Netgear announces 3G mobile broadband wireless router for 802.11g's on the go
Netgear didn't go for any fancy-schmancy new form factor with its 3G mobile broadband wireless router, instead opting for the standard shell we know and love. Nine different Sierra and Novatel 3G modems are currently supported, and just plugging one into the USB 2.0 slot will provide you web access via either ethernet LAN or 802.11g. Usual amenities like WEP / WPA encryption are here, and it includes both AC and 12V DC adapters. The router is due out this month for $130. LG to produce 15-inch OLED panel this summer
Has your $2,500 XEL-1 display already started to show a case of the dimming blues? If so, and if you can go without seeing Cookie Monster in his natural hue for a few more months, you may have another OLED replacement option after this summer. LG is indicating it will begin producing a 15-inch panel in June of this year. No word on whether it'll match the Sony's 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, but it will offer a higher resolution of 1,366 x 768, and LG is pledging a 30,000 hour shelf life. We'll see about that.Filed under:

Nokia N810 WiMAX reaches 'end of life'
Well, that certainly was a quick little experiment, wasn't it? Just months after quietly becoming available, Nokia has just as quietly slapped an "end of life" label on the N810 WiMAX Edition, officially ending Nokia's consumer-level support for the wireless standard -- for the time being, anyhow. Though we've been able to confirm that the discontinuation is official, no word was given as to why it fell off the market so quickly -- Nokia inststs that it was a "natural" end of life -- but if we had to take a stab at it, we'd guess the Baltimore-only availability had something to

Samsung's DVD-H1080 looks like a large pebble, plays DVDs
While Samsung's design may be changing in the Blu-ray player department, its latest DVD player pays homage to last year's DVD-F1080. The all new, very pebble-like DVD-H1080 touts the company's Touch of Color design, weighs just over two pounds and is only marginally bigger than the DVDs it will one day play. As expected, the deck features 1080p upscaling to go along with the USB host function which adds support for DivX, MP3 and JPEG files. There's nary a word on price, but it should be landing at your favorite (and least favorite, for the record) retailer in the first half of 2009.

Samsung gets official with P3 PMP at CES 2009
Samsung's P3 has been official in other parts of the globe for awhile now, but the outfit has decided to wait until CES to make it so here in the States. As anticipated, the PMP arrives with its "evolutionary" EmoTure user interface, 4/8/16/32GB of internal storage, haptic feedback, a 3-inch WQVGA display, DNSe 3.0 sound enhancement technology and a Music Hot Touch Key that enables users to instantly access favorite music features / selections without having to wade through multiple menus. The device itself is just 0.39-inches thick, and it also boasts a voice recorder, FM radio and Bluetooth support. Check it sometime during the first half of this year in matte black / matte silver motifs.

Garmin rolls out nuvi 865T, ditches 8x0 series
Garmin already got official with a number of new devices earlier today, but it looks like it's now quietly slipped yet another out the door, with the new nuvi 865T making an appearance on the company's website. From the looks of it, this one is a slightly pared down and more silver version of the just-announced 885T, with it packing the same 4.3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display and Bluetooth functionality, but none of that fancy MSN Direct traffic info and other cloud-based services (though it does have an FM traffic receiver). No word on a price just yet, but we're guessing it'll come in a fair bit below the $800 the 885T demands. As GPS Tracklog poin

Sharp delivers Blu-ray-packing BD-series Aquos LCDs for the US
Credit Sharp for still coming through a few surprises, sure you knew 32- and 42-inch Aquos HDTVs with built-in Blu-ray players, but they filled out the line with the 37-, 46- and 52-inch variations previously seen in Japan (no 26-inch love?) Built around the latest Superlucent ASV panel for reduced glare and bright, crisp picture quality, they didn't forget 24p support on the HDMI jacks, just in case you still want to plug another Blu-ray player in. No price, but with ATSC and QAM tuners plus RS-232C inputs, for a TV in a locations where a connected player doesn't make sense, these aren't a bad option when they ship later this month (32-, 37-, 42-inch) or in February (46-, 52-inch.) Sharp gets with the Profile 2.0 program with the BD-HP16U & BD-HP22U
Many thought that Profile 1.1 players should've died last year, but that just wasn't the case. But those internet content lovin' fools can finally get behind Sharp's Blu-ray players. At this point Sharp realizes that with all the Blu-ray players available, you gotta do something special to get noticed, so Sharp is striving to make its players work better with its line of TVs by automatically putting the display into the optimal viewing setting -- like dot by dot. The only thing that distinguishes these two players from each other is that the BD-HP22U will be out in May, includes 2GB of USB memory, and retails at $299, while the BD-HP16U is due in March for $229.Filed under: CES, HDTV,

Windows 7 beta 64-bit version leaked just in time for Steve Ballmer's keynote

17 inch MacBook Pro Commercial...thoughts
That 17 Laptop is a thing of beauty, no doubt. But we have some reservations. First of all, the five years of battery charges couldn't have been tested (tech didn't exist five years ago). Lithium Polymer might age poorly or differently in different conditions. We are willing to give Apple the benefit of the doubt but know we have been dealt a bit of a wild card.
Next, that enclosure doesn't just enclose the battery but it also encloses the hard drive (see no seams in video below). And you only have a few (Apple only) options out of the box. The biggest drive you can walk away with is a 320GB. You can easily replace an Apple drive on a 13 or 15 with one of the many 500GB 2.5 inch SATA drives out there. Hrmmmph.
Apple also offers SSD drives in 128 and 256 GB sizes for $500 and $900 respectively. We'd also like to replace the SSD if/when we choose to. In a cou

Hands-on with Casio's high-bursting EX-FS10 and EX-FC100 compacts
After the presser, we had the chance to go hands-on with Casio's high-bursting EX-FS10 and EX-FC100 compacts here at CES. The EX-FS10 (pictured above) was particularly impressive considering its small size and 30fps burst mode capability (and 1000fps movie mode for slow motion playback) that puts DSLRs to shame. However, any advantage is bound to end there as that integrated lens and tiny sensor are outclassed by even the lowest end DSLR. Mad Catz rolls out new Saitek Aviator flight sticks for Xbox 360, PS3

From the looks of it, these are mostly identical to the existing Aviator PC flight stick, with the notable exception of the requisite console-specific buttons, and a slightly spiffed-up appearance. As a bonus, each of these will also double as a PC joystick although, naturally, you won't be able to swap 'em between a 360 and a PS3. That, as you're no doubt aware, is twice as fast as the current spec and, according to Maxwell, it'll be backwards compatible with both the SATA-1.5Gb/s and SATA-3Gb/s specs. What's more, it's apparently also the group's intention to double the E-SATA spec to 6Gb/s as well, although no one seems to be making any promises on a date for that just yet. As a bit of a bonus, the group will apparently also be rolling out a new Power over ESATA spec (or ESATAp), which will allow 5 or 12 volts of pow

The rest of Toshiba's CES 2009 extravaganza
We can't definitively say that Toshiba is done after this (never underestimate the depth of CES, friends), but we're bundling up the rest of the middling minutiae from its blowout at CES. If the fresh REGZA HDTV line is just too big, awesome and expensive for your tastes, the company is busting out a smattering of LCD TV combo sets ranging from $299.99 to $549.99. Furthermore, it's introducing a trio of portable DVD players, three DVD players and four DVD recorders. Unlike most of the gear showcased today, Tosh actually bothered to provide prices and ship dates for these, so head on past the break to get those tidbits.Gallery:

Toshiba rolls out new REGZA HDTV line, internet connected crew coming later
CES is in full swing here in Vegas, and Toshiba's taking the liberty of busting out a litany of new REGZA HDTVs. New features include a fresh Deep Lagoon Design, which supposedly provides a "three dimensional feeling to a clear flat design." Furthermore, you'll find invisible speakers and an Infinity Flash Front, and functionally, the InstaPort feature enables HDMI switching to occur in just a fraction of a second. As expected, these sets also offer the Resolution+ Super Resolution Technology and the PixelPure 5G engine, but it's not the new line that's truly intriguing. Instead, we're already anxious to feast our eyes upon the Widget Channel-capable family that'll be introduced later this year; furthermore, these HDTVs will be DLNA certified

Toshiba integrating Extenders for Windows Media Center in new A/V products
Given that Toshiba still refuses to recognize and support Blu-ray, at least it's warming to streaming. Toshiba has quietly announced today that some of its future A/V products will have Extenders for Windows Media Center integrated in; additionally, certain items will also tap into Intel / Yahoo!'s widget channel. We're told that this functionality (dubbed Network Player) will eventually find its way into REGZA HDTVs and a still mysterious standalone player, but you won't see either until the second half of this year. Bummer. Full release is after the break.

Verizon to embrace Kindle rivals, third party devices
Looks like Amazon may soon be getting some competition for the hearts of the Kindle-loving literati over at the Algonquin. In a pre-CES interview with Reuters, Verizon's Tony Lewis -- the man in charge of their Open Development program -- doesn't see the current state of the economy as halting production of e-readers or other nonessential consumer electronics. "Competitors to the Kindle are out there and ready," the man said. "In 2009 I'd expect them to come to the market." To date, the company's certified 29 third party devices to run on the carrier, a new attitude that seems to have come about when they realized the bucketfuls of c

JVC debuts 42-inch LT-42WX70 LCD HDTV: covers 96% of AdobeRGB color space
While everyone else seems to be cutting back on energy consumption and adding some form of connectivity, JVC is doing something quite different with its 42-inch LT-42WX70. The 1080p LCD HDTV supposedly targets DSLR users by encompassing 100 percent of HDTV broadcasting's (sRGB.904) color space and a coverage rate of 96 percent for Adobe RGB -- much like those "pro LCD monitors" we see so often. You'll also find 52 picture quality adjustments properties, the company's own GENESSA Picture Engine, 120Hz Clear Motion Drive III, 4,000:1 contrast ratio, HDMI CEC support and a low-profile tuner (TU-CX100) that can be "separated from the monitor and placed horizontally or stood vertically on a tabletop, or hung on the wall." Memorex introduces TouchMP portable media player
Memorex's portable media players aren't exactly always attention-grabbers, but it looks like the company's new TouchMP model could be a slight exception, if only for the fact that it's a full-on touchscreen PMP for $99 (and no doubt less after retailers start their usual discounting). For that price, you'll get a 2.8-inch QVGA display, along with 8GB of storage, a microSD card slot for additional expansion, an FM radio, and all the usual media playback options, including podcast support. Somewhat notably, the device also "adaptable" to both portrait or landscape modes, although it's not clear if it actually makes use of an accelerometer or not. Look for this one to hit all the usual sources sometime in March.

TI's DLP Pico technology unveiled in new round of pico projectors

The aforesaid chipset is currently residing within the WowWee Cinemin line and Optoma's PK-101, but here's something you didn't know. Evidently, the chip will also be a critical part of pico projectors from Samsung (the MBP200 with an SD card slot), BenQ (the GP1 with an integrated USB port; available in March for $599) and Toshiba (TDP-F10U Mobile LED Projector). Also of note, BUG Labs will presumably be introducing a module of its own dubbed BUGprojector, which will enable legible beaming of 480 x 320 images at just eight inches away along with stereo playback and a brightness of 9 lumens. Palm's new website devoid of dedicated PDAs
Palm is kicking off the new year with an all-new site (worthy of an entirely new platform, perhaps?), and while that's not really news in and of itself, it's interesting to see that they've now completely cleansed the most visible pages of traditional PDAs -- you know, those crazy things Palm made its name building. The move was expected since Colligan announced last year that they'd be moving to a phone-only model, but what wasn't expected was the optical illusion Palm's trying to pull here. Seriously, the depth of field makes the 800w looks like an 800w nano, which, you know, isn't an entirely accurate representation.Filed under: Cellphone

MacWorld Expo 09: iMovie hands-on
So, what's new with iMovie 09?
Well, at first sight, not much: the interface is quite similar and you could be lulled into thinking it is a minor update.
But fear not, Apple has seriously revamped iMovie, after down-vamping it between iMovie HD and iMovie 08.
The first thing is that now you can activate "advanced features", and get many more fine tuning options.
Amongst the new features, let's mention a few.
Green screen: OK, this might be a bit "gadget" and we sort of saw it coming with iChat's "blue screen" feature, but it does work fine (although it seems it's not really easy to find how to use it, as the Apple staffer I was talking with could not find how to do it). I had a look at a greenscreened video and if it's not pro-quality, it certainly does the trick.
Precision editing: this allows you to do fine editing, going down all to way to the frame level.

Despite the announcement of new versions of iLife and iWork, as well as a 17-inch unibody MacBook Pro, the most important revelation is said to be the switch to DRM-free music and variable pricing at iTunes. Even this may have minimal impact, Needham suggests.

Zeiss aktualisiert Cinemizer Videobrille

Garmin's new nüvi 885T, zūmo 660 and G5 GPS units for drivers, bikers and golfers
Garmin's gone all diversity-happy on us this morning with three new chock-full-o-features portable GPS devices. The nüvi 885T is the real flagship here, offering speech recognition, lane assist junction view and MSN Direct traffic info and other cloud-based services. The unit centers on a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 touchscreen, and offers up Bluetooth for hands-free calling and an FM transmitter to pump turn-by-turn instructions and music through your car stereo. Unfortunately, the hotness doesn't come cheap: the 855T goes for $800, with an MSN and Bluetoothless version going for $700. The zūmo 660 is built for motorcycle types, with a 4.3-inch glove and sunlight-friendly touchscreen display. There's Bluetooth for pumping turn-by-turn directions to your helmet headset, and more of that lane assist goodness, but the $800 pricetag might quell your enthusiasm.

Nur der Kabelsalat und das ständige an- und abstöpseln diverser Stecker könnten auf Dauer etwas störend sein. Das dachten sich auch die Entwickler von BookEndz und bauten ein Dock für die aktuellen MacBooks.

According to Intel's Jeff Ravencraft, the spec is designed to last for the next five years, with room to pump 25 gigabits per second over a hypothetical optical connection. Sounds sexy

Elgato refreshes its EyeTV Hybrid tuner
It's been almost a year since Elgato refreshed its EyeTV Hybrid tuner, and while the addition of better reception and a FM radio tuner aren't earth-shattering, it's awfully hard to complain about how much the company has crammed into the Cear-QAM 1080i-tuning USB stick aimed at Mac users. The $150 dongle includes a year-long subscription to TV Guide for your scheduling convenience, but you'll have to fork over $20 per year for the service after that. There will be a new 3.1 version of EyeTV available later this month, but you can pick up the fresh hardware right now.Filed

Pioneer's TAD shows off a new Blu-ray audio format at CES
Technical Audio Devices (TAD), a subsidiary of Pioneer, has a little something to show audiophiles that may lure them away from their CD transports yet -- a new 2-channel audio format for Blu-ray discs that it unapologetically claims "rivals 2-channel analog sound." We're not sure if that means reel-to-reel or vinyl is in the crosshairs, but the company is putting its apparently-unnamed format up for demo at CES. The demos are being hosted by none other than audiophile classic Sheffield Labs recording engineers Bill Schnee and Doug Sax, who have picked out some choice cuts to be played on pro-level TAD Compact Reference monitors and associated electro

$179 to replace the battery of the 17 inch MBP
Source : GizmodoAn Apple spokesman told Gizmodo that the change of the battery for the new MacBook Pro 17" would cost $179 with the After-Sales service. This price is reasonable, since the price of the battery must must be a large part of the cost, given its capacity.
Apple may be slightly optimistic nevertheless (or maybe not) by indicating it should last 5 years at a rate of 200 cycles per annum, which may be a tad on the low side. For comparison, for the machine on which Lionel has written these lines (15" unibody) , has already 80 cycles in less than 3 months and will have some certainly more than 350 in one year. However since this new battery has a significant larger capacity this 350 should be reduced and maybe the 200 per year is not so unreasonable.
Thus even with this intensive use, it could last 5 years, which is altogether interesting.

Okay, so we were actually pretty stoked about SanDisk's 16GB Ultra microSDHC / M2 cards, but this is just laughable. In fact, we just had to pass it along for the image alone. For those who don't understand that any SD card will work in your Wii, the 2GB Rock Band 2 Secure Digital card will reportedly hold up to 75 downloadable songs -- or 2GB of anything, actually. For those in love with the logo (yes, we're talking to you), it'll ship this Spring for the low, low price of $12.99. Full release is after the break.Continue reading SanDisk releases 2GB Rock Band 2 SD card for all your downloadable conte

Kogan's Android-powered Agora gets handled on video
Color us believers, friends. Not only did we catch the Agora in full glorious -- albeit blurry -- color yesterday, we're now seeing it handled by some lucky type who owns a video cam that's able to focus. We're pretty stoked about this device and with a dash of luck we may have a chance to check it out ourselves in the next few days. Video follows the break.[Thanks, Vuki]

Samsung's HZ10W arrives early with ultra-wide 24mm lens
Ooops. Samsung's 10.2 megapixel HZ10W camera has leaked onto the Internets a bit early. The wide-angle lens goes extra-wide with its 24mm (not 28mm) Schneider with 10x optical zoom stabilized with both optical and digital anti-shake tech. It also captures 720p video at 30fps in H.264 format to SDHC cards if that's your thing. In addition to a presumably useful array of automatic face detection, Smile Shot (shoots a photo when the subject smiles) and Blink Detection (triggers 3x shots if a blink is detected), the camera also features manual control over shutter speed, focus, aperture, and ISO settings. T-Mobile bringing the BlackBerry Curve 8900 in February
Sprint's now officially holding up the tail end of the BlackBerry train in the States (though hopefully not for long) now that T-Mobile has announced that the thoroughly modern Curve 8900 is hitting the lineup. Like the 8320 before it, the 8900 does WiFi for UMA-based HotSpot calling service and a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the similarities end there; besides arguably becoming the hottest BlackBerry in RIM's stable, the 8900 features a 3.2-megapixel cam with image stabilization and a glorious 480 x 360 d

REDFLY working on Android proof-of-concept
While REDFLY isn't exactly the picture of consumer relevance with its Windows Mobile integration, they're showing off an Android proof-of-concept that's exactly the sort of magic that could make this hardware lovable. The REDFLY folks have tweaked Android to output to the 800 x 480 resolution, and have a working cursor -- something we haven't seen in similar hacks. Hands on with iPhoto 09
So, with so little hardware news (if a 17" laptop can be considered "little"), the Apple booth was all about iLife and iWork.
I spent some quality time with iPhoto 09, alone and talking with an Apple staffer (who was a photo geek too), and here are my impressions.
For me, the main new feature is the integrated geotagging of pictures. Simply clicking on places in the source list shows a map displaying the world with pins indicating where you shot your pictures (in a very iPhone-ish style).

Powermat hands-on
Remember the Powermat? The contraption came out touting induction-based "wireless power" for juicing up your devices and then dropped out of the public eye, resurfacing now as a collaborative effort by Michigan-based HoMedics Powermat North America (HPNA). We finally got a chance to see it work in person and, much to our surprise, it seems to have delivered on its promised at least in part. We saw three pads that touched base with six different mediators for charging various cell phones, laptops, and handheld games. The devices magnetically "lock on" to the mats and a light comes on to indicate its working. The rep told us devices charge just as fast with the mat

TiVo has a new Search
In the world of consumer electronics we have come very accustomed to seeing evolutionary instead of revolutionary changes. This can make it very hard to discern what's new, so when we received the latest news from TiVo, we really had to read it carefully. After a very thorough analysis we've determined that there really isn't that much new about the new TiVo Search. But now that we've got an official glimpse of this new image rich UI, we wish TiVo wou

Celio takes REDFLY franchise to docks and PC software
If you're crazy stoked about hooking up your X1 to a big ol' monitor and keyboard but you're not nearly as stoked about buying into one of Celio's dedicated REDFLY boxes, the company's announcing two new solutions that might fit the bill. First up, the aptly-named REDFLY PC Software brings all the spoils of your WinMo-based handset to any XP- or Vista-based system of your choice -- which, let's be honest, is probably a pretty limited-appeal solution unless you're dealing with some wild software package that's only available on your phone. Next up is the more interesting of the two -- the Smartphone Dock -- that basically takes a full-fledged REDFLY lappie and strips out all the human-interface stuff; in other words, bring your own keyboard and monitor.

Hitachi "Unlimited" CES theme shows some realistic boundaries for 2009
Hitachi asked itself "what if?" prior to CES 2009, and its best idea included a "Style-Unlimited" corner for its booth, said to feature design ideas that match the craftsmanship of its TVs with stands and frames made of Japanese lacquer and gold leaf. Immediately refocusing on "what is" -- a questionable economy and wary buyers -- the 2009 line of UT HDTVs will expand primarily by carrying a more mainstream pricetag and now standard 1080p / 120Hz features. For those still living the dream, Hitachi's managed to narrowly beat its previous best with a 15mm thick 37-inch LED

Although they were quite scarce, I had some hands-on time with the new 17 MacBook Pro.
On first contact, it does not look that big, at least when you compare it to the way the old 17-incher compared to the old MacBook Pros maybe it's the tapered edges, I don't know. Surprisingly, it feels heavier than it looks (those damn edges again!), and you really feel the extra pound compared to the 15" model. No sooner does HP announce the Mini 2140 than we get reviews from two lucky outlets who seemed to have fallen in love with the netbook. While it retains the sturdy case, ExpressCard / 54 slot, and not-quite-full-sized keyboard that reviewers loved with its predecessor, it also has the awkward, narrow touchpad and side-mounted vertical buttons. Performance is said to be on par with other Intel Atom N270 machines, and while high marks go to the larger screen, Computer Shopper says the 1024 x 576 resolution gave some smaller letters a bluish "halo" effect when compared to the Eee PC 1002HA's 1024 x 600 screens. The next generation of HDMI actually adds some welcomed features
Every year we stop by and talk to HDMI and every year there's not much new. But finally we are happy to say there are some cool new things coming to the HDMI spec in 2009. Of course it will carry more pixels than the old version and then there is a new smaller connection -- no not that one -- but neither of those really get us excited. The real interesting additions once again fit into the "why wasn't that there before" category. This includes an actual real high speed data Ethernet connection, and we're happy to report that unlike the current data HDMI supports, this isn't in the blanking interval. But that isn't the most interesting feature -- although it might end up being the most, depending on how it's implemented -- the most welcome addition is the audio return channel. Any wh

UiRemote is like a remote... in your iPhone
Yeah, sure, name any IR-equipped phone in existence and odds good to excellent that you can find a universal remote app for it, but you probably can't think of many for the iPhone, now, can you? They exist, yes, but they tend to carry a home-automation slant since the lack of an infrared port leaves the thing relegated to WiFi duty. Enter UiRemote, an ambitious little project undertaken by a handful of scrappy University of Toronto students that uses a fingertip-sized IR blaster connected to the headphone jack paired with a totally customizable app to get the job done. Novel? Not necessarily, but when you consider that a dedicated remote with these specs would probably run half a grand,

Seagate's Barracuda 7200.12 HD packs 500GB per platter
Around 1.5 years ago, we were all sitting around in awe of the ultra-dense Barracuda 7200.10. Now, Seagate has doubled up on that gigabyte-per-platter milestone with the Barracuda 7200.12. As of this week, the desktop hard drive with the industry's highest areal density (329 Gigabits per square inch, for those curious) is shipping, as the firm's engineers have somehow figured out how to squeeze 500GB onto a single disk. The 3.5-inch 7,200RPM drive touts a SATA interface, a sustai

Macworld '09: a show of no-shows
With Phil doing the honors, nobody really thought Apple was planning on revolutionizing anything this morning -- sure, there were plenty of rumors, like always, but most people weren't expecting the moon. What we were expecting, however, was for Apple to come clean on a few things, so bear with us as we file this missing persons report.Notably absent:

Pharos rolls out Traveler 137, coming this quarter for $599.95
3.5's the magic number with Pharos' new Windows Mobile-based offering: 3.5-inch display -- wide VGA, no less -- and 3.5G data. The Traveler 137 rolls deep with the best HTC has to offer (owing in no small part to their ODM partnership with Inventec, we figure) with 512MB of Flash, 256MB of RAM, AGPS, 7.2Mbps HSPA, WiFi, 3-megapixel cam, and the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure. Kinda sounds like a keyboardless X1, doesn't it? Look for it to hit retailers this quarter for a nickel under $600.Filed under: Cellphones, Hand

Lok8u launches Nu•M8 GPS child locator watch at CES
Little known Lok8u has traveled all the way from the UK to be in Vegas this week, but it's certainly not for the despicable reasons you think. In fact, the locations services company is setting up shop at CES in order to debut its Nuo.M8 GPS child locator, a so-called "innovative new best friend for parents and children." The device is said to be the first of its kind created specifically to be worn by children with the technology "cleverly concealed within a child's digital watch." Granted, the styling is questionable for youngsters over 9 or 10, but by that age they ought to be toting their very own beeper, right? Of note, the watch will also send an alert if it's ever "forcibly removed," though it'll cost you £
