AT&T will cap DSL and U-Verse internet, impose overage fees

Ladies and gentlemen, the days of unlimited broadband may be numbered in the United States -- AT&T will reportedly implement a 150GB monthly cap on DSL customers and a 250GB cap on subscribers to U-Verse high speed internet starting on May 2nd. AT&T will charge overage fees of $10 for every additional 50GB of data, with two grace periods to start out -- in other words, the third time you go over the cap, that's when you'll get charged. DSLReports says it has confirmation from AT&T spokesman Seth Bloom that these rates are legitimate, and that letters will go out to customers starting March 18th. How does AT&T defend the move? The company explains it will only impact two percent of consumers who use "a disproportionate amount of bandwidth," and poses the caps as an alternative to throttling transfer speeds. Developing

Google adds EV charging stations to Google Maps, but you still have to drive to them yourself

If electric cars are ever going to replace their gas-guzzling ancestors, we'll inevitably need a few more places to plug in and charge up. Cue Google, who's just added a database of EV -- that's electric vehicle for you non-green folk -- charging stations to Google Maps, enabling drivers to locate places to get their juice on while on longer trips or when out of town (though without the social flare of PlugShare). We've gotta say, a future of self-driving cars that can automatically charge themselves doesn't sound too bad to us -- and spending less on gas only makes the deal even sweeter.

The right and wrong ways to run apps without dock icons

I recently downloaded an app that I wanted to run without a dock icon. There wasn't a preference to run that way, but I remembered that there was a way to edit a file within each app's "bundle" (.app "files" are actually folders or packages). Sure enough, a little time on Google brought me to information about adding or changing the "LSUIElement" key in the app's Info.plist file. It also led me to Dockess which was an app which would automatically set that key for you, simply by dragging the app to Dockless' window. That seemed much safer than editing the file myself, so I downloaded Dockless, dragged the app to it, and restarted the app. It crashed immediately. And every time afterwards.
