Apple Says More Than 100,000 Apps Optimized for iPhone Duo, Here's What's Still Missing
Apple today announced that more than 100,000 apps have been optimized for the iPhone Duo, released two weeks ago. We confirmed that this figure refers to apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later, meaning these apps fill the full width of the iPhone Duo's inner and outer displays and have vertical controls in the status bar.
A statement from Susan Prescott, Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations:It's been wonderful to see how quickly developers have embraced iPhone Duo, and we're grateful for their creativity and innovation. Today there are well over 100,000 apps built for iPhone Duo already live on the App Store, and thousands of optimized apps are being added to the store each day. In the last month alone, thousands of developers have joined us for workshops in 19 cities around the world to experience iPhone Duo firsthand and bring updated apps to their users. The enthusiasm has been incredible, and we're excited to see the pace of updates continue to accelerate as more and more apps o

Apple Shares New 'Apple Card: Apply and Use in Minutes' Ad
Apple today shared a new Apple Card ad highlighting how quick it is to apply, get approved, and make purchases.
In the spot, a therapist is listening to a patient drone on when a cheap flight pops up on her iPhone. Her wallet is across the room and she can't get up to grab it, so she opens up the iPhone Wallet app, applies for an Apple Card, and is able to purchase a flight within a couple of minutes.
Apple Card is built into iPhone, and you can apply in as little as a minute. No waiting for a physical credit card, no friction. All it takes is a few taps of your iPhone. You can earn unlimited daily cash back, and use it right away.
It's worth noting that the iPhone also has AutoFill for credit card information so there's often no need for access to a physical card when making web purchases, plus many sites support Apple Pay.
The Apple Card is limited to U.S. iPhone owners, and applying requires a soft credit check. Accepting the Apple Card offer results in a hard credit inquiry. Apple explains

The MacRumors Show: iOS 27.3 Looks Like a Huge Update
Apple's first 27.3 betas bring expanded Siri AI actions, a redesigned Health app, and new Fitness+ features, alongside conversation summaries on the Apple Watch. This week's episode of The MacRumors Show takes a closer look at the updates.
Subscribe to The MacRumors Show YouTube channel for more videos
Siri AI gains additional actions across Apple's apps, including unsubscribing from mailing lists, organizing files, and managing Safari tabs. In Weather, Siri can add saved locations and toggle severe weather or next-hour precipitation notifications. The additions extend the assistant's usefulness for everyday tasks, although the full range of supported requests can still be difficult to discover.
A new developer preview also enables more flexible third-party integrations. Developers can supply custom actions and skills that help Siri coordinate multiple steps, improving its handling of more complicated requests. App Store submissions for these integrations are scheduled to open in the spring.

Apple's Extended Return Policy Now in Effect for 2026 Holiday Season
Apple's extended return policy went into effect today for the 2026 holiday shopping season. The policy applies to most products sold by Apple online and in its stores, with a few exceptions, including some carrier-financed iPhones and iPads.
In the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and many other countries, most products purchased between November 6 and December 25 of this year may be returned through January 8, 2027, according to Apple's website. All purchases made after December 25 in those countries are subject to Apple's standard 14-day return policy (15 days in Canada).
In some countries, such as Mexico, Italy, Spain, and Japan, the return window is slightly longer. Apple says eligible products purchased in those countries between November 6 and January 6, 2027 may be returned through January 20, 2027.

Apple Rumored to Drop the iPhone's Action Button Next Year
Apple plans to merge the iPhone's Action button with the Camera Control starting next year, according to the leaker known as "Instant Digital."
In a new post on Weibo, the leaker claimed that a single press of the combined button would open the camera, while a long press would trigger the function assigned to the Action button. They explicitly clarified that the dedicated Action button would disappear, while the Camera Control button would remain.
The proposed arrangement seems plausible given how the two features already work. The Action button predates the Camera Control and requires a long press to activate its assigned function, while a single press of the Camera Control opens the camera. Combining them in the way described would therefore preserve both familiar interactions, with the customizable action simply moving to a different location on the device.
A long press of Camera Control currently opens Visual Intelligence, but that feature has since been integrated directly into the Camera app

OLED iPad Mini, M6 iMac, and New MacBook Pros Available From Today
From today, Apple's new iPad mini with an OLED display, M6 iMac, and its latest MacBook Pro models are available to buy from Apple's online store and in the Apple Store app, with the first pre-orders also arriving to customers today and both devices reaching Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Resellers.
OLED iPad Mini
The eighth-generation iPad mini is Apple's smallest tablet with an OLED display. The 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR display offers up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 1-nit minimum brightness, with a nano-texture glass option on 256GB and 512GB models for the first time.
The device is powered by Apple's A20 Pro chip and the N1 wireless chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. At 5.4mm thin and 255 grams, it's the lightest iPad Apple has made. It's also the first iPad with an IP67 water and dust resistance rating, aided by a new Acoustic Display that produces sound through the screen itself, so there are no speaker holes in the enclosure.

Elgato Stream Deck+ review: completely unnecessary but totally compelling
First, you can't see why you'd ever want a Stream Deck for your Mac, then you try one, and you will never give it back. Out of all the different models, though, the Stream Deck+ is best, and here's why.Get a Stream Deck+ and you'll never use a Mac without one againEvery Stream Deck is a Mac accessory that provides buttons to launch apps, perform entire sequences of tasks, or turn on your smart lights. You connect it through a USB-A or USB-C cable, and the difference in the models is chiefly in how many buttons you get and whether you also have dials.Get any of them. I've just set up a button that switches audio between my Mac and my headphones. I have one that opens all the folders for the books I'm writing. Another launches every app I need for AppleInsider, and positions them on the screen where I want. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

Apple Surveys iPhone Duo Buyers About Crease and Camera
Apple is sending email surveys to some iPhone Duo buyers to get feedback on display size, crease, under-display camera, and other features.
The first question asks why the buyer chose the iPhone Duo now, with answers like "I wanted to try Apple's first foldable," "It was an impulse purchase," and "I expect smartphone prices to increase."
Other questions ask about the size of the iPhone Duo's display when it's closed, how visible the crease is, whether the under-display camera is distracting, and the camera's image quality. The final question is open-ended and asks what the buyer would add or change about the iPhone Duo.

It's been about two weeks since the iPhone Duo launched, and it's not too unusual for Apple to conduct surveys following a new product's debut.
Some of the questions are about iPhone Duo compromises compared to standard iPhone models. The Duo's outer display is 5.4 inches, making it about the same size as the discontinued iPhone

Apple's First Touchscreen Mac is Now Arriving to Customers
It's Friday, November 6 in Australia and New Zealand, which means customers who preordered a PROLED touchscreen MacBook Pro, OLED iPad mini, M6 MacBook Pro, or M6 iMac are now starting to receive their devices.
People will soon be sharing photos and first impressions of the new products on the MacRumors forums, Reddit, Instagram, and other platforms, giving us a first look at what real-world users think of the OLED upgrade for the iPad mini and the PROLED and touchscreen update for the MacBook Pro.
Apple's new high-end MacBook Pro models come with M5 Pro or M5 Max, and the major change is the display. It's touch-enabled and is the first Mac with an OLED display. The design has been updated, so the new machines are thinner and lighter than the mini-LED models, which Apple is still selling. Apple also brought back the glowing Apple logo, and replaced the notch with a Dynamic Island. Pricing on the PROLED MacBook Pro starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch model.
