The race for ever-tinier computer chips is on, and barring physical limitations, doesn't seem to be slowing anytime soon -- but with chips, as with humans, the smaller they get, the more fragile they become. iPad 2 lineups still hundreds long a week later

Anecdotal reports from would-be iPad 2 buyers on Friday have suggested no slowdown in demand a week after the launch. Lineups at the 5th Avenue store in New York City or The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas (pictured) are still ranging into the dozens or hundreds. One MacRumors reader noted that the line never appeared to shrink and that it was using the barriers to control the lineups and manage expectations for stock.

Apple faces criticism over "anti-gay" iOS app

Apple has been criticized by gay rights organizations for approving an iOS app submitted by Exodus International, a church group that reportedly promotes 'anti-gay' religious views. The app simply links to Exodus International's website, which contains a variety of content focused on the group's mission of "mobilizing the body of Christ to minister grace and truth toward a world impacted by homosexuality."

Ads in Angry Birds cause some squawking

Google guesstimates release dates for movies and games

You can already do plenty of calculations and conversions right in Google's search box, and it looks like the company's now made it even smarter still. Searching for the title of an upcoming movie or video game plus "release date" will now instantly give you Google's best guess for when the title will actually be released, which is apparently based on how often it's been mentioned on certain websites. So far, we've only been able to get it to work with movies and games, although it seems pretty likely that it will soon expand to other areas as well -- maybe even gadgets? AT&T has slashed prices for its range of first-generation iPads equipped with 3G radios, bringing $100 discounts for each model. We've already heard a fair bit about RIM's plans for NFC-based mobile payments, but it's starting to look like some of those plans don't quite line up with what the carriers have in mind. Energizer puts out universal, single-zone Qi device chargers

Energizer detailed plans to soon release a universal single-zone charger based on the Wireless Power Consortium's Qi standard. This will include a single-zone inductive charger that can work with the company's recent iPhone 4 sleeve. According to TwinCities.com, Robert Stephens, resident of Minneapolis and co-founder of Geek Squad (now owned by Best Buy), was driving to work when he witnessed a rather large gas explosion. Arctic Spas shows off hot tub-controlling iPhone app, waterproof iPhone case sold separately (video)

Frankly, a few things in life are just too hard. Taxes being one of them, and moving from one's spot in a hot tub to adjust the temperature and / or jet pressure being another. AT&T targets jailbroken iPhone, Android tethering users

AT&T has begun sending messages to iPhone and possibly Android users it believes are tethering without paying for a matching plan. The notices tell subscribers that their service "may need updating" with the 4GB DataPro tethering plan since it believed they were using tethering but were still on one of the device-only plans. RSA: Hacker stehlen Informationen über Authentifizierungssystem SecurID

Der Sicherheitsspezialist RSA hat seine Kunden in einem offenen Brief darüber informiert, selbst das Ziel einer "extrem raffinierten Hackerattacke" geworden zu sein. Pingdom — ein Dienst mit welchem man die Uptime eigener Webserver überwachen kann — hat sich die Statistiken von StatCounter unter die Lupe genommen: Man wollte in Erfahrung bringen, in welchen Ländern Mac OS X am meisten ‘Marktanteil’ geniesst. StatCounter ist, ähnlich Net Applications, ein Dienst der Webseitenbesuche analysiert. Zum Index von StatCounter gehören über 3 Millionen Webseiten aus der ganzen Welt. Die Resultate der Pingdom-Analyse sind zumindest bei den obersten Plätzen nicht überraschend: Die Schweiz liegt mit 17.61 Prozent auf dem ersten Platz, gefoglt von Luxembourg mit 15.79 und den USA mit 15.36 Prozent. Mac marketshare strongest in northern Europe, stats find

Pingdom, an uptime and web-performance analysis company, has compiled statistics on "desktop OS" marketshare based on data from StatsCounter with a particular focus on Apple, and discovered that Macs are most popular in Switzerland and Luxembourg, both of which are ahead of Apple's home country the United States in terms of market penetration per capita. The stats also provide the clearest picture (apart from Apple's own internal-only sales data) of worldwide marketshare for the company when it comes to its core business -- the Mac.

OnStar mobile app extends support to 14 new vehicles

General Motors has announced that 14 of its 2010-model-year vehicles are now supported by the OnStar mobile applications. The expanded list includes the Cadillac DTS, Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT; the Buick Enclave and Lucerne; the GMC Acadia, Yukon, and Yukon XL; and the Chevrolet Avalanche, IMpala, Suburban, Tahoe and Traverse.

Credit Suisse initiates AAPL coverage on up and down day

AAPL shares got slapped silly before market open this morning after a JMP Securities analyst initiated a rare downgrade on AAPL stock yesterday due to assumed problems with Apple's ability to manage the supply chain for its iOS devices in the wake of the disaster in Japan. But not soon after the AAPL sell-off, many other analysts came to Apple's defense, including Barclays Capital's Ben Reitzes. Reitzes stated that the perceived effect of the troubles in Japan were overblown in relation to how Apple's supply chain would be affected. Sprint rolls out smaller, eight-user Overdrive Pro 3G/4G

Sprint took a second turn at its mainstay pocketable 4G router on Thursday with the Overdrive Pro. The 3G and 4G hybrid hotspot now supports as many as eight devices on WiMAX, up from five. Speed has improved as well; the Sierra Wireless-made hardware now starts up or shuts down about 35 percent faster.

Cut the Rope wins at BAFTAs

Cut the Rope is still one of my favorite games on the App Store, and apparently the folks at the British Academy of Film and Television agree -- they've honored the game as the Best Handheld Game of 2010. It's actually quite an honor for Chillingo and developer ZeptoLab, as the game beat out presumably much bigger budgeted titles for the Nintendo DS and PSP, including the very big studio title God of War: Ghost of Sparta. It's definitely a nice indicator for the mobile gaming business that iOS and its associated developers have made a huge splash in the industry lately.

Creeper, the first computer virus, is 40 years young today

Forty years ago today is considered by many to be the birthday of the first computer virus. Of course, in the early 1970s they weren't called computer viruses, but that doesn't make Bob Thomas's handiwork any less special. Creeper (named after a character in the old Scooby Doo cartoons) spread from BBN Technologies' DEC PDP-10 through Arpanet, displaying the message: "I'm the creeper, catch me if you can!" and messing with people's printers. Atrix, Xoom hinted for Sprint as offset to Verizon iPhone

Motorola's Atrix and Xoom might reach Sprint as their second US carrier and may not have long to wait, a rumor maintained Thursday. Sprint would reportedly get WiMAX versions of both Android devices in an April introduction, including the Lapdock add-on. The Android and Me source has been accurate in the past and suggested the names might change, both to differentiate the Atrix and for the Xoom to avoid more trademark issues.

Switzerland leads in Mac market share around the world

The official Pingdom blog did a little research into Mac market share around the world according to Statcounter (all based on browser visits to a pretty solid sample of three million websites), and it turns out that Switzerland is the most Mac country in the world. OS X has a 17.61% market share there, making it the country with the highest share on the planet.
