Energizer makes single-device Inductive charger for singles looking to wirelessly mingle
Standardized inductive charging with the Qi standard is a beautiful thing, but previously Energizer's only charging pad had room for not one but two devices. PFLAG president writes 'open letter' to Jobs over Exodus app
Rabbi David Horowitz of PFLAG National (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) has written an open letter to Apple CEO Steve Jobs joining the chorus of those requesting that Apple pull an app from Exodus International that critics say promotes intolerance of homosexuality by offering services to help "cure" gays and lesbians. Exodus' official policy is that homosexuality is "outside of God's will" and "destructive."

NeatWorks for Mac 3.5: tax improvements, better performance
The Neat Company has released an update to its Mac scanning software, NeatWorks for Mac v3.5. The software works with both of the company's scanners, the NeatDesk for Mac and the mobile NeatReceipts for Mac. The scanning software uses optical character recognition and parsing technology to scan information on receipts, business cards and documents, then extracts data to create expense reports, complete tax forms, add to contact lists and track spending. TeleNav GPS for iPhone 4, iPad 2: Free maps, inexpensive turn-by-turn service
At CTIA in Orlando, Florida, TeleNav today announced a new GPS solution for iPhone 4 and iPad 2 (with 3G) users. Available immediately in the App Store, TeleNav GPS (free) gives starts off providing 30 free days of personal navigation service, including spoken turn-by-turn directions, 3D moving maps, auto-rerouting, and enhanced search of over 22 million points of interest.
After 30 days, users can choose to just stay with the map and search service, or they can make an in-app purchase of $2.99 per month or $21.99 a year for the full navigation service. The company already has over 20 million subscribers to their services, one of which is the

Google scores a patent for its 'Doodles'
Google's Doodles have certainly come a long way from their humble beginnings, but the company has now pulled off what may be its most jaw-dropping feat yet -- it's just been awarded a patent for them. Described as "systems and methods for enticing users to access a web site," the patent credits Google co-founder Sergey Brin as the sole inventor, and it comes more than ten years after Google first filed the application. T-Mobile G-Slate bundled apps tour (video)
The G-Slate from LG (aka Optimus Pad) was on display at T-Mobile's booth here at CTIA, so we spent a few minutes investigating the apps the carrier is bundling with the 8.9" Honeycomb tablet at launch, namely Need for Speed Shift, T-Mobile TV, and Zinio eReader. Jobs: iPod classic to stay alive
The iPod classic is still going to survive for awhile longer, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs is now known to have said in e-mail. A fan urged him not to kill off the hard drive MP3 player as it was the "the best iPod in the line" after worrying about the lack of updates at the September 1 event last year. "We have no plans to," the company co-founder wrote back to the MacRumors reader from his iPhone.

Rumor: Steam looking at iOS integration
This is interesting -- according to a Steam user who got to Valve headquarters in Washington, the popular game network may be looking at extending itself out onto the iOS platform. That doesn't necessarily mean that there would be a straight-up Steam client for the iPhone and the iPad (although how awesome would that be?) but rather, it sounds like Steam is looking at integrating either its social networking or achievement integration features out towards Apple's platform, in the form of an app or something else.

Verizon says 4G LTE network will cover 'at least' 147 US cities by the end of 2011
Verizon used CES back in January to announce 49 new markets that would be covered by its 4G LTE network by the end of 2011, and it's now taken advantage of CTIA to announce an additional 59 cities, which brings the total up to "at least" 147 that will be covered by year's end. Those new markets span just about the entire US (including Hawaii, but not Alaska), and they build on the initial group of 39 markets, which already covers some 110 million people. 10.6.7 update sparks iTunes bug on new MacBook Airs
An interesting thread in Apple's support forums details an issue -- and two possible fixes -- for current-model MacBook Air owners who experience an unusual bug with iTunes after upgrading to OS X 10.6.7. After upgrading, new MacBook Air owners report that iTunes will cause a "hard freeze" a few seconds after opening, requiring a forced shutdown. All other programs work normally.

Aperture 3.1.2 update smooths out bugs, performance
Apple is now distributing a minor update for Aperture, 3.1.2. The patch is said to improve "overall stability and performance," as well as correct three specific glitches. Gigabyte's 15.6-inch P2532: world's thinnest second-gen Core i7 laptop (video)

Valve explores Steam for iOS, Android
Valve is investigating the possibility of expanding Steam to iOS and Android, a member of the official Steam forums claims to have learned. The person says he was told of the company's plans in speaking with co-founder Gabe Newell at Valve headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. AT&T nabs Acer Iconia Tab A501, expect it in the summer months

HTC Evo View 4G tablet hits Sprint, we try it out
Sprint's other major introduction on Tuesday was the HTC Evo View 4G, its adaptation of the Flyer. HTC's dual-core Evo 3D unveiled [hands-on]
Sprint at its CTIA event brought out its new headlining phone for 2011, the HTC Evo 3D. The phone is the fastest HTC has ever made, with a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon, and uses the extra power to be even faster and more efficient than the T-Mobile G2X or other rival devices. Qualcomm's chip is asynchronous and downclocks one of the cores if it isn't being heavily used, keeping the dual cores alive but improving the battery life, allowing one core to work at full speed but saving battery life.

HTC EVO 3D vs. EVO 4G... fight!
Naturally, one of the first things you need to do when you get your hands on an EVO 3D, of course, is pit it in brutal battle with its progenitor, the original EVO 4G -- a phone that was introduced at this exact same event a year ago. As we'd mentioned in our hands-on, we immediately noticed that the EVO 3D didn't feel particularly heavy or bulky in the hand; in fact, we would've guessed that it was a bit lighter than the 4G. Well, turns out they're almost exactly the same weight -- holding the two one right after the other, we couldn't detect a difference.

Sandy Bridge iMacs tipped for delivery by early May
Updated iMacs will be "en route by ocean" to the US by the end of April, or else the first week of May, according to sources in touch with CNET's Brian Tong. ForeverMap handy but a bit rough
ForeverMap brings maps of every location in North America to your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. The US $0.99 app lets you decide which maps you want, such as a state, a whole country or a province, and download what you need. Maps can be downloaded through iTunes or on WiFi, but not on 3G. You can delete, or add more maps as you wish, the only limitation being storage on your iDevice.
The maps are sourced from OpenStreetMaps.org. The advantage of the app is you have the maps with you without any data connection needed. You can plan a route, find a nearby restaurant or museum, or find an address without ever being connected to the Internet.

Flow now available, keeps your tasks beautifully in sync
Flow, the long-awaited task management system by Metalab, is finally slipping out of beta today and opening its doors to the public.
First and foremost, Flow is a web app that many will find very similar to MobileMe in aesthetics. Through this interface, one can add and manage tasks through projects or even delegate tasks to other Flow users (a handy feature for teams). The real killer feature we're seeing with Flow, however, is the cloud-based architecture. HTC EVO 3D first hands-on!
We've just put our paws on the EVO 3D for the first time, and what struck us immediately is that it's not as beefy, bulky, or overwhelming as the 4.3-inch display or specs might have you believe -- if you're familiar with the EVO 4G, you'll feel right at home here (and you might even be pleasantly surprised). The screen's stereoscopic 3D effect is about as good as what we've seen on the Optimus 3D in the past -- very good head-on with decreasing effectiveness as you move your head to the side. Samsung makes Galaxy Tab 10.1 thinner to one-up iPad 2
In a game of one up-manship with Apple, Samsung has redesigned its original Galaxy Tab 10.1 to slim down its 10.9mm thickness. The iPad 2 handily beat that, at 8.8mm, but the redesigned Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now just 8.6mm thick. It also now matches the slightly smaller but equally new Galaxy Tab 8.9 in terms of thickness.

What does the AT&T deal for T-Mobile USA mean for Apple?
AT&T confirmed on Sunday that it plans to acquire T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telecom and operate the wireless carrier as a separate brand. If approved, this deal would bump AT&T up to 130 million subscribers and make it the nation's largest wireless operator. Though it is not directly involved in this merger, GigaOm suggests that Apple stands to benefit from the union of these two wireless carriers.
This new relationship will improve the performance of the current iPhone on AT&T's network. AT&T has been long maligned for its less-than-stellar network quality, a situation it has been trying to remedy by building out its network and increasing backhaul capacity.

Toshiba has quietly pushed out a new 14-inch mobile USB display, weighing just 2.8 pounds and retailing for a freakishly affordable $199.99. CRU-DataPort's ToughTech Duo QR: RAID for the road
I recently reviewed the WiebeTech RTX220-QR RAID array, which I found to be a fast and rock-solid array that would be great for office use. After returning the drive to WiebeTech, I was contacted by the company about a new array that could provide the same speedy RAID features in a much more portable format. That array, from WiebeTech's parent company CRU-DataPort, is called the ToughTech Duo QR, and it uses two 2.5" notebook hard drives in a solid aluminum shell in either a RAID 0 (striped) or RAID 1 (mirrored) configuration.

Mozilla makes Firefox 4 release official
While having let the software slip out the door on Monday, Mozilla has today made the release of Firefox 4 official. Windows, Mac and Linux versions are available, and in numerous different languages, ranging from mainstays like English, French and Chinese to less commonly-supported languages like Icelandic and Catalan. Only a handful of languages are still limited to v3.6.15, namely Assamese, Georgian, Occitan and Serbian.

iPad 2 startet am 25. März in 25 weiteren Ländern
Apple-CEO Steve Jobs, der seit Mitte Januar krankheitsbedingt pausiert, hat in San Francisco die zweite Generation des iPad vorgestellt. Das iPad 2 - so der offizielle Name - wird von einem Apple-A5-Dual-Core-Prozessor angetrieben. Er soll bei gleichem Stromverbrauch die doppelte CPU- und die neunfache Grafikleistung bringen als der A4-Chip des Vorgängers. Die Preise bleiben mit 499 (16 GByte), 599 (32 GByte) und 699 Euro (64 GByte) unverändert. Die 3G-Version soll jeweils 100 Euro mehr kosten. Das noch aktuelle iPad wird derzeit um 120 Euro vergünstigt abverkauft.

Tablet-Anorexia: Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 ist dünner als iPad 2

Auf der CTIA werden gerade fleißig Stände aufgebaut und die Kollegen von pocketnow haben auf dem Samsung-Stand den Aufsteller zum bald kommenden Galaxy Tab 8.9 gesichtet. Wie man erkennen kann wird das Tab 8.9 mit 8,6mm marginal dünner sein als das iPad 2 (8,8mm), dafür aber mit 470 Gramm um einiges leichter als die Konkurrenz. The iPhone 5 has entered a trial production stage, and will be shipping in the third quarter of 2011, says the China Times. The publication is offering few other details, but does suggest that the phone will use a scratch-resistant 4-inch touchscreen. Schlaumeier von der European Aeronautic Defense and Space Group (EADS) haben ein Fahrrad aus dem 3D-Drucker ausgetüftelt: Das Airbike entstand so aus Nylon-Pulver, das beim Drucken per Laser gehärtet wurde, es soll 65 Prozent weniger wiegen, als ein Fahrrad aus konventionellem Leichtbau. Die Innovation besteht dabei vor allem in einem Verfahren namens Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM), bei dem mehrere Komponenten gleichzeitig ausgedruckt werden, was den Ausschuss auf ein Minimum reduziert. Earlier this morning, Apple announced that the iPad 2 will go on sale in 25 countries this Friday, March 25th. The retail frenzy will begin at 5:00 PM local time via Apple Stores, complete with boisterous, fist-pumping sales staff, and select authorized resellers. Insomniacs can take advantage of online sales which begin at 1:00 AM.
As for pricing, here are some numbers. MacStories points out that the Italian pricing is €479,00 for the WiFi 16 GB model, €579,00 for the WiFi 32 GB model and €679,00 for WiFi 64 GB. The WiFi + 3G models will be available for €599,00, €699,00 and €799,00.

A federal magistrate judge, Howard R. Lloyd, has ordered Apple CEO Steve Jobs to answer questions in a long-running antitrust dispute over the iPod and RealNetworks audio files, says Bloomberg. "The court finds that Jobs has unique, non-repetitive, firsthand knowledge about the issues at the center of the dispute over RealNetworks software," Lloyd's judgment reads. Jobs is expected to undergo a deposition, although it is not allowed to last more than two hours or stray from the topic at the heart of the case.

Apple slinging iPad 2 to 25 more countries this Friday, even more next month
Still having trouble locating an iPad 2 here in the US of A? Grab your passport, bub. Starting on Friday, March 25th, Apple will start hawking its latest and greatest iPad in 25 other nations, with sales to begin at 5PM local time through Apple retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers (or 1AM online). 'Course, this is a move we've been expecting all along, but at least the folks in Cupertino seem to be wasting no time in expanding availability. You can find the full list of nations just after the break, but if you're situated in Hong Kong, Singapore or South Korea, it looks as if you'll have to wait until April. A real downer, we know.

Motorola said lowering Xoom orders, mulling early sequel
Despite what most companies do after a launch, Motorola is lowering orders for the Xoom in spring and may even be switching devices entirely, part suppliers claimed Tuesday. It was still on track to ship 800,000 by the end of March, but those numbers are now expected to drop rapidly. The alleged sources told Digitimes that it would ship about 300,000 of the Android 3.0 tablets in April, less than that in May, and eventually stop outright in June.

Adobe follows Google, patches major Flash exploit
Adobe has issued a patch for all platforms affected by the critical vulnerability in Flash Player 10.2.152.33 and earlier versions. The Adobe patch follows the updated version of Chrome issued by Google on Monday which included a fix for the issue. Adobe has issued a new bulletin explaining the flaw and the steps that users need to take in order to install the patch. TUAW's Daily App: Buddy Rush
Buddy Rush is an interesting entry to the App Store that's done very well on the Top Paid charts with its microtransaction-based business model. Basically, it's a Diablo-style dungeon crawler, though it's much cuter and more kid-friendly than most hack-and-slash games. It's also a full action RPG, with loot, experience, classes and everything else. The twist here is that it's social. You log in to Facebook when you start off, and you "play" with your friends. They're represented in game by NPCs, but they get rewards when you play with their characters and vice versa.
It's a very interesting concept, and considering that even the text in the game is super kid-friendly, it's a weird genre mix that really appeals to an audience that's hooked right into o

UK 4G spectrum set to be auctioned off next year
Ofcom, the UK version of the FCC, is currently sitting on two fat bands of prime 4G spectrum, at 800MHz and 2.6GHz, but it won't be doing so for long. This morning has seen an announcement from the independent regulator that it's looking to sell off those airwaves to the highest bidder, as early as 2012, pending the conclusion of a consultation on how to ensure the auction helps promote, rather than stifle, competiton. The 800MHz band comes directly from spectrum freed up by the country's transition to digital television, and together with the 2.6GHz is equivalent to three quarters of all the mobile spectrum the UK uses today. Modding the iPad 1 to work with the Smart Cover
If you saw the Smart Cover during that announcement a while back and have really wanted to use it with your iPad 1 instead of buying a whole new iPad 2, you may be in luck. NPD: smartphone buyers lean more towards huge screens
Market research company The NPD Group has published a report showing that smartphone users are leaning towards large screens on their devices. When asked whether they would prefer portability, most users said that they would opt for screen size first. Dolby introduces lighter, cheaper 3D glasses to better compete with RealD and IMAX
Dolby has been working on getting the cost of its 3D glasses down since bringing Infinitec color shift technology to theaters back in '07 and it couldn't wait for CinemaCon 2011 next week before announcing the new models seen above. 8x8x8 LED Cube: Endlich ein 3D-Display ohne optische Sperenzchen

3D hin, 3D her - es kann schon mal nervig werden, wenn man dauernd eine Brille aufsetzen soll oder eine bestimmte Position vor dem Bildschirm eingenommen werden muss, damit die optischen Tricks auch funktioniern. Dagegen ist der 8x8x8 LED Cube, den Nick Schulze zusammengelötet hat, eine gradlinige Angelegenheit, die mittels Arduino und der Mathe-Software Matlab (MATrix LABoratory) von MathWorks echtes 3D zeigt. Leider nur einfarbig und mit 8 Pixeln im Quadrat. Trotzdem schön anzusehen, im Video nach dem Break.

Adobe patches Flash flaw with Acrobat / Reader update
Armageddon averted. Exactly as promised, Adobe has rolled out a fix this week for the zero-day security vulnerability in Flash that had us sweating the world was about to come crashing to an end. It's a somewhat circuitous route to getting your system patched up, however, as you'll need to download an out-of-cycle update for Acrobat and Reader -- the other software affected by this issue. In spite of Apple's grumbling, Amazon's proceeding full steam ahead with the rollout of its Appstore for Android. The switch has just been flipped and early adopters will be welcomed with a free copy of Angry Birds Rio, whose Android launch Amazon scooped all to itself. The Walt Disney Company's annual shareholder meeting may prove more contentious than Apple's recent meeting, with some controversy surrounding the presence (and attendance) of Steve Jobs. T-Mobile pushed hard at CTIA with a midnight unveiling of a slew of expected but high-end devices. The G2X is its adaptation of the LG Optimus 2X and has its dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2, four-inch screen, front camera, and eight-megapixel rear camera. Well surprise surprise. Shortly after our sneak peek on the CTIA show floor, T-Mobile lifted its virtual curtain and announced the G2x, aka LG Optimus 2X elsewhere around the world. Verizon: no interest in buying Sprint to counter AT&T
Verizon's wireless chief Dan Mead in a talk downplayed speculation that his network might buy Sprint as a response to the AT&T buyout of T-Mobile. He argued that Verizon wanted to be profitable first rather than try for more market share. He added to Reuters that Verizon wouldn't stand in the way of the merger, in part because Verizon officials "don't need them" at Sprint but also because he thought the Department of Justice and FCC might force AT&T to give up too many cell sites or privileges to make it worthwhile.

International iPad 2 launch still on track
Apple has confirmed that the iPad 2 launch in the UK is still planned for this Friday, March 25, according to TechRadar. Galaxy Tab 8.9 details spied, break from stock Android 3.0
An amount of spying on the CTIA show floor before it officially opened has revealed many of the details of the Galaxy Tab 8.9, including one of the few instances of companies veering away from the official Android 3.0 interface. Samsung's new tablet will have both "live panels," or extra-large widgets that contain a slew of real-time information. PocketNow in seeing the demo booths also saw a new alternative to Android's multitasking switcher with a "mini apps tray" in place that gives live previews and even allows a basic amount of control.

Sweden-based Snarbsoft is trying to kick-start their own music-oriented social service with the release of Yay!, a program that analyzes a user's existing music library and from that information suggests, recommends and points to other Yay! users who have similar taste. We had the opportunity to get a quick test of a new service from Gogobeans at the ShowStoppers event at CTIA on Monday night. The Android, iPad, and Android app gives you a cloud locker, much akin to Dropbox, but is both more flexible and more interesting to use. It can not only share media but also shares what would normally be a URL; a contact, a website or even an App Store or Android Market title becomes a "bean" that you can push to a friend, who downloads it from your locker rather than from your device.

Find My iPhone leads to a late-night chase in Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv resident Ori Goshen realized the benefit of Find My iPhone when an unexpected late night card ride left him without his iPhone. Goshen hopped into a car with two strangers and gave them directions, using his iPhone, in exchange for a ride closer to his apartment. (Bad decision? Quite possibly.)

MacBook Pro crashes: Apple disables Turbo Boost under Windows?
Apple may have been aware for some time of the problem of new MacBook Pros crashing under heavy loads. Apple has just been granted eleven patents in China on the iPhone 4, according to Patently Apple, and there are some interesting potential consequences for future iPhone design, the site says.
