Nokia PureView 808 arrives fashionably late in India, 41MP in tow
After initially announcing it would come in May, and then dropping a countdown red herring, the PureView is finally opening its big 808-eye in India today. The 41MP camera (and phone!) lands with a 33,899 Rupee ($600) MSRP, depending on your barter skills. Panorama™ for iOS is a clean and simple way to create super-wide angle photos
There are a lot of apps for creating panoramas with your favorite camera equipped iOS device, and most do the job well. There are paid apps, and others like the free Photosynth from Microsoft which stitch lots of photos together vertically, horizontally, or in a complete 360 degree views.
If you do a lot of landscapes, take a look at the US $0.99 Panorama[TM]. It's dead easy and guides you with onscreen prompts about how to move your camera. When you are done, you can apply built-in filters, like Rice Paper, Vintage, Old Photo, Sketch and more. With another click, your photo is on the way to friends or family via Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, and of course, email.

Amazon updates Kindle app for Android with improved tablet support
It's not exactly the biggest of updates, but Android tablet users who do a lot of reading in the Kindle app will likely be pleased with what the latest version has to offer. The big addition is the ability to view two pages side-by-side in landscape mode (as seen above). Otherwise, you'll now find additional options for margin and spacing controls, along with a number of bug fixes (including one for a pesky problem that required you to re-register when returning to the app).

Call of Duty „Black Ops 2“ soll extrem schockierend werden

Daily iPhone App: Zombie Ace flies out from under freemium clouds
Hothead Games is sort of building a new life for itself in the iOS space. The company has always been a downloadable game company, aiming for digital distribution for its titles rather than through the traditional retail stores. But up until last year, most of Hothead's work was for traditional consoles and PCs. After Hothead released Kard Combat and saw a lot of success with that freemium title, we saw the company change quite a bit. Linus Torvalds shares Millennium Technology Prize with pioneering stem cell scientist
It's not often we see Linux creator Linus Torvalds in a tux (as opposed to with a Tux), but he had a good reason to ditch the casual look this week. He was just named as the co-recipient of the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize (often referred to as the "tech Nobel"), an award that he shares with pioneering stem cell scientist Dr. Shinya Yamanaka -- the two will also each get an equal cut of €1.2 million prize fund. Sheriff's department streamlines traffic citation process with iOS devices
The next time you're caught speeding in St. John the Baptist Parish in Louisiana, don't be surprised if the sheriff uses an iPad or iPhone to write your ticket. The Sheriff's Office in this parish about 30 miles west of New Orleans is using a ticketing solution developed by Zerion Software on their iFormBuilder platform for iOS.
The idea behind the system is to allow law enforcement officers to enter data directly onto an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch while they're talking with drivers. They won't have to return to their vehicles to enter the information into a dashboard-mounted computer, thus saving time.

Aviary releases free apps for iPhone, Android
Aviary has launched its first self-made photo editing apps for iOS and Android. The company is best known for producing a mobile SDK which supports editing in third-party titles. My Xbox Live update for iPhone brings direct remote control, Android users join the party too
As much as we liked the My Xbox Live app on iOS, it left out any practical control of a real, live Xbox 360 -- and left Android users in the cold. ICANN shows the full generic TLD application list, Google's bidding splurge
ICANN told us that June 13th was the golden day that we'd get to see all of the initial applications for generic top-level domains (gTLDs), and the full list has surfaced on cue. Pad & Quill's Littlest Black Book turns an April Fool's joke into reality
Back on April Fools' Day, Pad & Quill CEO Brian Holmes let me in on a little joke that he was putting together. The joke was a small version of their Little Black Book iPhone case that was created for the iPod nano. To make the joke look realistic, Holmes and his team actually made a small prototype. Waze, other parties identified as iOS Maps contributors
Waze and several other parties have been identified as contributors to iOS 6's Maps data, TechCrunch notes. Although TomTom is the app's biggest contributor, outfits such as Getchee, Localeze, Urban Mapping, DMTI, and MapData Sciences are also participating. Perhaps one of the biggest names is Waze, a company which provides free crowdsourced map data to parties on iOS, Android, and other mobile platforms. The firm's iOS presence might have been rendered obsolete without Apple's decision to make it a part of the official Maps content.

Tim Cook suggests new pro Macs in 2013
The Mac Pro, Apple's tower Mac with a $2500 starting price tag, only got a minor speed bump this week; not the full overhaul and new processor architecture that customers were hoping to see. ARM vows Mali-450 graphics will liven up mid-range smartphones
ARM is still cooking its next-generation Mali-T604 mobile graphics, but it has what could be a massive lift to performance coming considerably sooner through the Mali-450 family. Andy Hertzfeld unhappy with Mac Pro update
Andy Hertzfeld, original Macintosh co-creator turned Google engineer, blasted Apple for its Mac Pro update. Hertzfeld said he was deeply disappointed "with the meagre (sic), lame update that was silently bequeathed to the Mac Pro today."
Apple didn't touch on the Mac Pro during the keynote and later listed the computer with a "New" label on its store. A quick check of specs revealed only a small processor bump and RAM upgrade, with no updates to other features like Thunderbolt or USB 3.0.

Amazon reportedly adding music rights to Cloud Player, could close gap with iCloud
Amazon's Cloud Player app just made its way to the iPhone and iPod touch, but the company's web-based music service still lacks the license deals that make Apple's iCloud a more seamless experience. Teardown: Retina MacBook Pro is 'least repairable laptop"
Repair outfit iFixit has conducted teardowns of two of Apple's new MacBook models -- including, notably, the Retina version of the MacBook Pro, which it complains is the "least repairable laptop" it has ever taken apart. The system uses special pentalobe screws for instance, which like the iPhone 4, 4S, and MacBook Air, require a screwdriver most people won't have. Mountain Lion: Apples neue Sicherheits- und Privatsphäre-Einstellungen
Beim Versuch Python 3 heute unter OS X Mountain Lion zu installieren kam etwas Ungewohntes: Ich durfte nicht!
Da Python 3 nicht vom AppStore geladen wurde, konnte es nicht sicher sein, und daher war es verboten es zu installieren.
Genauer hingeschaut aber kam heraus, dass es nur an den Sicherheitseinstellungen lag. Also ab in die Systemeinstellungen von OS X und dort das Privatsphäre gedrückt. Dort erwarten den Benutzer ab Ende Juli 2012 zwei Neuerungen:

Apple-Angebote: Refurbished iPads, Macs, iPods und Back to School-Aktion
Nur Studenten kommen zur Zeit im Rahmen der Back to School-Aktion von Apple wieder in den Genuss eines Gutscheins, wenn sie ein iPad oder einen Mac kaufen. Dagegen können bei den generalüberholten (“refurbished”) Geräten alle sparen und das sogar ganz ordentlich.
Nicht neu, aber “so gut wie neu” sagt Apple: Die generalüberholten Produkte gibt es direkt bei dem Hersteller, inklusive einjähriger Garantie. Die iPads, iPods und Macs stehen nur in sehr begrenzter Stückzahl zur Verfügung. Wer sich also so ein Gerät kaufen möchte, sollte es nicht auf die lange Bank schieben.

The contentious case against the MacBook Pro with Retina display
Here's a list of all the proprietary stuff Apple has shoehorned into the "best Mac it has ever made", the MacBook Pro with Retina display (henceforth referred to as "MBPwRD"), taken from the iFixit teardown:
Irritating pentalobe screws, which don't stop anyone determined to disassemble their MBPwRD but mean you need to waste time buying special drivers on eBay.
RAM soldered to the motherboard, as we all suspected. No ability to upgrade it after purchase. I couldn't find anywhere on apple.com that makes this limitation clear to shoppers, either. That strikes me as disingenuous.

'.Apple' among proposed Internet suffixes
Top-level domains, the part of an Internet address after the "dot", are in for a big change. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers -- ICANN -- is allowing companies to use their brand name for as a suffix if they pay a hefty premium. AP is reporting that Apple is one of the companies seeking a vanity top-level domain, along with others like Sony Corp. and American Express Co.
To make a proposal for a new top-level domain, organizations or individuals had to pony up US$185,000. It's expected that some of the proposals, such as the ones for .bank, .auto, and .pizza, will generate millions of dollars in revenue to winning bidders as they license the suffix to other companies.

iFixit tears down Retina MacBook Pro, updated MacBook Air
Repair outfit iFixit has conducted teardowns of two of Apple's new MacBook models, including the Retina version of the MacBook Pro. iFixit complains that the system is the "least repairable laptop" it has ever taken apart. It uses special pentalobe screws, for instance, which like the iPhone 4, 4S, and MacBook Air, require a screwdriver most people won't have. The RAM is soldered to the logic board, as in the Air, preventing people from either upgrading or replacing memory.

iFixit tears down a MacBook Pro with Retina display
It's the teardown that we've all been waiting for since Monday's WWDC keynote. iFixit got its hands on a new retina MacBook Pro and disassembled the lovely device for all of us to see.
As expected, the teardown reveals a device that's extremely well-designed, but also difficult to repair. First, the retina display LCD is firmly attached to the display assembly. iFixit says you if you have any LCD problems, you will likely have to replace the whole display assembly which includes the iSight Camera, WiFi antennas, and Bluetooth antennas.

Renault hat mit seinem Elektroauto Zoe EV einen Rekord aufgestellt: das E-Vehikel legte in 24 Stunden 1600 Kilometer zurück. Java for OS X 2012-004 Update now available
Since Monday's announcement, we've seen quite a few software updates dealing with the new MacBook Pro with Retina display. Today there's a new Java update available.
According to the update notes, "Java for OS X 2012-004 delivers improved security, reliability, and compatibility by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_33. The update does not require a reboot after loading, but web browsers and Java applications must be shut down prior to the installation.

Waze and others contribute some map data to Apple Maps, too
Earlier this week, TomTom confirmed it is providing Apple with some map data for its new Map apps. Now, TechCrunch discovered that Waze, Getchee, Localeze, Urban Mapping, DMTI, and MapData Sciences is contributing as well. This juicy tidbit was discovered in a legal notice that lists all the companies which contribute to the Maps app.
This is good news for Waze fans, who were afraid Apple was killing the service with its own crowd-sourced map data. Now, it appears Apple is giving the service a boost (and likely some money) by tapping into the companies vast information on traffic, road conditions and more.

Mit dem neuen iOS6 kommen zwar nicht gerade endlose viele Neuerungen, aber ein paar sind dabei, und da hilft es einen schnellen Überblick zu bekommen, welche nun für welches Gerät wirklich funktionieren werden. Viele davon haben es z.B. nicht auf die vorletzte iPhone Generation geschafft, und ein paar, wie Passbook, merkwürdigerweise noch nicht mal auf das neueste iPad, das zumindest jetzt aber mit Siri redet. Ausgepingt: Apple streicht Ping beim nächsten iTunes-Release
Endlich. Nicht dass man öfter mal nachgesehen hätte, ob Ping überhaupt noch existiert, aber jetzt sieht Apple endlich ein, dass ihr soziales Netzwerk für Musik, Ping, ein Fehlstart war, und laut Quellen von Allthings D werden sie es mit der nächsten Version von iTunes endlich abschreiben. In der iOS 6 Beta scheint es ohnehin nicht zu laufen. Und bis dahin gibt es dann ja auch endlich die Facebook-Integration, genau das also, was Ping immer schon gefehlt hatte. Und die Musikservices dort laufen eh irgendwie sozialer. Damit bleibt eigentlich kaum eine Social-Network Unternehmung von Apple übrig. Definitiv nicht ihre Stärke.

Ping: Apple plant Einstellung im Herbst
Es hatte sich schon angedeutet: Apple wird aller Voraussicht nach bald die Pforten seines wenig erfolgreichen sozialen Musik-Netzwerks Ping schließen. Mit dem nächsten größeren iTunes-Update soll Ping nicht mehr Bestandteil der Software sein.

iOS 6: Featureübersicht für die verschiedenen Modelle
Netzwelt hat eine nette Übersicht veröffentlicht welche Features für welches Modell unter iOS 6 zur Verfügung steht.
Ein bisschen komisch fühlt es sich schon an – mit Siri ging es los (nur für das 4S), und jetzt geht es weiter. iOS bleibt also nicht iOS.
Die Schattenseite:
Es wird jetzt natürlich komplizierter: Mit der Wahl eines iPhone-Modells muss nicht mehr nur auf Hardware geachtet werden (welche Kamera will ich etc.), sondern auch welche Features werden mir geboten.

Microsoft patent application could match online moods with emotionally-targeted ads
It's a match made in marketing heaven: users let their guards down within the internet's virtual walls and ads are served up to complement their fickle mental states. At least, that's one possible version of your hyper-targeted digital future, if a patent application, filed by Microsoft back in December of 2010, is any indication. The USPTO documents outline a system wherein users' online activity would be monitored and associated with a corresponding tone, their reactions recorded and an overall emotional state affixed to that behavior.

The Java runtime environment has been updated for both OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and OS X Lion 10.7.4.
