Drives not mounting when connected to FireWire

In some instances, users may experience problems mounting drives via FireWire, but success using other connection methods. For instance, one Apple Discussions poster's external drive seemed to be functioning fine when connected via USB, but would not work when the attempt was made with FireWire.
