Apple releases Mountain Lion gold master to developers
The gold master build of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion has been released and is available through the Apple Developer's Site now. TED launches TED Books app for iPhone, iPad
TED Conferences has released TED Books, a new app for the iPhone and iPad. The title serves as a storefront for enhanced educational e-books including audio, video, and social networking features. Most books are under 20,000 words, intentionally short enough to be read in as little as a single sitting.

Noise Free Wireless alleges Apple is tone deaf over sound reduction patent, files lawsuit to match
Apple faces litigation claiming that it's using patented technology all the time, often from small patent holding companies with dollar signs in their eyes. AT&T U-Verse iPad app adds more streaming video, more sports
AT&T has updated its U-Verse cable content app for iOS with more content than ever, allowing access to various video content, information like sports scores, and even the ability to share viewing habits over Twitter and Facebook to its users. In addition to all of that new material, the iPhone and iPod touch versions of the app will now work like digital remote controls (though the iPad version already had this functionality), allowing you to control your TV and box right through your iOS device.
It sounds great, obviously, for anyone currently using the U-Verse app. The free update is available for download right now.

RealMyst now on the App Store
The original Myst has been available for iOS for a while now, offering up that game's classic click-to-explore puzzles on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. Now, Cyan Worlds has released realMyst, a 3D re-imagining of the old school title that features the mysterious island of Myst.
Unfortunately, the game's only for the iPad 2 or the current iPad (iPad 3), so you'll need one of those devices to play the game (presumably because the graphical fidelity just needs that much power). MIT researchers develop chip that can harvest energy from multiple sources
We've seen a number of different devices that can harvest energy from various sources, but none quite like this new chip developed by a team of MIT researchers. It's able to harvest energy from three different sources simultaneously: light, heat and vibrations. 24U Software has released updated for SimpleDialog and SimpleFile, two of its FileMarker Pro plug-ins. The SimpleDialog plug-in provides a number of tools for creating custom dialogs with an unlimited amount of text and buttons. The latest release adds extended support for styled text in dialogs, and improves compatibility with both MAc OS X Lion and FileMaker Pro 12. Apple removes EPEAT green certification, could lose government customers
Apple has done an increasingly good job of creating environmentally-friendly products, but the company did something the other day that probably has both environmentalists and some customers scratching their heads. The company has removed the EPEAT green electronics certification from its products, and won't be submitting products to the global registry for rating in the future.
Reporter Joel Schectman at the Wall Street Journal says that Apple asked to have all 39 EPEAT certified devices pulled from the registry. EPEAT's CEO, Robert Frisbee, told Schectman that "They (Apple) said their design direction was no longer consistent with the EPEAT requirements." This is visible in the new MacBook P

Galaxy Tab 10.1: Samsung gewinnt vor Gericht, nicht so cool wie Apple
Die Gerichtsverfahren zwischen Apple und Samsung wird bekannterweise weltweit ausgefochten. Das heutige Schlachtfeld war ein Gerichtssaal in London, England. Am Montag entschied Richter Colin Birss, dass die Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen dem Galaxy Tab 10.1 und iPad nicht zur Verwechslung führen.
Wei Reuters berichtet, habe das Gericht zugunsten Samsungs entschieden. Während sich beide Geräte bei der Betrachtung der Fronten noch sehr ähnlich sehen, sei Samsungs Galaxy Tab sehr dünn mit eindeutigen Merkmalen auf der Rückseite.

iTry – Tag 19
So knapp vor den 1.000 Followern möchte ich noch mal anmerken, wie überrascht ich doch von den Apple-Produkten bin. Die Verarbeitung überzeugt mich völlig, egal ob iPhone, iPad oder MacBook. Das Mac OS X ist extrem spannend und das obwohl ich bisher nicht alle Funktionen nutzen konnte. Trotzdem ist Tag 19 des iTry geprägt von wehmütigen Gedanken.
Mein kleiner Mann (3 Jahre) ist völlig von dem iPad überzeugt. Während ich also telefoniere, Koche oder einfach mal entspannen will, lege ich ihm das iPad auf den Schoß und starte Lern- und Kinderbuch-Apps. Diese sind überwiegend kostenfrei, die Spielesammlung von Lego Duplo kann ich wirklich empfehlen! Grobmotorik kann damit g

New Twitter iOS app features leak
Release notes for a forthcoming update of the Twitter iOS app, v4.3, have leaked through iOS 6's redesigned App Store, according to 9to5Mac. The notes say, for instance, that content previews including images and video should be shown for tweets linking to unspecified "partner websites." Tweets about "selected events" will meanwhile be highlighted, with Twitter itself curating posts and images. In terms of notifications, people should be able to receive push alerts when a specific person has tweeted, and subtle Tweetbot-style notifications while in-app.

Noise Free Wireless creating a lot of noise over alleged Apple infringement
When you're the big target, it seems like everyone is shooting at you. Apple is now being sued by a Silicon Valley company by the name of Noise Free Wireless over alleged infringement of a patent for mobile phone noise-reduction technology.
Noise Free Wireless says that the company first showed off its patented technology to Apple at meetings in 2007 with a number of increasingly technical and confidential meetings following until 2010, when Noise Free found that Apple was going to use technology from Audience (a rival) in future products.

Code hints at possiblity of iOS Maps tech in OS X
Apple could be hoping to integrate its iOS 6 Maps technology into OS X, a recent code discovery hints. An XML file in the iOS 6 beta, altitude_manifest.xml, includes a reference to a collection of Intel-based graphics hardware, for which features like shading are toggled off. iOS devices don't use Intel graphics hardware, but Macs do, sometimes along dedicated graphics cards from NVIDIA or AMD.

MacStories has a follow-up to a Wired report that details the practice of selling access to Apple beta software. The Wired article profiles several websites that'll add your UDID to a developer account so you can download and activate iOS betas on your device. TED Books launches store, subscriptions
The TED Conference is expanding its iOS offerings with a new app that'll let users read short electronic books from the popular series of intellectual presentations. The new Ted Books app includes articles that are 20,000 words or less and can be digested in a single sitting. The platform that powers the app allows authors to create an interactive experience by embedding audio, video and social features into their books. New books are released every two weeks, and iOS owners can either buy books individually for $2.99 each or purchase a six-month subscription for $14.99. Apple has slotted into 55th place in an annual update of Fortune's Global 500 list. The ranking is based on data from the 2011 fiscal year, which in Apple's case includes $108.249 billion in revenue, with a profit of $25.922 billion. Apple is taking action against sites selling early access to the iOS 6 beta, according to MacStories. To install the beta, people must technically be registered under Apple's $99 annual iOS developer program. That fee, though, lets people configure up to 100 separate devices. Some websites have been selling UDID activations to the public, typically at a cost close to $10 per activation; that can make the scheme very lucrative, since a site only needs to sell 10 activations per account to recoup expenses, and some have been selling many times that number.

UK judge: Galaxy Tab "not as cool" as iPad
Samsung was handed a win in its ongoing battle with Apple over the Galaxy Tab 10.1, according to a report in Bloomberg. UK judge Colin Birss issued a ruling on Monday that said the Tab 10.1 does not infringe on Apple's design. The judge said customers are not likely to confuse the two devices because the Galaxy tablets "do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design." Minimalistic weather app does a few things very well
Ah, yet another weather app. There are so many, but Weather Neue is free, and rather than having a thousand features, maps, and animations, it does what it is does in a very clean, minimalistic way.
When you start the app, it grabs your location. Then it spins up your current conditions and a four-day forecast. That's it. No radar, choice of multiple cities, cloud maps, front depictions, or fancy background graphics. You get your temperature, sky conditions, humidity, wind speed and direction, plus the prediciton.
It uses an attractive Helvetica font, and the only settings are metric or US, and a choice of 4 background colors.

Ex-Nokia MeeGo team unite to create new smartphones
A team of ex-Nokia employes have joined with a group of MeeGo coders to form a new smartphone companycalled Jolla. Jolla is Finnish for 'dinghy,' which suggests that their goal to create a life raft for the stalled platform and push it forward commercially. The new organization is headed up by a former 11 year veteran of Nokia Marc Dillon who was the Principal Engineer of its Maemo OS, before it was merged with Intel's Moblin OS to create MeeGo.
