Sony PlayStation Wonderbook hands-on
Last night, we caught a demo of PlayStation's new Wonderbook during the company's E3 press event. Today, we grabbed a few moments of hands-on time with the new PS Move peripheral at the Sony booth. As we learned last night, the first title for the new tech is a collaborative effort with J.K. Rowling, entitled Book of Spells. The kit makes use of an augmented reality book in tandem with the Move hardware to project images and animations (basically the game itself) right on the pages. Consisting of only six spreads

Apple TV firmware updates to 5.0.2
Apple has posted another update of the firmware for the Apple TV, v5.0.2. The release applies to the black second- and third-generation set-tops only. Any changes in the firmware are thought to be minor, since no differences have been observed so far. It in fact continues to make references to MobileMe, which will soon be rendered obsolete.

Belkin Upgrades Thunderbolt Express Dock with USB 3.0, eSATA
Belkin has added some upgrades to its soon-to-be-shipped Thunderbolt Express Dock, and a new Thunderbolt cable for Mac and PC users.
The Thunderbolt Express Dock is a first-of-its-kind docking solution for both PC and Mac users that enables instant access to up to nine desktop peripherals with one cable, and provides an easy transition from a desktop workstation to a mobile device. Upgrades to the latest version of the dock include the addition of three USB 3.0 ports, instead of USB 2.0 ports, as well as an eSata port.
Thunderbolt hasn't really caught fire yet in the market place, if you'll pardon the pun, but it holds great promise as file sizes get larger,

Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock gets USB 3.0, eSATA
Belkin has announced an update to its still-unreleased Thunderbolt Express Dock. The peripheral is mainly meant for notebooks, introducing many more connections than a portable system would normally support. The upgrade mainly brings in three USB 3.0 ports, in place of the USB 2.0 ports Belkin originally announced. The company has also added an eSATA connection, but raised the price of the dock a full $100 to $399.

Facebook brings bigger images and text to its news feed, because size does matter
Not long after hooking up its mobile site and apps with a minor facelift, Facebook's reportedly planning to bring a similar redesign to its full-sized website. According to our friends over at TechCrunch, the changes will be nearly identical to those we saw on the mobile front, meaning you'll be able see bigger photos (up to twice as large) and text pop up on your cherished news feed. The light, but plentiful revamp is expected to hit users over the next few days, so don't feel like the odd one out if you're yet to spot any tweaks.

SATA-IO unveils USM Slim external storage jack for ultrabooks, tablets and 'other portable devices'

Audi cancels A1 and A2 EVs due to pricing concerns

US Virgin Mobile iPhone coming as soon as July 1st
The Sprint-owned US branch of Virgin Mobile will soon announce prepaid iPhone sales, with a launch taking place as soon as July 1st, according to sources for the Wall Street Journal. No other details are mentioned, but the move would make Virgin Mobile just the second US carrier to sell prepaid iPhones, following an announcement by Cricket Wireless last week. That carrier will start iPhone sales on June 22nd.

Apple iPad dominates the tablet market in the US, Kindle Fire slips
A ChangeWave survey from May shows the iPad maintaining its dominance in the US tablet market. A survey of 2,893 consumers shows that 73 percent plan to buy an iPad within the next 90 days, while only 8 percent want a Kindle Fire. The only other tablet with some consumer interest is the Samsung Galaxy Tab which was on the wish list for only 6 percent of respondents.
Not only is the Kindle Fire trailing the iPad, its demand has been gradually falling since launch. The Fire started out hot in November 2011 with 22 percent of customers planning to buy the tablet and dropped precipitously to 7 percent by March 2012. Virgin Mobile may be next up for pay-as-you-go iPhone parade on July 1st
It might be that Cricket's iPhone deal is just the tip of the prepaid iceberg: insiders reportedly say that Sprint's pay-as-you-go brand Virgin Mobile will be taking the Apple plunge as well. Nintendo Wii U and games hands-on (video)
Nintendo's pre-E3 media briefing has wrapped up and the doors have opened, doors containing the latest and final revision of the Wii U hardware. Reggie & Co. failed to give us any concrete launch details beyond "holiday" this year, so we can't quite be sure of a date or a price or, really, much of anything. Rumor has 'most' Macs getting updates at WWDC
Apple is planning to update "at least four out of their five" Mac lines at WWDC, according to sources for 9to5Mac. New systems should at least include two reconfigured 15-inch MacBook Pros, although what will happen with the 13- and 17-inch MacBook Pros is unknown. It's also believed that both the 11- and 13-inch MacBook Airs will be updated, as well as the iMac line. Less sure is what the fourth Mac to be updated will be, but it's speculated that it will be the Mac mini rather than the Mac Pro, since the Pro has been neglected for about two years.

WSJ sources back up transition away from Google in iOS Maps
The Wall Street Journal is backing up reports of Apple transitioning to a Google-less iOS Maps app. The paper cites "current and former Apple employees," who say that the app will arrive later this year. One source says that Apple could preview the new app at WWDC, which begins June 11th. There the company is widely expected to show off iOS 6, with which any version of Maps would have to be deeply integrated.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata himself may have dropped word of Netflix support on the Wii U last year, but the company's now fully confirmed that and a whole lot more during its E3 keynote today. Peter Molyneux has revealed what he's been up to since he left Lionhead. At E3, he paid a visit to Spike TV, bringing with him several screens from his upcoming title, Curiosity. Leaked MacBook Pro specs suggest only minor changes
A label photo posted on the Chinese forum Weiphone suggests that the 13-inch MacBook Pro will only get minor changes in its next incarnation. Specifications indicate a 2.5GHz Ivy Bridge processor with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000, and 4GB of RAM by default. The most notable additions are in fact Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 3.0, the latter of which would be a first for an Apple product. Apple has usually preferred to emphasize Thunderbolt, a high-speed port standard it co-developed with Intel.

Apple must wait for sales injunction against Galaxy Tab 10.1
Apple pushed for an injunction that would ban the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US, but Judge Lucy Koh of the United States District for the Northern District of California denied this motion. According to a report by FOSS Patents, Koh told Apple it had to wait until the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) issues its mandate on the case. Once the CAFC responds, Apple can ask again for an injunction.
This delay will help Samsung, which faces Apple in another court session scheduled for Thursday June 7. Rather than the Galaxy Tab injunction, the session will focus on the injunction Apple filed against the Galaxy Nexus.

Daily iPhone App: Air Mail flies high in the sky
I saw several of Chillingo's upcoming titles at the Game Developers Conference in May. The most impressive one was Air Mail, an exploration-based flying game for the iPhone and the iPad. Not only are the graphics beautiful, but the controls must be experienced to be believed. They're precise and complex, providing a real sense of flying through the air.
The production values are nice and high as well, featuring a great story, with plenty of varied missions and extra game modes. You can follow a mission mode with the story, take on a scoring mode to try and fly as expertly as possible, or just casually explore the great environments in an Explore mode.

Toshiba updates Portege Z835 Ultrabook with Ivy Bridge, renames it the Z935
Toshiba's getting the most attention today for announcing two new laptops (including one with a bonkers 21:9 aspect ratio), but it's also getting some extra mileage out of its first Ultrabook, the Portege Z835. The company just announced it's refreshing the system with a Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor, and that it shall henceforth be known as the Portege Z935. Other than that, the chassis and other key specs are expected to remain the same. Look for it on shelves starting June 24th, and don't be surprised by a bump in price: it now starts at $900, up from $800 when it had Sandy Bridge.

Angeblich Specs des kommenden MacBook Pro aus dem Kaffeesatz aufgetaucht

Die chinesische Site WeiPhone ist davon überzeugt, dass die Specs fürs kommende 13-Zoll-MacBook Pro, die das obige Foto zeigt authentisch sind - was sich weder bestätigen noch eindeutig verneinen lässt. Demnach würde das MacBook Pro demnächst mit 2,5 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 Prozessor, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 13.3-LED-Backlit-Display mit 1280 x 800 Pixeln, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Thunderbolt, 2 mal USB 3.0, SDXC-Slot und FireWire 800 kommen. iOS 6 soll Siri für iPad enthalten

Auf der Computex haben unsere Kollegen ein Windows RT Tablet in die Hand bekommen und es erst mal gründlich unter die Lupe genommen. Snapdragon S4 Dual-Core Prozessor versteht sich beim ersten ARM Tablet mit Windows 8 von selbst. Und der 1.5GHz Dual-Core APQ8060A mit 2GB RAM lässt Windows 8 schon sehr flüssig laufen (Quad-Core wird ja auch noch kommen). SkyDrive Sharing mit einem Nokia Lumia zeigt WiFi und 3G in Bestform, GPS mit Bing Maps macht auch keine Zicken. Tipp: So kann man iTunes-Links auch auf dem iPad kopieren und versenden
Schon mal versucht iTunes Links auf einem iPad in die Zwischenablage zu kopieren? Vom AppStore oder iTunes Store aus kann eine App nur empfohlen werden (via E-Mai). Aber auch von dort ist der Link nicht ersichtlich und schon gar nicht “kopierbar”.
Eine Lösung wäre sich selbst diese E-Mail zu senden, und dann versuchen den Link zu kopieren.
Eine Löung für dieses Problem ist die sog. iTunes Link Maker Website von Apple.
Von dort kann nach Programmen gesucht werden.

MSI Slider S20 Windows 8 Tablet-Ultrabook Hands-On

Es ist eine Weile her, dass wir MSI als einem der großen Netbook-Hersteller alle 5 Minuten begegnet sind. Tablets sind für sie eher ein neues Feld und so überraschen sie einen mit dem Slider S20 Windows 8 Tablet-Ultrabook-Mashup mit 11-Zoll Bildschirm, bleiben aber bei dem typischen Plastikgehäuse. Zwei USB 3.0 Ports, HDMI, Ethernet und ein Klapp-Konzept, dass sich klar an den ASUS Eee Pad Slider anlehnt. Das Keyboard ist etwas nah am Bildschirm, was die Bedienung nicht gerade allzu einfach macht. Es soll Ivy Bridge Prozessoren haben, genauere Spezifikationen sind aber auch hier noch nicht bekannt.

Lenovo ThinkPad Windows 8 Tablet Hands-On (Video)

Nach Acer, Asus und Samsung gibt es jetzt auf der Computex auch ein Windows 8 Tablet von Lenovo zu sehen. Das ThinkPad wir zwar noch lange nicht auf den Markt kommen, ihm fehlt sogar noch der Name um es von seinem Android-Bruder zu unterscheiden. Aber es fühlt sich leicht und dünn an mit seinen 9,7 Millimetern, hat einen intel Clover Trail Prozessor und soll 10 Stunden mit der Batterie laufen. Der 10,1-Zoll Bildschirm mit 1366x768 Auflösung ist ziemlich Standard und die 2-Megapixel Frontkamera wird von einer 8-Megapixel Rückkamera flankiert.

Toshiba outs Satellite U840W Ultrabook with 14.4-inch, 21:9 display
It's a shame we have to write headlines -- we would have invited you to guess what screen size you're looking at on that Ultrabook up there. Alas, though, you can read, and that funky-looking laptop is indeed the Toshiba Satellite U840W (yes, that's "W" for widescreen, and also note that American models from Toshiba tend to tack a 5 on the end, so this could well be the U845W when it reaches the States). Its display measures an unusual 14.4 inches diagonally, which translates to a severe 21:9 aspect ratio (and 1792 x 768 resolution, in this case). Hackers the iPhone Dev-Team has updated the tools Ultrasn0w and RedSn0w, apps that allow users to jailbreak and in some cases unlock the iPhone 4 and 3G or 3GS. WWDC 2012: Neue Mac Pros und weitere Produkte
Wie jedes Jahr wird vor der Developer-Konferenz viel spekuliert. Bilder und Gerüchte tauchen auf, und meist lässt sich schon ein recht viel vorhersagen (ob es Marketing ist oder nur undichte Quellen sei dahingestellt).
Zu 99% ist es sicher, dass iOS 6 vorgestellt wird. Entwickler-Konferenz heißt natürlich dass Hersteller und Entwickler erste Workshops für das neue mobile Betriebssystem von Apple erhalten sollen.
Auch wird Mountain Lion der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht. Der Release Termin ist zwar nicht gewiss, dennoch dürfte es zeitgleich mit der Auslieferung der ersten Hardware sein, also wenige Wochen nach der Konferenz.

Der Apple-Zulieferer Corning, der das “Gorilla Glas” des iPhone und iPad produziert, hat mit dem “Willow Glas” ein neues Produkt vorgestellt. Das Material ist sehr dünn und biegsam, laut Corning sollen so “Revolutionen” in Sachen Form und Produktdesign möglich sein.
Corning hat das neue Willow Glas auf der Messe Display Week in Boston präsentiert. Da das Glas sehr dünn, und flexibel, gleichzeitig aber auch flexibel sein soll, ließe sich ein Display beispielsweise um ein Gerät “herumwickeln”. Buffalo's new glacial lump of a HDD looks set to offer data speeds that are anything but. The HD-PATU3 is Buffalo's first HDD to share its storage goodness across USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt -- and it's compatible with both PCs and Macs. Intel bets big on touch-enabled Ultrabooks, invests in factories across the globe
Intel is presenting at the e21 Forum at Computex in Taipei, and SVP Tom Kilroy just announced that the company is planning to focus on touch-enabled Ultrabooks, investing in factories that produce panels that are 13 inches and larger. Visualized: Intel drops the curtain on 50 Ultrabooks at Computex keynote
Intel had a few nuggets for us at its Computex presentation today, but this being a keynote, there always needs to be a bit of pageantry. After a bit of on-stage gaming and a quick 30-second karaoke session, a stage-wide curtain dropped to the sound of a buzzer, revealing 50 nondescript Ultrabooks, each displaying the words "Thank you!" in both English and Chinese. Apple temporarily stymied in Galaxy 10.1 injunction
Apple's ongoing patent dispute suit with Samsung was again heard in US District Judge Lucy Koh's courtroom on Monday. Judge Koh has rejected the bid to ban some Samsung products, including the Galaxy 10.1 tablet, on procedural grounds. Dhr declared that the appeals court that returned the judgement to her last month must formally surrender jurisdiction back to her court before she could rule on the matter. No timetable has been given for the jurisdictional shift.

Intel: 20-plus Windows 8 tablets with Intel CPUs are in the works
Funny thing about this year's Computex. There are very, very few ARM-based tablets to be found. The Kindle 4.1 update has arrived for the $79 advertising-supported basic Kindle reader. The upgrade brings a higher contrast display mode, with a "crisper" reading font. Extended parental controls regulate access control on the experimental web browser, archived items, and the Kindle store. Format support has been increased to include Amazon Kindle Format 8. Without fanfare, Apple has recently published an extensive guide to both the mechanics and the philosophy taken with regards to security in iOS, discussing the architecture, encryption, network security and interaction with other devices among other topics. If you were wondering what Sony planned next for the PS Move, the answer is apparently books. Just displayed at its pre-E3 press conference, Wonderbooks will let users turn physical books into the best pop-up adventure of all time. Parallels adds 'experimental' Windows 8 preview support
Parallels has updated its self-named OS virtualizer software, Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac, to be able to automatically download and install the recently-released Windows 8 Release Preview. As with its earlier update in March for the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, support is "experimental" and thus not fully supported as the final release of Windows 8 may make significant changes. Instapaper update introduces automatic background updating
The latest Instapaper update contains a pretty nifty new feature: the ability to update automatically in the background; the app uses geofencing to turn updates on and off.

Nikkei: Nintendo Wii U to sell for around 30,000 yen, or just under $400
There's still no official word from Nintendo, but Japan's Nikkei news agency is reporting today that Nintendo's Wii U console is will sell for "around" 30,000 yen when it makes its debut later this year. That translates to roughly $380 US dollars, although chances are the official US price will be something other than a direct yen-to-dollar conversion. What's more, Nikkei is also reporting that Nintendo will show off a number of new non-gaming features for the console at E3 this week, including e-books and karaoke (complete with a 10,000 song library), and even the ability to use the Wii U as a car navigation device (just the controller, presumably). Needless to say, we'll be covering the keynote live to bring you any of those details as they become official.

Acer turns down non-tablet ARM devices, player hates the smartbook game
Acer may be going on a full touchscreen blitz at Computex, but one thing it's not doing is chasing others down the smartbook path. Talking with journos as Taipei's big gala got underway, company chairman JT Wang said that ARM was too fresh-faced to be used in anything besides a tablet, at least until 64-bit ARM architecture speeds things up in earnest. Wang wasn't too worried, though: Intel and Microsoft were recovering their "relationship" now that Windows 8 was providing a spark to reignite the love affair.

Foursquare teases a giant mobile app remake, mayors quiver in anticipation
Foursquare has been steadily adding to its mobile app since its check-in service took off. A major remake hasn't been in the cards, however, until now. The company is teasing a major update this week that will reflect Foursquare's shift from simply broadcasting your coffee shop invasions to recommending where to go next. From what little the company is willing to let slip in advance, the emphasis will be on spotting popular destinations on the map as well as more alluring location pages.
