News: Apple: No set date for French iPhone launch
Apple has told Thompson Financial News “we have not announced any other country launch dates in Europe,” despite the iPhone being scheduled to launch in Germany and the UK on Nov. 9, This statement follows remarks made by France Telecom CEO Didier Lombard that the group has signed a contract with Apple to make Orange the distributor of the iPhone in France, and that the device’s French launch would take place “during November.”…

Internet2 prepped for 100Gbps capacity

Well it will still be vulnerable to a man, a match, and a mattress, but starting in January, the private Internet2 will begin offering 100Gbps bandwidth in 10Gbps chunks over its fiber optic network. Aptera's 300 MPG car available for pre-order

Aptera certainly managed managed to attract a fair bit of attention for itself earlier this year, when its concept car turned as many heads for its space age looks as it did for its promised 200 MPG range. Adobe stopft kritische Sicherheitslücken
Adobe hat bekannt gegeben, dass Golive 9, Illustrator CS3 und Pagemaker 7.0.1 sowie 7.0.2 kritische Sicherheitslücken aufweisen, über die sich Schadcode einschleusen lässt. In Illustrator und Golive kann dies durch manipulierte BMP-, DIB-, PNG- oder RLE-Dateien erfolgen. Das Opfer muss lediglich ein Bild in diesen Formaten öffnen. Über den Bug in Pagemaker machte Adobe keine näheren Angaben. Das Problem resultiert aus einem Buffer Overflow.

Artist's Game Boy concerts get machine-based visuals

A gentleman who goes by the name Gieskes has created an interesting conflation of seemingly opposing mediums. The DIY'er / artist in question has combined Game Boy-based music with a low-fi, mechanical system of lights and motors, which create kinetic-art visuals that are synced to the sound. The concept is to build screen-saver-like displays which are actually created with analog equipment. 10 Things We'd Expect to See in the New MacPros
With the recent announcement from the Register that Apple was hording up all of the new 45nm Intel Penryn processors, we got to thinking that the MacPros were in fact due for an update at or around Macworld. Because of the different chip architectures some new possibilities in case design are possible. Also, new technologies that are currently optional should be brought into the mainstream. Let’s go through some of the things we expect to see in the new MacPros:
1. New Enclosure. We've heard that the enclosure is getting smaller (finally!). Still Aluminum, still big. still has 4 drive slots. Easy open case more like the G4 desktops. Hopefully better handles
2. Blu-Ray option. Not Just for movie editing but also for storing 50GB of files and sending off to a client or home with a user. Although we never thought we'd say it, DVDs - even double sided ones - are too small. It is time for Apple to get on board.

iPhone WebApps Appearing on Apple's Downloads Feed?
It looks like Apple is gearing up to put the iPhone Applications built with he Web 2.0 "SDK" on their software downloads page. Thanks to a commenter, we found them in Apple's "recent downloads RSS feed". However, when you click on the link you end up at a unused page at Apple.
This isn't huge news as we've known about Web Applications since the iPhone was announced but Apple is sure drinking it's own Kool-Aid by grouping them in with legitimate OSX application downloads, right?
Anyway - look for Apple to start a web apps software "downloads" page built specifically for the iPhone - which is where we have a feeling these are going.

iPhone WebApps Appearing on Apple's Downloads Feed?
It looks like Apple is gearing up to put the iPhone Applications built with he Web 2.0 "SDK" on their software downloads page. Thanks to a commenter, we found them in Apple's "recent downloads RSS feed". However, when you click on the link you end up at a unused page at Apple.
This isn't huge news as we've known about Web Applications since the iPhone was announced but Apple is sure drinking it's own Kool-Aid by grouping them in with legitimate OSX application downloads, right?
Anyway - look for Apple to start a web apps software "downloads" page built specifically for the iPhone - which is where we have a feeling these are going.

Der endgültige Leopard
AppleInsider will erfahren haben, dass die Arbeiten an Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard quasi abgeschlossen worden sind, und Apple damit begonnen hat, Leopard-bezogenes Support-Material an die Mitarbeiter zu verteilen. Nachdem Apple zuletzt ein automatisches Software-Update für den Build 9A559 bereitgestellt hatte, ist dies nun die letzte veröffentlichte Entwicklerversionen und könnte den so genannten "Gold Master" darstellen. Der Begriff wird meistens in Zusammenhang mit der Musikindustrie verwendet und bezeichnet diejenige Master-CD mit fertiggestellten Aufnahmen, die als Quelle für Kopien genutzt wird. Alle Anzeichen deuten daraufhin, dass Leopard am 26. Oktober veröffentlicht werden wird.

Texas Hold 'em Poker an neue iPods angepasst
Nach und nach wird das ohnehin nicht gerade üppige iPod-Spieleangebot an die aktuellen Classic- und Nano-Modelle angepasst. Im September hatte Apple bereits Tetris, Sudoku und Ms.Pac-Man angepasst, jetzt ist Texas Hold 'em Poker an der neuen Reihe. Wie bei den anderen Spielen hat Apple die Versionsnummer auf 1.1.0 erhöht. Das Poker-Spiel meldet sich auch auf den älteren iPods der fünften Generation mit dieser Versionsnummer, zeigt aber ansonsten keine Veränderungen.

Apple releases iPhone, which was obviously cracked six ways from Sunday.
Through firmwares 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 Apple does not block these hacks in any way.
Firmware v1.1.1 is released for iPhone and iPod touch, which completely locks out file system access (and thus 3rd party software)

Europäische Konzerne investieren mehr in Forschung und Entwicklung
Laut einem Bericht der EU-Kommission sind die Ausgaben für Forschung und Entwicklung (F&E) der 1000 größten Unternehmen mit Sitz in der EU um 7,4 Prozent gestiegen. Es sei ein deutlicher Aufwärtstrend gegenüber 2006 zu verzeichnen, als die F&E-Investitionen um nur 5,3 Prozent zugenommen hatten. Außerhalb der EU stiegen die Investitionen dieser Firmen im Jahr 2007 jedoch um zehn Prozent.

Slot-In BD Burner for US$1000
Fastmac announced to have in its catalog a slot-in BD burner featuring a 12.5mm thickness, making it compatible with all iMacs (including PPC G5-based models) and MacBooks (except for MBPro 15"). Its price, US$1000, is not really cheap, but it will give you the ability to burn BD-R at 2x, support for BD-R double layer burning, DVD at 8x and CD at 8x.
To be noted, if you can burn BD media, you will not be able to play them as none of Apple hardware models feature the required HDCP chips; it would be about time for Cupertino to introduce such chips in all models.

Free the iPod Touch
Several readers reported having spotted the first iPod Touch in shops yesterday evening, as stocks might be limited do not hesitate to share shop locations in the dedicated topic of our forum (here). While first units were hitting shelves in Europe, http://toc2rta.com claims to have used the same tiff exploit to expose the root partition via the symlink hack. They could apply the exploit on an iPhone firmware1.0.2 and 1.1.1 and on iPod Touch 1.1.1. A similar strategy was used to hack the PSP.
If this vulnerability is currently used to allow installing third party applications on the iPod Touch, it could also be used for other more nasty purpose, and for sure Apple will soon release a fix.

Apple and Orange: Details about their Current Agreement
As announced yesterday, we obtained details concerning the agreement between Apple and Orange for distributing the iPhone in Europe. However, the current drafted contract not being signed yet, it might still evolve.
Let's first mention past issues:
- Apple was concerned by the French law forcing carriers to SIM unlocked mobile phones 6 months after their launch to prevent monopoly and let users the choice of their carrier after 6 month exclusivity. This has nothing to do with the carrier, it is the law, and Apple knew it before starting negotiation with the second largest carrier in Europe.
- Apple did not want to see the iPhone sold cheaper thanks to subscription-linked discount applied by default in most EU countries (customers can get access to high-end mobile phones at a interesting price if subscribing to a 24 months contract with the carrier. The discount applied by the carrier for making the mobile phone cheaper, is then pay back thanks to 24 months subscription fee)

Bald Einigung zwischen Apple und Orange?
