DEVONthink 2.1 adds Workspaces, Clip to DEVONthink

DEVONtechnologies has posted two key software updates, DEVONthink 2.1 and DEVONnote 2.1. DEVONthink is an information manager and organizational tool. The update brings a new Workspaces feature, which lets users save the state of all windows, panels and tabs -- along with included content -- for recall and switching between multiple work environments. For non-practicing entities -- companies that make a living purely out of holding patents and then licensing them to and/or suing companies that actually make things -- business is good (as usual). Windows 8 tablet demo at D9 may use NVIDIA Tegra chip

Microsoft Windows lead Steven Sinofsky's Windows 8 tablet demo at the D9 show next week could show it off on a non-Intel chip, a trio of insiders said Thursday. An NVIDIA Tegra chip, presumably a dual-core Tegra 2, would power a prototype tablet demonstrating the new interface. Textco adds speed, Lion support to Gene Construction Kit 3.5

Textco BioSoftware has released an upgrade of its DNA plasmid mapping software, Gene Construction Kit 3.5. The tool lets researchers manipulate DNA sequences, either graphically or as sequence text. It identifies open reading frames, keeps track of sticky ends during cutting and pasting of restriction enzyme digestion fragments, and assists PCR primer designing. Multiple files can be open and displayed simultaneously, so DNA sequences can be copied and pasted between plasmids and vectors to represent real-world DNA cloning protocols.

Senator Al Franken asks iOS developers to provide "clear and understandable privacy policies"

Following up on requests he made to Apple and Google in his hearing on mobile privacy earlier this month, U.S. Senator Al Franken wrote a letter to the companies' respective CEOs asking them to require all software sold through the App Store and Android App Market to provide consumers with "clear and understandable privacy policies." Franken conceded that most customers never read the legal notices packaged with apps or think to look for a privacy statement for each (or any) app they install. Neusten Gerüchten zufolge soll Apple-COO Tim Cook vor Kurzem Südkorea besucht haben, um die Möglichkeiten eines AMOLED-Display von Samsung im nächsten iPad zu diskutieren. Dazu soll dieses iPad möglicherweise noch dieses Jahr erscheinen. Ob die Verhandlungen trotz des währenden Rechtsstreits zwischen Samsung und Apple erfolgreich werden scheint unklar. Andere Quellen dagegen behaupten, Apple würde auf die sogenannte Super PLS-Technologie für herkömmliche LCSs im nächsten iPad setzen. Google open to Wallet on iPhone, has special 'sticker'

Google is open to the prospects of Google Wallet running on platformsbeyond Android, the company's commerce VP Stephanie Tilenius said in a question and answer session after the live event Thursday. As a convert from Mail.app to Sparrow (US$9.99) , I naturally got a bit overexcited when I heard that version 1.2 of the Mac email app was going to be unveiled at TechCrunch Disrupt yesterday. Filed under: Tablet PC Wir haben zwar immer noch hauptsächlich Gerüchte, aber die verdichten sich immer mehr. PC Mag hat jetzt die Info aus den Taiwanesischen Liferanten bekommen, dass es sogar schon Preisvorstellungen gibt. 349 Dollar soll das 7-Zoll Tablet kosten, 449 Dollar das 10-Zoll. Google Wallet official, brings open NFC mobile payments

Google at its New York City event launched Google Wallet as the first major NFC mobile payment system in the US. The platform revolves around the concept of virtual cards, including a Google Prepaid Card, that lets users pay at a store just by bringing the phone close to a terminal. It ties in directly with Google Offers and can give offers based on the phone's location, deals pushed from the web, and NFC tags built into posters and other ads.

In den USA hat Google jetzt Google Wallet offiziell vorgestellt. Und die ersten Partner dafür sind auch klar. Subway, Macy's, Walgreens, Toys'R Us, First Data, Citibank, Sprint und MasterCard. Damit soll das Bezahlsystem über NFC endlich beginnen und das Handy irgendwann als eine Art Kreditkarte einsetzbar werden. Natürlich ist bezahlen aber auch nicht genug für NFC und so will Google Wallet auch für Airline-Tickets, Schlüssel und ähnliches ausgebaut werden. Und die Rechnungen und Kassenzettel sollen natürlich auch gleich auf dem Handy landen. Apple, along with AT&T and US Cellular, has been hit with a patent infringement lawsuit by Visual Interactive Phone Concepts (VIPC). X1-01 und C2-00: Nokia Dual-SIM Kleinchen endlich auch bei uns

Filed under: Handys Wir beschäftigen uns hier meist eher mit Smartphones, aber manchmal sind kleine Telefone (ihr wisst schon, zum Telefonieren) nicht unpraktisch, vor allem wenn man gleich zwei SIM-Karten gleichzeitig nutzen kann. Das C2-00 ist schon eine Weile in Indien, China etc. erhältlich und jetzt auch hierzulande für 45 Euro. Der Clou: SIM-Karten kann man von aussen Reinstecken. Obendrein kommt noch die Variante des X1-00, das X1-01, das nur 34 Euro kostet und im Standby 43 Tage aushält. Der Vorteil bei beiden: Dual-Standby, d.h. man empfängt Gespräche und SMS egal welche SIM-Karte man gerade selber zum Telefonieren nutzt, ohne was umschalten zu müssen.

Apple files parellel suit, dismissal in white iPhone debacle

Apple has simultaneously filed for a lawsuit and a voluntary dismissal in the case of a New York City teen who sold white iPhone 4 parts, reports say. Fei Lam successfully sold at least $130,000 in parts in a space of a few months, while Apple continued to have trouble producing its own white iPhones. The trouble is that Lam's parts allegedly came from connections at Foxconn, Apple's main manufacturing partner.

Intel CFO Stacy Smith raised eyebrows Thursday with remarks after an investor event that the company would be open to the prospect of making chips for other companies that aren't using an Intel design. The company's SSD-N256S/MC400 has a SATA 6GBps interface, supports multi-level cell NAND Flash memory and boasts read and write speeds of up to 405 MB/s and 223 MB/s, respectively. Shaw tackles criticism with huge caps, 250Mbps speeds

Canadian cable provider Shaw hit back at mounting complaints of restrictive bandwidth caps by unveiling a new set of Internet plans with much looser caps and increased speeds. Starting June 7, capped plans will start with at least 400GB of data per month at 50Mbps down, 3Mbps up at $59 per month for those with a Legacy TV package, moving up to 100Mbps down, 5Mbps up and 750GB of data for $79 per month. A second phase in August will add a 250Mbps download, 15Mbps upload plan with a 1TB cap for $99.

Some folks are talented and build interesting gadgets in their spare time. Take, for example, the man who spent two weeks building a white tablet he calls the iPad 3. He handpicked all the parts and assembled the device into a functioning tablet, complete with a stuck-on Apple logo. Sadly, he chose Windows XP for the OS which makes the logo and iPad 3 name seem a bit awkward. Bericht: Regimegegner in Weißrussland mittels Mobilfunkdaten identifiziert und verhaftet

Offenbar sind mehrere hundert Verhaftungen von Demonstranten in Weißrussland auf die Auswertung von Standortdaten von Mobiltelefonen zurückzuführen. Skype goes down globally, investigation underway

There's a pretty widespread outage of Skype going on right this minute, judging by the explosion of tweets relating to it. It's not universal, as we've been able to log in and use the internet communicator for both text and video chat, but something's definitely gone wrong. So far, we've noticed our OS X machines are ticking along just fine, but our Windows computers are not. Importantly, we had to upgrade one of our Windows desktops to "break" Skype, which indicates it could be a fault contained in the latest version, but then again, it could have simply been just a case of terrible timing. IDC: Servermarkt wächst im ersten Quartal um 12,1 Prozent

Die weltweite Servermarkt ist im fünften Quartal in Folge gewachsen. Den jüngsten Zahlen von IDC zufolge steigerte die Branche ihren Umsatz im ersten Quartal 2011 gegenüber dem Vorjahreszeitraum um 12,1 Prozent auf 11,9 Milliarden Dollar (8,4 Milliarden Euro). Die Zahl der verkauften Server erhöhte sich um 2,5 Prozent auf 1,9 Millionen Stück. Das entspricht dem zweithöchsten Wert, der je in einem ersten Quartal registriert wurde.

Comcast revealed Wednesday that it was testing a TV-over-IP system for its network. A dry run on MIT's grounds in the fall would prove it can deliver its regular TV service using Internet protocol in a way that would simplify delivering it beyond TV sets. Google gets creative, names new NFC payment system Google Wallet?

Yesterday, anonymous sources said that El Goog and Sprint would debut a new NFC payment system on May 26th -- otherwise known as tomorrow. Today, a leak allegedly from the Container Store appears to have spilled the beans on the moniker for Mountain View's mobile money method: Google Wallet. AAPL's top owners have cashed in some stock recently

Fortune's Apple 2.0 blog has an interesting tidbit about Apple's stock lately. A blogger who calls himself Sammy the Walrus IV has been poking around into AAPL records, and has found out that several of Apple's top shareholders have sold some of the stock recently. There's nothing shocking here (nothing outside of the usual buy and sell on the stock exchange), but the numbers are interesting, with firms like Janus Capital and Capital Research investing back into AAPL for over a billion dollars each. MSN launches Onit, men's lifestyle app for iPhone, iPad

Microsoft has launched MSN Onit, a men's lifestyle and article aggregator, as an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch as well as a version specifically for the iPad. The app, previously available only on Windows Phone 7, takes content from MSN along with a number of men's magazines (including Esquire and Men's Health) and popular sites like Playboy's The Smoking Jacket and delivers the aggregated content in a magazine style. Comcast will start testing an IPTV service at MIT, new Xcalibur guide coming your way sooner

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Comcast will start testing a new video delivery system that is completely internet protocol based at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology in "the coming months." Google Maps for Android 5.5 live as mobile overtakes desktop

Google marked a pair of milestones for its mobile mapping on Wednesday with both an app and the rise of mobile. Google Maps 5.5 for Android (Market) has received a newly overhauled section for mass transit stops designed to reduce the dependence on plotting a course for routes. A given stop will now show the upcoming departures with color-coded lines, all the lines regardless of the time, and nearby stations if the current one won't work.

Pioneer AppRadio official, relies on iOS apps for its power

Pioneer showed its hand following earlier leaks and unveiled the AppRadio on Wednesday.
