Book seller Barnes and Noble announced today that it will be offering a free Simple Touch e-book reader for free to purchasers of the Nook HD+ tablet starting next week. The Simple Touch was reduced to $79 after a winter of poor sales, and the move may be an attempt to clear the sales channel of the nearly year-old device. The deal is not yet active on the Barnes and Noble website, which currently boasts a $50 credit with the purchase of the Nook HD+ device.
