Woman arrested for Marvell, NVIDIA insider trading leaks

A slew of insider trading arrests have expanded today to include leaks to Marvell and NVIDIA. Fremont, California-based Winifred Jiau was accused of conspiracy and security fraud for allegedly leaking out details from the ARM and graphics chip makers between September 2006 and December 2008. Jiau was a consultant for Primary Global Research, a networking firm that linked investment groups with technology advisors.

iPad production already ramping down in prep for new model

Apple is currently slowing down iPad production in preparation for a second-generation tablet, says Concord Equity's Ming-Chi Kuo. The analyst claims that production has dropped to 1.6 million this month from 2.1 million units in November. Kuo suggests that a second-generation iPad will be announced in January, but this may be unlikely, as Apple typically limits the month's hardware revelations to minor updates unless a device is first-generation. Despite strong start, iPad magazines not faring well over time

There's good news and bad news on the iPad publication front. First of all, lots of iPad magazines seem to be having respectable launches -- Wired's first iPad edition did a full 100,000 downloads earlier this year, and other magazines have seen similarly large numbers at launch, as customers download the app or content just to see what it's like. Multi-state bank BBVA Compass has launched an app for the iPad, BBVA Compass Mobile Banking (PD). The title features graphic displays of financial data, as well as maps of branch locations. Apple heads donate over $3 million in stock

Two executives and two board members at Apple donated over $3 million in stock this month, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings. All of the donations took place between the 10th and the 17th; the biggest one is noted to have been made by board member Millard Drexler, also currently the CEO of J. Crew. He donated 6,800 shares on December 14th at a closing price of $320.29 per, making the offering worth about $2.178 million.

Nokia estimatied to have moved four million N8s in fall

A rare prediction of Nokia's smarphone sales came today from Finland-based equity research group Inderes Oy. Intel on Wednesday rolled out a new solid-state drive that could make for widespread dual-drive notebooks. The SSD 310 is as fast as some of the chip designer's full-size X25 drives but an eighth the size. Huawei's HIC tablet for Vodafone has all the beauty of an industrial-grade nav unit

Considering the cheap plastics and giant white logos, our first thought when we saw this unflattering shot in the FCC's filing system was that we were looking at some sort of connected navigation unit for delivery trucks -- but alas, as far as we can tell, the so-called HIC is a "tablet" from Huawei that doubles as a phone for Vodafone. A former worker at Apple's SoHo retail store in New York City has filed suit against the company, claiming discrimination on the basis of mental illness. iPad magazine sales numbers show steep decline over a few short months

Uh oh. Since its debut, the iPad has been variously hailed as the final nail in the coffin of all physical media and the savior of the magazine and newspaper industries. A few magazines, such as Wired, had truly impressive digital launches, with over 100,000 downloads of its first issue in June. Someone at Apple needs to have a sit down with the product and marketing department at Sears and explain to them that "iWork" is a five-year old office applications suite, not a series of tools and toolkits for do-it-yourself homeowners. Incredibly, Sears is selling several tool sets and toolkits with the "IWORK" branding. While the product listings may try to deviate slightly from the Apple naming convention by using an initial capital "I", the branding on the individual tools is clearly written as "iWork", an exact copy of Apple's office suite. iTunes rentals just tenth of Netflix numbers, says analyst

Video rentals from iTunes represent just a tenth or so of those recorded by Netflix, suggests Gleacher & Co. analyst Brian Marshall. Skype honored its promises today and gave a post-mortem on the reasons behind its worldwide outage. The company blamed the failure on a bug in a slightly outdated Windows version of Skype. The iPad has so far failed to ignite digital magazine sales, data from the Audit Bureau of Circulations suggests. Although Wired managed to achieve 24,000 downloads in the iPad app's first day, and over 100,000 downloads in June, digital sales of the publication have since dropped substantially. iPad-Displays – Apple “überbucht” Produktionskapazitäten

Wie heute via digitimes.com bekannt wurde, hat Apple offenbar extrem große Bestellungen an iPad-Displays in Auftrag gegeben. Alles in allem sollen die aktuellen Bestellungen 65 Millionen Stück umfassen. Davon sollen 35 Millionen LCD-Panles bei LG und weitere 30 Millionen bei Samsung gefertigt werden. Experten und Marktbeobachter reden bereits von einer absichtlichen “Überbuchung” in diesem Bereich.

Suppliers: Apple may ship 65 million iPads in 2011

Apple could ship as many as 65 million iPads in 2011 based on the LCD orders it's placing, according to estimates from Tuesday night. LG Display is still said to be shipping the bulk of the tablet's displays, at 35 million, but frequent contributor Samsung and relative newcomer Chimei Innolux are each though to be pitching in 15 million of their own. Observers in the business told Digitimes this might be a positive sign for Apple's next iPad but also that it could represent an overcommitment.

Interval re-files lawsuit against Apple, Facebook, Google

Interval Licensing took a second shot at its dismissed lawsuit with an updated filing. The Paul Allen-owned company's new complaint still accuses Apple, Facebook, Google, Netflix and others of infringing on e-commerce patents but now includes specific, claimed examples of how the companies allegedly copied Interval's technology. In Apple's case, Interval cited the iTunes Store's album purchasing view (pictured) as a primary example.

McAfee predicts Apple under threat in 2011 (again)

It happens around this time every year -- some company that makes its money from security computers claims that next year will finally be the year the Mac goes under attack from virus programmers. Radio Shack revives iPhone 4 sale with no end date

Radio Shack this evening said that its recent and rare iPhone sale was restarting again on Wednesday. The carrier will sell both the 16GB iPhone 4 and the 8GB iPhone 3GS for $50 off when mated either to a new contract or a qualifying renewal. Trade-in values also stack on top of the discount and will give back either $75 for an iPhone 3G or $125 for an iPhone 3GS, resulting in as little as an $24 outlay for those trading up from last year's model.

$60k a week iPad-controlled charter yacht

App Store updates, iTunes Connect back from holidays

The App Store is again updating with new apps and price changes, and iTunes Connect is now available again to iOS developers -- having closed for the Christmas holiday. Apple notified developers last month that the store would not update and that sales figures and other app information would be unavailable starting December 23rd through the 28th. eBay on Tuesday released its annual Top Shopped report that reveals which products were the most popular on its Marketplace web pages in 2010.
