Lenovo K800's initial benchmark scores look promising, but not ambitious
If Lenovo's sticking to its promise, it should only be another two months maximum before its Medfield-powered K800 smartphone debuts in China. Until then, we won't know the full potential of the 1.6GHz Atom Z2460 powering Ice Cream Sandwich, but we do have the next best thing for now: what we've just obtained are some benchmark results from a K800 prototype with Android 2.3.7, and while the graphics performance wasn't top notch this time round, the general score performance came close to that of the Galaxy Note (powere

Daily iPhone App: Trip Pages lets you save and share memorable places
Whether you are taking a trip to your local museum or a trip around the world, there will be moments that you'll want to remember. Trip Pages from Studeo410 lets you capture that moment with a picture, a note and relevant location information.
The first thing I noticed about Trip Pages is its pleasing, yet technical looking interface. The app launches with a screen that shows a compass with your heading, GPS co-ordinates, speed and weather. It even displays your elevation based on your GPS location.
At the bottom of the screen, there's buttons to display your location on a map, take a picture, and view your library of saved locations, which the app calls "pages." Each page stores your

Keep Google Weird
There's a sign that hangs in the windows of shops in downtown Santa Cruz, California. "Keep Santa Cruz Weird." It's not unique to that town, of course -- the best known implementation of the slogan is the one seen all over Austin, Texas. Localized versions have also been spotted on t-shirts and bumper stickers in places like Portland and Boulder -- any area where the undercurrent of independent thinking does daily battle with the threat of homogenized commerce. The Santa Cruz example sticks in my mind in particular, of course, due to the five years I spent in that town, whose weirdness never fully recovered from the '89 earthquake, a natural disaster that both wreaked havoc on the landscape and caused a shift in the local zeitgeist, opening crumbled an

Apple drops alert patent in Chicago litigation against Motorola
Apple and other handset manufacturers are involved in so many lawsuits that it's difficult to keep up. Earlier this week, another infringement lawsuit in Chicago that's been around for a while resurfaced because Apple dropped a patent from the lawsuit. Apple was complying with a request from Judge Richard Posner who told the two parties involved in the case to winnow their claims, says a report in FOSS Patents.
Both Apple and Motorola are involved in this Chicago case, which started off with claims involving fifteen Apple and six Motorola patents. That number, says FOSS Patents, has been whittled down by one-third. The latest patent to hit the chopping block was

Should Apple build a museum on the new campus?
Computer historian David Greelish argues in a blog post that Apple should build a museum on the grounds of its new Cupertino campus. He points out that the flying ring-shaped office will attract everyone from architects to Apple fans who want to check out the unique building.
Apple, Greelish says, should embrace these tourists and build a museum that'll showcase Apple's achievements. Greelish offers his ideas on how the museum should be built and even provides a few sample designs.
Greelish isn't the first one to propose an Apple museum. Apple toyed with the idea of a corporate museum in the past, but Steve Jobs rejected the idea and gave

Facebook, Dropbox iOS apps contain security hole that could allow identity theft
Let's clear this up quickly: Yes, there's a security hole in the Facebook app. The Next Web also confirmed the same issue in the Dropbox app. The good news is this: It's very unlikely anyone would get your info this way.
Someone would have to have physical access to your iPhone, and you'd have to allow them to plug it into their Mac, then allow them to do a bunch of business on your phone to grab a plain text file from inside these apps, then they'd have to go and do something malicious on your Facebook or Dropbox accounts.

As much as I like the new iPhoto myself, Mathis brings up some good points regarding some of the gestures. Also, not particularly surprising is the fact that the percent of folks reading e-books is on the rise as well -- the number who claimed to have read an e-book in the year prior made a bit of a jump from 17-percent in December to 21-percent in February. Naturally, the whole printed thing is still a bit more wide
