Interesting tidbit - Audio in opens up VoiP possibilities on the Touch
Lost amid the rainbow colors and stainless steel iPod Touches is the fact that all of the new iPods have Audio-in. While this is nifty on a Nano (record notes?), it is downright intriguing for the Touch.
The first thing that obviously comes to mind is the Voice over IP possibilities. Truphone(iTunes link), the Voice over IP application that was originally made for iPhone *should* work for iPod Touch 2G. Cool.
But this leaves a lot more interesting gaming possibilities as well. Specifically, will MMORPG games and such that use au

Today's Keynote
During today's Keynote, Steve Jobs has announced a bunch of new products. Here's a short sum-up relating the event:
-New iTunes 8 now offers a browsing by cover albums and new genius playlists: makes automatic playlists from songs in your library that go great together. NBC is back on itunes
-The new iPod classic goes 120GB and can hold 30,000 songs while the 160GB version is discontinued.
Price is $249.
-The iPod Nano gets a new skinny look, oval shape with a larger screen. It gets new features such as voice recording and shake it to start shuffle. It's the thinnest iPod ever and a good point is that it's environementally friendly with his arsencic free glass, and the fact that it's mercury and PVC free. New headphones have in-band controls for volume and playback control from a button. It's available in a nice range of colors: silver, black, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, violet, but no white.
Prices are $149 for the 8GB and $199 for the 16GB.

App Store passes 100M downloads in first two months
iPhone and iPod touch users have already downloaded over 100 million apps from the iTunes App Store, which has reached the milestone in its first two months of existence, according to Apple. Apple, NBC making concessions in return to iTunes
Both NBC and Apple have made concessions in the former's return to the US iTunes Store, observers note. The first of these may be variable pricing, such as a higher cost for HD versions of TV shows. Leaked PR shows Bold for AT&T in October

Dell Mini 9's secret 3G not all it's cracked up to be

SanDisk: Overloaded with NAND Chips Stocks
Source : DigitimesIt is a difficult period for NAND flash manufacturers. Following biased predictions/expectations, they have production capacity way to large compared to the current demand for such products, As a consequence, prices keeps going down while stocks are getting larger every day.
SanDisk is currently trying to sell not the NAND chips, but wafers on which the chips are engraved but not cut and packaged yet. Indeed, the post-production is the expensive part, and SanDisk is trying to sell part of its production to avoid having to stock up finished product while waiting for the price to increase again.
Unfortunately, companies interested in such NAND flash chips have either there own stocks already, or are in position to define the price for such chips, bringing the value of NAND chips further down. this could also explain why SanDisk might be acquired by Samsung.

Microsoft investiert kräftig in Deutschland
Auf der heute in München gestarteten Partnerkonferenz hat Microsofts Deutschland-Chef Achim Berg das "EnerGY"-Programm vorgestellt. Mit ihm soll die Marktposition von Microsoft sowie der Standort Deutschland ausgebaut werden. Insgesamt ist dafür ein dreistelliger Millionenbetrag zusätzlich zu den üblichen Investitionen vorgesehen. Im seit 1. NVidia Offers 200 USD per Defective GPU
According to information available on the web, NVidia is offering 200 USD per defective notebook GPU to computer companies. It should cover cost linked to shipping GPU-defective notebook back to repair center, replacement of the motherboard, then potentially repairing the latest.
Based on the 200 millions USD budget allocated by NVidia for covering the costs associated to this issue, it means that the company expect that 1 million GPU will turn dead within the warranty period, while hundreds of millions of potentially defective GPU have been shipped

CrushFTP 4.9 expands protocols, safeguards
The creator of CrushFTP has released v4.9 of the program, introducing a number of minor and major changes. The software operates as a file server, and supports a number of FTP, HTTP and WebDAV protocols. Google speichert IP-Adressen nun 9 Monate

Dell has a ways to go before it can match, say, Microsoft's peripheral acumen -- or the considerable buzz being generated by Blue Track at the moment. That said, the computer giant looks to have a couple new ones in the pipeline, and that's always a treat for the folks too poor or lazy to replace their pre-bundled keyboard and mouse. The keyboard's short-throw keys will be a love it or hate it affair, but the media keys seem nice enough, while the mouse offers sensitivity-denoting LEDs and some laser tech underneath to match those smooth, predictable contours. Test of SSDs
SSD were initially presented as the right solution to decrease power consumption associated with storage unit in notebooks. However, with times and after testing first SSD samples to be released, things have changed, or evolved. Couple of weeks ago, Toms hardware ignited fire by publishing a test aiming to compare power consumption of SSD vs. 2.5HD, with rather surprising conclusions: SSD might drain more power in some cases (test procedure was questionable), but definitely pointing a question mark on the real power saving factor associated with SSDs.

MacBook Air läuft immer noch heiß
Nach nicht ganz ernst zu nehmenden Beschwerden über zu scharfe Kanten am MacBook Air haben die Benutzer auch tatsächliche Hitze-Probleme moniert. Das dünne Sub-Notebook wurde unter Last zu warm und einer der CPU-Kerne schaltete sich ab. Dadurch musste der andere Kern die gesamte Arbeit verrichten, was zu Überhitzung führte. Eine Aktualisierung der Software für das MacBook Air versprach Linderung und kühlere Schreibtische. - Let's start wit the iPod nano 4G: available as 8 or 16 GB model, different colors: silver, blue, pink, violet, orange, black, yellow, green and red (RED).
- The shape of the iPod Touch will evolve, however storage space will remain unchanged: 8, 16 or 32 GB.
- An iPod Classic featuring a 120 GB storage space will be unveiled
- A pink iPod Shuffle (to replace the current violet model) will be added to the offer, storage capacity will not change (1 or 2 GB)
Apple should significantly reduce the price of its iPods, all models included. This are of course "rumors" so far they have not been confirmed officially.

Nachfrage nach Smartphones lässt weiter nach
Gartner hat im zweiten Quartal 2008 eine schwächere Nachfrage nach Smartphones registriert. Gegenüber den ersten drei Monaten 2008 schrumpfte das Wachstum von 29,3 Prozent auf 15,7 Prozent, jeweils im Vergleich zum selben Quartal des Vorjahres. Intel has problems with its video architecture?
Intel has already delayed its Centrino 2 architecture equipped with integrated video, it is now learned that they will also delay certain Nehalem processors. These products are Havendale (for office machines) and Auburndale (for portables), these are Nehalem processors equipped with two cores and also integrated video, a first for Intel. The goal was by putting the video in the same chip that the performance would improve while simplifying largely the structure of the mother boards, and this would have lowered the cost of the entry level machines.
Envisaged for the third quarters 2009, the Havendale will, in the final analysis, be available only at the beginning of 2010.
One can also wonder whether Intel made the choice to delay certain products in order to release the resources for others. Indeed, never has the founder been so aggressive and releasing so many products at the same time. "Say Where" new speech recognition mapping app for iPhone
RWWeb points us to a new iPhone application called "Say Where!" That takes most of the typing out of finding driving directions. The application works by using voice recognition to decipher the point in which you want to travel. The Alcatel-Lucent-backed Tikitag sure has managed to keep a low profile until now, but it looks to have made quite a splash at the DemoFall conference this week, where it showed off its RFID tagging system that's apparently set to go into public beta in less than a month. The system, which Tikitag confidently boasts will "build the internet of things," promises to let you add an RFID tag to anything you like and associate it with a webpage or application -- for instance, a business card that links to page with all your social networking information or, less usefully, a cube that you can use to control iTunes.
