RIM's chief marketing officer resigns

We won't read too much into this, but it comes at an interesting time -- with only a month left before RIM is expected to debut the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, the company's chief marketing officer has resigned. The Wall Street Journal reported that RIM CMO Keith Pardy (formerly with Nokia) will leave due to "personal reasons" after a six-month transition period is up. Google Docs gets Android, iPhone editing in 44 languages

Google Docs mobile editing expanded significantly this week with the addition of 44 more languages. The company's update has expanded beyond English for the first time and lets smartphone or tablet owners edit in many Asian and European languages as well as languages that read right-to-left, such as Arabic or Hebrew. AT&T today offered a brief update confirming that it would still honor those with unlimited data plans for the iPad 2. The carrier is treating its tablet data much as it would other grandfathered plans and will let adopters of the new Apple tablet keep their service, an Engadget reader was told. Nvidia gewinnt Marktanteile bei diskreten Grafikkarten

Im letzten Quartal des Jahres 2010 konnte Nvidia verlorenen Boden wieder gut machen und AMD teilweise deutlich Marktanteile abnehmen. Grund dafür ist unter anderem, dass AMD im letzten Quartal weniger diskrete Grafikkarten ausliefern konnte als noch zuvor, während Nvidia mehr GPUs für sogenannte Add-in-Karten absetzte.

FaceTime erhält Update auf Version 1.0.1

Apples neue Videokonferenz-Applikation für Mac OS X — «FaceTime» — erschien vorletzte Woche nach längerer Beta-Phase in der finalen ersten Version. A report has suggested that all Best Buy sales staff may receive iPads. Microsoft kicks off effort to rid the world of Internet Explorer 6

"Friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer 6." A quote from any random web developer over the past ten years? Nope, that's from Microsoft itself, and it's featured on the Internet Explorer 6 Countdown site that the company just launched today. As you can see above, the site also includes statistics on IE6 use around the world (China is apparently the biggest offender by a wide margin), as well as information about how you can "join the cause" and educate others about the perils of using such a horrible, outdated web browser.

Microsoft posts countdown to kill off Internet Explorer 6

Microsoft took the uncharacteristic step of goading users to drop one of its products on Friday. The Windows developer's countdown page encourages users to stop using Internet Explorer 6 and tracks the progress towards ending its use.
