White Dell Adamo pictures leak out
While we got some early time with Dell's super-secret Adamo prototype, it looks like we weren't the only ones -- and it also looks like we didn't get the whole enchilada: there's a white version hiding in the Palms as well. Still no more details than before, but bub.blicio.us was also allowed to boot the aluminum ultraportable, so at least we know that there's chips in that box. We're actually headed back to check out the Mini 10, so we'll dig for even more (and try to get pictures in a better-lit room), but for now check these latest Adamo pictures in the gallery.Gallery:

We've taken a mountain of shots of the new Palm Pre, but we thought a proper tour of the the apps and interface was in order. Ben Heck crams Xbox 360 controller into Atari 2600 joystick
As we've seen, a little Atari 2600 is a sure way to liven almost anything -- cakes, candles, landfills -- and it looks like the Xbox 360 is no exception, as none other than Ben Heck has proved with his new so-called 3600 controller. As you might expect, Ben didn't exactly take the expected route to wind up at this creation, instead opting to use the guts of a Guitar Hero 3 controller, which he somehow managed to squeeze into the base of everyone's favorite one-button controller (even leaving room for a guide button and ring of light o

Spotted: Curve 8900 running on AT&T
So Boy Genius Report reported on a shot of what seems to be a Curve 8900 running on AT&T -- which seems like a pretty good idea, may we add -- and we're trying to make sense of what's really going on. We hit up RIM's booth at CES to get the lowdown on the situation, and what do you know, the mythical beast is nowhere to be found. The reps on the floor said that it's only for T-Mobile and when we checked every 8900 on the show floor, we couldn't find one running on any other carrier. 'Course, we'd be shocked if RIM wasn't chronically refreshing BGR every fifteen seconds, so it's entirely possible that they saw the news, realized their grave error, and pulled the off

Samsung's Capella Bluetooth earpiece invades CES
Samsung swept into CES this year like an alien invasion. Tucked away beneath its awards, massive booth presence, and disrupter blast of products is this sexy Bluetooth earpiece. Lenovo's Android-powered OPhone to hit China Mobile this quarter
Look out, China -- Lenovo's all-too-sexy OPhone is about to land in the hands of unsuspecting China Mobile subscribers, or so says Reuters, anyway. The planet's largest mobile carrier will reportedly launch the 3G handset sometime this quarter, though some reports are suggesting that development is being hampered as engineers struggle with creating a Chinese language version of the OS. Once launched, it will go down as the first Android-powered handset to operate on China's home-cooked TD-SCDMA 3G network, but there's no word on just how costly it'll be. Not like cost is really a concern here, right?

AMD announces ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 series graphics chips
NVIDIA has already given its laptop graphics offerings a bit of a boost at CES, and now AMD has followed suit, with it taking the wraps off its new ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 series chips. As you may have guessed, these are based on the same core architecture as AMD's 4000 series of desktop graphics cards, and they promise to be as much as twice as fast as their 3000 series predecessors. Helping out significantly on that front is the use of GDDR5 memory, a first for laptop graphics, as well as an increase in the number of stream processing units (800 on the top end HD 4870 and 4850), and a new, cooler 55nm manufacturing process. In addition to those top end graphics options, AMD will also introduce a couple of new 4600 series cards, which use the same GDDR3 memory and 320 st

As you can guess from the name it's a pen and it's, erh, smart. But what does it do? Well, I tried it to find out
First, it is a rather big and heavy pen, although if you are on the bling side and like massive-gold diamond-studded fountain pens, you'll be at home (apart from the style, of course). Plus, it has a tiny LCD screen along the top of its body.
So, simply write on the page and the pen does two things: it digitises what you write and at the same time records what you hear. Pretty useful for, say, jotting down notes during a conference, an

Dell (finally) confirms its portable Wasabi Zink printer
Details are frustratingly absent, but Dell just came clean on that portable Zink printer of theirs, the Wasabi, that we saw run by the FCC in September. Luckily, all these Zink printers are pretty much the same -- meaning specialized 2 x 3-inch paper for ink-free printing, and a pretty stonking tiny form factor. Like most of the rest of the products introduced at Dell's ridiculously uninformative press event today, there's no word on price or release date.Filed under: Peripherals

Most users will never see the difference, as it is visible only in certain conditions with both displays being side-by-side. However, if you really want to know which LCD panel is installed in your MacBook, hereafter is the procedure

IOGEAR intros first HDMI-compliant KVMs: 1080p, lossless audio supported
We've been waiting for something like this for pretty much ever, and thanks to IOGEAR, we've finally got it. Here at CES, the company has introduced new 2- and 4-Port HDMI KVM switches with USB 2.0 Peripheral Sharing (GCS1792, GCS1794), which are HDMI 1.3b and HDCP compliant. As if that weren't enough, both boxes also support 1080p resolutions, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. In related news, the 4-Port DualView Dual-Link DVI KVMP Switch (GCS1644) also saw the light of day today, and everything mentioned here should be up for sale in Q1. Oh, but don't think these suckers will come cheap -- prices range from $299.95 for the 2-port HDMI KVM to $679.95 for the DualView sibling.Filed under

Even if not, however, this will help you stream content at up to 720p over VGA for 30 feet sans wires, and it's fully compatible with Windows XP and Vista. The bad news? The price has increased by around $50 since last mention, with the latest report suggesting a $349.95 sticker and a March ship date.Filed under:

Eyes-on the Creative Zii (or parts of it, anyway)
We stopped by Creative's booth to see what the haps was with the Zii earlier, and well, there wasn't a ton going on there, but we wanted to document the experience for you anyway. What we saw didn't enhance our knowledge of what we learned earlier in the day: the system-on-chip architecture for media applications (the first part being the ZMO5 Media-Rich System-On-Chip which is apparently a newer version of 3DLABS's DMS-02 chip) is touted as a springboard for commercial applications -- and we hear that at least PowerLinux has signed on to use the platform for an advanced video conferencing system. Sounds exhaustingly exciting right? And it was. Creative doesn't want anyone getting too close to their components -- they were all encased in glass --

The Moov S556 keeps the same 4.7-inch display but adds in Bluetooth and Junction View, while the S700 breaks out a 7-inch panel. The whole lot is supposed to ship before the second half of this year for $199.99, $249.99, $299.99 and $299.99 in order of mention.

17 inch MacBook Pro commercial and a few thoughts
That 17-inch MacBook Pro is a thing of beauty, no doubt. But we have some reservations. First of all, the five years of battery charges couldn't have been tested (this new tech/form factor didn't exist five years ago). Lithium Polymer might age poorly or differently in real world conditions and differently than in testing. We are willing to give Apple the benefit of the doubt but know we have been dealt a bit of a wild card there. Also we know the five hour batteries typically last three hours, so should we expect these 7/8 hour batteries to last 5/6 hours?
Next, that enclosure doesn't just enclose the battery but it also encloses the hard drive (see no seams in video below). And you only have a few (Apple only) options out of the box. The biggest drive you can walk away with is a 320GB.&nbs

Off Topic: ASUS EEE Keyboard (and Sony P). Cool
Yes, this is an Apple Blog and of course we love to focus on Apple products but it never hurts to look around the technology landscape just a bit. ASUS, the company that invented the Netbook category, this year may have invented the "Keybook" category. They've stuffed a whole PC, including small touch screen monitor into a slightly oversized keyboard (Apple // be damned!). Specs haven't been given but surely it carries your garden variety Netbook 1.6ish GHz Atom processor and too little RAM and hard drive to run Vista. If you look below you'll see a lot of ports including HDMI for 1080P goodness.
Nice work ASUS, we like this concept even if it doesn't find its way into our homes. Oh, and then there is the Sony P. It is so good to see that Apple has some c

Taiwan going through a storm
Source : TGdaily The Taipei Times reports that the Minister for Finance of the island has been shocked by the latest figures concerning exports.
Last December, the export of electronics products dropped by 43,4% compared to last year. Among these products, LCD screens are most affected, with a steep fall of 69,2%.
China should be also affected since they import many components from Taiwan to manufacture end products exported to the rest of the world. They have lowered their orders by 54%.
This does not obligatorily mean that the market of computer sales has stopped, but that all manufacturers are reducing to the lowest possible their product stocks in order to spare their bank accounts.

Fulton Innovation has a wireless power coming out party at CES
It was just a short year ago that we went to Fulton Innovation's tiny booth at CES and failed to get a working wireless power demo, but a lot's happened since then -- the company is at CES 2009 in force, with a much larger, swanker booth, partners like Energizer and Motorola demoing working products, and tons of working real-world examples of the tech in action. NIMBLe is MC Hammer-approved, brings Android to even the most boring of countertops
Unrelated candid photo aside it's no lie: if you've managed to load Android onto your device, no matter how lame it may seem, you're probably a good looking person. Not only that, but you might've built Touch Revolution's NIMBLe, which is a billed as a Home Touch Phone, but runs the Android OS and holds a full 7-inch touchscreen. The most basic functionality is that of a speakerphone, but obviously Android -- along with the built-in WiFi, Bluetooth and Ethernet connectivity -- opens this up to so much more functionality. Touch Revolution is actually dabbling in all sorts of hardware and software configurations, building a "Touch Device Development Platform" for farming out to companies for all sorts of purposes. Current builds include 600MHz StrongARM or greater processors, 128MB of RAM, 512MB of flas

ASUS' Eee D200 with touchscreen display sneaks out in Taiwan
Here's a strange one. The image above was attached to an email sent to Engadget Chinese boasting about the immense interest in ASUS' booth at CES this year. However, the D200 has never been announced and we're pretty sure that's not the booth open to the public here in Las Vegas. Regardless, we can see clearly from the spec card that the D200 is some kind of low-end Atom PC (and possible media server) with up to 2TB of RAID storage, 5-channel HD audio out, and slot loading DVD writer targeting the home network. The inclusion of an 802.11n access point just adds to the mystery. Oh, and that 3.5-inch LCD is touch-sensitive. Now spill it ASUS, what is this thing?Filed under: CES, Desktops,

Video: iRobot Looj hands on shows improved leaf carnage
It was at last year's CES that we first got our hands on iRobot's Looj, and while easy gutter cleaning is something most homeowners can appreciate, the thing did have some issues that left many users tossing the things out with the decomposing crud it was supposed to fling. Enter the Looj second generation, which includes a flexible auger that should keep the thing from flipping itself over, a tool-free battery door, and a faster reverse speed to get the thing back to your ladder in half the time. Nothing revolutionary, but some much-needed updates that will be available this spring for $129, and we were impressed with the sheer spite the thing displayed against a mock gutter full of faux leaves. Brother Quattro 6000D hands-on
We just got a nice look at the beastly Brother Quattro 6000D sewing machine here at CES. We've done a fair amount of embroidery in our day, and we have to say, seeing this machine in action is pretty impressive. Disappointing Disney branding aside (yup, that's Mickey Mouse beneath the giant 4.5 x 7-inch Sharp HD LCD), the Quattro boasts a 50 square inch workspace that is probably any quilter's dream, and it's also got 3 USB ports. Sadly, the purchase price ("about $9,000") is probably prohibitive for most of us casual stitchers. No word yet on availability, but check the gallery and video after the break.Gallery: Brother Quat

Mio's Windows Mobile-powered concept MID hands-on
Well, what have we here? While waltzing about the CES floor today, we stumbled upon a conceptual Mio MID that looks suspiciously like Sony's VAIO P. The currently unnamed device was actually lookin' pretty sharp, as it boasted a 7-inch WVGA (800 x 480) resolution display, integrated WiFi, a non-removable battery good for eight hours or so and a full QWERTY keyboard. It was also packing a trackball setup, an SD card slot, a few USB ports and audio in / out. We were told that the design was still being finalized and that it wouldn't ship until mid-2009 at the earliest, and while we'd love to see this piece ship Stateside, we have our doubts. Coby's sub-$200 netbooks handled at CES
Remember those sub-$100 Coby netbooks that we deemed a hoax? Well, it looks like they might not be as hoax-y as we originally thought. Here at CES, Coby has a bunch of base models on the show floor in a myriad of color combos. The rep who showed us around made it clear that this was a "market research project" but that the 'books would ring in at under $200. There were a bunch of different configurations, but nothing too different from the usual Atom setup. The six color offerings might pique your interest, but after playing with them for a few minutes, we don't know how eager we'd be to run out and pick one up -- they felt pretty low-end. Coby's MP836 hands-on: when 'not quite ready for primetime' is a gross understatement
It looks like the plush gray carpet in the Coby booth at CES isn't the only thing that might make you stumble. Coby's flagship PMP here at CES is the MP836, and it's safe to say it rubbed us the wrong way. The device itself wasn't that horrible to look at, but the interface and general aesthetics were both major turnoffs. The Coby reps said that it has multitouch, but there wasn't any actual implementation to be found. It'll be available in 4, 8, and 16GB variations when it does eventually hit the marketplace, but we couldn't get a solid MSRP from the very confused booth staff. Be sure to check out our vids of the device "in action" (if you can really call it that) and the gallery as well. But hey, if lackluster three inch displays and unresponsive t

The chiclet keyboard on the T101H is a slight improvement over the standard Eee PC keyboard on the T91 -- which is a tad less firm, and with less room for distinct spacing. We found the hinge to be just alright, only rotating in a clockwise direction, and showing bit of "give." Otherwise it's pretty standard Eee, with ASUS's standard march toward sexy and the deepes

The ARM architecture for multicore chips doesn't even start picking up steam until 2010. In 2009, the Cortex A8 will continue to gain momentum. Toward the end of the year, devices based on the A9 single core architecture could start appearing.
To be fair to the Apple Core, they weren't really giving time-lines or anything of substance just reporting on people who don't know what they are talking about. Wil
