Apple not sure it can meet iMac demand this quarter

It's no secret that Apple has been having difficulty meeting demand for some of its key products as of late, something that directly corresponded to a 17% drop in Mac sales for the first quarter of 2013. Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned during today's earning call that while the company will finally meet demand for iPad mini in Q2, things aren't quite so certain for either model of the late 2012 iMac. "We believe we can achieve a supply/demand balance on iPad mini during this quarter and on iPhone 4 during this quarter," Cook said. Daily iPhone App: Wave Trip flies through a musical world

Wave Trip is the newest title from developer Lucky Frame, probably best known for the underrated rhythm-meets-tower defense game Bad Hotel. In the same way that Bad Hotel is a tower defense game, Wave Trip is sort of a Jetpack Joyride-style platformer, in that you're navigating around the screen trying to collect coins of a sort. You can hold down a finger on the right side of the screen to move a little ship up or down, and then holding down a finger on the left side gives you a temporary shield, which you can use to knock away obstacles as you go. Hitting obstacles or collecting coins makes a musical noise when you do it, and that's how each level's "song" is con

Apple's iCloud user base breaks 250 million

That's not particularly surprising, since signing up for a free iCloud account is part of the setup process when you purchase any new Apple product. What is surprising is how quickly the service has grown, jumping from 85 million in January of 2012 to triple that number in 2013. The company is investing in the data centers used for iCloud. Part of the discussion with analysts yesterday afternoon dealt with capital expenditures, with Apple planning to spend money on three primary targets -- retail stores, equipment for suppliers and data centers.

League of Legends Mac client re-emerges, coming soon

I first got to see League of Legends running on the Mac a few years ago, but a few months after that, the game's Mac client still wasn't available to the public. Riot then confirmed that it was ending work on a client for the popular MOBA title, but it looks like that wasn't completely true. In a forum post, the company has suddenly announced that it's readying a Mac client for an open beta soon, which means that Mac gamers will finally get to play the popular

This isn't the end of earnings season, but this is the final member of the unholy trinity. Microsoft is reporting that during the second quarter of its 2013 financial year it set a revenue record by raking in $21.5 billion. Of that $6.38 billion was pure profit, lining shareholder's pockets to the tune of $0.76 per share. While EPS was down year-over-year, net income was up dramatically from $5.87 billion a year ago and $5.31 billion last quarter. AT&T lost $3.9 billion in Q4 2012, earned $7.3 billion profit for the year

American telecommunications giant AT&T announced its Q4 2012 financial results this afternoon, which reflect $3.9 billion in losses for Ma Bell's final fiscal quarter of last year. However, the company's also posting "record smartphone sales" of 10.2 million last quarter -- "the most by any US carrier," it claims. As it's Q4, the results for the full year are also in; AT&T revealed $7.3 billion in net income across the entirety of 2012. That's what we'd call a marked change from last year's losses. In terms of phones, AT&T a

Cook: don't put a lot of stock in AAPL rumors

Both CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer took time in today's conference call with analysts to specifically (or by inference) debunk a number of recent rumours about the company, and to suggest to analysts that they rely too heavily on bad information -- and that even when they do get a bit of gossip that turns out to be true, they are unable to see the information in the broader context, which may change its interpretation. It was a rare direct assault on the market-manipulation and other forces that have plagued the company and its stock.
