Samsung to open own retail stores in Canada

Samsung is planning to chase rivals' retail strategy with its own, fully self-run stores in Canada, the company's national head James Politeski said in an interview. Along with store-within-a-store locations like that it opened in the UK, Samsung will have dedicated stores at parts across the country, he told Canada.com. As with Apple and Sony, it would have specific designs and train staff itself, although it would outsource the actual management to unnamed companies.

Jobs bio writer insists CEO was genuinely angry over Android

Steve Jobs biographer Walter Isaacson is challenging comments by Google CEO Larry Page, who recently claimed that Jobs' anger at Android was "for show,", according to Macworld. Isaacson spoke at the UK's Royal Institution on Wednesday night, and drew parallels between the Android situation and Apple's conflict with Microsoft in the 1980s. Isaacson remarked during his speech that Jobs believed in a closed product ecosystem, in which software and hardware are intertwined. Jobs was allegedly upset not only at Microsoft imitating the GUI used for Macs, but also for licen

Apple patents packaging with built-in electronics

A new US patent from Apple suggests the iPhone maker wants to rethink the way products are packaged. The so-called "active electronic media device packaging" will also require at least one method of wireless power transmission to light up the package.

Is that a 3D prototype in HTC's EVO 4G LTE making of video?

An HTC Evo 4G LTE with dual cameras could only mean one thing, right? It's unclear whether the 3D rig in the company's intro video is simply a design mock-up, or a functional prototype of a model to come, but there's definitely something of the sort floating around HTC's labs. The device in question looks identical to the Evo we saw at yesterday's Sprint launch event -- kickstand and all -- save for that unique dual-lens design. And if such a smartphone did come to fruition, what could we expect for a name? Sprint HTC EVO 4G 3D LTE? We sure hope not. Apple's generally not one to go overboard with packaging; a simple white box with a few unmistakable logos is just about all it takes to get the point across. But in a future world -- one where people have digitized skin and NFC readers in their fingernails -- we'll obviously need something with a bit more flamboyance. A patent application originally filed on December 12th, 2011 (and just made public today) details an "active electronic media device packaging," which outlines a method for packaging gizmos in a box that "may include one or more electrical traces in-molded or printed onto the packaging."It gets a little ambiguous from there, but it sounds as if "one or more wireless power techn

Motrr Galileo robotic iPhone platform is go for launch

One of the coolest Apple-related Kickstarter projects in the recent past has been the Motrr Galileo, a robotic iPhone platform. There's still time for you to be a Galileo backer and get one for $85 -- the actual price tag when the product hits the market will be $129.95. The founder

Both Infineon's owner Intel as well as Qualcomm have both provided source code for their 3G implementations. Apple hopes to show that it's not violating Samsung's 3G patents and will likely try to argue for patent exhaustion, or the idea that the patents' license don't extend further than ann immediate grant to someone else.

Nikon D4 field review

Right around 2.5 years after the introduction of Nikon's most recent game-changer (yeah, we're bragging about at the D3S), its proper successor has emerged. Without qualification, the amount of hope and expectation surrounding the Nikon D4 was immense. In a way, most Nikonians were (perhaps foolishly) expecting the D4 to be to the D3S what the D3S was to the D3, and we'll confess that we were cautiously saving up precious pennies in the event that the game was changed yet again. For better or worse, the actual specifications of the D4 ended up as hardly w

Daily iPhone App: Big Lens lets you add some pizzaz to your photos

When all is said and done, I prefer the iPhone for photography over other handsets. The ability to take a decent photo, edit it on the fly and then share it with friends and family is priceless. As a result, I've amassed a large number of photography apps. One app that's made it into my virtual camera bag for the long haul is Big Lens, an editor that lets you add creative effects to your photos. Big Lens excels at adding effects, especially a depth-of-field effect. The app lets you take a picture manually or add one from your camera roll. When you load the photo into the app, you have the option to select the area of the photo that you wish to highlight. Using your finger, you color the highlighted part red.

iPhone-Schale: Freshfiber liefert neue Design-Idee
