Really, eMachines? You're honestly going to give your newest cheap-o PC this kind of tagline? Truth be told, we're not exactly sure what a standard sized dictionary even looks like (there's this thing called the internet), but apparently, it's exactly the same size as the EL1200 desktop. Video of alleged new MacBook design appears
Apple's upcoming MacBook refresh may have been captured in detail, according to a video recorded by the same Taiwanese outlet that also produced photos of the alleged top shell for the computer. Android phones gain iTunes remote app
Not to be outdone, a Google Android developer has built software that emulates the function of the Remote app on an iPhone.
Designed by Jeff Sharkey, the application can be recognised by your PC or Mac’s iTunes. Once it is paired you will be able to browse your library, view album art and play music.
It uses the Digital Audio Control Protocol (DACP), which was recently introduced by Apple and is built into all recent iTunes versions. DACP is the actual protocol used by the Remote app on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Die Möglichkeit, per E-Mail Anhänge zu versenden, ist zweifellos sehr praktisch, dennoch bringen Anhänge im Alltag mit Apples Mail auch Nachteile mit sich. Mail versucht nämlich, jeden Anhang in einem QuickTime-kompatiblen Format direkt im Fenster der Nachricht darzustellen. Besonders bei PostScript-Dateien oder großen PDF-Dateien kann dies einige Zeit in Anspruch nehmen. Außerdem möchte man vielleicht nicht unbedingt jedes PDF schon in der Nachricht angezeigt bekommen, sondern lieber den Text der Nachricht lesen und das PDF einfach nur als Symbol angezeigt bekommen.

Micron baut Produktionskapazitäten ab
Micron Technology hat angekündigt, seine Produktionskapazitäten im Bereich NAND-Flash abzubauen. Davon ist vor allem der Produktionsstandort in Boise, Idaho betroffen, der zukünftig keine NAND-Flash-Chips mehr für IM Flash Technologies, ein Joint Venture mit Intel, herstellen wird. Aufgepasst bei iPhone-Schnäppchen
Verschiedene Online-Händler bieten derzeit aus Italien oder Griechenland importierte iPhones ohne SIM-Lock an. Prinzipiell steht dem Kauf solcher Geräte nichts im Weg, die iPhones lassen sich mit jeder beliebigen SIM-Karte betreiben und auch updaten. Die starke Nachfrage nach importierten iPhones ruft allerdings auch den einen oder anderen weniger seriösen Zeitgenossen auf dem Plan.Ganz aktuell ist zum Beispiel seit gestern die Webseite 3gonlineshop.de nicht mehr erreichbar, zuvor wurden dort (hier die Überreste im Google Cache) "Freie iPhones aus der EU" ab 550 Euro angeboten. Nach einer Möglichkeit, den Verkäufer zu kontaktieren suchten Interessenten jedoch vergeblich, E-Mails wurden nicht beantwortet.

Mac Come-Back: Time Has Come
We already mentioned several times that we were unhappy from the lack of hardware updates, as recently Apple mostly communicate around iPhone and iPods.
The next Keynote will most likely mark the Mac come-back and should initiate a period of new hardware announcement, as new iMac and Mac Pro should follow. According to our information, all Apple notebook models will be upgraded, at different levels, but enough to justify the revision and reposition Apple offer in front of PC models. According to our sources, NVidia should be part of the event, as they accepted to keep secret some information on forthcoming products.
After notebook models, iMac and Mac Pro should be upgraded. The latest should be the first hardware model to sport the Nehalem, and the performance gap with current Mac Pro models might be significant.

Intel Does Not Like the New AMD's Corporate Structure
While AMD recently announced its new corporate structure, separating CPU design from CPU manufacturing, Intel announced it will watch carefully this reorganization. Officially, Intel wants to know how AMD will behave with Santa Clara's patents for which AMD had acquired licenses. In theory, one could not transfer such licenses to third parties. For sure, such legal point might give some work for lawyers from both companies. Apple hat in der Nacht auf heute das Security Update 2008-007 für Mac OS X veröffentlicht. Boingboing has it wrong...regular MacBooks will have plastic shells, not aluminum
Boingboing (and others) did some analysis on the aluminum laptop in the Apple event invitation and concluded it was a regular MacBook. It wasn't.
MacBooks will have black (perhaps other colors - we have only heard black) plastic outer shells. The same type of plastic that is on the backside of an iMac.
The inside shell, around the keyboard and the screen will be aluminum and that one piece structure will be the skeleton of the laptop.

Nokia's N85 films rooftop unboxing of another N85

We tell ya, these unboxers are really stepping up their game of late. Easily topping that trunk lid episode we saw back in July, this Nokia N85 unboxing sees one N85 film another N85's initial escape from cardboard purgatory from the roof of a building in New York City. There's no real surprises here -- just an N85 twirled around on a video that's almost entirely out of focus -- and the absence of monologue is downright creepy. ExpanDrive bekommt FTP-Unterstützung
