project might not want to upgrade in the current build. But the new version is quite fast, includes support for OpenGL ES 2.0, and much simpler code for setting up and maintaining lots and lots of on-screen sprites.

Carriers face big surge in cellphone surveillance requests, raise a few alarm bells
Color us unsurprised that US law enforcers would push hard for surveillance access. Congressman Ed Markey has published a new report on requests to cellular carriers that shows a recent rush of demand for information, including last year. NoiseFree sues Apple over iPhone sound reduction tech
California noise reduction company NoiseFree claims that Apple has pilfered its technology for use in the iPhone 4 and other devices. According to the court filing (seen below), NoiseFree engaged in behind-closed-doors demonstrations of its technology with Apple engineers and the head of iPhone development. Apple seeds GM of Mountain Lion, Xcode 4.4 to developers
The finishing touches are being applied to the next major release of OS X, dubbed Mountain Lion or 10.8. Developers have alerted MacNN to a Golden Master (GM) seed being pushed out through the OS X Dev Center. The GM seed is for both the client version as well as Server, which features a significant re-arranging of its main features. The company also has a first seed of Lion 10.7.5 and a GM of Xcode 4.4 available.

Apple Mountain Lion Gold Master is up for the download
Last month at WWDC, Apple promised that consumers would be able to get their grubby paws on Mountain Lion come July. It looks like the latest version of OS X is one step closer to being fully-baked, with seeds of the Gold Master hitting the company's developer download site today. The operating system upgrade will run you $20 when it's ready for us non-developers. In the meantime, here's a hands-on with the beta version of the OS.

Senna This documentary about the life of legendary Formula One driver Ayrton Senna finally gets a US release on Blu-ray this week. If you haven't already watched it in theaters or on Netflix Watch Instantly then you should (trailer included after the break), as the combo of voiceovers and archived footage create a flick that should reach you whether you're a racing fan or not. One-bit Internet: The iPad is/isn't a content creation device

OS X Developer: Mountain Lion Golden Master erschienen + Facebook Developer Preview
Es ist soweit: Die finale Entwicklerversion von OS X Mountain Lion wurde kurz vor Mitternacht deutscher Zeit veröffentlicht.
Die sogenannte Golden Master entspricht in etwa der finalen Version, kleinere Fehler könnten jedoch noch auftreten.
Interessante: Unterhalb des Download-Buttons ist nun auch eine Facebook Developer Preview verfügbar:
Diese wird es nur mit Mountain Lion geben.
Die 1,1 MB große Installations-Datei rüstet den Facebook-Account in den Systemeinstellungen nach:
