Editorial: Android's problem isn't fragmentation, it's contamination

Google late this week took a cue from Apple to bolster Android in the workplace. A combination of a new version of the Google Apps Device Policy app (Market) and a new My Devices page lets workers control a lost or stolen phone similar to Find My iPhone. Russian official dismisses idea of banning Gmail, Skype

An anonymous official from Russia's Kremlin on Saturday dismissed an FSB proposal to ban Gmail, Hotmail, Skype and possibly other services. The official disliked a set of attacks on a major Russian blogging site but didn't believe the proposal, from the FSB security agency's information lead Alexander Andreyechkin, was necessary. In a move that just assured kids everywhere will view Auburn, Maine's kindergartens as the coolest in the country, the local school board there has purchased iPad 2s for every kindergartner in the district. At a total cost of $200,000 including 285 iPad 2s, insurance for the devices, and educational software, the Auburn program will begin as a pilot this May, with a complete rollout expected in September. Maine school district buys iPad 2s for every kindergartner

Young students in Auburn, Maine will be using cutting edge technology right from the start of their school experience: the district has bought 285 iPad 2s to use for each kindergartner and teacher in the classrooms. You Don't Know Jack coming to iOS

Here's some good news for your Friday: The newest version of the classic trivia video game You Don't Know Jack is coming to iOS. Cookie and the gang, Question Four (the question that cares), and all the rest will be on Apple's handheld platforms sometime in the future, so you'll be able to do some Dis or Dat, screw other players, and hit up the Jack Attack all while out and about. There's no word on if the game supports multiplayer or not (sure it'd be tough to do without an honor system, but it's YDKJ!), but it will have Game Center, and apparently it will have 20 full episodes to play through as well. Verizon confirms scrapping one-year contracts on April 17

Verizon validated concerns that it was dropping one-year contracts as options with an official statement. It planned to drop the choice as of April 17, leaving just the two-year contract or a month-to-month option. You Don't Know Jack trivia game coming soon as iOS title

You Don't Know Jack, the popular "trivia quiz meets TV quiz show" game whose original style and clever questions spawned a run of popular sequels in the mid-90s has launched a full-scale comeback, starting with releases for Windows and popular videogame consoles in February and now expanding to full, "lite" and HD versions of the game for iOS devices which is "coming soon" and will feature "completely different questions," according to the company's Twitter feed.

According to a survey done by Google's AdMob, games are the number one use of most tablet computers out there, including Apple's own iPad and iPad 2. Tip: iBooks can open EPUB books directly

The latest version of iBooks (or possibly one of the previous versions -- we're not sure when this change went in) includes a helpful little update in it: iBooks now recognizes EPUB files, which means it can open those files directly from anywhere on your iPhone, from your email to a DropBox folder or whatever you've got. Windows 8's SmartScreen to build on Apple's file screening

Among the additions coming to Windows 8 should be an Apple-like file checking system taht would refuse to run files known or suspected to be rogue. Microsoft's SmartScreen, a system first found in Internet Explorer and Windows Live Messenger, will check files for whether they're malware or otherwise illegal and could stop them from running. The method would prevent 'social' viruses, where users end up bypassing their usual safeguards because they think it comes from a known source.
