Microsoft to focus heavily on HTML5 for IE9
Internet Explorer 9 may get a beta release with a heavy HTML5 emphasis at Microsoft's MIX 2010 developer conference in mid-March, according to escaped details. Hinting that IE9 will have comprehensive support for HTML5 is a scheduled briefing at MIX 2010 titled "HTML5 Now: The Future of Web Markup Today." Opera Softwareís Molly Holzschlag will present the party and has said to expect Microsoft to bring browser storage and other HTML5 features.

Briefly: MindMaps for Google Wave, upcoming EA Mobile games
A new gadget for Google Wave has been released by CS Odessa. ConceptDraw MindWave is a free tool that can be used to map out strategies or brainstorm ideas on various topics. Through Google Wave teams can come together and collaborate on projects, adding input and suggestions. MindWave includes support for the Google Wave playback feature, meaning that users can step backwards through a map to see how it has changed over time. Users also have to option to download the map and import it into either ConceptDraw Office or ConceptDraw MindMap.

ASUS Eee PC 1015PE, 1015P and 1001PQ hands-on
Oh, you thought we were done with ASUS' new Eee PC models at CeBIT. That's cute. In addition to launching the aluminum 1018P and 1016P, ASUS has also quietly released the 1015PE and 1015P (or Diary series as it says on the units), which look to be joining the Seashell line with some minor design tweaks. The 1016PE's faux dark wood lid has a more professional look, and its shape reminds us somewhat of HP's Mini 5102. On the other hand, the 1015P has a white, softer-looking matte lid and an updated touchpad with integrated mouse buttons. ASUS: iPad is just "one big screen iPhone"
The iPad won't be anything that ASUS can't defeat, the company's systems business group VP Eric Chen said in an interview today. He argued that many had dismissed the Apple tablet as nothing but "one big screen iPhone" and that it wouldn't necessarily control its portion of the market as well as the iPhone has so far. Chen instead claimed that ASUS could do better, in part because of a previously unknown multi-device strategy.

Verizon's HTC Incredible spotted again, looking as red-accented as ever

Microsoft Pure leaked in photos: "better than Android"
The Microsoft Pure phone has leaked today in a form that confirms significant details about its interface. Looking much like renderings, the touchscreen QWERTY slider has what's clearly a panel-based interface but one distinctly different from Windows Phone 7. Project Pink QWERTY slider 'Pure' found in the wild, headed for Verizon?
There's a lot of rumbling in Project Pink land today, as Microsoft is seemingly nearing that magical time where its much-leaked Sidekick followup can finally see the light of day. Judge halts Apple, Nokia lawsuits before ITC verdict
A Delaware federal judge late yesterday temporarily froze countering Apple and Nokia lawsuits. The move puts either case on hold until the respective ITC investigations are completed and effectively leaves the ITC verdict to help decide each of the civil suits. An ITC decision would also achieve the goals of the private cases as it could lead to a product ban within the US if successful.

Analyst renews doubt on iPad production numbers
Current iPad production levels are indeed low, claims Think Equity's Vijay Rakesh. The analyst cites checks with Taiwanese manufacturers, which suggest "some minor delays" in ramping up production for the tablet. A mere 200,000 to 250,000 iPads per month are said to be possible at the moment, and production may not be able to hit 800,000 to 1 million units a month until at least April. "We believe this is just a minor hiccup in a longer-term entirely new revenue stream and product roadmap for AAPL," says Rakesh.

Der iPod- und iPhone-kompatible Radiowecker iMM178 Vibe Plus von iLuv kommt mit einem netten Gimmick für Langschläfer: Der sogenannte "Bed Shaker" rüttelt laut Pressetext auch die härtesten Langschläfer aus dem Bett. Sony's PlayStation 2 celebrates 10 years as a fallen, bygone generation of consoles looks on in envy
Dreamcast? GameCube? Xbox? They're cute and endearing to look back on now, because they really never stood a chance. Sony practically redefined what it meant to be dominant in a console generation with the PlayStation 2, which was launched on March 4, 2000 in Japan (the US got it that October), went on to sell over 140 million units, and is still going strong. Sony making PSP phone, e-reader/PSP hybrid to fight Apple?
A potentially landscape-altering leak today suggests Sony is developing two handhelds that will directly target Apple. The leader would be a smartphone built in tandem with Sony Ericsson that could run PlayStation games, presumably PSP games as hinted by Sony last month; it would compete against the game-friendly iPhone. Test-iPad: Nachts wird's weggeschlossen
Wenig verwunderlich ist es, dass auch das amerikanische Wall Street Journal an einer digitalen Ausgabe für das iPad bastelt. Rupert Murdoch bestätigte dies Anfang der Woche in New York und ließ sich bei dieser Gelegenheit noch ein paar interessante Details zu den Auflagen hinsichtlich eines Testgeräts entlocken, dass dem Verlag für die Entwicklung der Anwendung zur Verfügung gestellt wurde: "In fact, we've been allowed to work on one, and it's under padlock and key. The key is turned by Apple every night."
Demnach ist anzunehmen, dass ein Apple-Aufpasser das iPad nicht nur jeden Abend wieder wegpackt, sondern das Gerät vermutlich auch den Tag über nicht aus den Augen lässt.

Microsoft's Project Pink phones are getting closer to release, a marketing material leak appears to have confirmed today. The documents show the Turtle slider and suggest it would be advertised for Verizon under the command to "make your network more social." ASUS' ultra-thin RT-N56U router reflects on its CeBIT display
Frankly, it's not at all easy finding the new goodies at ASUS' CeBIT booth, but luckily we managed to catch word of this crazy spectacle of a router. Introducing, dear reader, the RT-N56U. It supports 802.11a/b/g/n, dual band support, 3G HSDPA USB dongles, printers and HDDs (via USB). Input methods include Two USB ports, four Gigabit LAN and one Gigabit WAN no wait, this is impressive but inconsequential. It's just really, really thin -- and that's all that matters here, right? ASUS intros ultra-slim designer Wi-Fi router
Among other product displays shown off by ASUS at CeBIT is this fashionably designed and ultra-thin RT-N56U Wi-Fi router. Penguin UK unveiled a peek at its upcoming plans for iPad formatted e-books, and we have to say, they're really taking the whole interactive experience trip and running with it. If you take a look at the big P's video presentation (which is embedded after the break), you'll spy a lot of noisy interactive games targeted at children, the innards of the human body laid bare on the screen taking text books to the next, less boring level, plus a vampire novel with an "online community for vampire lovers" built right in. McAfee: Aurora-Lücke ist noch nicht geschlossen

Apple pulling Wi-Fi hotspot detectors from App Store?
A number of apps used to detect Wi-Fi hotspots have disappeared from the App Store, accounts say. In particular the affected titles are said to be a small group which actively scan for hotspots, such as WiFi Where. Still available on the store are more passive apps, which combine databases with GPS location information. Little explanation has been offered by Apple except that the active apps use "private frameworks" for wireless that violate App Store rules.

Mio's Tegra-powered Moov V780 puts maps, 720p video, and the interwebs on dashboards
We're not suggesting playing a 720p vid while at the wheel, but Mio's Moov V780 -- or "premium PND," as they call it -- sure is a jack of all trades. Apple planning to deploy iPhone Advertising SDK?
According to a recent Job Posting, Apple is looking for an "iPhone Advertising SDK Manager".
This obviously stems from their recent purchase of Quattro wireless. What's interesting (and different from Google) here is that Apple appears to be integrating the advertising engine INTO the iPhone SDK so developers who want to put advertising in their apps will likely be able to do so from within Apple's iPhone SDK environment and get payouts from the same place that they currently recieve payments from paid apps.

Corsair intros fastest-in-class Force Series SSDs
Corsair on Thursday introduced a new range of solid state drives with the Force Series. Both the 100GB and 200GB models have a SATA II interface and offer purportedly class-topping 280MBps peak read speeds and 260MBps write speeds. AT&T adds 3G modems from LG, Option
AT&T modernized its 3G modem lineup on Thursday with two new USB sticks, including its first from LG. The LG USBConnect Turbo focuses mostly on design and has a unique swiveling USB connector that can work horizontally or vertically, fitting into even relatively unconventional ports. A second modem, Option's USBConnect Velocity, is the first GPS-aware modem for AT&T and provides positioning for apps that are aware of it.

While we weren't able to see the "wealth of cloud infotainment" touted in the official release, we did get a chance on the CeBIT show floor to see up close and personal ASUS' new O!Play HD2 media server. The design's a beaut and it's actually quite small in form factor. As for precisely what's running under its hood, the local ASUS rep was pretty mum -- what we do know is that it's HDMI 1.3 compliant and also boasts Composite / Component / Optical outputs and USB 2.0 / eSATA inputs, card readers for CF, SD, and Memory Stick, and that coveted USB 3.0 PC link. HTC wehrt sich gegen Patentklage von Apple

Notebooks, iPad-like tablets to be 70% of PCs by 2012
Portable computers like notebooks and tablets should make up 70 percent of computers in just two years, Gartner predicted today. The category was already more than 55 percent of the market last year but should keep growing through 2012 based on ultraportables and tablets like the iPad. Apple's device, along with other tablets and conventional tablet PCs, should help push the number of tablets on the market to to 10.5 million just this year.

Cool Leaf input devices create the keyboard of the future circa 1982 (video)
It's becoming startlingly apparent that in the future buttons will be obsolete. Their kind are being systematically eradicated by high-brow designers worldwide, most recent being Kazuo Kawasaki at Mineba, who has created Cool Leaf. It's basically a mirrored surface with backlit keys and a capacitive coating, creating a beautiful appearance that looks decidedly not-fun to use, particularly that keyboard (stylishly dubbed "Φ-QWERTY"). But, it is practical in some respects, thanks to the whole thing being waterproof and easily cleaned. So these might indeed be the keyboards of the future -- for doctors and nurses, anyway.

Microsoft: 90 million Windows 7 copies sold since launch
Microsoft CFO Peter Klein late yesterday revealed that it has sold 90 million copies of Windows 7 in various forms since the OS was released in late October. The figure, revealed at Morgan Stanley's technology conference, is an all-time high for Windows sales and represents far stronger sales than Vista achieved in a similar timeframe. China Unicom nimmt trotz Ärger mit Google Android-Handys ins Programm
Der zweitgrößte chinesische Mobilfunkanbieter China Unicom wird nach Verzögerungen nun doch Android-Handys in sein Programm aufnehmen. Dies berichtet die Nachrichtenagentur Reuters. iPhone-Programmierworkshop in M & HH
Unsere Kollegen von der Macwelt veranstalten im März in München und Hamburg zwei Programmierworkshops für iPhone-Entwickler, und konnten mit Evan Doll einen namhaften Gastredner verpflichten. Doll hat jahrelang bei Apple entwickelt und sich vor allem durch seine bei iTunes U erhältlichen Stanford-Video-Sessions zur iPhone-Programmierung einen Namen gemacht.
Am ersten Tag des Seminars erhalten die Teilnehmer einen Überblick über die verfügbaren Entwicklungsumgebungen und werden mit den Grundlagen der iPhone- und iPad-Programmierung vertraut gemacht. An Tag 2 dreht sich dann alles ums Coden, Ziel ist es, dass jeder Teilnehmer im Anschluss iPhone-Programme selbst erstellen kann.

Bericht: Foxconn baut im März bis zu 700.000 iPads
Foxconn wird im Lauf des Monats März zwischen 600.000 und 700.000 iPads fertigen. Das berichtet Digitimes unter Berufung auf anonyme Quellen bei Lieferanten des Unternehmens. Im April soll die Liefermenge auf rund eine Million Stück ansteigen. Zumindest in den USA scheint das der Plan zu sein. Motorola lizenziert zu diesem Zweck ein schnurloses Telefon mit DECT-6-Standard vom chinesischen Hersteller Binatone. Well, what do we have here? It's the Sony Vaio M series netbook, as yet unannounced but sitting here getting detailed all the same. The 10.1-inch netbook, which looks, well, pretty much identical to the Sony Vaio W series, is apparently going to boast a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 250GB hard drive, plus 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, and a built-in webcam. Foxconn, einer der iPad-Hersteller in Taiwan, hat sich gegen Gerüchte über Produktionsengpässe ausgesprochen. Valve deutet mit einer Reihe von Teaser-Postern an, dass der Spiele-Plattform Steam demnächst auch für den Mac erhältlich sein wird. With spring upon us, HP's officially launching the Mini 210 Vivienne Tam edition that it previewed back at September's Fall Fashion Week, and, well, it sure is unique looking. Franklin Group has introduced a new 3D engine for games and simulations, Franklin 3D. Pierre Cardin tablets won't keep your pants up
Well isn't this the most unlikely partnership of the year. Apparently world famous designer and maker of watches/belts Pierre Cardin thought the tablet selection in the world was lacking, and teamed up with a small Taiwanese OEM to bring some touchscreen devices to market. We checked out the line today, and though both the 7-inch PC729 and 8.9-inch PC819 tablets are rather thick the build quality is actually solid. The tablets pack resistive multitouch displays and include a stylus for navigating around Windows 7. Internally they're packing VIA's older C7-M processors which doesn't mean good things on the battery life front -- we can't imagine these things running for longer than two hours. Thought all multitouch-capable displays were created equal? Think again -- Android and Me has posted a rather fascinating (if not somewhat depressing) video showing a demo multitouch app created by a game developer who'd grown suspicious after running into all sorts of trouble getting the feature to work the way he wanted on the Nexus One. Real given permanent RealDVD ban, to pay $4.5m
RealNetworks on Wednesday night agreed to a settlement in movie studios' lawsuit against RealDVD. The deal will see the company agree to a permanent ban against selling the app and related technologies as well as pay out a settlement of $4.5 million to the MPAA members that launched the suit. Acer reveals pico projector with 2,000:1 contrast
Acer as part of a mostly Europe-focused update at CeBIT has added a new pico projector. The K11 still uses DLP and fits in a pocket but gets a boost with an LED lamp. Ideum unveils new and improved MT-50 multitouch table

Kingston bringt DDR3-1600 bei nur 1,25 Volt
Kingston hat zur CeBIT die Verfügbarkeit des weltweit ersten Ultra-Low Voltage Memory-Modul angekündigt. Es läuft mit 1.600 MHz, benötigt dafür lediglich 1,25 Volt und gehört zur neuen „Kingston ‘LoVo’ (Low Voltage) HyperX DDR3 High-Performance Speicher“-Produktlinie.
