Tether for iPhone returns as an HTML5 app

Last year, iTether hit the App Store and was promptly pulled when Apple discovered it let customers share their phone's mobile broadband connection without paying for a carrier tethering plan. After a few months of inactivity, Tether is now back as an HTML5 app. The new HTML5 version of Tether creates a wireless connection using an ad-hoc network. This avoids any App Store issues and lets you connect your laptop to an iPhone with a mobile broadband connection. Battleheart developer drops Android as 'unsustainable'

Battleheart's creator Mika Mobile in an update explained that it was dropping Android support. Google's platform was losing money for the company, since it spent about 20 percent of its time supporting the platform but only ever made five percent or less of the company's revenue. An eBay auction has resurfaced a very rare prototype from Apple's earlier history. The WALT (Wizzy Active Lifestyle Telephone), unveiled at Macworld Boston in 1993 but never shipped, was to have been a feature boost to a traditional landline phone, in this case BellSouth. It had a stylus-driven touchscreen and ran a heavily modified System 6 with Hypercard replacing the Finder to supply not just basics like contacts but banking, faxing, and a message pad.

Researchers capture first-ever images of atoms moving inside a molecule

Cook responds to user e-mail, says Siri will speak Italian

An Italian Apple user who asked Apple CEO Tim Cook if he did not "like" Italy because Siri has yet to add Italian to its list of languages and because Italy wasn't in the group of "first day" launch countries for the iPhone and iPad has received a reply from Cook. Third-generation iPad costs lowers Apple margin slightly

A study analyzing just the hardware costs of the 2012 iPad shows a basic Bill of Materials (BOM) cost of $310 in components, up $34 from the BOM of the previous iPad. The estimate, which does not account for other costs such as software, distribution and marketing, shows that Apple's "margin" on the iPad when the hardware cost is subtracted stands at about 51 percent, down from the 57 percent of the first two models.

Canon has sent out invitations for an April 15 event ahead of the NAB media production expo in Las Vegas. Saying only that "the story continues," it uses the same theme as the Cinema EOS event from November. As part of its ongoing patent battle with Samsung, Apple has reportedly hired 73 contract attorneys and 20 reviewers of Korean-American descent to sift through the growing mountain of Korean-language documents provided by the Galaxy Tab maker.
