PlayStation Network restoration spreads to Europe and the Middle East
Now that North America has been thoroughly blanketed in the beautiful green light of a working PlayStation Network, it's time for other countries to sign on too, and the first out of the gate are the United Kingdom, Ireland and unspecified nations in the Middle East. Bye-5: Gib dem Lichtschalter High Five
Bye-5 ist ein Lichtschalter, der sowohl erzieherischen, als auch Unterhaltungswert haben will. So soll der leuchtende Lichtschalter in Handform mit einer hautähnlichem, weichen Oberfläche dazu animieren, immer das Licht auszumachen, wenn man den Raum verlässt, Abklatschen mit dem Lichtschalter also. Könnte bei Berührungsphobikern allerdings auch den gegenteiligen Effekt haben.

Samsungs Galaxy S II bietet ja nicht gerade viel Anlass zu Kritik, ab jetzt aber noch einen weniger: laut Android Community ist ein neues über Kies erhältliches Firmware-Update da, dass die übereifrige Autohelligkeitsfunktion beseitigt. Außerdem soll die Version i9100XWKE2 die Reaktionsfreudigkeit der Swype-Tastatur verbessern, hört sich also nach einem sinvollen Update an.

RIM ruft 900 BlackBerry PlayBooks zurück

Auch wenn das BlackBerry PlayBook allgemein einen soliden Eindruck macht, scheint es eine Charge mit Problemen gegeben zu haben, die an den amerikanischen Retailer Staples ging. Das hat eine interne Quelle unseren US-Kollegen gesagt, die betroffenen PlayBooks sollen von RIM zurückgerufen worden sein. Samsungs faltbares AMOLED Display: 100000 mal knicken kein Problem

Samsungs Advanced Institute of Technology hat einen Prototypen eines faltbaren AMOLED-Displays, das auch nach hunderttausend mal falten keine sichtbare Abnutzung hat, auch wenn es sechs Prozent seiner Helligkeit verliert. Dabei sind die AMOLEDs in zwei Schichten versetzt angebracht, damit sich das Display falten lässt, dazwischen ist eine Schicht Silikon, oben drauf eine Schutzschicht aus Glas, die als Touchscreen genutzt werden kann. Könnte praktisch sein für ein faltbares Smartphone oder ein großes Tablet, das sich trotzdem in die Hosentasche stecken lässt.

More evidence of camera flash changes in next iPhone
Earlier we reported on a rumored "iPhone 5" case which suggested that Apple has decided to move the iPhone's camera flash farther away from the camera lens. Now Asian Apple site Apple.pro has posted images comparing the iPhone 4's camera components with purported iPhone 5 (or iPhone 4S) camera components.
The alleged iPhone 5 camera components show that the rear camera does not come with a flash attached as it does in the iPhone 4. These images in addition to the earlier iPhone 5 case suggests that the next iPhone will indeed sport minor

NVIDIA: Android tablets struggling because of retail, apps
Android 3.0 tablets aren't selling well because their creators don't understand retail, NVIDIA chief Jen-Hsun Huang said in a talk conducted on Thursday. He believed that early manufacturers, so far including Acer, ASUS, Dell, LG, and Motorola, didn't understand how to sell their tablets at retail. Although not mentioning Apple by name, he implied to CNET that the iPad's lower pricing, clearer marketing, and better buying experience at retail were all impacting the chances of tablets like the Motorola Xoom, which he singled out as an example of what went wrong.

Aero Train: Elektrischer Zug schwebt mit 200 km/h knapp über dem Boden (Video)

Ein japanisches Forscherteam unter der Leitung von Yusuke Sugahara an der Tohoku Universität hat den Aero Train entwickelt, ein Zug der nur knapp über dem Asphalt schwebt und dabei eine Geschwindigkeit von 200 km/h erreicht. Der Zug fährt in einer U-förmigen Trasse und nutzt den Bodeneffekt, durch den unter ihm und an den Seiten eine Art Luftpolster entsteht. Der Aero Train soll, falls er denn das Prototypenstadium verlässt, nach dem Willen der Forscher in einem mit Solarzellen bestückten Tunnel fahren, der gleich die nötige Energie einsammelt und an den Zug weitergibt. Nach und nach geht das Playstation Network nach dem großen Datendesaster seit gestern wieder online, Qriocity ist auch dabei. Phasenweise werden mehr und mehr User wieder zugeschaltet, nachdem Sony die komplette Sicherheitsstruktur umgebaut hat. Sonys Kazuo Hirai hat sich in einem Video (nach dem Break) zu den Neuerungen geäußert und nochmal bei den Usern entschuldigt. Abseits von WoW gibt es tatsächlich noch einige andere erfolgreiche MMORPGs, eines davon ist trotz des Namens DOFUS des französischen Publishers Ankama. Reading List in Lion for Safari shown syncing to iOS
Apple's newly active Reading List in Safari for Lion Developer Preview 3 is now known to be syncing with iOS devices. Handheld owners syncing Safari bookmarks either through iTunes or through MobileMe are now seeing a rough "com.Apple.ReadingList" folder in their bookmarks list with the relevant articles loaded inside. It's presumed a later preview or the final version of Lion will give the folder a new name and possibly treat it differently in software through an iOS version of the Reading List.

A clock of all trades for your iPad
There's no shortage of clocks and timers for the iPad. One of the most complete is Clock Pro for the iPad, which is on sale this weekend for US$1.99.
Clock Pro is an alarm clock and uses notifications so you can get that important wake-up alert without leaving the app running. There is both an analog and digital clock design, a chess clock, a world clock, sunrise, sunset and tide clocks, a sleep timer, an egg timer and a countdown clock. Most clocks can run full screen and are beautifully rendered. We took a brief look at this app last year when it was $5.99 and gave it a positive review. Now it supports multi-tasking, and it's 4 bucks cheaper.

RIM recalls at least 900 faulty BlackBerry PlayBooks, here are the serial numbers
We found the BlackBerry PlayBook to be a pretty solid piece of hardware, but it seems there was a problem batch -- an inside source tells us that nearly 1,000 faulty tablets were shipped to Staples, and now they're being recalled. Nächstes iPhone mit verändertem Blitz?
Ein Hüllenhersteller hat auf Alibaba.com eine Hülle für das „iPhone 5g“ im Inventar, welche Änderungen gegenüber dem iPhone 4 zeigt. Zwei Dinge fallen neben dem fatal zusammengebauten Screenshot auf. Zum einen geht das Display bis zum Rand, könnte also auf ein kommendes 3,7 Zoll-Display deuten. Doch das Display geht auch in anderen Produktfotos des Verkäufers ganz bis zum Rand, somit ist das eher unklar. Zum anderen aber ist neben der Aussparung für die Kamera eine zweite Aussparung auf der anderen Seite des Geräts zu finden, welche vermutlich für den Blitz vorgesehen ist:

Nuance voices found in Lion Developer Preview 3
Yesterday, we told you that Apple had seeded Lion Developer Preview 3 to developers. We noted at the time that among the new features in Developer Preview 3 were a new boot animation, new graphical elements in the Finder's toolbar, new desktop wallpapers and that Reading List is now enabled in Safari. Other details of the latest Lion preview have emerged, but perhaps the most important is that Nuance voices have been discovered in the OS itself.

PlayStation 3 system update 3.61 available now, PSN still not ready for games
Ladies and gentlemen, your PS3 may technically be able to connect to PlayStation Network now, but we're not through the woods yet -- today, Sony is issuing a mandatory System Update (v3.61) which will prepare your game machine for that magical day when the company actually throws the switch. In the meanwhile, Sony says the update will prompt you to change your PlayStation Network password, which will likely rank among the easiest decisions that you've ever made.

Claimed next-gen iPhone parts back redesigned cameras
A case manufacturer's claims that the next iPhone would have redesigned cameras was supported late Saturday with a new sighting. Coming once more from a California source for Apple.pro, the shot shows what's described as "iPhone 5" camera parts but visibly different than what's available today. The rear camera's part is the most telling as it no longer has a flash directly attached to the sensor and reinforced a new claim that the flash would be at the opposite top corner.

Mopho DJ uses your iPhone to track turntable movement (instead of your movements)
We have to admit, we never thought of this one -- and it's pretty, pretty slick. Instead of using time-coded vinyl to interface your turntable with your computer as with Final Scratch Pro or Serato Scratch, Nicholas J. Bryan's Mopho DJ uses an iPhone. That's right, our man at Stanford University literally affixes his smartphones to his decks via a perspex disc and some sort of adhesive. The smartphones each run an app which sends accelerometer and gyroscope data to a computer, which then adjusts playback of your music accordingly. Purported 'iPhone 5' case reveals minor changes in next iPhone
On Friday, a rumor broke that the next iPhone will be called the iPhone 4S and it will primarily retain the same form factor with a few minor cosmetic changes and some new interior parts. Now today, GadgetsDNA posted a photo of a case purportedly for the iPhone 5, which shows a re-located camera flash.

iPhone 4, App Store & iOS-Spiele bekommen Guinness World Records
Mehrere Guinness World Records wurden heute an Apple vergeben, einer davon an das iPhone 4, drei an den App Store und je einen an Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies und die Tap Tap Revenge-Reihe. Das iPhone 4 wurde so als die bestverkaufende mobile Spiele-Konsole ausgezeichnet, alleine am Launch-Tag, dem 24. Juni im letztem Jahr, wurden etwa 1,5 Millionen Geräte verkauft. Zum Vergleich, die Sony PSP verkaufte am Launch-Tag nur 200.000 Einheiten, der Nintendo DS 500.000 innerhalb der ersten Woche im November 2004. Clearwire ditches plans to produce phones, satisfied Sony Ericsson drops logo lawsuit
We thought Clearwire might have had a chance at legal victory against Sony Ericsson, but the wireless carrier has apparently dropped out of the ring. Clearwire told a federal court it no longer plans to produce a smartphone -- which basically nullified Sony Ericsson's worry that upcoming Clearwire handsets would oh-so-similar swirling orb logo.
