The LA Times says Apple has slowly begun hiring more lobbyists in Washington, D.C. to protect its interests as it has grown from a niche player to one of the tech sector's biggest powerhouses. IBM demonstriert 155-GHz-Transistor

"Unpleasant Horse" shows Apple isn't afraid to reject big developers
Apple has taken a lot of slack about their seemingly arbitrary rejection of apps in the App Store. Often small developers who have had their apps rejected cry foul stating that Apple would never reject apps from bigger publishers. Earlier this week, However, Apple showed that even big publishers aren't immune to Apple's ban hammer.
PopCap, publisher of megahits like Plants vs. Zombies, submitted an app called Unpleasant Horse. The game's objective is to jump a Pegasus-like horse from cloud to cloud. Ja man kann Doom II auch auf dem neuen schwarz-weiss E-Reader PocketBook 360 Plus spielen, das haben sie bei PocketBook selbst rausgefunden und realisiert, wie ihr im Video nach dem Break sehen könnt. Das läuft jetzt zwar nicht extrem flüssig, ist aber für ein E-Ink Display schon ganz beachtlich, allerdings nicht so gut wie auf TIs Inspire-Taschenrechner.

Musikmesse 2011: Analogsynthesizer namens Schmidt

Hinter diesem Namen vermutet man eigentlich eher keinen Analogsynthesizer der Extraklasse, aber genau das ist der Schmidt, der auf der Musikmesse von seinem Erbauer Stefan Schmidt gezeigt wurde. Er bietet komplett analoge acht Stimmen, die mit je vier Oszillatoren und sieben Filtern ausgestattet sind, wiegt stattliche 45 Kilo und ist mit 157 Drehreglern übersäht, die Zugriff auf alle klangformenden Aspekte bieten. Über den Preis schweigt sich Herr Schmidt beharrlich aus, erst soll noch die Nachfrage geprüft werden, der dürfte aber großzügig fünfstellig sein. Video nach dem Break.

Schnellerer „Sandy Bridge“ mit Turbo bei 4,0 GHz?
Der schnellste Prozessor von Intel im Desktop-Segment auf Basis des „Sandy Bridge“ wird aktuell bereits von der Server-Version übertroffen. Auch wenn dies mit 3,5 zu 3,4 GHz nur ein kleiner Prozentsatz ist, steht bei der Xeon-Riege bereits ein schnelleres Modell auf dem Plan, welches im Turbo-Modus erstmals 4 GHz erreichen soll.

EU will Schutzrecht für Musik auf 70 Jahre anheben

Theater owners ready to fight over $30, 60-day window VOD movies
While we're not exactly in a hurry to spend $30 each on 60-day delayed movie rentals, theater owners are quite upset by the whole premium video-on-demand plan apparently being pushed by Warner, Sony, fox and Universal. The most active objector so far appears to be AMC Theaters, which announced yesterday (press release after the break) it would notify studios that it plans to "adapt its economic model" regarding movies bound for p-VOD.
